I love this little truck....everything about it.
The only thing I'd do if I could, would be to whack a turbo on it. I'm doing the Simpson Desert next year and am a little worried that it doesn't have enough torque for the big sand dunes.

Great little picnic truck
Bought it 7 years ago it was 5 years old with 30000k, its now12 with 170000k, never missed a beat.
Good approach/departure angles and short wheelbase it goes anywhere you want.
Serviced every 10000 and its never needed any other repairs.
Use only 98 octane the extra cost doesn't matter as its so economical
reliable solid little vehicle
Your butt gets a bit sore on long trips e.g. Syd - Melb.

"Jimny Death Wobble"
I bought a second hand Jimny 2 weeks ago. Overall I would be satisfied with it if it didn't have a death wobble.. at 60km/h the steering wheel and the whole car shakes uncontrollably. Apparently it is a very common problem with no real lasting solution. There are a few solutions which I will try in the coming weeks which will hopefully patch the problem. :(
fun, fairly good on fuel if you drive it right

thanks Gordon, It has actually been fixed now. Turned out the wheels had different offsets! Now I've got a different problem - if I go over 80 the engine revs randomly and I have to pull over and restart the car. It's a bit of a lemon i think
Try to change every oil and filter it it is not gonna work than check the transmission.

UNBREAKABLE!!
Having 150 acres up on the NSW mid North Coast, I wanted a 4WD that I could leave there and use my Toyota Prius for the commute between Sydney and ' The Farm'.. That meant looking high and Low for the right car at the right price.. I had heard of the Jimny's before and sough one out that was a fair price and available.. Its been up at the farm now for over a year and does EVERYTHING!!! The Farm is rolling hills and small mountains that are well wooded.. The Jimny takes everything in he stride ! My only planned expenditure is to get some decen...Read more
t Mud Tyres( its wet n cold and rains a lot up there ! ) so we can traverse all the areas without spinning tyres too much on the ( as yet) uncut fields.. Would i buy another one !! In A Heartbeat! Except for slightly higher fuel consumption than i might like, (the Prius does spoil me ) The Jimny is Heaps fune and can do anything we ask of her! Great car for the weekend
Bought a 2002 model car 2nd hand 6 months ago and honestly can say this will not be the only Suzuki Jimny I will own. The original reason to purchase this car was to teach my partner to drive, she is 5'4" and it fits her well. I even seem to fit into it and I am 6'3".
The car itself had seen a bit of action so unfortunately it has been for service 2 times already, Mainly idling problems.
Not a great car for everyday around town, although parking, turning and merging are so easy in this nice short beast. A nice bit of zip to.

feels more comfortable with 4x 85kg+ blokes in it, definetly over engineered. Roof racks are a must, as there is very little boot space if you want to transport 4 people. Although the back seats in my car rarely seem to be up. The gearbox is clunky and I find it difficult to change gears, although this might be the fact I need a new clutch. If you are on the highway you will want to be on your way to a holiday and not running late. Even though I like getting my speed kicks on my 600cc motorbike, I like sitting sitting in the far left lane in this car travelling 90-95km/hr in the 110km/hr, watching everyone else on the highway pass me by. Not to say the car has the heart to travel 110km/hr, it is just more comfortable at 90 for long distances.1 comment
Idling problems - like a blip's in the revs while stationary? The gearbox feels notchy as standard - try adding Nulon G70 gearbox treatment into the next gearbox oil service, it will help a lot!

Great car
My Jimny had to follow the biggest lemon I had ever owned so my expectations were high! It has lived up to them and more ... Not one issue! Easy to service, run, drive, park and have fun in! It even was great when we had a child with a good height for getting baby capsule in and out while sitting on reclined front seat. I have never written a review for anything until now .... That is how great my little car is!
Everything ... Reliable, easy and inexpensive to service and run.
Small boot ... Difficult if there is more than 2 of you going camping

Greatest car ive owned and I've had 8 cars. Love it!!
Had my jimny for over a year now (1999 model) its 13 years old now with 110000km.
It is the greatest car ive had by far, Ive had a vitara and and hilux and this is like the perfect combo of size and comfort. The coil spring suspension is smooth and handles great. The power steering is strong and easy, Clutch is vacuum assisted so even your 90 year old grandma could drive it. It doesnt use much fuel. The 1.3L engine is adequate for its small size. Got a ARB bullbar for it and it looks fantastic.
Super easy to fix as everything is small and ...Read more

