RE -Thermostat on this model.

published

We as reviewers of this product fully understand what a thermostat does. In the case of this model and batch
at the time of buying and reviewing the thermostat failed. The toast/grill function would not heat at all in all three units.
IT seems to me DUUUUR cannot understand the basic principals of TOAST/Grill Function or maybe DUUUR has no need use or know how.

Very happy.

The oven is easy to use and easy to clean with a removable crumb tray at the bottom. Good for quick snacks or more complicated dishes. You can either use a timer or switch on and turn off when ready. Had bought a different brand which malfunctioned and couldn't be replaced so traded up for this and it works better. It's light enough to pick up and store away in a cupboard when not in use. Even thinking of getting one for my son.

Great for students!

published

Love it. Perfect. Very handy. Does everything you need it to for 1-2 people. I am a student where there are no ovens and this is what I use for all my baking needs. Does everything from roast potatoes to brownies. Takes less time to heat up than a regular oven as well!

Great Product

published

What a great little oven, I bought this about 3 months ago to use less power than regular oven for things like meat pies, hash browns, frozen fish bits etc, and it works perfectly, The thermostat light blinks on and off, for all those negative reviews, that's what a thermostat does,
Another great product from a great company, .

Don't waste your money

published

I purchased one of these in December 2014 form Good Guys (no problems with them at all), got it home and lower element wouldn't work, took it back for replacement, used replacement for 6 months then the time stopped during count down. I have usually had a good run with other Sunbeam products but not this one. Not a very good product.

SUNBEAM MINI BAKE AND GRILL - NEVER BUY ONE AGAIN

published

Have had two of these over the years, each lasting for 3 to 4 years before needing replacement.
Bought new one on Saturday, get home and find its faulty, thermostat light blinking on and off during oven
heating with only top elements coming on and not heating to set temperature. Took it back on Tuesday for a replacement, go to use it and exactly the same fault in the replacement. Would assume that the thermostat
has not been connected to the temperature control..........will be getting our money back on this unit and not
replacing it.

Extremely dangerous

published

I just bought this oven and tried to make a toasted sandwich and it caught fire only after about a minute. Thank God I was in the kitchen when it happened and hadn't walked away from it. I switched everything off and carried it outside, fire and all. I think it's best place is in the bin.

Very disappointed.

published

I have owned 2 of these mini ovens in the last 10 years and they performed very well. This new one doesn't heat properly and the thermostat regulates too soon before the desired temperature is reached. On full heat (Toast - 240°) the thermostat keeps switching on/off even with the door opened fully, making it useless for just about anything including toast. Baking is impossible and the only use I can find is warming/re-heating. I'm sure there must be a bad batch of these units currently. Either that or the quality has reduced to a low level.

Good for heating. Terrible for toasting

published

I have had this for 2 years now. It is still going strong. I mainly use it for toast which is terrible. It always burns. You have to stand there and watch it. The minute you step away, it turns to charcoal. For reheating it is fast and quicker than using the normal oven. Of course you had to use it a few degrees lower than the normal oven as it is much smaller in size. The reheating aspect, I have no gripes. I had an older sunbeam version before this one. My toast was always fine but this one is awful. I just put up with it until the unit dies. When it does, maybe I'll consider another brand.
Quick for reheating food
The toaster function - quickly burns your bread

Toxic fumes when handle melted

published

I was in the middle of reheating a lasagna when I noticed the handle had come loose. I then realised it had come loose because it had melted from the heat. It caused extreme fumes around my kitchen, dining and living area, and I became quite dizzy. This product is dangerous. Handles should not melt and the quality level is unacceptably poor not to mention the safety standards. I will be requesting a full refund on replacement value - unacceptable!
It worked for the limited amount of time I used it but burned food more often than not
Unsafe item that melted handles, burned food, cooked unevenly, badly made. Too many to mention, really.

I paid 3 times the above price for this oven....twice...first one the front door fell off, second one, the door handle melted and fell off. So much for sunbeam quality, better off finding 'old' sumbeam appliances.

Replacement tray?

published

I agree that the supplied tray stains very quickly. I tried to find a replacement unsuccessfully but have found a griller rack which fits it perfectly (none was supplied). I have had no trouble inserting the wire trays and the dial labels are still perfect after 8 months. Can anyone suggest where I can purchase a new tray of superior quality?
Price for what I consider a disposable item. I only keep these mini ovens for a few years.
Wish the tray was of better metal.

