Perfect
Good car and easy to drive, really cheap on fuel. Subarus are good cars because they are all wheel drive. I feel safe when I'm driving in the car and it's a reliable car to get you where you need to go, not much to fault on this car very happy

Beautiful and fun car to drive - excellent power
I have had this car for 6 months and it has been nothing but a pleasure to drive. I have not had a single issue with the car, except that i drive more enthusiastically which uses more petrol! the spec-b suspension is unbelievable. Interior looks modern and up to date even though it is 10 years old design. The mcintosh sound system is OK, i installed a parrot bluetooth to add bluetooth experience.

Perfect first car, very reliable
This is my first car and I love it. As the vehicle is AWD, it creates a smooth and controlled driving experience, in addition to that, the cruise control function makes driving so much easier. The interior and cosmetics of the car has a modern feel despite being a MY05 model. Unfortunately there is no bluetooth or AUX audio function, however with two cigarette lighter ports, it allows me to use a FM tuner to play music through my mobile device. It's current running cost is $55-$65 a full tank which usually lasts 1.5 weeks with day to day commutes. I've owned this car for over a month now and have had no problems.

Pleasure to drive
We didn't know what car we wanted to replace our Ford Escape? Subaru had a pretty good deal on a car I hadn't considered. The test drive and sales man was rather good and we decided on the suburu liberty. This was exciting but we never imagined how awesome it would be until it was ours and we got to drive it permanently. It's smooth, quiet and powerful enough to be zip yet a rather decent sized car. We are a family of 5! Very spacious for what appears to be a small car. AWD once you've had if I don't think you'd ever want to go back, very happy customer !

The complete wagon.
Brilliant wagon. Not luxury but everything you need, comfortable, accessible, well designed, roomy, easy to service etc. The Liberty is a simple to maintain point and shoot wagon that does what a vehicle that it is should do. I use it for everything from everday travel to going camping and skiing and it's never failed me.

2.5 ltr motors head gasket failure. USA forced a recall, but not here in Aus.http://forums.whirlpool
2007, 77k (as of 2017), full service. City only drive. Just told that the head is beginning to leak, 2500-3500 (some paid 6000) repair plus control arm rubber failing (price??)
This one owner car was to last my healthy aged mother till she can drive.
DONT buy any 2.5 subaru non turbo.

What an admazing car.
Enough power to push you back in your seat and to make passing a snip. I really hate CVT thought Subaru would have been better going for dual clutch but heard the new tune is good, took for a test drive and was impressed and brought it. On b roads and highways I'm getting mid 8's l/100kms very nice for 3.6, flat 6 one of the few truly balaned engines so super smooth 1700rpm at 105 km. All this nice stuff aside (apart from the loud tyres) eyesight is f$@ken awsome for motorway driving, could save your skin one day also makes driving more relaxed.
Pitty the high beams are not LED, also no DRL well no fancy LED ones anyways, small sunroof from 1990's. Very happy with the car.

Great car, surprisingly fast
Bought a 3.0R Spec B late last year. Overall pretty good car - I've owned a few Subaru turbos over the years and wanted something different (no turbo lag in particular), The 3 Litre motor is just awesome. I was shopping for an auto wagon - but when I drove the 6 speed manual I loved it. So a quick assessment:
Pluses:
- really nice 6 cylinder motor, great response, surprisingly fast
- awesome Bilstein suspension
- great 4wd
Minuses:
- a bit skittery on rough road
- sulky key remotes - won't work if it is raining!
- chassis rigidity poor - needs front strut brace
That last point is hugely significant - with the brace installed is is a different car, a pleasure to drive and confidently push into corners!

Safe, solid and Subaru.
Our 5th Subaru so we have a bias but whenever we try other brands we end up back with a Suby. This is the safest and most electronically advanced Subaru yet sold in Australia. Same engine and same suspension setup as always but loaded with hi-tech safety features like autonomous braking, lane departure warnings, very intelligent cruise control all controlled by Subaru's proprietary Eyesight system. All Liberties and Outbacks share the same engines and internal setup with $10k worth of mods to the Outback's ride height and body kit making it a g...Read more
reat package but $5K too expensive. A safe, solid car, the 2.5i version with the best CVT in the business is still about 30KW under powered. The 3.6 litre engine is great but at $50K far too expensive for the extra power. The 2.5 Liberty or Outback (now with a diesel option!) is pretty good value in a crowded market place, it's incredibly reliable, long lasting and it runs on standard fuel but is still set back a little by: hard, noisy Dunlop 18" low profile tyres, lack of fixed price servicing, underwhelming SatNav/iPhone integration and annoying warning notifications designed by lawyers and insurance companies. The dashboard layout lacks the elegance and logic of the better European makes and the sedan misses out on a rear wiper on the rear window. Still worth buying though, especially as a demo or a year old model.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Perfect car, couldn't be happier!
Excellent driving experience, powerful yet quiet and fuel efficient which is ideal. Interior and exterior is comfortable, tidy and modern. Only thing I would change is having a rear window wiper for cold mornings, other than that I couldn't ask for much more. So far it has treated me very well, reliable is an understatement.

