A perfect example of a perfect iron
First things first, I’m not the kind of person who likes to iron due to the fact that it’s a big burden to me, but this iron has changed my views immensely.
As the item arrived at my doorstep, I was excited. To me, when I hear the word “iron”, it’s meant to do what they’re designed to do, but Tefal’s FV5648 does so much more.
What I like about this iron to begin with is their extra large hole where the water is to be poured into. No need to rummage through the drawers to find that hidden cup, I can easily put this iron under the faucet ...Read more
- spillage free. The large 300ml water tank means longer ironing time and less refilling if need be. Waiting time for the iron to heat up can be as quick as 20 to 30 seconds. One problem for me is the “ready” light is located in such an awkward position, I usually have to lean down a bit just to see if the iron is ready for use. It is however sturdy enough to stand upright without ever worrying about it tipping over.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

It's no Iron Mike, but man this thing punches through those creases
Yes, this was provided to me as a part of the ambassador program, no I have not been given any instructions specific to how the review should go other than to make it honest.
Right from the beginning it should be known, I am NOT an ironing guru. I HATE ironing. Almost as much as I hate brussel sprouts... the devils vegetable.
I literally buy my clothes based on whether or not they will need ironing or at least not need much ironing, so am I the right person to review it? It is always good to get an expert and someone who has no idea what ...Read more
the hell they're doing right?? hmmm... Don't get me wrong, I do iron things, maybe once or twice a year or a lot when I am going for a job interview. I do actually own an iron. I purchased a Sunbeam digital iron quite about 5 years ago and it has had maybe a 3 hours use, so this is really all I have to go on to compare it to without dipping back into my memories as a kid with my mums iron which I am pretty sure you need to heat up on a stove it was that old. Straight off the bat the first thing that comes to mind when this thing came out the box was this was not like most normal boring looking irons, it looks like it will iron them at 300kmh down conrod straight. It honestly looks like it has come straight out of the design shop of redbull racings F1 team. I bet not a lot of people are probably looking for that in an iron, but hey it looks pretty sleek.

Fantastic Iron. Great with linen and heavy cottons.
I've had this iron for about 3 weeks now, and I have to say I'm pretty impressed. It was supplied to me to test, in return for my honest thoughts as part of the Ambassador Program.
I'm not usually too enthusiastic about ironing, but I actually enjoy using this iron! (I can hear laughter as I write this - my family thinks it's hilarious that I enjoy using it this much! Before I had kids, I literally refused to ever even pick up an iron, let alone iron my husband's work shirts! In fact, he used to iron mine!!!)
The first thing I noted ...Read more
was that the instructions were confusing - vague diagrams, which I'm still struggling to follow. However, the diagrams on the iron itself make it pretty easy to understand and follow. I noticed it's far heavier than my old iron, which my mother actually noticed when she tried it. She felt it could be too heavy for older or arthritic wrists. I however have no issue with the weight. I love the design of the water vessel - it is transparent and so easy to see how much water is in there, and when you're going to run out. The capacity is impressive - more than enough for a decent ironing session. While it doesn't come with an included cup, it's really not necessary.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Quite impressed
***My Tefal Turbo Pro FV5648 was supplied through the Product Review Ambassador Program in exchange of my honest review. “We” is for my partner and I.***
First thing I noticed when I opened this iron was the packing styrofoam blocks has broken while inside the box that most likely happened during transit. So before I could do anything with it, I had to clean off the styrofoam bits which had come loose and adhered themselves to all parts of the iron like a cat that rolled in bean bag fillings. derstand illustrations (a bit like the IKEA instructions) demonstrating the use, care and what not to do with the iron. But it could do with a bigger font as not everyone finds pictures easy to decipher. It is also Made in France, which to me, made the Tefal stand out from the ocean of Made in China counterparts. We could not help but admire the sleek almost aerodynamic appearance of the iron too! The mix of style with engineering is very French indeed. The auto-off feature is something that I really like about the iron. Because aside from hair straighteners, irons are the most common appliance that tend to be left on. It is one less thing to worry about while ironing your shirt before work. The power cord is a little on the short side, but not a show stopper by any means, we just moved the board closer to a power board, which gave us a little more wiggle room. A little plastic pouring cup to use for filling the steam reservoir would make the package more complete. The transparent nature of the reservoir wall makes it clear how much water is in there and you would know when you need to top up. The water filling hole is quite large as well - big enough to fit my thumb through it.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

