The milk frother makes a crazy amount of froth irrespective of the setting (i.e latte or cappuchino
Taste comes out pretty bitter, the machine overall is super noisy especially when you put it on self-clean function to steam the milk out of the frother tubing and no matter what the setting the there is a crazy amount of froth in the mug. I.e. whether latte or cappuchino there's a huge amount of foam and often the milk has that burnt/too hot taste. The espresso function on its own is ok. It's been a few weeks, will report back after further tweaking.

Excellent price and excellent coffee
We have had this machine about 5-6 months. It's easy to use, makes fantastic coffee and pretty easy to maintain and keep clean. For the price I can't really fault it. Better than cafe coffee any day of the week! It takes a little bit of time to get used to the functions, but easy peasy once you do.

after a good year, things have gone south
Hi I've been using my machine successfully for about a year, recently (the last week) the machine is failing to produce sufficient Coffee/Milk to fill an ordinary mug. I've cleaned everything that I can clean but it hasn't changed the volume of coffee produced. eg. double click is producing less than a demi cup of latte.

Sunbeam were outstanding they replaced the machine and a year in very happy although am seeing signs of a recurring problem. Time will tell

Happy with purchase
Purchased on sale at Myer for $199 delivered. I have had to purchase some decaf coffee grounds as I was drinking too much coffee after my purchase. Temperature and taste is good (taste depends on grounds used, obviously). I drink espressos mostly and tend to make a long black by using the manual setting (which delivers about 150ml). The milk, as others have stated is a little frothy but close to the mark. I have not bothered with the single serve. You would need quite a small cup for the single serve to fill it. My normal sized mugs fit perfectly but need to decant into my travel mug (as I would with most devices). It is easy to use and clean and the milk reservoir is easy to disconnect and place in the fridge.

Fantastic
This machine is great, read reviews but honestly can not fault it taste is great better than a lot of coffee shops so easy to use and quick .The cleaning is so easy and love the fact I can store milk in container in the fridge. The temperature is just right to I always make a skim and a normal so far all perfect .

Excellent machine, I Love it.
This is my third espresso machine. The taste is for me, exactly as it should be, just excellent. Using of this machine is very, very easy, just excellent for me again. The cleaning is very, very easy too. Excellent again for me. I very appreciate, that tank for milk is removable and I can keep it in the refrigerator and I don't have to always wash and
clean it after use. By my opinion this espresso machine is just perfect and excellent. Specially for it's price. I don't see any point, to buy any, more expensive machine, because I know, that I will not find any different in the taste of coffee. Definitely not noticeable. That's all, I just Love this EM 5000 machine.

Frother stopped working after just 1 latte!
We bought this with great excitement, cleaned it, primed it, and made our first (and last) latte! It just stopped working after that. Tried all sorts of troubleshooting, but didn't work at all. I've never seen any product stop after just 1 use. What can possibly be the reason? No idea.

Very easy to use. Not so good for large mugs.
The coffee is great (buy stronger coffee). It's very easy to use and to clean. The only issue we have is that even though you can remove the bottom tray for larger mugs, most of our mugs are still too tall to fit into the machine so we had to buy new mugs.

Easy use & easy to clean.
Purchased this product yesterday, lost count of how many cappachinos I've made today while trying to get a decent cup of coffee. Can't seem to get it strong enough for our taste, even doing double shot in small cup. Hoping I just bought an unsuitable bean for our taste. Tried it finely ground & less finely ground to no satisfaction. We thought a double cup would at least fill a large mug. Lol
Very impressed with how easy it is to use & clean. Heres hoping the we can get a stronger flavour or we've blown our money.

Day 3, after a bit of playing around yesterday & weve perfected it
BTW, I'd now give it 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

great machine at an awesome price
This machine produces a fine tasting coffee, using both fresh & pre-ground coffee. I prefer a mug so the settings are perfect. I bought this machine to replace a manual machine and wouldn't even consider a pod machine (yuk!). This machine ticks all the boxes. I couldn't be happier, would definitely recommend to others.

