Sunbeam used to be a reliable brand

published

I purchased this mixer based on previous great service from a Sunbeam Mixmaster I had many years ago. I have used it, very successfully about 4 times. Today I was making a cake and stopped it to scrape the sides and when I turned it on again....nothing! I tried everything, removing then reinserting beaters, remove and replace the bowl, even tried the second bowl and it simply would not work.
I will be returning it to the store tomorrow for a refund. Very dissapointing when such a well known, previously reliable brand is now producing inferior products. The inconvienience of having to return an item then shop for a replacement is enough to prevent me trusting that brand again.

I dont recomend this product.

Purchased in June 2021 at Bing Lee Physical store for $170.00.

Didn’t last long

published

Bought for my wife 2 years ago mx8500 now motor runs but beaters don’t work. I am like so many others. Thought Sunbeam was STILL a good product so I would buy another one. Should have looked at the product reviews. Talk about cheap and nasty. How disappointing. As other people have said. Just a heap of junk. Shame on you Sunbeam you have trashed your good name with rubbish to make a few extra dollars. Dumb Dumb Dumb

Purchased in March 2021.

worst sunbeam mixmaster ever

published

After owning a Sunbeam for over 30 years we decided it was time to upgrade, We purchased the silver model almost 2 years ago. We only used the mixer occassionally, to cream butter & sugar or whip cream, maybe 2 times a month. A few weeks ago I contacted Sunbeam as the mixer could only be used on low speed, if we turned it up the beaters would jam. I was advised to take it to our local sunbeam repair agent which i did. I collected the machine today to be told it was no good any more as the gear box had seized !!! I am so angry that after minimal use over a 2 year period it now has to be thrown out. NOT GOOD ENOUGH. Last time I will ever buy Sunbeam

Purchased in November 2021 at Begents Electrical Launceston 7250 for $350.00.

Bowl doesn't spin

published

Highly disappointed with this mixer. My husband purchased it for me for Christmas 2017 from Myer, I went to use it today (2/1/18) for the first time to discover the bowl did not spin with the large or small bowl attached. We will be returning this appliance and will purchase another brand.

Sunbeam florence broadhurst design is a disgrace

published

Florence broadhurst mixer really poor hardly mixes. The bowl doesn't lock into place properly very bad machine waste if money.
The toaster is fine but the mixer complete let down.
Pity because sunbeam was a trusted brand for me, I'll never buy sunbeam again.
The mixer has made me not bother using it and I cool alot.
I wouldn't waste time, effort or money on sunbeam mixers again.
I could've got a better machine from target it chosen the Kenwood.

Attaching and rotating bowl is a nightmare

published

I recieved this as a gift. I had the issue of bowl not attaching or detaching properly. At about 1 month old the base fell apart it was replaced whole new machine but i still have the same problem. Its useless! I also have issues putting beaters in and quite often the beaters bump together to the point where i have small metal peices from beaters in my mix. Would not reccomment at all, should really return it. Dont want to offend my mother in law with sending it back as i wouldnt replace with the same mixer again.

Problem detaching bowl

published

I brought this mix master, and after one use I could not detach the bowl from the base. One day I decided to unscrew the bottom and found that a small spring was not affixed where it should have been, after reattaching the spring I could finally remove the bowl. It works just fine now.

Terrible product with possible intention by company to fail for replacement?

published

The product has a terrible life span and when trying to see where things have gone wrong internally discovered that it was intentionally built so that maintenance and part replacement is nearly impossible!

Ours is stuck on high speed and I believe it is something to do with gears yet not being able to effectively access the whole internal area Sunbeam is forcing customers to replace?

Only other option is paying $100 for someone to tell me they can't fix it either.

Very put off Sunbeam products after this experience.

Better than a hand mixer

published

This was given to me second hand and I'm not much of a baker so haven't used it a whole lot, and probably haven't given it a hard enough time like others here ... but it works fine for the pavs I make on occasion and has certainly lasted longer than a year.

I think it's fine for what it does. Nothing fancy and better than a hand mixer for those long mixes, like a pav. I like that it's not heavy like the kitchenaid and I can easily lift it in and out of the cupboard with the handle.

Don't waste your money!

published

We received a Mixmaster as part of our Engagement Party Gift Registry. We had requested the mixmaster due to their stellar reputation. Less than 6 months later, only using it 3 times, the bowl seized on the mixer, we couldn't get it on or off or move it at all, so we took it back to Myer and received a replacement, which was great! Just over another 6 months later, again with minimal domestic use, the motor has just blown up... that's 2 units in 12 months... I just want my money back so that I am able to buy a mixer that doesn't have a catastrophic failure every 6 months!