An Excellent Iron
The set of skills young people of today should learn, preferably before after leaving home, differ tremendously from those of last century. For example, today it’s important to know how to correctly microwave a pre-cooked dinner or, failing that, the best app for you to order the food in. Back when I left home, around when Ronald Reagan was elected President, I knew how to cook a chop with two veg or, failing that, the correct takeaways to use in order to get a balanced diet over the course of a week. However, some required skills haven’t ch...Read more
anged too much in the last half century. These include separating dark clothes from light ones before you wash them; why you should read the washing instructions on expense clothes lest your wife’s silk blouse shrinks to the size of fitting a Barbie doll; and, of course how to iron said clothes once washed. I learnt to iron from a friend who, after seeing me struggle, decided to show me the correct technique. It happened that his father was an old school dry cleaner who’d taught him and, in turn, he taught me. I recall being surprised to find the shape of the ironing board actually had a practical use -- who’d have thought? Fast forward thirty two years to 2018 and I still enjoy ironing. It’s my one time on the weekend where I can set up an ironing board, turn on the TV and watch some sports whilst trying to achieve a Zen-like state. Of course, in order to achieve clothes pressing enlightenment it helps to have a good iron. Enter Tefal TurboPro **. The first time I saw a Tefal iron was in Britain in the early 1990s and, to me, it was like a revolution in design. Until then, I’d used a hand me down from my parents. It’s difficult to describe the irons from this era, although I have seen their offspring in the cheaper irons today. The irons I used back then had a steel soleplate and water chamber, were typically shaped like a brick with a handle, had had fiddly dials and no visual cues to tell when you needed to fill them up. These irons would sometimes leave either a rust patch on shirts from the steam holes or a nice burn mark in the outline of the steel plate with white steam holes. But the Tefal irons I saw in Britain were sleek with a non-stick hot plate and I bought one. It worked so prodigiously well that i remained faithful to Tefals until we returned to Australia -- a decade and a bit later. But times advance. Today other manufacturers have caught up and the design language of the 1990s Tefals -- its swooping and aerodynamic lines -- has been copied as has its non-stick surfaces. Today, in order for any manufacturer to stand out, an iron needs to be easier to use, simpler to maintain and have a better steam output for electrical input when measured against its competition. I’m glad to say that, in these respects, the Tefal TurboPro still remains ahead of the pack.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Anything that makes the tedious job of ironing easier has got to be a bonus, the Tefal does just that.
After years of using a Phillips Azur I now have a Tefal Turbopro iron, I wasn't expecting a lot of difference, they are ' just Irons ' anyway. I couldn't have been more mistaken.
Straight out of the box I was impressed with the Tefal, that is, once I got over the initial shock of the electric blue colour scheme! The packaging is simple, the pictorial guide easy to follow.

It's good... but not great
We recently received a Tefal TurboPro FV5648 iron from the ieatwords.com.au Ambassador Program to review and, before anyone comments, yes I do share the ironing with my wife so this is a review based on our shared experience with the unit.
First Impressions (pardon the pun)

help, it's just an iron. Much to our surprise the iron is actually a new version of our existing six year old iron, so it should be easy to compare but have its work cut our for it to impress us - the old one is good. In the box was the iron and three documents - the warranty booklet, the safety guide booklet and something I shall generously call a Quick Start Guide. This Quick Start Guide is, without doubt, the most pathetic product document I have come across in years - a single, double sided folded sheet of pictures and iconography which was supposed to explain how to use all the features of three different models of the iron but is actually just confusing rubbish. Even now, after two weeks of use, there are still some parts of this guide which evade our understanding - at least our original iron came with a multi-lingual booklet which used words - a strange concept but one which amazingly conveyed far more meaning that this stupid, penny-pinching sheet of hieroglyphics.Similar opinion? Best Iron by Tefal- never seen an iron this cool
This turbo pro iron has forever changed my views on irons. I never took much notice and only thought an iron is pretty much used to de-crease clothes period so I have always opt for the much cheaper ones. Until I began using this iron, it has never been the same. Not only that it obviously looks cool but it has also CUT my ironing time and energy spent in half. Amazing design Tefal.

Mixed feelings about this one... Let me explain
In the last 12 years I used cheap ish Breville iron that "ticked" all boxes I wanted in an iron I tend to use almost daily. After 12 years the teflon coating started peeling and calc start spitting out of steam holes at times ruining white shirts. I thought - time for a new iron. I did not look for something fancy in particular, but certain features were important to me. Those features were:
1. 2400 Watt of power or more. That will ensure that iron warms up fast and can sustain good steem rate
2. Teflon coated plate. So it won't stick to clot...Read more

