    Deltsol control unit is poor

    published

Not sure how well it works as we were told to leave the off-peak power connected. Only when we had the roof tubes replaced, recently, following hail damage and were then advised to turn the power off, did we discover the control unit hadn't been working for many months (via electricity bill charges for off-peak).. I'd advise installing a passive circulation system, not one relying on Thermann's fancy electronics. Also, no response received yet to an email enquiry sent via their web site some 2 weeks ago.... . I guess we spend $280 + on a new controller. Not happy..

A product that is let down by it's poor quality electrics

    published

This product worked for us for 16 months until the electric controller failed and unfortunately the component only has a very short 12 month period and the manufacturer would not give any goodwill on the warranty. The Thermann could possibly be the best product on the market, however it is severely let down by a poor quality electrical controller.

We installed a 400L 44 tube system with propane backup on our farm house. Our experience has been fantastic. We originally had propane storage HWS and they were sending us broke. The Thermaan system has saved us a huge amount. we were purchasing gas aprox every 6 weeks and after the Thermaan install we didn't need to purchase LPG for over 18 months.
The only issue we had was the unit would boil on a long hot summers day.

    Doesn't seem to work

    published

Not quite sure what the issue is as when it was installed hot water was being generated on the roof. Our system has been installed for almost a year and looking over past electricity bills we have seen no savings at all. We have also noticed the hot water to our kitchen getting hotter and hotter and measured it at 70 °C tonight. Has anyone experienced anything similar?

Expensive to run and terrible service

    published

We had our hot water system replaced with a 340 litre Thermann solar tube electric boost system in 2015. In the last 12 months it has since been costing us an average of 10kwh a night to run on off peak... the old one was only using 5 kwh. We contacted the Reece agent that our plumber bought it through and to their credit have been trying to get an answer from the supplier which apparently is Apricus. They don't return phone calls, are anything but professional with their customer service, 2 weeks later and still waiting for a response from them.

Stay well away from Thermann and Apricas ..... expensive lesson learnt!!!!

Will be replacing it with another brand.

    Hi,
I live in NSW and have just bought a Thermann solar hot water system. Could you please advise what state and/or Federal government rebates I am entitled to.

    Hi Peter,

Thank you for your question. While Thermann works alongside the relative authorities for Solar Hot Water rebates, unfortunately we can't give advice on your specific rebate or eligibility. Each state has their own initiative so it is always best to consult with the relative authority.

This is a website that may help with your enquiry,

How can I turn the booster off? It's boosting at 4:20am and I think that is really taking away from the efficiency of the system since the sun would be heating the water just a couple of hours later (we tend to have showers mostly at night and I'm sure the temp would be sufficient if there were morning showers). Thanks!

We have a propane booster and we just turn of the power to it to stop it boosting. You should be able to do the same with the electic booster.

    Dear Apricus User,

The boosting methods are something that needs to be discussed with your electrician during installation.
There are 3 ways to boost your solar hot water service.
    1) Off peak
    2) Time of use (Continuous Tariff-not recommended for bottom element)
    3) Timer controlled.
You are correct that boosting your hot water service at 4am (Off Peak) is not the proper boosting method for you if you do not shower or use much hot water in the morning.
The water in your case has been heated by electricity overnight and will be completely hot when the sun comes out, no or little solar contribution will be had. And the cycle continues with little solar contribution.....Not the fault of the Solar Hot Water system, but fault of improper element connection.
What you need to do is have an electrician switch you from Off Peak and connect you to Time Of Use (Continuous Tariff) and fit a TIMER CONTROL so that YOU control when you boost.
I would recommend the timer be adjusted to a late afternoon boost to actually boost what the sun has not been able to do.
You can adjust this timer to suit your boosting needs perfectly.
You want to be trying to start the solar day with an almost cold tank, let the sun do ALL the work during the day.

Many non solar tanks are connected via off peak tariff, heating water during this low cost period, some had a twin element with a high element that will come on during the day if you need a top up.
Unfortunately some electricians don't discuss methods of element connection and do a simple disconnect / reconnect, as in your case.

Off Peak boosting can be ok if a family use a lot of hot water in the morning and leave home with a depleted tank.
It's important to ALLOW solar do all the work.

We all use hot water in different ways, which means our boosting patterns will also be different.
The timer method as I explained here is a good solution that will suit all customers, with the timer you can set it to your individual boosting requirements.

Please contact us on 1300 277 428 for more individual timer boosting advise.

We replaced heat pipes this year, was told anyone who bought a system in 2015 will have the same problem after the first year and all heat pipes from 2015 will fail. When we look at them they are all green with holes in them.

What is in the heat pipes and can it harm me?

Firstly who ever told you this is mistaken this is not the case. We had a small batch of heat pipes that did fail under stagnation and we are replaceing them. The heat pipes do not contain anything harmful in them. Where are you located and if you send me your number I will be more than happy to answer any additional questions.

    Chris

No I am not sure I am not mistaken. It came from the Apricus 1300 number and the plumber, anything installed 2015 . I told one of my friends they called up and got theirs replaced because it was installed in 2015
