Beater gears worn away

published

I recieved my mixmaster as a present less than 2 years ago and use it a dozen times a year. I find the motor nice and quiet but the beaters very hard to get in. Just recently the beaters jammed when I was beating some butter and then the outer beater stopped rotating. When I ejected it I fond the gears had stripped and the beater will no longer spin. Spare parts are quite expensive considering the cost of the machine!

Terrible

published

I bought a Sunbeam Mixmaster Classic from David Jones a couple of years ago. I had never owned one and was quite excited. What a letdown! The bowls needed help to turn, it was noisy and I foolishly didn't return it during the Warranty period. Well recently one of the beaters shattered and as of today the whole thing is being tossed in the bin.How disappointing to see what used to be a good Brand turn into such a heap of crap. Never again and I need to buy another but am wondering which is the best. There are no perfect reviews on any of them.

Just don't make 'em like they used to

published

I bought my mixmaster 5 years ago with all my birthday money from friends and family. It started making a terrible noise luckily within the 1 year warranty and was pretty happy to get a whole new mixmaster sent to me. Fast-forward 5 years and it had served me well and helped me make a lot of thing in this time but the base has stopped turning and I'm not going to get another one. I bought the Sunbeam mixmaster because my mum's is still working after 40 years, but the quality is just obviously not what it used to be.

Bought this mixer last year (2015 ) to bake my Christmas cakes and I loved it.. put it back in its original box with all the packing, took it out to use for thanksgiving, started mixing and 2mins into mixing my battery it just stopped and will not cut back on... A waste of money!!

Terrible product with possible intention by company to fail for replacement?

published

The product has a terrible life span and when trying to see where things have gone wrong internally discovered that it was intentionally built so that maintenance and part replacement is nearly impossible!

Ours is stuck on high speed and I believe it is something to do with gears yet not being able to effectively access the whole internal area Sunbeam is forcing customers to replace?

Only other option is paying $100 for someone to tell me they can't fix it either.

Very put off Sunbeam products after this experience.

Disappointing

published

When using Sunbeam's own recipes (or family favourite recipes) this mixer (a) struggles to turn on the base (needs hand assistance), (b) splatters onto the kitchen bench and (c) beaters also take a couple of attempts to insert (yes, correct left/right orientation). None of this used to happen with earlier Mixmasters. Sunbeam can, and should, do better.

Better than a hand mixer

published

This was given to me second hand and I'm not much of a baker so haven't used it a whole lot, and probably haven't given it a hard enough time like others here ... but it works fine for the pavs I make on occasion and has certainly lasted longer than a year.

I think it's fine for what it does. Nothing fancy and better than a hand mixer for those long mixes, like a pav. I like that it's not heavy like the kitchenaid and I can easily lift it in and out of the cupboard with the handle.

Don't waste your money!

published

We received a Mixmaster as part of our Engagement Party Gift Registry. We had requested the mixmaster due to their stellar reputation. Less than 6 months later, only using it 3 times, the bowl seized on the mixer, we couldn't get it on or off or move it at all, so we took it back to Myer and received a replacement, which was great! Just over another 6 months later, again with minimal domestic use, the motor has just blown up... that's 2 units in 12 months... I just want my money back so that I am able to buy a mixer that doesn't have a catastrophic failure every 6 months!

Very disappointing, I won't be buying another Sunbeam product again, as there appears to be major faults with their design, durability and quality assurance!

Sunbeam failed after 2 years light use

published

When my Sunbeam mixmaster of 35 years finally died 2 years ago, I thought a new Sunbeam would be just the thing. Wrong. Purchased 4/2014, the rheostat speed is either off or flat out. Very disappointed after all these years and reviews seem to back this up for the brand.

Great product, I'm happy with my Mixmaster

published

This is a real labor saving device. I haven't had a Mixmaster before so I don't know how it compares with other brands but I'm using it all the time now. I mainly mix cake mixes, whip cream and use the more gentle fold setting. With mixtures that have cold butter I find I sometimes need to scrape the mixture manually down from the sides a couple of times, but assume this is usual with such a heavy mixture. I haven't had any trouble with the motor overheating.

Great mixmaster

published

I love my machine, I was looking for a mixmaster that would work well and not cost the earth, within 6 months it had paid for itself, I love it.

I bought the Florence Broadhurst version from David Jones, which added a nice style aspect to the mixer too.

Would definitely recommend to any novice chefs out there.

This performs well

published

I have had mine for 9 years and regularly use it for cakes and biscuits. I think it performs tasks of creaming and mixing very well and great for whisking egg whites. I also find it as good as planetary types for kneading dough (500g flour).....and much quieter at it. I am surprised at the low rating given by many unless the newer models are poorly constructed.

Motor blew in first few months of use

published

I was so excited to receive this mixer as an engagement gift - all of my family have had older models of Mixmasters and swear by them.
Unfortunately the motor of my mixer has just blown up - the machine has been used occasionally for three months and I was only making meringue when it broke. I was careful not to overwork the machine as it tends to get hot very quickly, however it just doesn't seem to be powerful enough to handle basic recipes.
I was also disappointed to discover that the bowls of this mixer don't spin, it needs constant scraping and is very noisy to operate.
I don't imagine I'll be able to get a replacement as the device was a gift and I don't have proof of purchase.

What a shame!

published

I also bought this for sentimental reasons. What a complete waste of metal, energy and money. The base doesn't turn, so I was hand turning the bowl and the beaters get caught on each other. The service centre offered no help. Take it off the market, it's useless piece of equipment. It is such a shame, I regret buying it.

Useless Piece of Junk

published

I wish that I had read the reviews before I bought this utterly useless machine. The beaters don't even hit the bottom of the bowl, I have to physically turn the bowl to get it to turn around. This is the most useless thing I have ever bought. They should take it off the market immediately.

Utterly Utterly Useless

published

I bought this for sentimental reasons remembering the old mixmasters form the 60s. This reproduction is rubbish. The bowl keeps sticking to the base and won't come off. Had to dismantle the base and hold the serrated plastic ratchet to get it off but it just keeps sticking. It's a design fault. Bowl doesn't turn effectively, beaters get hot and it doesn't mix well. It's a useless piece of junk and I would take it back if I could, unfortunately I am now in the UK.

Very Disappointed

published

Over the years, I have mixed by hand and thought I would buy myself a new machine. What a joke my butter and sugar turned out like concrete, egg whites took for ever and still didn't peak I made 3 cakes two mixed by the mixer both flopped and decided to mix by hand the 3rd success at last.

Mine stopped working almost imediately and had the inconvienience of returning it then purchasing a replacement...another brand. Others appear to have had many and varying issues with this model. I would never presume to tell another what to buy, however if you purchase one of these be prepared for the very high possibility of it failing. As for what Sunbeam can guarantee it wont fail, ask them.
