Great for small family or single people
I use this car for daily transport to locations and road trips but not off roads too much. The car is very comfortable, the seat are well put together so sitting for long period of times does not impact your body as much as other cars. It is also very fuel efficient if you drive long distance and smooth, you don't feel the car switching gears or hear any sounds as it is quiet.
Only down side to this is boot space, it doesn't have enough space to fit more than 2-3 peoples worth of luggage depending on how much you bring as it got compensated for bigger room space for the people in the back seat
Purchased in January 2021 at Subaru Dealers for $31,000.00.

What a disgraceful automobile.
Back in 2013 I purchased a brand new Subaru XV for my wife’s birthday. This was after a few years of driving a car that spent more time on the back of a tow truck than on the road. As you can imagine she was very happy. Wind forward 5 years, that car has now done a massive 44336 kms. Less than 9000 kms per year. A few weeks ago this car went for its longest drive, nearly 3hours. Unfortunately the car didn’t make its final destination as the CVT gearbox expired. I have now got a car that doesn’t work, but the Subaru dealership where I purchased ...Read more
the car wants to hit me for $10k to repair this issue. The car has had all of its services as per the log book. As the dealership touched me up on the first service, I used another A grade mechanic who I trust. Now the dealership will not cover or even discuss this disgusting excuse for a car. Trying to discuss with Subaru, however I am not allowed to have the report from the dealership on the condition of my car. This is getting very nasty. And this after what I am reading on what is quiet obviously a problem with the gearbox. Gee we bought the Subaru because of the legendary toughness and durability of the brand. NEVER AGAIN SUBARU!!!!Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Unhappy with car shudders at low speed
I bought a 2017 Subaru XV Premium edition and it has had a fault from day 1. The car shudders at low speed almost to the point where it nearly stalls, especially taking off from lights. It makes for tough driving when in peak hour traffic. I took the car to a Subaru Service Centre and they acknowledged the problem however told me that it is a known issue but cannot be fixed. I was told by the Manager that the car is new and it's still learning and that it will hopefully go away. After having the car for 6 months and just over 6,000k's the ...Read more
matter is getting worse not getting better. I contacted Subaru Australia and was basically told to GO AWAY. I am very unhappy with the service that I have received so far from Subaru Australia, I clearly do not understand how a dealership can sell new cars with a known fault and get away with it. I am like all the others, have spent a lot of money on a car that will never be right. My previous car was a Toyota and I never had this much trouble with a Toyota Car or Toyota Australia, pity I switched makers.

Stylish & Economical
I am so happy with this car. It is so economical the fuel tank lasts so long compared to previous cars. It is really smooth to drive. The interior is sleek and although it may not seem like there is enough room it fits my car seat, pram & dog on holidays including or luggage. It is quite spacious. I mainly bought this car for the look but I couldn’t be happier with the way it runs and it makes me feel very safe as a bit higher up as I have been in a car accident previously. If I ever purchase another car it will definitely be from Subaru!

love my car
It was time for a quality car. I'm 50 now so stylish luxury it had to be. I specifically wanted beige interior and thankfully Subaru delivered. This car drives smooth and makes every journey a pleasure. The dark tint is beautiful and the instrumentation is easy on the eye. Highly recommended.

Easy to drive, economical high clearance car
I live in a country area with worn, potholed dirt roads with high centres that occasionally flood. The high clearnce of this car is ideal, it handles very well in all conditions and so far is reliable .
I downsized from an Xtrail and it occassionally feels a bit small for carrying gear, but it is a smaller grade of car.
It has also devolped the strangest internal squeaks, which are not mechanical.
Otherwise a great little car - 6.9l per 100k without aircon, 7.4l per 100k with aircon.
No complaints, a well engineered car that is a pleasure to drive in all weathers.

CVT problems commenced 98 000ks
Having purchased a used 2012 XV May 2015 (77.000ks), I began to experience bunny hopping at low speeds and multiple globes needing constant replacement.
I reported this at each regular vehicle service (always a subaru service centre) and the bunny hopping not only continued, but escalated as the months dragged on.
FINALLY, at the service towards the end of 2017, a computer fault code was displayed and the problem was found!! ... sadly the repair of CVT and wiring harness replacement necessary has cost me close to $6000 and loads of stres...Read more

It is a perfect car.
The feel-good drive of the year, the all-new Subaru XV has been completely reimagined for a smoother and roomier ride while delivering gripping performance on the road. Superb production design brings more tech, more efficiency and more fun than ever before. The all-new Subaru XV stars more of your favourite features as standard, All-Wheel Drive, advanced technology for increased fuel efficiency, a super large touchscreen.

