Perfect - love it
I did read the long review by oKO and agree to almost everything written there but have to say that I do like the indicator as, as night it's easy to check at which sped it is, specially when it isn't that hot and would like it at 3 rather than 4. You don't have to bother to switch the lights on so love that. It really doesn't disturb as anyways it's kept away and it's not like one would keep looking at it. I would recommend this fan besides the fact that it's an excellent fan having owned it for more than 6 months it was very easy to assemble. Thank you Sunbeam

Good product
So far so good. Slight hum from fan but not too annoying. I like the remote control options and the fan is fairly quiet + appears well made. 2 year warranty. Previous fan I bought was far too noisy (avoid "high velocity" fans, fans with metal blades and fans with only 3 speed setting options).

Hum has driven me insane!
I bought this fan 3 days ago, and after reading all the reviews I thought Sunbeam hold a good reputation and would give it a go. The aesthetics look great, stylish and fits well with modern decor.....then its all down hill from there. Biggest fault is the humming of the motor noise. Fan blades when running are extremely quiet, but its the constant loud noise of the motor that has forced me to return to JBHI.. I do not recommend this to anyone has wants a quiet/stress free sleep! Sunbeam should recall the model....

Could be better...but better than most.
First of all, those cheap fans you buy for $40-$60 at your local hardware store like Bunnings, always seem to break. My grandma has gone though about 4 fans in 3 yrs, most fans these days can't even see out a year. The plastic support, where it oscillates breaks with normal use. Probably because of the combined weight of the motor, the enormous amount of heat the cheap chinese motors produce and the non-abs white brittle plastic they use. Sometimes the motor will get too hot and wont work until it cools down or sometimes the motor completel...Read more
y fails. So back to the Sunbeam. I have owned it for about a year and it has performed without a hiccup during the summer months (sometimes operating most of the day). This is one of the better fans out there and this is indicative of its price. It has a fairly compact and well thought-out design (I.e. the blade guards don't obstruct the IR beam or the control planel), the base is sturdy and it has a small but efficient motor. The fan is reasonably quiet at low speeds (3 or less) and I don't get any of that electrical/buzzing noise that others have come across (unless they mean a low humming created by the fan blade). Neither does the fan blade create any annoying buffeting of the air flow. I don't use the setting where the fan switches on and off intermittently, to me it is very annoying and misses you most the time. And like others have said, the fancy blue led lights (which don't seem to serve much purpose except to show fan speed) are far too bright and distracting for the daytime or nightime. I also wish you didn't have to repeatedly cycle one way, from low to high when changing the fan speed. I.e. it would be much better if you could increase or decrease the speed without having to ramp up the speed to get back to the low setting. Overall, I recommend this fan. However while being good; probably better than most chinese fans out there (Yes, this fan is made in China, "to Sunbeam Specifications" - yes, they really did find the need to emphasize that point on the product label stuck to the motor housing), it still isn't perfect. However because it has worked so well thus far, I will probably end up buying this fan again, this time for my grandma. The fans she has purchased recently seem to have a bad habit of falling apart and ending up on the verge for collection. Her fan just broke down, she has seen this one and likes it. I don't know why I just decided to write this review, but I guess it was a consequence/coincidence of stumbling through google to find the best price??? So if you made it this far, thanks for listening. ;-)Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Not so quiet - engine humming very annoying
the humming of the engine I can hear from the room next to me. Either mine is faulty or the fan engine on all of them is quite noisy. No matter what the setting, this I didn't hear in the shop

The hum is a big problem
As others pointed out, the fan engine emits electrical hum.
The actual fan motor is quiet, but the hum is heard regardless of fan setting
Note the hum can actually be quiet at times, but can also get extremely headache-inducing loud !
To be fair, it has decent functions, solid base and looks nice, but it wasn't enough to keep it.
An expensive fan shouldn't have this problem, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone

very good product
One fault, there seems to be no difference in fan speed when changing from the 3rd to the 4th fan speed setting l will be contacting sunbeam about this, otherwise good product quite sturdy and seems to well made, the fan speed lights do not bother me, price was right would recomend.

Above average pedestal fan. Some flaws such as beeping buttons and blue lights
Quality construction and nice shape and colour, the fan looks good - better than previous pedestal fans I've owned. In summary, this is the best fan ive owned despite its flaws.
Oscillating is smooth and quiet. There is no rattling or vibration sound. Finally, a fan that doesnt rattle.
The lowest speed setting is very gentle, which is good because sometimes you need just a slight breeze.
There is a bit of buzzing noise from the motor. A constant electric motor noise, most noticeable at the lowest speed. Some people may not notice the...Read more
buzzing, and in fact its barely worth mentioning and doesnt bother me because its white noise. I wish the motor was better insulated or just designed to be quiet. My old cheap fan had less motor noise. It's not that bad, but I think they could have done better with suppressing the motor noise. I don't understand why manufacturers insist on installing beeping sounds in appliances. It's 2014, we don't need to have every button make a loud beep. We are no longer impressed by extra bright LEDs. It's obvious when the fan is switched on - the blades move and the air rushes out. We don't need lights as confirmation. At the very least have the lights dimmable, and beeps softer. Beeps and lights are not required for essential functionality. Consider the night time bedroom user.Similar opinion? Whisper Quiet
This fan has been perfect. The first fan speed setting is brilliant for sleeping however, the ridiculously bright blue lights are annoying. I got creative and put an old wrist strap around the panel - remote control works fine through the fabric and it's thick enough to cut out the lights.
Love the timer function - no more waking in the night to turn off the fan. Just set running time and it turns off.
For living room - the higher speeds and the crazy oscillation is great at moving the air around. This fan doesn't just oscillate from side ...Read more

Needs to be recalled
Really wished Doug5 had put his review up earlier.
Experiencing the same problem after a week of use it beguines buzzing intermittently
But worse still I’m on my second one and its now making a strong electrical smell!
Sunbeam might have to issue a recall on this as I don’t believe it’s safe.
When I asked Sunbeam customer service what should I do (as this will be my 3rd one) they said that’s between "you and who you bought it off"!