Great performance punches above its weight
Fairly intuitive to use, the nicely balanced weight just right, control easy to use to the extent I felt like I had owned the iron before. I still wear long sleeve cotton shirts for business, so I use the iron daily also the kids prefer their non-iron school shirts looking neatly pressed with a steam iron!. Instructions tick the box, without really fully explaining the features, using infographics and illustrations is an inexpensive way to get the message across, not sure how effective it is for everyone, being tech/gadget savvy I just jump in ...Read more
and figured it out! Excellent steam performance complemented with the easy-glide soleplate with the provision for blasting extra steam for those big creases, very easy to use to get excellent results. The iron looks well made and I have no doubt should last the test of time, it certainly looks and feels more robust than the Phillips iron it replaced during this evaluation. Likes: good design, perceived build quality, quick warm-up, plenty of temperatures and steam controls, easy and familiar controls in everyday use, excellent performance in removing creases in dry cotton shirts on the first pass. Niggles: Power cord 85cm compared to 100cm with the Philips, this is a real problem for me as the ironing board used is quite long, so the cord is not long enough to reach the end of the board when ironing around the yolk of the shirt, I have to turn the ironing board 90 degrees to the plug to complete the job, water tank not big enough, I was surprised to run out of water after ironing two shirts, on looking closer, I measured the water tank capacity and established the Tefal tank contains a mere 300ml compated to 425ml with my old Philips.Similar opinion? Plenty of heat
These are two irons in for the price of one. Regular iron that heats up & the steamer for wrinkled clothes that has been hanging int he clost for months. The iron kicks up enomous amount of heat with 2400 Watt heat element inside. Recommend ironing non peak hours if you have a lot of ironing to do or if you are watching that electric metre dial spinning like your old record player. It's easy to operate. These days unless you have an app to iron this an instrument pretty much all of us have been exposed to watching our parents use on daily basis...Read more
. Open the steam compartment pour water into the steam container, If you open your tap on to slower drip it's easy not to get water all over. Plug the unit & let it heat for the desired material on you go. Due to non stickly telflon like coating on the bottom, it glides smoothly. Cool safety feature in case if you happen to be attention defecit, the unit turn itself off if you leave it on the base upright after 8 min or if you are crazy enough to leave it laying on its hot plate on top of your expensive cloths. Possibly that mistake won't leave you with a burnt toast like a pattern. Make sure to choose your clothing material selector button before you start. The heater setting is knob is easy to slide it to proper maertial settings. Couple features I like how easy it is to change temperature settings based on how wrinkly your clothes are. Pro tip: if you hang your clothes for ironing, just before you take a hot shower, I find it much easier to naviate in ironing & to take the wrinkles out. Fortunately this has plenty of steam coming from steam holes. It's continuous steam output of 50 g/minute produces quick and efficient resultss I haven't used the calcium depsoit tray or the anti scale tray as I do not have hard water in the area I live. Over time I am sure there will be sediment that can be easily removed. Compared to my 10 yr old iron this is a definitely improvement. These days I find more & more not ironing my clothes as I have dressed down to cotton clothing. Bonus from clothing companies also recognising that fewer of us are now ironing clothes due to material improvments. For those special occations when soceity wants you to look your best this may be the iron I recommend. The iron cord could have been bit longer by another half a metr or even better would be to have wireless / cordless iron. Two bad we haven't figured out a way to send 2400 Watts over WIFI yet, have a feeling in another 10 yrs we may be seeing that. Another cool feature is that this iron says it is made in France. The box say it is & the iron say it is made in France. Just FYI I do not have anything in my house that is not made in China so this may be the only item now from a European country.Similar opinion? A good product but for minor build quality issues.
Very stylish look - does what a steam iron is supposed to do. Comes up to selected temperature rapidly (and accurately) and does pump out volumes of steam - so I can understand the need for an Anti-Calc catcher to take out any residual Calcium build up (from hard water) from within the steam chamber. The Sole Plate has a very good surface, so should be very reliable and long lasting - but never put a scouring pad anywhere near it, no matter what happens to it. The broad triangulated base makes for a very stable platform to rest the iron in the ...Read more
upright position with the integrated power cable swivel mounting ensuring the cable (barely enough at 1.8m long) stays out of the way. This iron is weight bias to the front (even when filled with water) where as most others are balanced or slightly weighted to the rear - when parked on stand or cut out recess they are always front up so with the position of the Steam trigger making it more difficult to have to twist your wrist excessively to get the iron to the upright position and prone to accidentally hitting the steam trigger - may be an issue with people with delicate wrists and hours of continuous use. Be advised - If you had the Steam Selector ON previously then switched it to OFF there is still quite a few extra shots of steam available. The stand up triangulated base has quite a few mis-matched mating parts and sharp edges and it's mounting to the main body near the rear Calc-collector is not very rigid so don't drop it from the ironing board onto a hard floor. (I known drop tests are common with mobile phone manufacturers but maybe not with irons) The handle area also has several mis-matched mating parts, sharp corners and the Steam ON/OFF selector in front of the spray button is a very lose fit in it's recess. The temperature Auto-OFF sensor response seems to not be sure what it is supposed to do. I test it at maximum temperature setting. Turn it on - when it is up to temperature it turns OFF and then ON continuously to maintain the selected temperature - CORRECT. If you stop ironing but leave it face down - it turns OFF briefly (after a few seconds) then ON again briefly then OFF but then starts and continuously PULSES ON/OFF. and maintains some heat in the iron but never turns OFF. Enough residual heat to put a heat stain on an old nappy (yes still very useful after all these years) I used as a test piece for this issue. In the upright position - it turns OFF almost instantly then after after a few seconds it PULSES ON/OFF for a few more seconds, Then every 2 minutes the Power Light PULSES ON/OFF for 5 seconds until it reaches 8 minutes it starts and continuously PULSES maintaining some heat in the soul plate. At no stage (laid flat or upright) does it ever turn OFF permanently. I would need Tefal to tell me that's how it is meant to work. Their GUIDE suggests - OFF after 30 seconds when face down and 8 minutes OFF when upright. I might seem picky - but after 36 years in the White Goods and small Appliance manufacturing industries before my retirement, I look to different issues (other than Basic usage) than most other people - and yes, I bought up 2 kids so I know what to expect from an iron. In conclusion - YES it works very well - all the controls are easily accessible and in most part function correctly, has a good warranty, with some minor build quality issues but at the asking price I would guess there is better value available further down the Tefal range.Similar opinion? A few "wrinkles" need to be ironed out
When I first saw the picture of the Tefal iron on the box I was intrigued. From a design perspective, it's black and blue separating it from the competition. It's larger than your average iron covering more surface space reducing ironing time, and it has a turbo-boost steamer that forcibly removes stubborn wrinkles. Come to think of it, this is a man's iron.
As Tefal specialise in non-stick cookery, they're no stranger to combining non-stick materials to hot plates, so it's no surprise that this glides over fabrics smoother than Ben & Jerry's...Read more

