Very average ute
Bought it 7 months ago with all view to having it short term until I could manage to scrape together enough money for a better vehicle. Primarily purchased it due to the Mercedes connection. Parts....my god, parts are a problem. If you're lucky enough to find a wrecker that stocks Ssangyong parts, at least you can get back to work. But prepare to be slugged an absolute motza for the luxury. Driving is hairy as 100k plus, it's quite unstable, every now and then I could hear the roof flex with that wobbling metal sound. So I imagine that the stru...Read more
cture of the cabin is pretty flimsy and probably without supports. Poor pulling power, just ordinary all over. To top it off, with 235k on the clock my timing chain went and broke the cam into 4 pieces and totalled everything'sng else when traveling at only around 20km/h. So it's off to the gold coast wreckers now. For anyone out there that needs parts, feel free to call them. I'm sure they'd love to hear from you. Overall, I sure got to use it short term. A very costly exercise that I regret going ahead with. A massive mistake. A real piece of junk.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Most Under rated car on the Market
I have purchased a 2nd Musso, 2006 4x4 fully optioned, canopy, cruise control, tow bar, fog lights, larger fuel tank, alarm ( not really needed) car comes with immobiliser. Fully integrated pioneer sound system, have a good mechanic and a source for parts.
The ABS light issue is a computer logic error No. 41. needs to have diagnostic probes input into the car and this clears the error message.
Min problem is that car locking system gets a signal to lock the vehicle when the engine is running and keys in the ignition..

is extremely low, thus this means you can go and buy another one if parts become an issue. Not an issues in Australia. SsangYong dealers are not that helpful. Best to find a good mechanic who can source parts world wide. I sometimes have to wait 2-3 months, but this is rare as car runs well all the time and no real parts issues at this point in time. If car is serviced every 5000km then it will run forever. currently 2007 model is at 240,000km and the 2nd car (just purchased) has 117,000 km. Both vehicles run the same and appear to have same minor issues which are tolerable. Barring vehicle collision or theft the car will outlive me. Currently both vehicles do 20,000 km per annum.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Problems with the ABS light
My ABS light stays on,the brake pads not worn, the brake oil resevoir is at its normal level. What else could it be. I,ve now retired but find it good to drive, its ecomony is great for this size car. It has done many country runs, it does suffer from wInd noise at a higher speed

Really Love My Musso Sports Ute.
Hi I was looking for a cheap DualCab ute to replace my Hilux and after some research I thought I would get a good quality ute at an undervalued price with a Ssangyong Musso. I do quite a bit of mechanical work so I wasn't shy when I found a one owner that had a problem clutch/flywheel at a bargain price. I took it home shopped for a clutch and new flywheel as the dual mass flywheel had separated and making a horrible racket. Price was about $900 on ebay so shopped a bit more and found a secondhand engine with good clutch pressure plate and a so...Read more
lid flywheel for $300 (so now I have a spare motor as well). Dropped out the gearbox. (Heavy job). Changed the flywheel clutch and pressure plate over. Now it runs beautifully. I am really impressed with the ride, build quality and fuel economy etc of this vehicle. It has heaps of space. Everything functions well. I couldn't resist dressing it up with a set of Nissan Patrol mags. A Landcruiser polished Ali Tie on roll bar. Nudge bar Landcruiser sheepskins etc. So now it not only is a very good vehicle it looks the part as well! I like its looks far more than the next model Actyon sports ute although they got better looking with the 2013 modelSimilar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
Not an ok car for Ecuador!
Perhaps it is an Ok car, but in Ecuador it became a disaster, no parts, no experienced mechanics...
Now I urgently need a parts manual for the motor, and there is absolutely no place where to buy one, also in most of the case sI need to do repairing with adapted parts and finally it became impossible to sell, as it has an extremely low cost in the market.

What a wonderful surprise
My old car gave up the ghost in Carnarvon, WA. I was towing an 18' Caravan, fully loaded. I decided not to fix the old car and I spotted this 2006 SsangYong Musso in a car yard, a bit over the top price wise but I had a good feeling about it so I bought it, Diesel/Gas with 160000 ks on it. Hitched up the 18' caravan behind the Musso and headed south. The Musso did not even hiccup, it cruised at 100kph with the caravan on the back and used half the fuel the old car did. I am over the moon with it and will keep it for a long long time. Only minor problem was the hills and I had to change down a gear or so, but overall it is a fantastic 4by, totally underated

Bought an 06 with 160000kms
I find it a very comfortable ute, drives brilliant more like a car then ute, very cold air con, brilliant on diesel, very reliable, only negative was the factory tape deck which I quickly replaced with cd. Was worried when no bought as I haven't really seen many around but very pleasantly surprised.