Meets the mark
This is a dream to drive. It handles well but just a tad under powered, which shows up when needing that extra Acceleration. The gearbox, however, compensates with the correct ratio of engine revs. Extremely comfortable, which alleviates fatigue on a long trip. The only negative thing about the interior is the orange stitching, which argues with some exterior colors. On a trip the economy drops to 6.5/100.

Very happy
Purchased in 2013, have been very happy over the last 4 years (125000 km). Great to drive, running costs are ok, haven't had any major issues so far. One or two minor issues, main one being it always seems to run low on oil within the last 5k before a service is due. Placement of rear vision mirror could have been better.

A great concept poorly executed by Subaru
The car is kind of cute, has an particular style to it and has some appeal in being "different". The vehicle doesnt offer value for money, if you can find $30k of value in this after owning it for a year I would eat my hat. Again the concept is great but poorly executed - motor really lacks power, sound system and blue tooth is an absolute joke, the paintwork very thin, car is quite noisy inside, very cheap feeling interior and the drivers seat must the something they reupholstered from a war time blitz truck. The rear shock absorbers are just ...Read more
shocking, zero control of the rear of the car, rubbish manufactured by Showa, there is an aftermarket KYB shock to replace them with that is much better but still falls short of being very good. The FB20 engine likes a good drink of oil too if you are unlucky, mine goes as it is meant to but can consume 1 liter per 1000km on a hot weather day. The better things, fuel econ can be amazing, the clearance is excellent, the AWD system WILL find traction anywhere, brakes are very good and roadholding up to 100kmh is good but is very much attention seeking after 120kmh if road surface is not PERFECT. Look for a low km XV for about $17 000 if you can, at that there IS value in this motor carSimilar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Perfect Mix
Wonderful car! Absolutely incredible handling with Symmetrical AWD, you have to be going VERY fast to lose control, and even then, not all is lost because the safety and dynamics of the XV are incredible. 5 Star ANCAP, 7 Airbags and the rest make for the safest car in its class. Very strong brakes with good progression, and wonderful light weighted steering makes it an easy car in the city but more predictable and comfortable one in the country/highway. Off-road as with most Subaru's incredibly comfortable and tenacious with grip, you really ha...Read more
ve to push it into the corners before it begins to lose grip. In challenging off-road situations the XV just keeps going, very rough moguls, mud, sand and river crossing can be achieved in this car and it does it very confidently. A very capable car in almost every environment. The manual has good mid range torque despite its 198nm and with the 6 speed manual you can get more than enough power out of it. It's not a fast car unless pushed, but generally speaking is a good performing engine with plenty of power across the range. 0-100km is far faster than the CVT clocking in around 8.0-8.5 seconds. 1st gear is very short, and second is incredibly long making it difficult in the city at times, however out on the highway revs are very low and 2nd and 3rd are good gears for quick overtaking. Interior is dull but incredibly ergonomic and practical, as are the seats. Good support on longer trips, even in the rear, but nothing fantastic. Lots and lots of room for a car of this size, in the rear too there is enough for 2 large adults. Boot is small due to larger space in 1st and 2nd rows, however it is large enough for everyday duties. Capable of achieving 5l/100km on the highway, and about 9l/100km in the city, it is a very safe and easy car to live with. This Subaru says "I'm here to take you dependably, safely and confidently to your next destination... Maybe not in the purest of luxury or lightning quick, but in a very very confidence inspiring spirit" For the money, I would be hard-pressed to find a vehicle that performs so excellently in a mix of city, gravel, highway and off-road environments. It's an absolute perfect blend, and is the perfectly executed crossover. Pretty much no on road performance is lost whilst still keeping off-road capability, space and practicality. Awesome, awesome car from Subaru. Some Cons: * Clunky gearbox, not smooth, however mechanical in function, you always feel what gear its in, and the clutch definitely has a bite to it, just much later in the range.Similar opinion? All for the driver!!
Love my Subaru xv. We down sized for fuel savings and it has really one me over. On average driving, lots of hillls I am getting 7.4L/100km. We drove to kalgoorlie and it was sitting at 6.6L/100km. Handles beautifully. Have had to stop in angry for kangaroos and it pulled up straight and very quickly. Only one problem is the small boot, we have put a roof rack on though to help with that.
Family car and I feel very safe in it.

