Makes good coffee, but?
The Piccolo makes good coffee, but?, water leakage from water container producing a water puddle under the machine. Not a very good design of the rubber valve? where the water container fits into the rubber insert of the body of the machine. Has any one heard about re-calls of this product?
Inexpensive, makes a good coffee reasonably quickly

Best cup of coffee I have had!
I have been looking for a coffee machine for a few weeks now. I nearly bought a $400 Gaggia classic and was watching it on ebay when I came across a lady doing a milk demo using this machine at my local woolworths. I was shocked at the quality of the espresso that came from this inexpensive machine. The crema was superb. I had seen it in the shops before but would never have thought that such a cheap machine made by Sunbeam would actually make a good coffee. I went straight to Big W and picked one up for $98! I made my first cup using Woolwo...Read more

Great Coffee but stopped working after 4 months
I had this coffee machine bought for me as a present and it was great! Fantastic coffee and it takes up such a small amount of room on the kitchen bench. Unfortunately after using it for 4 months the machine stopped working. The people who gifted it to me moved house and don't have the receipt anymore and Sunbeam are quite blunt and unhelpful on the phone. I will be looking at another brand from now on but will hopefully be able to find a comparable product!
Great tasting coffee

Fabulous for a small cheap capppccino machine
I was fortunate enough to win this coffee machine and have been so happy with it. It is easy to use, and very easy to clean. They sell in the shops for a very reasonable price and for an entrance into espresso machines, you really can't wrong. It has been very reliable.
It has been very reliable, and is very inexpensive.

Makes great lattes!
This is my first coffee machine so i thought i would try a cheap one to start off with.I love it,it makes great lattes after a bit of practice & experimenting.I am saving heaps of $$ not buying takeaway coffees everyday.I chose the piccolo after reading the great reviews and i am really happy with it.I love Vittoria Oro preground coffee and have also tried Lavazza and Gloria Jeans Caramel coffee which are both nice as well. The piccolo is easy to use and clean and doesn't take up much bench space. I like a tall mug so i just take out the tray to fit the mug under it.It is a bit noisy, the lid on the water tank rattles when machine in use but that doesn't bother me.Overall it makes a beautiful latte.
Easy to use and clean, works great.

Great little machine, especially for the price
While this machine is very loud, it does make a lovely shot! The plastic tamper that comes with it is useless, so you'll probaby need to buy a metal one separately. I grabbed a stainless steel one on eBay for about $30. The tiny size of this machine is very useful for tight spaces and its very stylish. At this price, we bought it to learn on and play around with, knowing that if it didn't work out it wasn't a lot of money to lose. It can produce two shots at once with the double shot head, but you have to be careful to align the two shot glasse...Read more

Cheap Rubbish
It makes a good coffee and froths milk well, the sad thing is the quality.
The first one I had, the frothier died in the first week, so I took in back to Big W, to swap it for another one.
The second one leaked water out, through the base, it's a shame it is made so cheaply because it does make a great coffee.
Makes a nice coffee.
Quality, Leaked and the frothier died in a week.

Better than many machines 4 times the price.
It replaced broken down and way too expensive DeL***** which was just out of warranty and we were quoted more than 3 times the price of Piccolo to fix it. Much to our shock, when used properly and with good quality beans - it produces far superior coffee and froth than our RIP DeL***** ever did. No offence to anyone who had problems with Piccolo, but I am covinced that people with leaking seals and other bit (weak coffee) are the people who didn't bother reading instructions or just very rough individuals in general for whom nothing is built to...Read more

Great for the price
I bought my machine a few weeks ago, it's been great. I make a couple cups in the morning - the coffee is delicious and the machine is easy to maintain. While it isn't as robust as more expensive machines, treated with reasonable care I think it's value for money and should last years.
Good value, makes a nice cup of coffee

