Not worth buying.
Original purchase Dec'14 - Harvey Norman replaced July'15 after digital display mostly not working - now replacement kettle digital display rarely working & kettle has also started making long 'beeping' sound - rang Sunbeam & was told by the very helpful Katherine that Warranty period is 12 mths & basically end of story. Previous & less expensive kettles have lasted much longer than either of these.

biggest pile of rubbish
this is our 3rd unit the previous kettles all leaked at thelevel indicator within 6 months of use, now after 4 months the same is happening and sunbeam wont replace this unit as the warranty period is finished, for the cost of these units they are a disgrace and previous old Linda cheapy kettle lasted 20 years. the kettle feals like it is well made but dont be fooled it is very poor quality.

Very poor design/ materials in the lid/top handle fixing.
I bought my kettle in July 2014 and had good service for 2 years. A few months ago, the lid release started to become unreliable. A few weeks ago, ( early Dec 2016) the handle mounting appeared to be loosening. It was not apparently easy to tighten up so we lived with that up to Xmas. Yesterday, the problem fully appeared: the black plastic components associared with the lid hinge and top handle fixing crumbled into the inside of the kettle. It seems clear to me that the fixtures are very poorly designed (weak screw fixture) and the unit was ma...Read more
nufactured materials ( not suitable for 100c steam and the stress of lifting the heavy kettle plus water. I believe this service life is inadequate for domestic use only and will seek repair or replacement. I note many similar reviews.

Waste of money
I brought the cafe series kettle because it sterilises water to the perfect temperature for baby formula however we have replaced the kettle once already because it wasn't boiling properly and now the entire plate has come out with the new replacement after 12 months you expect quality at this price not something that falls apart so easily

Not worth the money
Purchased this kettle just over 12 months ago.
At the time we purchased an extra warranty.
In total we have had it replaced 3 times plus the original.
Electronic issues plague this item from not turning off, then saying that kettle is dry when full, also makes a beeping sound when heating, and not heating to set temperature.
I will keep getting this item replaced until my 3 year warranty runs out.
Then it's in the bin.
My latest replacement is again causing grief with the lid will not opening properly and the on push button feels funny when operated.
Think twice before buying this item, something else may suit better.

Written labels on kettle coming off!
We bought our kettle in Jan 2016 and so far have had two replacements under warranty, all due to the fact that the writing on the kettle, which describes what temperature to use, very easily wipe off literally with little effort. It's like when it was printed on it wasn't sealed properly or the ink is of poor quality. Very disappointed because when I ran sunbeam they did not have any record of this even though clearly other customers have also reported this same problem. I hope sunbeam fix this issue or have a replacement kettle that also has a digital display, since this is why I bought the kettle in the first place.

Rubbish
First kettle lasted 7 months then refused to boil. Replacement lasted 5 months with same expiration. Electronics are lovely if you like pretty lights but is useless for boiling water. There seems to be a major issue with the switching mechanism and Sunbeam engineers cant seem to come to grips with the issue or it it just cheap parts?

Good until it leaks
Our was purchased in 2012 - we haven't had electrical problems and it was quiet for a while. Maybe it needed de-scaling as mentioned by Sunbeam.
After 4 years it started leaking just like others. Others had this occur sooner, so it looks like it might be a design issue.

so bad
The kettle was working fine but now it has stopped working all tougher like that.
Incorrect temperature readings, random beeps takes about 25 minutes to heat water to 50 degrees, gives up half way through cycles, sometimes it just won't turn on at all.
I have a lemon, or maybe their all built as cheap as this. It isn't even 2 months old.
Can't believe how down hill this company has gone.

Brilliant Kettle ... BUT
I love the features of this kettle, and it has worked perfectly until now, the boiling and shutting off still works well, but the lid has stopped lifting and like the others I really want my purchase - well over $100 to work for a bit longer. I have cleaned and descaled the kettle but the lid still doesn't work ... I must admit some of the reviews worry me a bit, as much as I love it I don't think I will buy another one.

I now know why it's discontinued ELECTRIC SHOCK
This kettle was purchases just over two years ago from Harvey Norman. The lid hasn't opened properly for 6 months and this morning it gave me an ELECTRIC SHOCK when I pressed the start/cancel button. When spending over $100 for a kettle this kettle has been a serious lemon. So if you want that extra kick start in the morning and the extra challenge of trying to open the lid with your favorite tea spoon, this is the kettle for you. When you purchase Sunbeam your expectation is a good product. Now I will look elsewhere for the safety of my family.

Lid stopped opening then broke off
As above, the lid jammed then broke off completely. The concept was good with the temperature display as I brew some 90C teas.
The kettle lasted about 2.5 years but when pay a higher price you expect good quality and a longer life for such a product.
Disappointed with Sunbeam.

Thank you. I also just realised this was a replacement unit as the first one leaked water from the little observation window. Harvey Norman replaced without issue. sadly this one is now broken too.

