does the water stop running when you open the lid or does it continue to run?
4 answers
It was still dripping when the lid was open. Not all the time though.
Further to that question.....we had the repair man here and he replaced the pump and a few other things. Thank you.
The water does stop running as a safety feat

Hi RIS,
The wash temp on the delicate cycle is selectable for either cold, warm or hot but the rinse temp is always cold.

Hi,
A friend has just purchased this machine and she is wanting to know if the machine will do a "Wool wash" please? TIA
2 answers
You could choose to do a Delicate cycle for woolens or other items you would usually wash by hand. Ring Speed Queen direct on 1300washer or 8231 3369 if in South Australia, they are happy to answer any questions.
Craige C.Speed Queen
The AWNA62 is only recommended for washing wool garments labelled machine washable and this can be done on the "delicates cycle" other wise we recommended hand washing.

My speed queen front loader leaves lot of water and soap in the clothes after the complete cycle is done.
When i remove the clothes from the machine, the clothes have lot of water left in them, though there is no water left in the machine.

Hi Mohjils,
It does sound like you Speed Queen is operating below standard, there could be a number of reasons but it is more than likely there is a blockage in the waste water hose or pump. Regardless of the cause it can be rectified. Please call 1300washer and so we can this sorted asap.
regards Speed Queen
My Speed queen performs beautifully. Clothes as dry as could be expected. Good to see Speed Queen watching this site. Hope you get it sorted soon
Yeah - i agree with the speed queen official - the clothes when spinning are likely not getting sprayed during the spinning cycle so most likely there's a fault - i think you have little choice but to have a qualified speed queen technician to have a look at the washing machine though I'd recommend the top loader

Are there any shops i can layby or rent the fabulous speedqueen washing machine from by any chance?

Has this speed queen washing machine got a timer or is it electronic design?
3 answers
It doesn't have the traditional old timer where you can stop and start the action, or even move the wash ahead. Once you press the start button it is going, but you can lift the lid to pause the wash for as long as you like. We wanted an old style timer and this machine was the closest we could find with the least electronic gadgetry on it. Hope this is the answer you need
There is no timer. You don't see any electronic displays or soft buttons. It has 3 rotating knobs that you turn to select load size, function(rinse, spin, wash...) and fabric selector. One solid button to start. I like it because of this straightforward interface.
Ok ~ thanks

I have the Awna62 model & the fabric softener dispenser is blocked? I have cleaned it & still nothing. I've only had the machine for just over 2 years. Also the lid has corrosion & looks awful, can't believe this as machine is not old.
Can you please suggest how to unblock the fabric softener dispenser? Not very happy with machine.

I'd like to help, but I never use the softener dispenser on ANY machine I've ever owned - they are always crappy! I would soak it I guess, but I'm not familiar with it - I took it off. Do you live by the sea? Sea air can carry a lot of salt which contributes to rust. I can't think how else the lid would be corroded - I always leave the lid open when not in use, so everything can dry... I also wipe it down once a week with a dry microfibre cloth. I've had mine for well more than 12 months and it's fine...
Sorry I can't help you with the softener dispenser - contact speed queen - I'm sure they'll help you! I always mix my softener with water (when I even use it!) and then just pour it into the bowl after filling.
I always leave lid open when not in use as well and also mix water with fabric softener. I will contact speed queen, thanks for advice:)
You're supposed to not put anythng in the dispense then open the lid as the rinse water is filling to put the fabric softener in Washing tub or you also have the option of not using fabric softener at all

I have a Speed Queen AWNA62 which is 3 years old and it has developed a smelly mildew odour coming from the bowl even though I leave the lid open after each wash. Also. I have noticed that it sometimes does not spin the clothes properly. I have tried cleaning the machine with products recommended for washing machines to no avail. Any thoughts?
3 answers
Craige C.Speed Queen
Hi Cindy,
There are possibly 2 reasons for your machine developing an odour,
1 there could be a build up of undissolved fabric softener in the bottom of the dispenser or in the agitator.
The fix for this is to remove the dispenser and the agitator and give them a good clean with hot soapy water. Make sure you water down your fabric softener if it too thick and gluggy.
2 there could be something either restricting the water flow through the pump and or the outlet hose causing water to be left in the machine. This could also be the reason for the machine is not spinning all the water out on occasions.
When next using the machine check to see if it pumping out properly and the end of the wash part of the cycle. It should gush like a fire hose, if not I suspect there is a blockage in the pump. Clearing a blockage in the pump is not difficult however I would suggest that it be done by a qualified person.
Your nearest Speed Queen state office can assist if required on 1300washer.
Hello again. I have never used fabric softener, so it can't be that. Other than the pump, could it be anything else causing the mildew smell.
Thanks.
Vinegar is a good natural cleaner so you could try vigegar to get the smell away