Bad! Bad! Bad!

published

I have had this product, or similar, from Sunbeam for over 30 yrs. I recently bought this new black model and am appalled at the shoddy workmanship. The reason toast is flaring into fire is because, unlike the old system that had protective flat metal strips over the bottom 2 elements, these ones are exposed. So if toast slips through the rack, it lands on a bare element. The door no longer sits sprung slightly ajar when cooking; it closes fully and cannot vent. Hence, the smoke out the door and sides. Just dreadfully dangerous. Yep, should be recalled immediately before it causes a house fire.
Quicker grilling than older models

A great little second oven

published

I bought this as a 'support' oven to use when my my convection microwave was busy. It has been one of the most useful kitchen items I have bought for a long time.
Cooks beautifully. It has a good loud bell to notify when it has finished cooking (not another beeper!). It is light if I want to move it around.
Hard to see where the trays slide in.

Mine had an electrical fault - fire hazard

published

I had been using the oven for about two years without any problems but today when I was reheating some roast chicken, there was a loud buzzing and a brief flash of fire inside and the circuit breaker tripped and turned off the power. When I looked inside, the top heating elements had bent upwards. I threw it out. I'm not buying this model again. It's a fire hazard.
Cheap, small size.
Potential fire hazard.

Seriously horrible Sunbeam product

published

We purchased this for reheating food as an alternative to a microwave oven. After about two weeks of use the black paint started chipping off around the door. We treat our things with care and were disappointed that the oven started to appear shabby within such a short time of use.

After about two months the oven stopped cooking evenly and started BURNING everything within a minute of food being put inside and turned on. We gave it another couple of months but by then we were fed up with it, and we hadn't kept the receipt so it got dumped in the trash. Total waste of money.
Small on kitchen bench top, space saver
Everything, badly made, burned food, just awful.

No complaints here!

I bought this mini oven as our main oven is huge & takes quite a while to preheat.

The Sunbeam mini oven is perfect for those times when I just want to cook one or two pies or grill a few nuggets or fish fingers for my daughter.

Ive also used it to roast side dishes such as scalloped potatoes, it works perfectly!

I haven't used the toast function but everything else is great, I'm really glad i bought it.

I think that for $60 it is really good value, it does the job well.
Inexpensive, compact size, oven & grill function work perfectly.
The supplied oven tray does warp when hot but this doesn't really affect the performance of the oven.

Replacement OK.
Replacement OK.

I purchasrd a Sunbeam Pizza, Bake and grill from the Good Guys. The first time I switched it on for the preheating procedure it blew up. Was like a fireworks display. They replaced it immediately for me. Good PR.

Not recommended if needed for toasting.
It falls between the size of no longer available small benchtop heating appliances and the larger more versatile products. The latter would be a better purchase even if they also are unsuited to toasting.
Adequate size for benchtop cooking.
Agree with other reviewers that it cannot safely be used for toasting.
Suggest manufacturers add a control as toasters use to control precisely the degree of toasting. I have had to install an electronic timer into the electrical circuit.

Cannot recommend. This product may need to be recalled in the future. I may have gotten a lemon, but my wife has recently bought a kettle from sunbeam which leaks and is a potential electric hazard.
Small size
This product is a potential fire hazard. The first time my wife burned toast in it, I laughed. When she was making toast and it caught fire, I said "learn how to make toast". When it happened again, I began to question the integrity of the product. This morning the handle melted and I ran into the kitchen just in time to see the small fire burning in my toaster oven. The timer on this oven is very finicky. You cannot leave the room with it on.

overall, i think sunbeam has to look into the heat control and temperature settings..it is a potential fire hazard and i find it unsafe to use.
it is compact in size but spacious inside
reasonable price
the temperature control is faulty...most things i put into this mini over come out burnt.
it went up in flames once while i was making toast..and this was when i was using the toast setting.

If you do not have the option to install a stove this is the ideal oven for you.I have placed mine on a microwave wall bracket as I have very limited bench space. It heats up quickly, is easy to clean, easy to monitor the cooking process through the large clear glass door. Would be easy to take with you camping or caravaning - anywhere you have a power outlet.
compact, fits a size 18 - 20 chicken in rotiserie with fantastic results, quick to heat up, easy to clean, great for all types of open grill. Light weight easy to move around. Easy to keep clean.