Very disappointing, I won't be buying another Sunbeam product again, as there appears to be major faults with their design, durability and quality assurance!

Sunbeam failed after 2 years light use

published

When my Sunbeam mixmaster of 35 years finally died 2 years ago, I thought a new Sunbeam would be just the thing. Wrong. Purchased 4/2014, the rheostat speed is either off or flat out. Very disappointed after all these years and reviews seem to back this up for the brand.

Great mixmaster

published

I love my machine, I was looking for a mixmaster that would work well and not cost the earth, within 6 months it had paid for itself, I love it.

I bought the Florence Broadhurst version from David Jones, which added a nice style aspect to the mixer too.

Would definitely recommend to any novice chefs out there.

Motor blew in first few months of use

published

I was so excited to receive this mixer as an engagement gift - all of my family have had older models of Mixmasters and swear by them.
Unfortunately the motor of my mixer has just blown up - the machine has been used occasionally for three months and I was only making meringue when it broke. I was careful not to overwork the machine as it tends to get hot very quickly, however it just doesn't seem to be powerful enough to handle basic recipes.
I was also disappointed to discover that the bowls of this mixer don't spin, it needs constant scraping and is very noisy to operate.
I don't imagine I'll be able to get a replacement as the device was a gift and I don't have proof of purchase.

What a shame!

published

I also bought this for sentimental reasons. What a complete waste of metal, energy and money. The base doesn't turn, so I was hand turning the bowl and the beaters get caught on each other. The service centre offered no help. Take it off the market, it's useless piece of equipment. It is such a shame, I regret buying it.

Useless Piece of Junk

published

I wish that I had read the reviews before I bought this utterly useless machine. The beaters don't even hit the bottom of the bowl, I have to physically turn the bowl to get it to turn around. This is the most useless thing I have ever bought. They should take it off the market immediately.

Utterly Utterly Useless

published

I bought this for sentimental reasons remembering the old mixmasters form the 60s. This reproduction is rubbish. The bowl keeps sticking to the base and won't come off. Had to dismantle the base and hold the serrated plastic ratchet to get it off but it just keeps sticking. It's a design fault. Bowl doesn't turn effectively, beaters get hot and it doesn't mix well. It's a useless piece of junk and I would take it back if I could, unfortunately I am now in the UK.

Devastated!

published

I am so disappointed in this machine, I could cry! I bought it for myself for Christmas and it doesn't work how it should :( The bowl turns ONLY when you keep touching it to move. It doesn't scrape the sides which means I am constantly sticking a spoon in the bowl. The attachments are impossible to get into the machine. It has just really upset me! :(

Can't get parts to fix it & it's only 4 yrs old!

published

Had my sunbeam food processor for 20 years so bought the mixmaster. What a disappointment after only 4 yrs the turning circle gears broke and the poor service agent couldn't get the spare parts to fix it. He did his best, but now it's noisier and won't last. Will not be buying sunbeam again!

Hello Lisa L.
I haven't come across this problem before, giver your local repair agent a call to see if this is repairable. We have a directory of repair service agents, find your local agent here: https://www.sunbeam.com.au/en/Service-Agent-Locator/

You will not be able to fix this problem, it is a design fault and new beaters will be chewed out in a very short time.

Have you got the wrong size bowl for the slider setting at the front of the mixmaster?? That little thing at the front that you can slide one way or the other. That is for the different sized bowls.

I inherited this mixer from a friend and I'm not sure how long ago she bought it (probably quite a while if I'm honest), but the speeds do not vary - it's all FAST.

Cheap and easy way for a fix please?

I have an older bench mixer MX001G and this happens to me too. From numbers 1-12, it's all the same speed (the fastest). Very annoying when you just need to combine ingredients and don't need to beat egg whites.

Hi,
There are a couple of different things inside of the mixer, one is on the switch which is either a resistor or a governor capacitor. It is round like a C size battery and has a coating on it. The older ones had like a porcelain type coating. I believe this is what controls the speeds. Dave at davesrepair.com here in the US can probably help you. He has an email address on his website which you can ask him questions. Sometimes he takes a few days to reply but he did reply to some of my questions within a couple days. He may have the part/parts you need....Also there is a YouTube channel called vintage mixers and more. The gentleman that runs that channel fixes things like that and he may be able to help as well. You can ask him questions in the comment section of his videos. He has a lot of videos about different mixers and such and he may just have one about your particular model. Just search your make and model of mixer to see if there are any videos of your particular one. Hope this helps