Further To Previous Review - Sunbeam Piccolo Expresso Machine
I had the opportunity to edit my previous review, and therefore did not need this extra review to make some corrections. The original contents of this amended review has also been deleted.
However, I will take the opportunity to suggest a change to the cleaning regime for the Piccolo.
After pouring your coffee and adding the froth, quickly wipe the frothing wand with a wet cloth, as the dried milk will becoming harder to remove later. The tip "bulb" can be unscrewed and flushed under the tap. But not too necessary if you send a burst of ...Read more
steam through the frothing wand after wiping the exterior. But whereas the instruction booklet suggests cleaning the coffee head by using the "group handle" (holding the filter) minus the coffee and switching to the pour coffee setting - thus running water through it, I suggest an alternative. With the machine on "standby" (central switch position), simply remove the "group handle" altogether, and place a breakfast or other bowl on the drip tray grill, and then turn the switch as if to pour coffee.Similar opinion? Very Good
I bought Sunbeam Piccolo after reading good reviews online and used it for over a month. I compared the taste of coffee with other machines and using different brands of coffee. Tried coffee(I think it is a Lavazza machine)at Myer Chadstone (second flour), machine with capsules. Then took home the same capsule (They gave me one because I wanted to try it at home). At home I took the contents of the capsule and made a coffee on my Sumbeam Piccolo. I didn't notice any difference. It was as tasty as coffee made at Myer. That coffee machine cost ab...Read more
out $300-$400. The Sunbeam Piccolo makes good crema (yellow layer on the top) and good froth depending on your experience. I never had a coffee machine before. Sunbeam Piccolo I bought as a first machine and compared with other machines. I think it is as good as other more expensive machines. I used to make coffee with a plunger and could not drink it without sugar or chocolate because it was bitter. Now I can actually drink coffee without sugar. Bang for your buck, this is a ripper.
This little machine does the job, well. Great coffee, good crema, the steaming takes a little while to get up to speed but a little faith gets you a wonderful froth . Small enough to put away, big enough capacity to get you through an all nighter . Don't spend $1000's on a fancy coffee machine, spend $80 on a coffee grinder and buy eight more of these.
Great coffee, good froth, good capacity, ease of operation, easy to clean, compact size.
Lacks the weight of more substantial machine, you may think you'll break it.

Its a great little machine that doesn't make you regret not having the up market ones. It is nice and compact, easy to fit in any kitchen and since we only need to make about 4 cups a day, it is ideal for us. I bought one for my parents as well and they love it.

One word will do - perfect
I've had an expensive Jura for many years which was new over $2k and worked fine if looked after. But it died recently and I bought the Sunbeam Piccolo - Whow!
I just love it. It heats up very quickly, froths the milk much better than the Jura and the crema is much better than the Jura also.
It only uses half the space but makes our latte's in half the time and they taste fantastic. I also love the "crude" switch, no soft-touch relay controlled switch (something else that could otherwise break).
Fantastic little machine!

Awesome! Easy to use and makes a great cup.
I read the reviews here and decided it was worth trying the Piccolo out rather than going for a more expensive machine. Our previous semi-automatic Sunbeam finally bit the dust after several years of very hard use so I was keen to grab another Sunbeam but didn't want to spend as much money this time so I could throw it away and buy another one once it dies rather than pay for repairs once the warranty finishes.

ing action just right or you really just got a cup of hot milk. With this one you basically just stick the wand into the milk, wait a while and you have perfect foam. Being used to a semi-automatic I was at first thrown off that the machine doesn't automatically stop at the end of an espresso "shot" but that was no biggy once I realised it and now I actually prefer this system anyway because it's much easier to prepare a tall black or a flat white with a longer shot rather than topping up with the kettle. I'm no coffee aficionado but the result to me is as good as anything I've got from a coffee shop and it is fast and simple to use. I'm kind of annoyed now that I spent so much getting a semi-automatic for my first machine. I definitely wouldn't have bothered if I'd known how good this little beauty is. Cheap, easy to use and works perfectly.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Nope - don't believe the glowing reviews
I bought this based on glowing reviews here. Unfortunately, I have no idea why most people seem so happy with it.
Its pretty standard that a single espresso shot is around 30 ml in 30 seconds. This machine either squirts the coffee too quickly and its watery, or if the grind is finer or tamped harder, springs leaks from around the group seal.
This is fairly much a no win situation for the owner.
I reboxed it and sent it back to Target for a refund. The only good experience with this machine is that I discovered that Target online doesnt charge me return postage for sending it back and they processed the refund without problems.

