Good for what is it

published

It is easy to use with no unnecessary buttons or functions. It is great for a small cup of coffee but won't fit a thermos or anything bigger than a medium sized cup. We also found the machine quite loud, especially the frother but it is bearable. Overall great for a small office or to put in the kitchen.

Value for Money

published

I bought this almost one and half years ago and have used it every day since then to make two cups of coffee in the morning. It took a week or so to learn to use it properly. It took some time to learn how to froth milk without making a loud noise. Also, the tray must be emptied after every use or the water can spill over. After learning these little things making coffee with it became really easy. The coffee is as good as from any cafe (depending on the quality of coffee used). Easy to use and maintain. Great value for money.

Great but hard to get the inserts out of the coffee holder

published

We purchased this machine from bigw about 6mths ago. It's a great little machine, doesn't easily fit a big cup but wasn't designed to! The only issue I have is trying to get the half shot / single shot inserts for the coffee holder in and out - I nearly stab myself with a knife trying to do this in the mornings. I would be great to have a second handle to use but the parts are too expensive.

Just die after 4 years

published

We purchased this coffee maker 4 years ago and it has just gone crazy staying on and tricking the breaker so we have replaced it with a new Expresso 2. It has been a great coffee maker and we have been happy with it.
The trick with this machine is to throw away the stupid drain tray and hang the end of the machine over the sink drainer, No more leak- drain problems, big cups fit and no need to empty the annoying drainer.
The new Expresso 2 is high enough to take big cups, but we will hang this one too/
It would be nice if Sunbeam could attach an optional tube to the drainer so the tube could drain the drainer.

I have contacted your customer care team and was offered a 30% discount but you sell the product for almost exactly 30% more than retailers. I wouldn't invest another cent in a Sunbeam machine.

Good coffee but it leaks from base

published

Just tracking down a solution to the leaking - otherwise great for what it is. Didn't leak to begin with but now it is a little annoying. Haven't had any other problems. I've bought other sunbeam coffee makers before and mostly they're the best value for money and good quality coffee.

Just OK coffee but Heavy blowouts after 6 weeks...useless

published

Quite hard to master making good coffee, and then used more beans than our older cheaper boil pressure kambrook to get a similar result. After 6 weeks the seal is blowing every time causing hot water and grinds to pour into the cup.. Totally useless...I dont even care if it can be fixed because we have used cheap machines for 15 years and never encountered this bad a design fault..

It takes the joy out of making coffee

published

This machine is probably worth every bit of the $99 I paid for it, which has taught me to never be so cheap when it comes to purchasing a coffee machine. The photograph on the packaging makes the product look quite stylish, however the components are very cheap and seems flimsy and fragile (compared to my previous Sunbeam coffee machine which served me well for many years). The cup filters are difficult to remove from the handle. The handle is extremely difficult to fit into the brewing head. And the machine leaks from somewhere. Aside from the flaws I have mentioned, once you've fought with all of the components and aggressively inserted them into place (as that is the only way possible) this machine makes a good espresso.

Problems from the outset

published

We purchased our machine online from a distributor and we have problems from the outset. Leaking water from where the tank meets the machine means we have to remove the rear tank after every use or we have a puddle of water to clean up. A couple of weeks later it has started to leak coffee grinds into the cup from where the handle(which is very flimsy plastic type) meets the group head - and no the coffee is not packed too tight. We are having problems with the place we purchased it from even though Sunbeam say it should be replaced. Probably OK for value for money but I would not buy again.

It works as advertised

published

Just got this last week from big W, makes good crema, steamer works well. Just one thing that annoys me and that is the water container at the back keeps leaking BUT still good value for money and a beginner!
Been drinking 2-3 cups latte or cap a day since then, and still having fun with it! Hope it lasts!

really useless machine

published

The coffee shots are watery no matter what coffee or calibration I try. The steamer is weak and does not make the milk hot enough. I have tried many different ways to make it work as I have worked in cafés. Very disappointed in this machine. I will not be purchasing Sunbeam again.

Fantastic value

published

We've owned this machine for almost a year, and we use it three times a day (typically two cups each time). It would be our fifth espresso machine (we love coffee!). We've had expensive ones in the past and we had a Nespresso POD machine prior to this before it gave up the ghost. We don't use the milk frother (as we have another) so I can't comment on that part. But this machine is a little beauty! Sure, the water tray might leak and we removed the top of the tray so we could fit larger coffee cups underneath. But, with freshly ground coffee, this makes a lovely cup! And it's less than a third of what we typically paid for previous machines. When it does finally give up I'll be buying exactly the same machine again.

Good so far

published

I have replaced my Breville Barvista with EM2800. States it fits a mug - no it does not. Does not froth up milk like my old machine. I make my coffee in the jug provided as it just fits under the dispenser and a full jug make a mug of coffee. A gauge "Full" on the front water container would be appreciated in future models. Other than those couple of glitches am happy with the machine.

Good little machine for the price

published

Bought this machine for our caravan since I have a larger version in my home. I have to say it makes great coffee for being such an economical price. The quality of construction is definitely not there, things just seem a bit loose and cheap but that would most likely be why the price is much lower. I know the coffee pod machines would be easier with travelling and camping but the kids love to froth their hot chocolates and I still prefer to freshly grind my beans (a bit spoiled). I was actually recommended this machine, so far I haven't had any issues as others have noted but I don't tend to use it on a daily basis like my other. Overall it makes a good cup of coffee so far, quality is lower than the higher end machines.

Help!! Can anyone tell me please, if there should be a single hole in the base of each of the 1 and 2 cup filters?
Mine have no holes, yet I can't see anything in the instruction booklet about piercing the holes initially. Although in the 'Care and Cleaning' section, it states "Insert a pin into the single hole in the base of the filter".

Yes. There is a single hole in the exact centre of the base of each filter. It is below the words 1-Cup or 2-Cup.
You don't have to make the hole it is already there.

Thank you Boba. I was expecting the holes to be right through the filters, which is not the case. On closer inspection after reading your answer, I could see it clearer, They are like shallow holes!!!

Hi,,my son bought me the Sunbeam Picolo coffee machine in 2014,it's still going strong, makes a great cuppachino and froths the milk well too. It's just dripping a little water from the seal around the tamper, just wondering if i can get a replacement seal and put it in myself.
Thanks.

Yes you can.

I got one a couple weeks back from eBay, it was about $18 delivered. Just search for Sunbeam EM2800 coffee machine seal.

The hard part is getting the old one off. I used a precision flat-blade screwdriver, and made the change in under a minute.

Just be sure to clean the surface of the machine, under the seal. You will be surprised at how much coffee sneaks its way under there.

The steam pressure is not working. I turn it on and wait a few seconds and then the steam that’s built up expels through the machine. This is the second time I’ve bought this sunbeam piccolo machine because of its capability. And the second time I’ve had this issue, it’s only just outside of its 12 month warranty also. What can I do?

1 answer
ShaneA
ShaneA

I usually turn my machine on about 10 minutes before I want to use it. It only takes about 30 seconds to warm up though. On my one, the steam can take a couple of cycles of the internal pump, then it gets going properly. Mine dumps the excess steam through the water outlet, once I turn the dial back to the top position.

Hopefully this description helps you.