Amazing Car, despite the negative, so called " expert reviews"......!
I must admit when I decided to get a Jimny, it was the change i was looking for, it has altered my driving, I was concerned with its reputation on Tarmac being poor, but as mine is 2012 model, i wondered if Suzuki had made some changes because the stability is far better that what was said, i know it has'nt got ESP, but I am aware that some suspension improvements have been made by Suzuki and it shows with improved handling, You still have to take it easy on damp islands and bends, but the Jimny is a vehicle thats gives great satisfaction and d...Read more
oes a lot more than it is supposed not do, and its a vehicle that has total empathy with the driver once you get used to it, the jimny is compelling, addictive and ticks all my boxes, I can't wait for the new one to come out with ESP.....it will then be perfect! once you get used to it the jimny is compelling, addictive and ticks all my boxes. would be better with ESP and if the rear seats folded completely flat1 comment

I'm unsatisfied that due to the bearings and seals prematurely wearing and having 3 years and 13 attempts to 'Try' to fix the front end - its lead me to honestly say that due to this fact that I wouldnt "EVER" buy another - however that now that the car is at the stage that it is as 'fixed as best as they can' and that its drivable and working - that its a little 4WD that's got its own personality and it is individual in the soup bowel mix of traffic - being a larger fella at 6'0" - the car is a little on the smaler side however anyone thinking...Read more
of a smaller 4WD to use for Fishing, camping, or visiting the Islands (Frazer, Morton etc) would ultimatly appreciate this cars abilities - however it shouldnt be pushed like a GQ or a Landy... The car's overall stable without any of the issues and aftermarket parts are not as prolific like more usual 4WD's. In conclusion I wouldnt purchase another Jimny if I had the chance, however I wouldnt turn people off having a go as there isnat 'anything' like this 4WD on the market - if your buying new ensure that the steering is 100% with all Suzuki fixes applied before purchase - if your buying 2nd Hand - make sure that the log book's 100% and that there has been any Suzuki updates applied and that the steering is looked at by RACQ etc with steering wobble & bearing failure kept in mind... Overall design and construction of the unit, better fuel economy (back to standard tyres) - Dont use BF Goodrich AT's they'll destroy fuel econony and your Jimny... Its good on the beach and in the rougher stuff, however fitting bash plates & other protective measures will see you going further & harder. The engine is based on a free revving design which means that its low wear and has a good rev range and usable power - however its not a V8 and wont make more than 90ponies (minature farm ponies or the power of 4 restrained children at your desposal)... The plastics and exterior panels fit well, and have endured the harsh Australian sun for 4 years and thats a good sign for a small car - especially a cheap small car. A good driving position, good view albeit the B-pillar's a bit of a worrying blind spot - otherwise its set out well and long drives are semi bearable. Stability is good as long as you drive within reason and the overall live axle design is proven stable in both the dry and wet. The gearing is 'low' and as most people say keeping to 100km/ph is the most efficient speed - however the shift on the fly 4WD system can be problematic in some cases, but by ensuring good oils are used and servicing intervals are maintained I've had no issues with it ever - and it works flawlessly. Underdeveloped / engineered front steering knuckle bearings & seals - have had a lot of issues due to this and fitting larger tyres. Have had the vehicle for 45000km's & its gone back to the repair shop 13 times since new. Overall nothing else mechanically - use good fuel like Shell or BP (91, 94 Ethonol or 95) as my Jimny doesnt like Caltex and has built up a bad carbon layer in the engine due to poor quality fuel from them. The rear seats also are folded 100% of the time - considdering laying a flat floor & anchor points as carrying 4 people is out of the question! Installing a steering dampener and offset bushings in th front pan hard rods improves steering and makes the car less jittery on poorly surfaced roads. The fuel tank could be a little larger & suzuki could have used the space underneath the car to a better advantage & installed say a 50liter for better range. Braking is ok - front discs are solid unventilated and the rear are leading & traling drum brakes and could have been ventilated both front and disc rear that some owners are modifying for better performance, otherwise changing the OEM pads to say EBC Ultimate Black Stuff show's a greater response in braking. No rust is evident however rustproofing is effective with a CouplerTec installed - I could see that if no rustproofing was done there would be an issue after a few outings on the beach.2 comments

