Worst Toaster I have ever bought, sick of toasters breaking over the years, i thought that by paying almost $200 I would have a quality product.
Instead this was the most expensive and worst toaster I have ever purchased. Uneven, slow, only half of it worked and then stopped working altogether. Will not be replacing it with another Sunbeam toaster.
There is a 5 year warranty on the element but I cant find my receipt as Ive moved house and even though I had all the serial numbers in front of me I spoke to two people at Sunbeam and without th...
Read moree receipt it may as well be in the in. The service closeby according to them is 55 kms away, not worth the trip if I have to pay to fix it. The large slots and crumb tray Slow, uneven, not good value for money.Thank you for resolving this matter. With Poppys help from Sunbeam we were able to establish that the toaster was our of warranty and gave me a discount towards another one. Happy with that!
2 months old and broken, so disappointed. One lever is stuffted so we can't lift out the toast. Never again! We were after a hardy trsuworthy appliance, all want is to be able to toast bread, I mean how difficult is it in 2014 to design a product so basic?
the promise of quality
the reality. Lever broken after 2 months purchased.

I bought the 4 slice toaster thinking that paying an arm & a leg would get me something that would do a great job & last for years.
I don't consider 5 years of use good value.
The slow toasting in our busy household drove us crazy, but we gritted our teeth, knowing by reading product review there were lots of complaints about this & that it wasn't a fault.
Now the toast pops up, but the element stays on, burning the bottom half of the toast.
We almost have had a fire twice- despite being in the kitchen at the time.
It's too dangerous. It's going in the bin
Too slow to toast. Now it won't turn off.
Hi Livinlife55, You can certainly take the toaster into your nearest Repair Centre for them to check this issue. At times a small sultana or some bread crumbs can be stuck which will cause the element to remain on.
I owned several toasters over the years and this one is the best of the lot. It feels well built and has sturdy buttons and levers. I love that this toaster has crumpet buttons to toast from just one side of the slot. Not many of the other brands of 4 slice toasters had this. The toast is very consistent with how brown it toasts the bread. We previously owned a cheaper toaster and it would toast darker if it was already warm. The cord of mine was damaged by my daughter and Sunbeam replaced it promptly. Love their customer service for all my Sunbeam products.
Modern look, separate controls for both sides, crumpet button, perfect customer service.
pricey - this is to be expected for a quality product.

Looks great, works well and produces nice crunchy fairly even toast. The crumpet setting works well, so far so good. Can make 4 pieces of toast with different settings for left and right sides. Crumb tray very easy to remove. It seems fairly well built, maybe not quite commercial quality but definately better than most other toasters out there.
Looks, relatively even toasting, crumpet setting, separate controls for left and right, easy to remove crumb tray.
Pricey
Hi Shane, Thank you so much for your feedback.
No problems to date, still very happy with the purchase. The adage of the price being forgotten long after the quality is remembered so far rings true.
We just purchased a new Sunbeam TA9400 toaster expecting commercial grade quality and endurance.
Unfortunately, the toaster did not work from the outset.
Only one element is working, but its heating control is stuck on maximum and it simply burns bread to a cinder. The lever mechanism on the left side does not work at all.
Considering the price of this item and the fact that it was purchased new (as a gift), we are extremely disappointed in this outcome.
Unless the item is immediately replaced (it was brand new), we will not be b...

This toaster is great. It actually creates nice crispy toast without burning it, and without drying it out too much. We make our own sourdough bread and toast it, so I haven't tried it on normal shop bread, but I do think it's the best toaster I've ever owned. The long warranty was a bonus.
Toasts nicely and evenly. Nice pop-up mechanism. High lift to get small bits of toast out easily. Long warranty.

Looking at toasters for a while now, Have had two cheaper brands in the past 4 weeks with no luck so decided to spalsh out and get what I thought we be a quality item, our previous Sunbeam was 18 years old when it gave up. I bought the first one home on Tuesday, and it burns one side of the toast and leaves the other side white, if you press the crumpet button it works better and does not have such a drastic differnce between sides, but this opposite to how its meant to work. Read moree and hey...same thing. it will be going back tomorrow and we will have to consider another brand. Expensive, It cant even toast a simple piece of toast, did not work from day one, and neither did its replacementFIRE! The toaster failed to pop up ( it was on low setting) the toast/toaster caught fire. The toaster was very expensive so I assumed it must be a quality item. It did work o.k. for a while until the pop up mechanism failed. The toast was totally cremated and just a small glowing black cinder remained. The house was full of smoke. Be very careful if you own one of these toasters and ensure it is away from anything flammable I.e. curtains, paper towel etc. I will not buy Sunbeam again as I have had issues with some of their other produc...