I have a 3 year old machine and want to wash a "vet bed" used for my daughter's Guinea pigs.
This vet bed is made of a polyester backing and absorbent top layer which can shed some material. My question is,
does the machine have a filter I can change if it gets blocked up?
1 answer
No it doesn't, my wife recently washed a snooze bed (Dog) in the machine and it worked really well. I doubt it would "block up" as it is a commercial/ Industrial machine. Keep in mind it is very tough on wash cycles so if it is not a quality bed i wouldnt do it.

I have a 22 year old Kleenmaid and still going strong (fingers crossed). But want to be armed with information in case it does suddenly die on me. I would probably buy another Speed Queen but would like to know just how gentle the "gentle cycle" is . The gentle cycle on my current one is not gentle enough to wash woollens without shrinking them. I have cut back the cycle time but it certainly doesn't really help. I see the rev's for the spin on the gentle cycle on the current models is higher than the old machine I'm using. So I would really like other people's opinions as to how gentle the new models actually are?
5 answers
Thanks for the question; my wife will not wash woollens as it is far too tough even on gentle cycle. I am quite upset with myself for not investigating further yet "NO ONE" mentioned the severity of the machine. I would not contemplate the top loader period! We will more than likely purchase the front loader when we build our new home. My dry cleaner turned white when i told her what we purchased, she said it will damage my clothes (I must spend $50 per week on dry cleaning already) I hope this helps you.
Thank you BJR. With my old Kleenmaid on normal wash it hasn't been harsh on my clothes. So will be interesting if there are any others out there that have found the same as you with the newer Speed Queen.
You should really only handwash woollens in cold or tepid water unless the yarn is made/spun as a machine wash yarn - even then you want delicates, not gentle! But I would only ever handwash my woollens, regardless - drycleaning is dreadful, for so many reasons, and every dry cleaner will tell you that any type of washing will ruin your clothes - their livelihood depends on your nervousness.
As for other garments made of wool; sponging, steaming and pressing are good things to learn and have equipment for. And I handwash and repress all my husband's woollen trousers and blazers. I invested in the proper equipment, as the dry cleaners kept ruining our clothes and had no idea how to press tailored items properly.
My machine has not ruined my clothes at all, it is violent enough to get the clothes clean, though, as so many other machines aren't. You can't overload it, because then the clothes twist together and rub together too much.
I'm sorry if there's a reason you don't handwash your woollens, but to me that's the only way to preserve them, and stop them felting up.

Was wondering if you can recycle the wash and rinse water with the Speed Queen top loader as we live on a farm and have tank water? We were considering the 7kg model. Thank you
1 answer
Craige C.Speed Queen
Hi Fiona,
There is no automatic water recycling on any washing machines now as far as I am aware, however you could bucket water back into the wash bowl and the machine would top up the level automatically if necessary.

Hello,
What is the height of the top loading Speed Queen when the lid is fully open, please?
I'm not sure which model yet, but the external dimensions given all seem to be the same.
I have a wall mounted dryer and want to put the machine below it.

Hi, I've got a speed queen top loader, but I am having issues with lint remaining on my clothes after the wash, even after a delicate cycle. Have you any suggestions on how to reduce this?
2 answers
We have not had any problems at all like this, however we do tend to make sure that the water level is adequate for our washing loads, maybe this can contribute to not having the lint problem.
Occasionally when a tissue is left in the clothes the bits of washed tissue will show on the dried washing which can be annoying but I don't considered that a machine fault
Craige C.Speed Queen
Hi, Unfortunately all washing machines produce lint some more than others. However in saying this there are ways to minimalize the amount by following three basic steps.
1. Always sort your wash - lint givers such as towels etc. and lint takers such as polyesters and other synthetics.
2. Always put your detergent in the machine before loading the clothes in - this enables it to drawn into the outer tub so it can be dissolved away from your clothes.
3. Always use the correct water level, and avoid washing clothes that give off lint on water efficiency cycles as these do not have a deep rinse and do not process the lint efficiently.
I hope this helps.

I have had my Speed Queen washing front loader machine for 4 weeks. I was on my fourth load of washing and when I pressed start, it would not start? I pressed start again, still not starting. I turned it off then on, still would not start?! I unplugged my machine, turned it on then pressed start and then it started its cycle! Why is it playing up? Happens twice today! Not good enough for a 4 week old machine, it also does not spin very well. Not happy!!! Any ideas?