Cheap and Cheerful
I have a 2006 Musso Sports 2.9L Diesel manual with LPG injection. I'm the 3rd owner it has 160ks on the clock and is in very good condition. It has a performance exhaust system and with the LPG this car really gives great fuel economy. I have to keep looking to check to see if the 2 tonne trailer is still there as the Musso pulls very well.
It is quiet inside compared to our old Hilux. I have owned the Actyon Sports and it was very good all round traded on a SPR Rexton. The Musso is a bit "Old School" but off road feels more sure of itself. Th...Read more

A Musso most amazing!
I bought my 2004 Musso Sports 2.9l turbo Diesel Manual Sports 18 months ago with 160,000 klms on the clock secondhand to pull a small caravan...Had no idea that it would totally surpass all of my expectations in such a short time!!! Firstly, it was crushingly cheap (as a secondhand 4wd for this year and mileage it was awesome...I had been looking at Landcruisers and Pajeros... all much older and with 300,000 klms plus for similar money...budget was around $6K.).. my Musso was fully appointed and accessorized, beautifully built, simple and st...Read more
raight forward to service for those who want to DIY maintenance, very spacious and comfortable, and great on fuel to boot! For a "Woolies McBenz" as someone else dubbed it here on Product review I have to agree..this vehicle is so totally underrated and is a totally hidden gem for those lucky to know them... Points for....cheap and easy to fix,.....getting parts for totally easy!(unfortunate history equals plus plus!!!.... Musso was was a lovechild for many marques (it's a very unique vehicle in this respect!!)...Mercedes/Daewoo/GMH/Ssangyong...so great parts support!...even better still on-line and cheap too!!!)Same as MB140/Sprinter mechanically so very common!...strong and powerful (though not overly quick!) Mercedes tech and engineering... Cheap on fuel...nothing else this size gets 9l/100 klms ! Reliable! Well engineered and put together...doesn't rust! Ride!...soft.smooth and controlled! (almost French!)(most Jap 4WDs ride firm as!)...Musso is luxurious and yet well controlled...feels safe,,,easy to work on and with lots of on-line DIY support (lots were sold to non 1st world markets where bush servicing and mods are the standard.... Pros...Not quick acceleration wise! Limited 4wd ability...not a huge ground clearance as standard without mods..(but plenty of grunt!)..very poor resale (bonus for me...will NEVER sell this gem! Not loved for it's looks..( I actually really like it's shape, but then I own Citroen s too..Ssangyong here in Perth is sold through the same dealer...lots of Ssangyong owners here in W.A also own Citroen! (go figure!!) Not the best for towing a caravan (I make this comment tongue in cheek since there are many times I FORGOT I was towing the van!!!,,,, poor van! Nearly had it all messed up a few times! Lol!) Conclusion! I love this beast! Sad that they stopped making them! The Ssangyong Musso Sports Ute and Musso SUV would have to be the most underrated, unknown and unloved 4wd ever to grace our planet! Lucky for me! I have one!Similar opinion? 2005 musso
Like my musso, so far have found great economy and reasonable reliability.148000km and the diff gave up for some reason at 120000, cost $2000.00 for 2nd hand fitted . This has been the only major repair so far! Changed gearbox oil as it seemed a bit crunchy getting into third gear, the oil I replaced was incorrect, the gearbox takes automatic transmission fluid not gear oil!! The right stuff( dexron111) solved the problem. I now prefer to service myself as of no confidence in service dealers. Wonder if the diff had correct oil replacement, ? If...Read more