Had a Sunbeam Cafe series coffee maker and Sunbeamcoffee grinder so decided to buy TA9400 4 slice toaster to go with them. Would have to have been the slowest toaster and most expensive I ever owned. To top it off in just over 12 months of light use the elements burnt out. I could not find my sales docket from Myer where I purchased it and they rightly did not want to know about it without that docket. Read morech. So off I went to Harvey Norman and bought for less than a third of the price of the Sunbeam a Russell Hobbs 4 slice toaster with double the length of warranty and fast nice quality toast every time, has not missed a beat. I still have three photos on my computer of the Sunbeam without a mark on it when I placed it in the garbage bin. Here is the punchline to this tale. When my wife and I were coming out the front of Harvey Norman's store with our new toaster we bumped into a young man going into the store. I had to smile for he was carrying in his hands a TA9400 toaster. I just had to ask him what was the problem with it. He said the elements were burnt out. It was a week old. I told him the problems I had with my one. He was shocked and said he would be asking for another make or his money back. I used to live a few streets from the Sunbeam factory in Sydney in the 1970's when they were still making quality appliances. What they are now building overseas is overpriced badly built and designed [censored word removed]. I will never ever buy another sunbeam product or reccommend them either. Expensive, bad service and an unreliable product.- 41 reviews

Had my 2 slice Cafe Series for over 4 years now. It makes beautiful, evenly coloured toast every time but it is soooooo sloooooow. Also found it's not much good on high sugar breads (like raisin toast), the thermostate doesn't go down far enough to cook without burning. Forget making toast for 2 people, the first person's will be stone cold before the second's finished. The toaster looks great and is a breeze to clean and has proven to be very reliable.
Beautifully cooked toast. Reliable
Unbelievably slow.
Update. My toaster is now coming up to 12 years old. Still slow but still the most even coloured toast I've ever seen. Amazing life from a small appliance.
Left lever is very stiff to push to the point or ceasing up, brought this product as I expected it to last. I feel very let down. Will never buy another sunbeam product. Poor product not built to last or be repaired, another throwaway product, waste or materials. Wish I'd read reviews prior to purchase.
Looks, materials
Poor I thermal components and build quality

Takes a long time to cook toast but that didnt bother me too much however the bottom tray after 2 months wouldnt sit flush back into its place, after 2 years the hold down button on right won't stay down. I just keep putting up with it. There are 5 of us living here so now that we are down to 2 slices at one time its annoying. I paid at the time what I thought was a reasonably lot, but not the cheapest nor the most expensive.
Normally I keep all receipts so I could have taken this back since I have just read that it has a five year warranty, searched high and low and no reciept! Wont be buying another. Bought the sunbeam as in my mind it was Australian and made well. What a total suck in.
The colour "red" the thick toast you can put in.

Leaking can occur if a kettle is not descaled.

i bought mine around 5 years ago and I'm still happy, I like the tray underneath that can be moved out and discard all the crumbs that fall on the base. There are 4 large openings so even crumpets or larger slices of bread can be toasted. The toast do I suppose take a tad longer than other toasters, but I really haven't noticed. Best toaster I have owned.
Stylish looks.

I purchased this toaster approximately 4-5 years ago. It is a little slow at toasting like the other reviews listed here have mentioned, but overall I am very happy with the product. We are a family of six and this toaster has serviced us very well.
As we now need a new toaster I have decide to replace the elements in our sunbeam toaster. I came to this decision because I could not find a toaster (after researching on productview) that could convince me it would be better than what I already have, for the money I wanted to spend.

Read moreportant feature of this toaster also, is that it has individual controls for each two slots. Very important when you are toasting raisin toast and normal bread at the same time as the settings are different for toasting these two types of bread. Overall very happy with this toaster and would recommend it. Two separate settings for each pair of slots other 4 slice toasters don't have this feature. Yes it is a little slow, also takes up a bit of bench space.I bought mine on ebay, then when I used it, assumed it was faulty because of the slow toasting time, any wonder it has a warranty on the elements as they dont get hot enough to burn out, very poor design,am going back to my $12.00 one from the supermarket, disappointing product, did sunbeam ever test it before it went on sale?