Most disappointing sunbeam product I've ever owned
I have had this kettle for just over 2 1/2 years, and it has had many problems with the lid not opening until recently it just stopped opening all together. Just yesterday the lid broke. Prior to this the kettle would stop working at around 48 and 65 degrees and sometimes not want to stop at 100 degrees. I found it hard to find another kettle that looked as good and was as solidly built as this kettle. But I am really disappointed with this product and with Sunbeam for making such a lemon.

Writing smudges and comes off
I am on to my second kettle now and about to take it back. I bought the first one in Nov 2015. Returned it, and replaced it in March. I am thankful that I haven't had it long enough each time for it to leak!! I love the kettle except that all the writing come off. I use NO chemicals, or cloths over the writing parts, just water and paper towel when necessary, but the writing just goes smeary and bleeds off. It is used in the kitchen of a normal household as a kettle normally is. When I rang the second time the lady was quite rude about it, and...Read more
said no one else ever had problems. Well I have twice. I bought it because of the different temperatures you could boil the water too, and you need the writing so people know what all the buttons are for or there is no point to owning the jug. So far there are no other problems but worried now after reading some of the recent reviews. sunbeam was always reliable and I grew up with sunbeam products that lasted for ages. Sunbeam.... Please don't reply with the same reply that you do to everyone else's reply. just fix the problem so when I get a replacement jug the same things don't happen and I don't get any of the above faults as well that other reviewers have.Similar opinion? Hi, we bought this kettle in January and have loved it until last night when it just stopped working. No power to the base, we tried other PowerPoints in our house, still no luck. Will be taking back tomorrow but probably won't buy another after reading all the bad reviews.

Leaking Through Window
I too have this kettle and it leaked through the window.
I bought this kettle on 18-12-2015. On Tuesday 21-6-2016 when I turned it on the morning it leaked everywhere and activated the Electrical Safety Switch shutting down power in my house.
The leak came through the window. I didn't realise this is a common problem until now that I am on this site and reading everyone's review.

Leaking and faulty lid
The first 7 months was fine, very happy with the kettle, then it started to leak through the window. Had it replaced and it did the same thing again. Replaced once more and now there is a problem with the lid. Surely this product deserves to be recalled. For the price you do expect quality and for it to be long lasting. Maybe this I something the accc.gov.au should be involved in as Sunbeam seems to palm it off with no responsibility whatsoever.

Pathetic and dangerous
Do not buy this kettle. After two years the window began leaking. This is incredibly dangerous as the water seeps into the base and can not get out. The customer service representative told me that electrocution can not occur as the safety switch would be tripped. I am glad Sunbeam relies on electrical safety switches to prevent their products from causing electrocution rather than making their kettle water tight.

Bad product
After 3 years our Sunbeam Cafe Kettle started to leak form the side window not good enough SUNBEAM when we pay a premium price one would expect it to last a lot longer. Rang Sunbeam this morning and was told no refund or exchange just that they will give me a 30% discount if I wish to purchase an other one as if. Also the socalled apology from Sunbeam was not an apology at all come on Sunbeam do the right thing by your clients and refund or replace these kettles

Do not buy. Started leaking water after 18 months. Rude customer representative.
- 30th May 2016 -
It has been a great kettle until now.. coincidentally after the 12 months warranty has finished, the kettle starts breaking down? I purchased the Sunbeam Cafe Series Kettle on the 6th December 2014 and it has started to leak water from the bottle of the kettle. Not just a few drips... a large puddle from where the kettle heats up. I called the Customer service line just now 1300 881 861 -after 3 attempts due to the large number of people calling. This is already a red flag.
Save yourself trouble and stay away from this ...Read more
kettle. My old Bellini kettle still works after 4 years!!! And it costs $40! The only reason I purchased this was because I purchased the Sunbeam Cafe Series Blender (which costs $360) and so I wanted to get the kettle to complete the Cafe Series set. Yes vanity. Lesson learnt. After speaking to the customer service representative today, I will definitely not purchase any other Sunbeam products as they were not helpful either.1 comment

Hi Sunbeam Customer Service, my kettle base unit START/CANCEL button works, but at different stages of the heating process, it stops working - sometimes the temperature reading spirals to zero and flies back up again. It seems very confused. The actual kettle heating element etc is fine. The computer is not.

I too have a Sunbeam Kettle - Model KE9151 which needs a knife to ooen the "POP" top. Could you please let me know how to fix this.
1 answer
The same happened to our first kettle and we oersted with it even though our son bought us a new one which remained in its box till ours became unusable due to the lid. The new one only lasted three weeks. Soon after starting to use it the mechanism attaching the handle to the body loosened and it became an electrical danger
All we got out of Sunbeam was” thank you for letting us know - we’ll look into it”. No refund, no replacement on either unit.
Stay clear of these kettles - DANGER WILL ROBINSON