I am on tank water and have plenty but am concerned about the pressure and what type of hoses are currently on the speed queens. Will the water flow into the machine efficiently or will it just dribble in like I found out ten years ago when I purchased a Kleenmaid? Has this been improved. I am about to purchase and would like to buy your brand. Carol

Craige C.Speed Queen
Hi Carol,
Thanks for you question.
The current range of Speed Queen laundry require a water supply with a water pressure of 140-830 KPI or (120 psi)which Is standard for most washing machines.
The hoses are 1.2 metres with metal fittings made specifically for the SQ washer with a metric fitting on the tap end with a imperial fitting on the end that connects to the washing machine.
While there have been changes to the water inlet valves it is still possible to have flow problems with low pressure gravity fed systems. There are modifications available that can remedy some of these issues.
Please contact Speed Queen @ 1300washer for further information.

Where can I get a copy of the operations manual for the AWNA62? The website support page keeps saying there is no electronic manual for this model. I have installed this model in a house I manage in another city for my tenant and I need to have a copy of the manual to help explain things (my tenant is 75). If there really is no electronic manual (hard to believe in this day and age, can some scan a copy for me, please? Thank you. Rob

When doing a Normal load without without fabric softener should I have the machine set to regular or high efficiency. What is the difference? From reading the manual it says use high efficiency but it takes 106 minutes. I have a new top loader .
2 answers
You can use Fabric Softener with either and I believe the high efficiency takes longer because it uses less water. I use the Whites setting for most washes it takes about 37 mins hope that helps.
I have it set to regular... I'd rather have my load clean in a short amount of time. It uses extra water, but you can also judge how much washing to put in. I usually put in a lot more than it advises for the water level, and there is still plenty of swish room in the water to have clean, undamaged clothes. The high efficiency is a bit redundant, as you can open the lid, or turn to off, for soaking if wanted. I miss the old style washing machines where you could select from a 6 - 24 minute wash. *sigh*

I've always had a front loader but need to replace it and am reconsidering my options as I'm tired of low capacity, long wash cycles and "clean" laundry that still smells.
I have two main concerns regarding top loaders. Can you really wash very delicate things in them such as lingerie and stockings? Do they crease the laundry more? I don't usually iron cotton bed sheets and cotton tee shirts.
2 answers
This washer washes really clean, no smells. Stockings and Bra's we put in a zip up laundry bag but only do that to stop the tangling. Undies, lingerie and delicate things just all go in together in the normal wash load. Dark articles go in another load. After washing they all come out smelling fresh. We don't iron our sheets either, they are not absolutely silky smooth but after drying on the line there its not all that many wrinkles in them, we fold them and put them in the cupboard for the next use. We do iron tee shirts, I guess you could wear them unironed because again they are not greatly wrinkled. We are really happy with the new machine as we were with the old one. Lastly I guess I can't compare with a front loader as we have never owned one.
On the current 2106 Speed Queen I have, there is a delicates setting on the dial.
I never iron sheets etc, they are fine out of the drier or off the drying racks, most cotton business shirts are ironed, but not all, same with work trousers. I can't compare with front loaders as I have never owned one, ( always seemed too much effort bending down ) . Everything out of the Speed Queen always smells and feels clean...
Kerry Hollyasked
Does the Speed Queen top load washing machine have a lint filter? I would buy a speed queen based on these user reviews but I won't buy a washing machine without a lint filter. I have heard all the stories about the lint going out with the water but I don't believe this would happen. I hate lint and must have a lint filter. I also like my washing to come out clean and from what I have read in the reviews the speed queen does a good job at cleaning. My only concern is lint. Any help or feedback would be much appreciated.
1 answer
Craige C.Speed Queen
Hi Kerry,
The short answer is no, Speed Queen top load washers do not have a lint filter. Most of the stories we hear about excess lint in washers come from machines that have been designed expressly for the US market and or commercial only use. They have a different pump and draining system that does not cater for lint removal from the machine during hence saving time. In the US and in commercial only uses the lint is removed from the wash load by the clothes dryer.
In Aust. where we dry on clothes lines you can see how this would be a problem.
For this reason the current Speed Queen washers are designed differently the US models so that linting is minimalized very similar to how the older Australian made machines were designed.
Further information can be obtained by calling 1300washer.
Many thanks for question, regards SQ
