I purchased the Rx 320 Ssangyong Rexton, What a car, a huge difference, compared to my previous cars I had before, old used cars like Mazda and Nissan Patrol the Rexton RX 320 mode has an S Class Mercedes benze engine, it's two years now not any problems yet driving on and off road

Great vehicle

published

I have owned this vehicle for over two years and have had no problems as yet, the power is great and the gearbox (auto) is smooth. I have installed airbag suspension as I tow a pop top camper van and the ride and economy is excellent. After driving a Nissan Patrol for several years, this vehicle is like driving a limo. Now in its tenth year and still going strong with no problems at all. If Ssangyong put sat nav and reverse cameras in as standard I would even consider upgrading to a new one.
Overall features and power of engine
Limited knowledge of vehicle from dealers and parts suppliers

Great car. Purchased new in 2006. Was 2005 badged. RX270XDi

Vehicle has done 150000km. Has been used as a comuter vehicle as well as beach work. Has not failed in any way. Very good on fuel. Purchase fuel filters from DELPHI distributor. Much cheaper than from SSangyong Dealer. Oil filter over the counter from parts specialist. My mate purchased 1 after my recommendation.
Powerful, fuel efficient real goer. Everything works.
Tyre size hard to find. Shocks leave a lot to be desired.

300k update 9 years

I bought this car at a charity auction as there were no bids for it, initially there was a clutch and fuel gauge issue that was repaired promptly. Since then it has been a farm runabout with a lot of city work, hit 3 kangaroos and been momentarily under sea water, (big wave on the beach). The engine (2.9l diesel) has chugged along tirelessly. Fuel economy has been 8l/100km on long runs (95-100km/hr best economy) and tows 100km/h easily. Service every 20000km. Has been very reliable but as there is no resale or trade in value, I will try for 400k then take the $50 scrap value and try a Great Wall ute

I am worried about resale value when i come to get rid of it next year. I would look at a new model but it would depend on what I was offered as a trade in.
I have liked owning and driving it.
The fuel gauge does not go back to full when you fill the tank(diesel). they tell me it is a common problem but don,t have a fix for it.

If the parts were available locally and dealers had parts in stock the pain wouldn't have been so great. However, once one thing went wrong, it was down hill from there. Initially I was extremly happy with the prestige car on a peasants wage, but now it has cost more than that!
I appreciate greatly all the features that they advertise.
I have done 66000 klm's and have noted some minor issues which became major all over issues.Once one thing went other things followed suit. Add to this poor service from the dealer, Ian Parker. There was an 8 week turn around in waiting for parts from overseas and dealer error.

Bought my car last year a 2005 320 for AUD29000.00 i am getting 12l/100 and are very happy, change of circumstances has meant i need a seven seater so thought i would trade. Dealers are offering me AUD13000.00 that is crap. Ssangyong need to do more to market this vehicle and to make it attractive to buyers new and used. They should have some obligation to protect their customers. I will be interested in what a ssangyoong dealer will offer me
love it great car to drive and has lots of features

Very comfortable, stylish, excellent on and off road driving, make sure the Dealership servicing the car knows what they are doing. Ssangyong Aust. Head Office (Sydney) did'nt want to know about it cause the warranty had run out..??
Value for New 4X4 vehicle, comfortable on and off road, spacious.
had the car for nearly 3 1/2 years 150000 km. when the lack of knowledge from Dealership stripped the threading of all 5 glow plugs, I was told $6500 to replace cylinder head, and would have to wait 6 weeks for delivery. I sent the head to local Mercedes workshop, and was repaired for $2100. So if ya want spares for any of Ssangyong vehicles be prepared to pay big bucks and have the car OFF the road for long period of time.

Apparently parent company in receivership in Korea. Future looking very shaky. Explains lack of resale I suppose. It's not pretty so a lot of people wont look past that.
Seemed like good value
Heavy on Fuel. Went to trade it in and other dealers who dint want to know about it. Ssangyong dealer wouldn't buy it back at any price.

In the 114,000 klms it has done a lot of 4wd.
I put in Koni shockers and it handles dirt, corrugations very well.
As all mechanical parts can be obtained from non Ssangyong dealers servicing is cheap.I also can do it myself.
I changed tyres from 255/65 x 16 to 245/70 x16 as these as easier to obtain outback.
Very reliable
The 290 diesel lacks a bit of power

Rexton Y200 / Y220 (2003-2006)

I have a Ssangyong Rexton 2.7 xdi 2006. The auto transmission seems as if it cant decide what gear to go in. Sometimes when I stop I have no gears at all and have to turn the ignition off and on then I get gears but it lacks power.
Any ideas on the problem?

Hello, I have a 2004 270XDI THE CAR HAS an erratic temp gauge when it will hear right up every now and then but car not hot

Anyway I've noticed I dont have any Parker lights on both sides front, not do I have tail lights on the passenger rear, all bulbs are good however 1 tail light bulb is missing,

What I do find strange is all the bulbs on the rear passenger will light up when the left indicator is on with the headlights and brake pedal, with all of the above on the left Indicator flashes fast like it is missing the rear bulb but is on solid with 1 other bulb on very dim and the rest working properly,

Anyone have any ideas on what may cause this, I find it very odd, could this have something to do with the temp gauge (read on a forum broken tail light can affect this also)

First change the thermostat and temp sensor. This also allows the connections to be "fiddled with" cause this car has terrible connections! About the lights, again fiddle with connections first.

Rexton Y200 / Y220 (2003-2006)

I am having problems with my Diesel Rexton 2.7 when I turn left or right sharply there a loud clunking noise which seems to be from the the transfer box area. But other times it appears to be from the front of the vehicle. I have had the front of the diff removed to make sure everything is okay in there. The CV joints have been serviced and are okay. I have just had the transfer box fully serviced and the transmission. As soon as I take the front tail shaft there is no problem turning no clunking at all. So I am and so is my mechanic at loss as to where the problem lies. I am wondering if it could be a problem with computer because I have a spare to replace it.