A Hidden Gem in the Auto World
Bought ours new in 05 We have been right around Australia towing a light caravan (did 30.000 Klm that trip) after that we took it and punished it up the Old Telegraph Track to the top, it went where all the so called "big boys" went with ease.
It is looked after well (by me, a retired deisel engineer) with an opened out exhaust, street legal, sounds beautiful! and it has raised the power by at least fifteen "GGs'
Last week we did a trip from Bribie Island to Coffs Harbour without anything behind it and sat on around 100-105 and returned hei...Read more

north east dealer in adelaide are very poor service people and will duck rather than except to repair things quickly, first 6 month's of owning the car, the dealer had it more than i did . they have put grease marks on carpet and sun visor, paint on driver seat and dash which they denied until i seen the same paint on their workshop floor . they left oil filter cap loose causing a mess after service . always forgetting to order parts to do warranty repairs causing several trips to get things done, they seem to cause more damage to cars than...Read more
fixing them, they have scratched paint work . overall i think i got what i paid for, would never tell anyone to go through the same dealer price and rear seat size, can actually seat adults had to replce total clutch at 10,000kms, had 5 tough lids, they all warped out of shape and not installed properly, rust in tub from excessive re-installs still stuffed, wiring to towing was wired incorrectly . interior light has never worked correctly . door lock fell out, gear box noisey . paint peeling off . some control valve to the turbo keeps being faulty . a rear door was twisted causing air noiseSimilar opinion? The car is the best vehicle I have ever purchased
Purchased in May 2007 I own a Ssanyong Musso Sports, automatic pickup. 2.9 litre. no problems for 138,000km .
Tires (made in Korea last 110,000km and still have old ones as they have another 10,ooo km in them.. spares.
fuel effieiency as per manual. never put air in tires myself. serviced every 5000km and change all oils filters. Runs well and smooth. Never had a need to lift the bonnet. this is done during servicing only. Well alignment is perfect and never had issue with it . rotate as per manual. Interior engine still looks as new. The good thing about the Musso's I found out was that they were the last of the Ssangyong's with the Mercedes motors, so they are pretty reliable.

SAD TO SEE HER GO!!!
2006 Ssangyong musso sports 4x4 black auto... bought the car 2nd hand from a dealer back in 2007 with 35000km on the clock. recently i decided to upgrade to a toyota hilux sr 4x4 and will pick up the vehicle mid next week. The Musso had recently done 215,000km and apart from some minor issues, it was one awesome vehicle, all my friends had the normal hilux, triton etc and all were not impressed when i rolled up in the Musso...the car was simply great... reliable and a work horse... most undervalued vehicle on the market.. and this is coming fro...Read more
m someone who has previously owned a navara. Anyone considering buying one 2nd hand go for it. The only downsides I found were the resale value and finding a proper diesel mechanic which i recommend. all my friends hold the Musso in high regards after seeing what the car went through. Towing a 4.2m boat, cherrypickers and trailers were no hassle at all... the more KMs i clocked the more fuel efficient the car was... overtaking power and anything above 110km was a stuggle... fishing trips and minor 4x4 was very doable Most under-rated vehicle.. hope this helps someone... Value, reliable, just kept going overtaking, resale value, finding a proper diesel mechanicSimilar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
spacious and reliable
i needed a 4x4 for work (family business) and was shocked to find all the utes had such high klms for my budget, so i took a punt and went to a dealer to check it out, i can only compare to my previous 2 utes (98 triton and 02 navara) and i must say that i was impressed with the solid feel and quality of plastics and lack of rattles.
I tested the Actyon and felt i liked the old school of the 2006 musso a bit better, it has ample power, is very comfortable (im 6 foot) you dont feel like your sitting on the floor like other utes so you get bet...Read more

I think mechanics are good but bodywork and electrics not as good.
I dont see to many of the Musso Sports type here, its nice to know that there are others out there, even if they are at the other side of the world.
The Musso has been quite popular here in Iceland but I dont see to many Sport. For 2005 model with 36K km it was a good price for 4x4.Comfortable ride, seats 4-5 people well.Economy alright for this size of car.I believe engine and drivetrain is of good quality.

How easy to replace glow plugs on 2005 2.9 turbo musso sports
1 answer
Am sorry but I am not really sure I am not a mechanical professional. In addition my SsangYong Musso is only a couple of month old hens has not required any spark plugs. I did have spark plugs changed on the SsangYong Korando but I took it into the workshop as it was too complex to remove peripherals to get the spark plugs out. It was not too expensive and I think I paid about $280 all up.
Sorry I couldn't be of any further assistance.

Another fantastic holiday in the Musso, cruising at 100kph with diesel and the gas injection I pass a lot of road houses without the need to stop for fuel. Remember to buy fuel in town not on the outskirts nearly always cheaper.