Easy to Use and Great Machine
This is a great machine for everyday use, and takes next to no space in the kitchen (unlike the larger ones that need their own bench!) Simple and easy to use without needing a degree and works well with all pre ground coffee from the supermarket that we have tried.
Simple to use and clean
Wish it had a lager jug to heat enough for two cups at a time

Excellent - No need to pay hundreds more
I'm not only extremely fussy when it comes to good, well made coffee, but have had many years experience as a barista.
I smile when at times I overhear salespeople try to dupe unsuspecting customers into spending hundreds of dollars more for what they claim is a far better coffee machine - rubbish!
I just recently bought this machine to replace its superseded model (which I owned for years too) and I can't fault its performance or the end result, which is as good a quality as maybe 90% or more of coffee shops here in Melbourne.

fact that is a huge difference between this entry level and a better machine. Also the thing about not freshly ground is plain wrong too. You can make good coffee with packet ground but it's nowhere near as good as fresh. The main problem with the machine is consistency. The thermostat isn't really accurate so if you're making one coffee it'll be good. Second, third etc can be really variable. The filter basket is a pressurized basket designed for foolproof operation. Not a bad thing but not as good as a proper basket. Also the way the water is heated is designed for a domestic market not consistency. The water passes through a heating element which becomes less efficient with use compared to a proper machine which has a boiler with a much higher thermal mass. All in all a good entry machine, much better than the price suggests. Highly recommend for a first machine but you will get a superior coffee going 7 or 8 times more expensive and going with an actual coffee machine brand. It seems you have wandered away from the Coffee Snobs Forum, and logged in here by mistake.

Close to Cafe Quality
I bought this machine thinking I could make coffee at home and it would be as good as my local cafe. It wasn't! But as it turned out is wasn't the machine's fault it was the operator. So I had lessons and now I and the machine can make coffee close to cafe quality.

Help!! Can anyone tell me please, if there should be a single hole in the base of each of the 1 and 2 cup filters?
Mine have no holes, yet I can't see anything in the instruction booklet about piercing the holes initially. Although in the 'Care and Cleaning' section, it states "Insert a pin into the single hole in the base of the filter".
2 answers
Yes. There is a single hole in the exact centre of the base of each filter. It is below the words 1-Cup or 2-Cup.
You don't have to make the hole it is already there.
Bob
Thank you Boba. I was expecting the holes to be right through the filters, which is not the case. On closer inspection after reading your answer, I could see it clearer, They are like shallow holes!!!

Hi,,my son bought me the Sunbeam Picolo coffee machine in 2014,it's still going strong, makes a great cuppachino and froths the milk well too. It's just dripping a little water from the seal around the tamper, just wondering if i can get a replacement seal and put it in myself.
Thanks.
2 answers
Yes you can.
I got one a couple weeks back from eBay, it was about $18 delivered. Just search for Sunbeam EM2800 coffee machine seal.
The hard part is getting the old one off. I used a precision flat-blade screwdriver, and made the change in under a minute.
Just be sure to clean the surface of the machine, under the seal. You will be surprised at how much coffee sneaks its way under there.
Thanks Shane
I appreciate you taking the time to answer my question.
All the best to you.

The steam pressure is not working. I turn it on and wait a few seconds and then the steam that’s built up expels through the machine. This is the second time I’ve bought this sunbeam piccolo machine because of its capability. And the second time I’ve had this issue, it’s only just outside of its 12 month warranty also. What can I do?
1 answer
I usually turn my machine on about 10 minutes before I want to use it. It only takes about 30 seconds to warm up though. On my one, the steam can take a couple of cycles of the internal pump, then it gets going properly. Mine dumps the excess steam through the water outlet, once I turn the dial back to the top position.
Hopefully this description helps you.