I've already lost my licence since owning this car
I've pretty much owned Subaru's for the past twenty years (except for two other vehicles). Since learning to drive in a 1992 Liberty I have fallen in the love with Subaru's and have driven more different models then I can be bothered counting.
From foresters, impreza's and now my 2016 Liberty I have seen it all. Broken headgaskets, leaking CV joints and drive shafts and destroyed suspensions. I've seen more obtuse mechanics then i can shake a stick at.
Normally I would have considered buying a second hand Liberty but on viewing the vehi...Read more
cles on sale at my local dealer I was amazed at the offering. Since the free trade agreement with Japan the cost of new Japanese vehicles has plummented. Not only that but the base models are now loaded with the sorts of extra's that the mid & top range vehicles come with. From reversing camera's, the eye drive system (more on that), big wheels, mags, and leather inserts the car comes more loaded then an american in Los Vegas. So the good.Similar opinion? Prefered my 2002 Subaru Manual Liberty
We love this car, it has a nice drive.. some issues I've found include clock is very small and the car is quite big which makes manouvering into small spaces difficult. Disappointed that parking sensor was an addition and only works for the rear. I wish it was still made in manual.

Lucy, my 2006 Tuned By STi Liberty GT
Dream car, made with care.
When Driving my 06 TBSTI, I know I'm wrapped in safety. She's spacious, comfortable, makes decent power, good on fuel and when maintained, will last for ages.
With the right child seat configuration, you can also fit 3 across. I also know, without kids seats, you can lay the rear seats down, and fit a 2seater couch in.
My Lucy has been tuned to make it more fuel efficient with an increase of power. Being 11 years old, she is getting on. But, I won't be selling her any time soon. She is my dream.

Excellent Car. Happy to be back in a Japanese vehicle!
Switched from a 3 year old VW which had been a reliability nightmare. The Liberty lacks the refinement of the (admittedly much more expensive) Passat however is a much better car overall. AWD feels like it's glued to the road. The 2.5L engine is a little slow off the line but performs well in the mid-rev range when the CVT gets to work. CVT takes getting used to but it is better than the DSG. Fuel economy isn't great around town, but that's fairly common with most Subarus. Cabin is comfortable. Go for the ivory seats if you don't have kids to w...Read more
reck them. Has been generally reliable. A battery required replacement very early on after it died (car left for 10 days) and wouldn't take charge again. It was frustrating to jump it, have it die, jump it again, take it to the dealer who said it was fine, have it die again (at 6pm in the rain at Bunnings)... but it was eventually replaced with a new battery and has been fine so far. This is our second Subaru and won't be the last, however they really need to improve customer service at the dealers (and at head office) and extend the service schedule to 12 months.Similar opinion? Best shaped Liberty Sedan Ever
This is a brilliant car. It's my wife's car and has 178K on the clock still running strong, great engine power, smooth ride, great AWS, ABS and general steering. For an old 2.5 Litre box engine, it really goes with great torque!
Never had the head off, has front end steering replaced, original suspension so the costs have extremely low for the fifteen years we have had the car. Bit hungry on the fuel by today's standards at 10 litres/100km but what a ride. The Heritage has all leather and that is still all like new as well. Probably last of ...Read more
the old school Japanese solid build with #1 QA control. The usual 170K slight oil leaks around rocker cover and head but apart from that no other issues. What a great machine. Best sleek sports like design that looks good even by today's standards. This car would be an excellent buy for a young mechanic that could rebuild the engine and then just drive it for another 100KSimilar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Nice smooth old car but the maintenance is crap!
Bought this liberty with 164,000km on the clock. Overall it was a great car drove smooth for its age and had a full service history, but needed lots of work to keep it running efficiently and chewed fuel.
Positive:
-smooth power steering (better than some new cars!)
-hardly worn tyres out as it drove so smooth and suspension was still working efficiently (coils and shocks all OEM for 20 year old car working fine)
-nice and spacious maybe 6 foot people in the back might be cramped if the driver and front passenger is 6 foot but I wouldn'...Read more

Good car.. Great road grip
Good value for money. You get almost everything that a European car offers but at an affordable price and with reliable Japanese engineering. The all wheel drive by Subaru is great and the new look is very good. It is bit more efficient than the Toyota aurion I had before this car.
The only thing I am not very impressed by is the CVT engine. It is ok but not great though it's very smooth.
I will however definitely recommend this car. I am also a Subaru fan now :)

Lacking in power but overall a good driving experience
We first purchased our 2002 GX Liberty in October 2015, kind of on a whim as we needed another car ASAP due to our previous one being written off and apart from needing to get a new set of tyres for it since purchase it hasn't been a bad car at all, it's the 2.0 litre AWD version.
Positive:
Reasonable fuel economy
Good interior space for 4 adults
Nice sized boot
Negative:
Can be expensive for parts
Servicing through Subaru is VERY EXPENSIVE hence I avoid going to them

Good Value for Money
2.5i sedan has good fuel economy around town and on the freeway. Good balance between exterior size and interior space. Well finished inside and out. Feels solid. Handles well. Boot capacity only slightly smaller than Commodore sedan but much easier to park with its lighter steering. Would have liked daytime driving lights to come on automatically. Digital clock display is small and hard to read. Could be bigger and better placed closer to driving position say on info screen. Need to take eyes off road for too long to find it and read the time....Read more
Dual zone climate control good. Very good safety features with eyesight and lane departure warming beeps. Seats comfortable but would have liked electric seat adjustment plus tilt front up or down as per Commodore. USB outlet hard to get at particularly on the dark.Similar opinion? What’s the mechanical differences with a Subaru Liberty wagon and Subaru Outback wagon 2002 year models

SubaruSubaru Australia
Hi @ Jos, There would be no mechanical differences in between those models except possibly gear ratios and the Outback may have high and low range. The Subaru Team.