The chore of ironing just became easier
I wouldn’t have thought that the technology of heat and steam to flatten material could have been improved so vastly but I think Tefal has done it with this steam iron.
No longer is the humble iron boring white – this one looks pretty modern in black and blue.
Our previous iron had a chrome sole plate whereas this one is kind of gun-metal grey and printed lines. Nice to look at when awaiting use but when it’s doing it’s job you won’t see the slick Duriuum Air Glide auto clean surface. Sounds fancy and maybe after years of service this wil...Read more
l hide the marks all irons seem to get. Instructions are a little confusing as it’s all illustrated. I can see what should be done and what should not be done. I would have thought that NOT ironing clothes while wearing them would be common sense as this appliance will work horizontally and vertically (good for dropping the creases from your suit or drapery while hanging). There’s a large opening for filling the ample reservoir of tap water. You’ll need to provide your own jug for this. When paying so much for this appliance you’d think they could provide a small jug perhaps. On the base there is a Calc collector – if your water causes appliances to clog.Similar opinion? Great iron, amazing glide
I'm a terrible ironer, and this iron makes me a pro. I first used it on my curtains and was so impressed I searched the house for other items to iron! I also missed a spot on the curtain and used the vertical steaming feature and it worked a dream.
It heats up really fast, it's got great safety features that actually work (30 sec when face down, 8 mins when upright) and when you're using it, it FEELS like it's working. On the hottest setting it puffs away like a steam train automatically as it measures how much steam it needs by the heat set...Read more
ting. My curtain creases didn't stand a chance. Hubby also had a go (and he never irons) and his first response was to pick up the box and exclaim "how's the glide! It's so smooth!" It's a solid design, really nice to hold in my tiny lady-hands and when you place it upright on it's end, the stand design feel solid and sure. I love the amount of water it holds, saves me running to the kitchen all the time to fill the tiny reservoir on my old iron and it hasn't dripped water anywhere during use. It also states on the box that it's a repairable product for 10 years. This is a big plus for me, I always purchase higher quality products as they last longer than all the cheaper options that end up in landfill, and I love that once this is out of it's 2 year warranty, it's still repairable. Nice one Tefal. So far I love it. Definitely worth the investment.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Powerful steam (great for tough creases) including “Turbo boost” steam
Vertical steaming (for curtains maybe? Not sure if we will use that?)

I own an FV5648 which I bought a few years back. In the last few months, while using the iron, the red pilot lamp starts flashing and the iron stops heating. This happens annoyingly at very regular intervals. The only way to get the iron going again is switching off the power (and takes a few attempts). I have to keep doing this a few times during an ironing session of say a hour. Very annoying. Does anyone know why this is the sase and how to resolve it permanently?

Either yourv ran out of water in the tank or it might need descaling
plenty of water in the tank; not sure about the descaling bit; the iron hasn't been used much after it was de-scaled previously; just wondering if it could be any other reason; hoping a tefal rep will be see this and respond
