Would give it no stars if possible - Not secure and not run by St George.
1) This card is not secure and not operated by St George. It is just sold by St George. That is why you have to have a separate app to use it, which requires less log in security password and questions. This information was never disclosed to me.
2) Due to the card NOT being secure, I received fraudulent charges. My card was cancelled due to this, but not before I had lost almost AU$600 in charges. It takes 45 days to received these funds back.
3) Although my card was cancelled, NO effort was made to contact me to notify me of the cancellation ...Read more

Card does not work
I went to try the card out locally in Australia to make sure it worked and it doesn't. I have activated and and loaded it with AUD. Sounds like this card is going to be more trouble than it's worth. Glad I tried it out locally first.

It helps us a lot. A good travel card.
We use it in USA. This is only card we prepare to use here. It is convenient, very easy to use. shopping, hotel, restaurants, ATM withdrawals. No problems. If you need rent a car here please take credit cards with you. Globle currency card can't do that. And it can't use to buy money order in Walmart. If you reached ATM withdrawal limits, have to wait for 24hours. Not just after midnight. Have to wait 24hours from the time your last withdrawal. This is our experiences. Hope it helps. We are very happy with it. Thank you.

DISASTER
Easy to transfer money on to card from my own bank account but money left on card is lost as can't be transferred back to my bank account. Can transfer money from Qantas Travel Card back to my bank account so why not St George!

Waste of time and money
Used the debit card as hotel security holding in San Fran and I have to wait for 30 days to get the money back into my account.
Called St George and was told to get the hotel to send a FAX yes a FAX to St George to speed up the refund or wait 30 days.
I had an email from the hotel but St George will not accept an email
I was told a third party and not St George handles the transaction

Absolutely dreadful- avoid!
I had problem after problem with this card. Whenever I tried to make an overseas withdrawal (the whole purpose of having the card is for situations like this), it would get blocked “for security reasons.” I would then have to phone St George from overseas (it’s not a free call, either), and wait on hold for up to 15 minutes to unblock the card. One particularly ludicrous time, the person at the call centre told me I would have to come into a branch and show ID to unblock the card. For god’s sake, I was OVERSEAS! I couldn’t just go to a St George branch. Luckily, I had another bank account, because otherwise, I would have been completely without money.

Lost money and wasted my time
Extremely disappointed. St George failed to tell me it wasn’t even working when I had already activated it prior to going overseas and converted money on it. Then I had to convert the money back from USD to AUD and lost money. Man I spoke to for help was argumentative and unhelpful. Never use again

Very disappointed
Haven't left Australia yet and already unhappy with the card. Sorry to say St George has been deceptive in their promotion of this card. $A500 only converted to 263 Euros, that's 10 cents lower than the exchange rate equivalent. To then change it back to Aussie dollars, within 5 minutes, I would have received $A465, that's a loss of $35 in 5 minutes. Performed these transactions in the branch and was advised that "that's how the stock market works."
Will be emptying it out and not reloading - rip off.
I have been a customer with St George for decades, very disappointing.

Look for a card elsewhere- AWFUL
This card was delivered very quickly and was described to me as easy to use with the online global card app- separate from the st George app. Although it was incredibly easy to transfer money to the card, but not from the card. I was unable to transfer any of the funds back to my normal St George account which is SO unhelpful. It had the option to transfer to a few currencies (Euros, USD, etc.), but the St George employee told me I could transfer to Indonesian dollars- Wrong. I was then informed it still had lower withdrawal fees and would auto...Read more
matically transfer currencies without any fees and that I could use it to withdraw from ATM’s as well as pay via eftpos. Again wrong. I quickly realised it was simple to withdraw needed money from ATM’s but would not allow me to pay for things via eftpos which was not desirable having to carry large amounts of cash around places while shopping. Once I had returned from overseas, I thought it would be as simple as going to the St George Cashier to withdraw the money. Wrong. I was told I had to use the ATM. When doing this, the ATM declares I needed to contact bank and was unable to withdraw the leftover funds. Due to the staff at St George not being trained in the Global Currency Card and accounts (including the branch manager), this made it difficult. I was told I’d have to call the assistance number. Why should this card be offered as an option by the staff when they are not trained in using it, when the app doesn’t have features to make it easy to transfer to and FROM and when it is not a card the cashiers can use to withdraw the cash from. I do not recommend this card and will be looking elsewhere for my next travel card.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Wouldn’t give me a card unless I opened an account
After a fruitless attempt to get a Westpac Global Currency Card (see my review of that card), I saw St George was running the same $50 bonus promo. I attempted to sign up for this at the branch in Queen Street Mall in Brisbane, as there is no way to sign up online unless you’re a customer already and have internet banking access. I never got the card, as despite all their advertising, staff said I had to be a customer to sign up, despite that not being a condition on either their website or in the advertisement. Again like Westpac, staff tried ...Read more
to pressure me into opening a transaction account, with monthly fees associated. It’s a shame, because I actually fit the use case for this card as it has free withdrawals in Ukraine at a preferential rate.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Good for purpose
We used a global currency card on a recent trip to Japan. In view of the negative reviews it had received, I had had misgivings about whether or not it would work, but fortunately there was no problem. Having said that, we used it only at post offices in Tokyo and Kyoto, and just one store (to see if it would be accepted, and it was), for a purchase worth about $A60. I liked the fact that we were able to load it up while the exchange rate was quite good. Also, we were given a second card, which would have been handy had we lost or mislaid the first one.(Different pins for both cards; some might not like the hassle, but I like the extra security) We'll definitely take it on our next overseas trip.