This good looking large toaster may as some say operate quite slowly but it toasts very well. The 4 slots are extra wide and their number should make up a bit if this indeed a bit slower than the average toaster. I do not think this an average toaster at all. It produces evenly toasted breads and crumpets, the degree of penetration of toasting is ideal, it is easily cleaned, looks good and has replaceable elements.
It did cost me a good bit but that is so long ago I have forgotten it. Could it be 6 or 7 years?
One of the selling points ...
Read morewas the replaceability of elements. After having multiple toasters go in the bin after short lives due to element problems this appealed. We have not had to replace any element or any thing or do anything with this machine in all this time apart from switch it on and give it an occasional clean. Well done. (This comes after my canning Sunbeams Iron in another review - they don't get everything wrong.) Good looks, easily cleaned s/s, long lasting, stepped toast lifting, wide toast slots, replaceable elements- 2 reviews

We purchased several Sunbeam Cafe Series appliances and have been very disappointed. Our 4 slice toaster, priced well above the average toaster price failed just months out of warranty. We brought the toaster to the authorized retail centre in Sydney, only to be told that the Cafe Series is "garbage", which looks good but is made in China. The only item actually covered under warranty is the heating element.
Stylish, replaceable elements
Slow to toast, not reliable
The toaster has a 5 year warranty and did not come out that long ago, so I am confused when did you buy it ?
I was given this toaster as a gift, so felt I couldn't return it. It is so slow...definately not worth the money. My teenagers are constantly complaining about it, but because of what it cost, I have put up with it. Next time I will be buying a cheap toaster knowing it will do the job better !
Looks good.

Pros: Best looking toaster I have owned - but thats it........
Cons: The price & looks make you think this must be a great toaster, but it is far from it. I have never had a toaster that cooks as slow as this one - quicker to poach eggs than cook the toast. If it hadn't cost so much I would have thrown it out long ago. Wished I had read the reviews prior to purchasing.

I bought the toaster yesterday from Harvey Norman for $120. It is the worst toaster I have had. It takes forever to cook a crumpet, and when it does, it is uneven. Whilst the toast may be evenly cooked, it still takes way too long. I am now going out again today to see if I can find a half decent toaster, if there is one.
The looks
Too long to cook, uneven cooking.

I love the way this toaster looks and like many here was sick of getting a new cheap toaster every couple of years. The price of these units at normal retail of $139 I think is excessive fortunately Harvey was having a sale which made it marginally more comfortable at $120. I justified by saying well its high end almost commercial quality.

Read moret think a 1 year warranty is acceptable for a name brand product these days especially on a high end model. 18 months in and the switch that holds the leaver down has worn out so the toast will not stay down. Sunbeam customer service can only be described as all care a no responsibility. The woman was nice enough, agreed it wasn't good enough however was not willing to do anything for me other than to refer me to a service agent. His response was it will take 2 weeks cost about $50 IF they can get the part which is 50/50. It's toasting ability was OK but not very even I found myself having to rotate crumpets and when you cook toast you have to turn the darkness down after each piece because as it gets hotter it cooks the toast more.We have a Sunbeam Cafe series toaster model TA9200 (two toast type). The unit was purchased in 2005 and we have been very happy with it. At the end of March this year (2012) it tripped the safety switch in our meter box. One of the reasons that we bought the unit is because it was advertised as having replaceable elements. I am an electrician and so know that a device that trips a safety switch typically has a faulty element. Pleased with my decision to buy a unit with replaceable elements, I looked on Sunbeam's website and again was pleased to...
Read more find an authorised service agent close by. I sent them an email and was told that I should bring it in for assessment and quote. So far so good. That's the end of the good news story. I took it in to the agent who took almost 2 months to come up with a quote which came in at $91.00 inc GST. A new toaster is around $150.00. So much for the advantage of replaceable elements. Well one could argue that we got a good life out of the toaster approx 7 years and it was a pretty good toaster. Will I get it repaired? Just trying to decide but a new one for just a few bucks more is looking enticing. Toasts well, evenly and accommodates thick bread Slow and expensive 'Authorised service agent'- 2 reviews
Well I figure our TA9400 must've done around 30,000 peices of toast over the last 9-10 years. We never had a problem with it until this morning when it simply gave up.
Now that it has given up, we have replaced it with the same model. We noted with interest the number of other toaster with plastic handles, tacky looks and motorised bread lowering mechanisms. All tacky junk imo.
It maketh Good toast when I am too tired to think.
It didn't last forever, and it would be good if I could replace the elements myself - it would be much less wasteful than just buying another.
Same thing for me. Listed 8,5 years. Did lots of good toast. Today replaced it with the same as all the other toasters seemed flimsy and trashy. That said, after opening the box, it says, replaceable elements! Now how the heck do we do that?

I have bagged out some other Sunbeam items I own and the lack of customer service from Sunbeam, but have to congratulate them on this toaster. It's slow to cook the toast, but that just means it comes out perfect. The crumpets are evenly done - never will you have soggy crumpets again.
Perfect toasting of bread and crumpets
I had the 9200 and it is by far the worst toaster I have ever had, bar none. Did not even cook the toast properly, let alone the crumpets, and had to wait forever and a day.
I do not work for Sunbeam, I am just a long time buyer of Sunbeam products. I havent been happy with all of them but am very happy with the toaster!