Suprisingly efficient
Purchased to replace a Breville manual machine that lasted well ( 8 years) and not wanting to spend over $400 this is so far a pleasant surprise. I didn't want a capsule type machine & like a frothy cappuccino this is perfect for me, also great for lattes or espresso. It is a little noisy but we got used to it pretty quickly. It it lasts as long as the old Breville I'll be happy.

It now has to go in for repairs or I'll purchase another machine. Guess I'll be going back to a Breville.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Reasonable Value but can be bettered
We bought this as had good reviews on Consumer NZ. Very cheap at $199 on sale and great value. However, like many users our machine died after 3 years. It just gradually stopped heating up water.
We then looked in to other machines and ended up switching to a Breville Barista Express. The coffee is completely differen

My First Coffee Machine
Still experimenting with coffee to get one that I can taste. I grind and blend my own coffee so I want to be able to taste the coffee which doesn't happen with this machine. Also too much froth for both cappuccino and Latte settings which is unfortunate.Very easy and quick to use. Cleaning is a breeze. Having two to three coffees a day has paid for the machine in a month. As an entry point into coffee machines it is fine for now. Will probably upgrade to a better machine later.

Problems with 1st and 2nd machine
This appliance was a mother's day gift which made a great cappuccino twice, then stopped working and only released milk froth afterwards. We have just taken it back to Target for a replacement and the replacement won't even prime. It's not working at all. We will be getting a refund and buying another product. Not happy.

Bought yesterday, leaked from within onto bench!!
I bought this from target yesterday and I tried to use it this morning. I followed the instructions, primed the machine, and made a cuppacino. I smelt something funny from the machine, and when I tilted it found water coming out the bottom of it.
This was meant to be an upgrade from my 5-year-old sunbeam piccolo. This will be going back today. What a shame!!!

2 out of 3 is bad!
This machine (using freshly roasted and ground coffee) certainly produces a better tasting coffee than the pod coffee. However, if you're looking for an semi-automatic machine to make Latte's you will be disappointed with the EM 5000. On the lowest froth setting the milk is still way too frothy and you will need a large mug to prevent milk overflowing on to the machine. I'm no latte connoisseur but I think 30-40mm of froth in a standard 250ml coffee cup is a cappuccino. The extra $100 we paid for a machine that cannot do what we specifically bo...Read more
ught the machine for is quite frustrating. Makes great espresso's and cappuccino's though! If you prefer to drink latte coffee there are much cheaper espresso machine alternatives out there that will do the job just as well, you will just need to find an alternative milk warmer (as we have had to do).1 comment

not too bad!
Coffee is fine, much nicer than the old machine, only problem is that it is not hot enough for me! Easy to use and easy to clean, but I think I have found a way around the "not hot enough". I heat the milk in the microwave for 1 to 1.5 minutes first. Would have been 5 stars if the milk were hotter

Bottler of a Coffee Machine
The Sunbeam EM5000 is semi-automatic. So easy to use and clean. Nice big water tank and basically just flick a switch to flush out the milk pipe and that's your cleanup done. Love that you can choose how much froth you want and it will handle a huge mug.

$40 both times to ship it in for fixing. Sunbeam themselves told me that the seals often go on them so postage of a faulty item should not cost me if they accept the warranty claim!!! Questions & Answers
Danicaasked
We have recently purchased the coffee machine, however it froths the milk too much, to the point where half the mug is just froth. We have it on the lowest froth setting but it doesn’t seem to change anything. Is there something we can do to minimise the froth a little more so that there’s more milk?

Just wondering with this machine I understand it has an extendable bit to take larger cups and mugs, does this extendable bit only go in one direction ? for instance I have a mug that's fairly wide so I would need this bit to extend not just forward but sideways as well, is that possible with this machine ?

As I ordered my coffee already ground, can this be used in this machine? or does it have to have beans?
1 answer
You can use beans but you have to grind them first and put them in to be tamped down just like in the cafes, if you look closely enough you can see the black handle of the bit that holds the ground coffee.

3 months in and there is a continuous leakage/drip from the percolator area when the machine is turned on. Really disappointing.