Completely Useless
Loaded up the card with US dollars. Ensured I knew the logins & passwords. Could not use the card at all!!! Not to tap, enter a PIN to purchase, not to sign for a purchaw and could not withdraw from an ATM!!! Plus the customer service number didn’t work either! I had to withdraw cash from my St George credit card. This morning I called Customer Service and they have refunded the interest on cash advances back to my credit card. I have converted the US dollars to AUD and just went to an ATM here in Sydney and still can’t access the money! Bloody frustrating!

Joke of a card
Firstly, if you load 1000 dollars your available balance will immediately show $920 available. So in order to avoid the large fee you are to spend it at converted currency. This is difficult to do when they take 30 days to return funds that are held by hotels or car rentals etc which I would think is a pretty common thing to do overseas . Because of this hold, I was unable to spend my converted currency overseas and now I will be charge the 80 dollars. ALL ST GEORGES FAULT.
oh and extremely rude and unhelpful customer service.

Easy to load and go
The currency card was extremely easy to load straight from my bank account with little to no fees the exchange rate for me was actually not too bad, considering what others charge. there were plenty of ATM's around to use and withdraw cash with, and when using eftpos it was as simple as selecting the credit option... also having the app makes things easy to see how much you have in each wallet.
Now for the downsides of the card.... the little microchip thing is pointless as it did not let me "paywave" at all. And it really sucked when the plac...Read more

Unable to purchase online, unable to payWave/tap, have to sign (not PIN) for almost all transactions
My wife and I both obtained these cards for a 5 week multi country European holiday. Prior to leaving we were unable to purchase online ‘tourist’ tickets as ‘Visa’ (not St George) kept cancelling the transactions as possible suspicious activities. These cards are designed to make overseas purchases..........After 3 LONG interactions with St George we were assured the issue was corrected; WRONG. We were unable to use the cards during our holiday to purchase online tourist orientatated tickets, with the same issue with Visa occurring. These car...Read more
ds don’t have a payWave capability. Therefore, you can’t simply ‘tap’ for purchases such as a couple of coffees/drinks etc, PayWave was everywhere we visited (except on our Global Currency Cards). Even more frustrating/ridiculous, is the fact that of the many 100’s of transaction we completed in our 5 week holiday, only 5-10 counter based purchases were via our PIN numbers. Almost ALL of our transactions required us to sign and then present the card for signature comparison. Who signs anymore????, it’s all via a PIN now! Retailers were very frustrated at the extra time/effort required to serve us via this antiquated method. I would have rated the St George Global Currency Card a ‘1’ if it was not for the fact the supporting/related app is efficient once you are familiar with it.Similar opinion? Useless
Currently in Chile. Does not work for transactions in shops; only works at ATMs which defeats the purpose for me as I did not want to carry large amounts of cash or go to the ATM all the time. Called the "customer service" line and it was the opposite of helpful. She was very condescending and offered no advice - saying just try again (which I did without any success by the way). Don't waste any time on this product. Just use your normal card.

Don't bother with these cards
I recently had a six week holiday in the UK and did my tax return before I left Australia. I asked my accountant about this card and others and he said that if you get one of these cards then load it up with foreign currency and make sure that you spend all of that currency whilst overseas. Then cut up the card and throw it away. He also said that if you have an Australian debit card it can be used to withdraw cash from ATM's overseas. You need to inform your bank that you will be making large withdrawals overseas so that they don't think that ...Read more
someone has stolen your debit card and is living the high life at your expense. I had my limit increased to $2,000 so I could withdraw 1,000 pounds from a UK ATM that displayed the Visa logo. Also get a anti RFID wallet so that you can't be scammed by people using an electronic device to get your card details. It also pays to have an anti RFID bag to keep your passport in for the same reason. Pay for everything in cash whilst overseas for if you don't you will be charged currency conversion and transaction fees on every purchase you make. Yes you will be charged a currency conversion fee when you withdraw from a foreign ATM but it's only one fee not multiple fees if you use your card overseas like you do at home.Similar opinion?