Mostly Good with a few little niggles
The fan is whisper quiet on the first two settings which is great for sleeping, but what were Sunbeam thinking using such bright blue LEDs. In a dark room I am blinded even with my eyes closed. In fact I think I could throw out my UV tanning bed and just use the fan on high (six bright LEDs). I tried sticking dark tape over them, but then the remote stopped working. With a bit of trial and error I managed to cover the LEDs and still have a working remote control. It would be nice for the remote control sensor position on the fan to be marked, ...Read more
so that I could avoid it with my tape. Some of the features of this fan are a bit lame. The wind mode in "soft" or "sleep" is just plain annoying with the continual speed changes and the blinking LEDS. Did I mention how bright they are? I'd prefer Sunbeam change the "sleep" mode to a constant fan speed and turn off the lights altogether. The oscillation mode - left-right or up-down or figure-eight is good. Except that sometimes there is a bit of extra noise coming from the oscillation motor. But overall, I like the fan. On the lowest setting, without oscillation I can hardly hear it, and it puts out a gentle breeze which is perfect for sleeping. Like an overhead fan without a fixed installation. And it only uses 12w of power. If Sunbeam could get over their LED fixation the power usage may be halved! quiet some features add to the price, but are just silly gimmicks2 comments

Great in the shop – rubbish in reality
Whisper quite for first week then every night after an hour of operation the motor starts buzzing intermittingly.
Thought it was a one off problem but I’m on my third one and it does the same thing.
The buzzing is so loud and very annoying as it starts just after you fall asleep.
God I miss Japanese made products! I think Chinese manufacturing is just happy it looks like a fan!
How hard can it be to make a simple fan to work?
This product is absolute [inappropriate language removed]!!!

Great quiet fan
I've been trying to research fans lately with little success. For such a warm climate (i come from a much cooler one!), choice is surprisingly poor and reviews are few sparse. I had been looking at this Sunbeam as well as the Vornado in David Jones over xmas, but the reports of vornados being a bit louder didn't appeal to me much. I wanted a fan that couldn't be heard (much) in the bedroom. The fan seemed quiet in the shop, and the previous review helped convince me.
The fan is very sturdy, and well made. It comes with a heavy round base th...Read more
at keeps it steady on the floor. This is great compared to many of the cheap pedestals I've used that can get warped or broken over time. There are 6 power levels, 3 oscillation modes, a wind simulation mode, and a timer function. There's even a remote control! For a fan, that would seem overly complicated, but in fact, the modes are useful and not difficult to use. The control panel on the fan is very clear and straightforward. On the lowest power setting, the fan can barely be heard at all. The only sound at this level is a soft hum from the motor itself, and the very gentle air can still be felt up to 8 feet away. I personally attribute this to the 5 blades, rather than the normal 3, being able to push more air at lower and quieter speeds. On the negative side, the fan is a bit pricey at over $100, but i do believe you (often) get what you pay for. Sunbeam have a 2 year replacement guarantee on the fan. The blue LED level indicator is VERY bright in a dark room. Sunbeam clearly didn't test the fan in an environment that most people would use it in! I had some black cloth tape that I got in Bunnings, stuck it over the blue LEDs and it's perfect for the bedroom. But that's a pretty poor solution since you'd have to take it off in the daytime. I need to find something that will just dull the blue LEDs. Minus one star for making me think about that Sunbeam! Apart from that I can't really fault it. EDIT (20.02.2016): I'm surprised i can edit this post! I thougt it would be good to update after having this fan for 3 years now. I have read a lot of the follow on reviews people have left after my, and in some cases, it almost seems like they bought a different fan! No doubt there have been manufacturing changes, and maybe some people just got a dud. My fan has been operating flawlessly in the time i've had it. Even though it only comes out during late spring, summer, and early autumn, i have not had any problems with it. It's easy to clean off the dust after storage, but i found covering it with a bin-bag for the winter will stop any dust collecting in the first place. It still turns on without failure, and plugs away quietly during the night. The LED lights are still as bright as ever, and covered with cloth tape. The beeping noises on each button press gets old pretty fast - it is loud, but it doesn't bother me too much. It can be a nuisance to cycle through the speeds to get back to a low number, but i think adding any more buttons would have made the whole thin more complicated than it needed to be. I have never heard more than a gentle hum from the fan and motor on the low setting, and it makes me wonder if people are buying this expecting it to be dead silent! It's a fan, peeps - there are moving parts! Of course you'll be able to hear it in the dead of night, but it's still the quietest (pedestal) fan i've ever had. I still value it as Good, not OK and not Excellent, so that's 4 stars. Hope this helps someone! Even more, i hope sunbeam are taking notes, and reaching out to owners before designing their next version! :)1 comment

Best pedestal fan
I can't score this fan high enough.. Whisper quiet on first 2 settings, yet ample for bedroom, and then gets louder on the next 4 settings, as more wind is generated.. Figure 8 Oscillation mode is excellent. Finally a fan I can fall asleep to again.. I am not a fan of noisy fans!!!!
Quiet!!!! Oscillation mode!!!!!
Too many bright LEDs. I put tape over the first blue ones for sleeping.

Hello Ron W,
If you feel like there is a fault in the motor, please do return it to your retailer for a replacement.
We got this as a Christmas present Dec 2018. They gave us the instruction booklet but no receipt. By the way because we were so pleased with this make and model we bought a 2nd one which still operates perfectly.