A fab little 4x4 with a big heart
This is definitely a car with a personality.
I've only had mine for 2 months and I can already say that it's the best car I've owned. Yes it's got a bumpy ride, yes it's NOT a road rocket, yes it's got a small boot, but by god it's a ton of fun to bash around in.
The Jimny will literally climb/crawl over/slide around/vault any offroad obstacle you point it at! You simply skirt around the ones that are too big (it's very skinny).
On the road it's got decent manners, but as I said before, it doesn't have the softest ride. After about ...Read more
115km/h it does start to get noisy, but beyond 125km/h it screams bloody murder! In saying that, the Jimny will zip around at 100km/h as happy as Larry. Rear passenger room is reasonable for small people and larger ones for a short period of time. But the front is pretty roomy in my opinion. I'm only 5'8', so the seating doesn't fuss me too much.1 comment
I agree, one of the best cars I ever owned also on the fuel consumption i.e. 500km on 38liters. I am 6'1 and fit comfortably into the cabin. Worthwhile extras would be a Thule box on the roof.

little 4wd that can
I bought my Jimny new 6 months ago. I've done 4000k so far, and a good portion of that in the bush and on rough tracks. The vehicle has performed flawlessly on road and off. Drive responsibly and give it some respect and you won't have a problem with it.
Fair comfort levels, styling and size is great for city driving and bush driving. Good fuel economy and generally good manners on the road.
Steering wheel is a bit uncomfortable, seating 4 adults is a bit of a stretch.

Coming down from a V8 4wd, the inside and outside dimensions of the Jimny were smaller - but - that's fine. There is plenty of room for my gear. And while I have not had four adults in it I have had two adults and heavy luggage and the car did fine. If you turn the wheel too sharply while going around a corner in the wet - such as turning left or right from a stop sign - you May get some wheel spin and fishtailing. Simply push the 4wd button for a few seconds at the start of your trip in the wet and you'll have better traction. At 6'2" I see we...Read more
ll out of the window (without looking through the sun strip or needing to lower my head to look under the sun visors) and still have plenty of head room and leg room. I am able to see the bonnet as well - something a lot of Small cars don't allow, meaning in those you have to guess where the bonnet is, whereas in the Jimny you can see how close it is to things in front. The breaks work very well. The gears change smoothly. And the power windows and air conditioning don't seem to effect the fuel consumption all that much. The headlights - and high beam - are most impressive. And the car handles off the bitumen very well. After-market roof racks are available for the roof rails - from Supercheap Auto - and are Much cheaper than Genuine parts. Even though it is a 5 speed, the 5th gear's ratio is 1.0 instead of 0.8 as in most other five speeds. The 1.0 ratio is normally the ratio of 4th gear in other cars. This means slightly higher revving at speeds like 100kph, but the engine does Not strain and maintaining the speed up a hill is easy done. There is a slight rattle-type noise which comes from the engine you may have read about in other reviews. This noise goes after the first 1,000 service as the oil is changed and all loose things are tightened up. So far I've done over 17,000 kms since buying the car new and actually like it better than my previous fuel hungry Landrover Discovery. It's handling is most similar to that of a van (engine weight at front with light rear) and you Must drive it accordingly. Do not drive it like a sports car or sedan, but drive it like it should be driven, and you will not have any Issues with the handling. And remember above all other things when driving... when you drive you are in control of a Lethal Weapon - no matter how small or light it is - so drive accordingly and this baby will give you plenty of fun. I've even found some other Jimny drivers will wave to you when passing on the street - not all, but some. I would gladly buy this car again. Push buttons to go from 2wd to 4wd, good vision over the traffic in front, side mirrors are convex just enough to let you see wide on both sides of the car so there is no mirror-blind-spot. The fuel economy is excellent as I get from 13.5 to 14.5 kilometers per litre. Airbags. A/C Need to open driver's door to re-adjust the seat angle - but how often do you do this? So not really that big an issue. Reminder Beep when keys are in ignition with front door open and engine off.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

In general, amazing little car. Fun, lovable, loads of character. Its hard not to love this little beast. Its for those who want a cheap to run, fun to drive car that is different. It has a few issues, but you you chalk them down to 'quirks' then you're all set ;)
Extremely economical, tidy round corners (it, not you :P ) and amazing to park. The small size is really an asset. 4wd comes in handy in the wet, or if you just need more power, very easy to change between drive modes too. Also, the looks: fell in love the first time I saw it, and is ...Read more

Good
loved this car, i always look back with regret at selling mine if i had a chance i would puchase another one, very good on petrol, excellent city / small distance car.
small but still functional, great to find parking with. has a seperate 4wd shift so it is real mini one not like some where they just hit a button.
only a four seater which can be a problem sometimes, small to no boot. might of been the way i drove when i had mine but i found it a little scary when it would almost go up on two wheels when going around corners. also you really feel the wind on these when your on a freeway or something.
