Purchased at 270,000km from a family member, who had it since 90,000km. It's been bashed around, internally (dogs, equipment, people) and externally (off-road, camping adventures around NSW) and yet it just keeps going. We go 4WDing and it goes most places the big boys can go. It's only off-road limitation is ground clearance, which means really rocky ascents and descents require some skill and the occasional piece of wood.

I bought my 2002 outback 2.5 manual 3 years ago from an auction. I have since put around 60,000 on the clock and even drove it across the Nullabour from Sydney to Perth in it. Absolutely love it so far. Apart from your usual maintenance and wear and tear items, hasn't had anything go wrong with the car. This is for a Subaru Outback 2002 (MY03) H6 3.0L GX.
It is probably the best vehicle we have ever owned and we are up to 27. Used to change vehicles regularly as could never afford a new car. This is our 5th Subaru and 2nd Outback. The first one was a 99 2.5L we kept for 5 years (very good and set the benchmark on cars for us).
The 3.0L H6 raises the bar and is a much nice machine to drive but was out of our reach before.

As above.. the quality of finish is remarkable, the mechanical performance has been exceptional. Car has now done over 120,000K without a problem. The extra power outlet in the cargo bay is thoughtful and ideal for running a fridge or charging a mobile if the front outlet is running a GPS. Auto transmission changes gear smoothly even while towing but does not experience excessive changes. My wife loves to drive the car and even does her share of the towing willingly

We bought our 2002 Outback 2.5 in 2004 and were amazed at the quality and quietness of the car at the time. Once we had had the car for a few weeks, we realised the dark paint is impossible to stay clean and chips and cracks fast. At 180,000km, the headgasket blew in the car, much to our disappointment.