Absolute rubbish
The rear suspension is too tight or something and can't go over speed humps like a normal car as the noise is terrible. Sounds like its fully contracting really quickly. Could be easily fixed with better shocks I believe it seems to be on the rear drivers side. Brought the car brand new complained to dealer they didn't believe me we took 2 other XVs for a drive same issue answer from Subaru is don't go over speed humps too quickly. My reply is not only is my 2011 I20 more sophisticated I can go a lot faster over speed humps with no horrendous noise coming from the suspension.

So far, very impressed.
We've only had the car for several months, but so far, it has been excellent. No hiccups. Smooth ride. Plenty of leg space, especially for backseat passengers. Easy to park. Excellent air-con. Stereo not too bad - not top quality, but otherwise absolutely fine. Overall, a very positive purchase - no regrets at all.

Understated & excellent
My first choice was the Forester but as this was a replacement for my wifes Impreza she much preferred the size for city parking and looks of the XV. This car is no power house but the performance in all circumstances has proven to be satisfactory. The CVT once used to makes it a very relaxed vehicle to travel on Motorways, Highways and country backroads. We purchased the XV because we regularly visit a friends farm up fire trail up a steep winding mountain range, the XV with its superb ground clearance has proven itself extremely capable throu...Read more
gh the rutted sections and the AWD feel and feedback offers great confidence when the trail was muddy and as slippery as baby poo, even better than true 4*4s we'd driven up in the past. Negatives: Lack of boot hatch space, fixed for Holidays by buying a Rhino Rack luggage pod. Check the Dealer is not overfilling oil by a significant amount after each service, if more than a 1cm take it back to drain.5 comments

This mornings first cold start after getting back our XV was the first since their late Nov '17 service that the motor hasn't misfire stumbled so guess their above steps appear to have fixed the fault they caused, there is a slight but noticeable fast idle engine mis until the motor warms but I'm hoping this is only ECU relearning if they have disconnected the battery and hopefully will clear with driving.Similar opinion? Major Design Fault Spoils An Otherwise Good Vehicle!
I bought my 2015 Subaru XV Crosstrek in May based on research and reviews but mostly because I really need an AWD for our dirt roads. In the end it came down to price and I got a very good deal from the Subaru dealer in Bateman's Bay. We live in Tamworth but the XV was $5,000 cheaper than anywhere else, so it was well worth the drive.
PROS: very responsive handling, hugs the corners well, very smooth gearbox and clutch, comfortable seats, plenty of legroom, rear doors open up nice and wide to make it easier to get in and out, plenty of room to...Read more

Loving my new Subaru XV!
I have had my Subaru XV for 6 months now and I am still loving it. It performs well, especially in wet weather. My only complaint is having to reprogram my bluetooth every time I start up the car -it would have been great if it just remembered. The car is getting better fuel economy than we had expected - especially on the freeways. The best thing about this car is that it is easy to get in and out of, and to get things out of the boot. These things are helpful for people (like me) who are getting a bit older. The car is quite zippy and fun to drive. I really am quite happy with the purchase.

Oil consumer
The XV did not have the same build quality of previous (4) Subarus, but with constant 4WD, and good equipment levels was initially seen to be a good buy. In the first 2 weeks we experienced a dead battery on multiple occasions, which we had changed out by the dealer with little fuss, but our major issue was with excessive engine oil use. Engine oil warning light first came on at 4500km's and required topping up (over $100 for 5l bottle), and for every 4500km's later, almost a litre of oil was required each time. Discussed with Subaru and dealers, and on every occasion, were fobbed off explaining the oil use as being normal and acceptable. This was not acceptable to me and the result was we sold the car and bought a Toyota.
