Last brand I would come back for

published

Apparently the solution they offered to compensate your sim card stop working is to ask you to buy another one with their little discount. The customer service kept saying this is the best I can offer. Do not buy it!

Purchased in June 2021 at JB Hi-Fi for $399.00.

Absolute rubbish with antiquated 2G lifetime traffic updates

published

Almost a scam. I bought a couple of these for our business at around $550 a piece with the promise of lifetime traffic updates. These units were for sale when all Australian Network providers had advised us that they would be shutting down the 2G network. TomTom never mentioned that the units were 2G and who would even consider asking?? Seriously how do they get away with selling that in Australia?? Now the 2G network is gone and so is any live info available to the device! Also no bluetooth available on the device either just to seal the deal!!

Don't waste your money

published

This device is heavily promoted both on TV and in stores. We understood that it would be useful for guiding us while walking during our travels overseas. We found it to be useless because the battery lasts less than 1 hour even if fully charged overnight prior to use. We have been left stranded and lost due to the battery failure so you cannot depend on it. We sought help from the manufacturer for a recommendation on a suitable lightweight battery backup up but did not find there advice very helpful. My advice is look at other options

Trap for new players. Speed and safety alerts

published

Speed and safety alerts only work when you have programmed in a route and GPS is giving Nav directions. Totally stupid.
Get with the rest of the players.
You want the unit to remind you of cameras, etc. even on your daily commute.
Next you will be selling us a separate unit for that?

CAUTION: a total waste of money.

published

An expensive waste of money. Bought to replace a perfectly good 5" Tom Tom that has worked well. Assumed newer must be better. Every single function is worse than my previous model. The display is rubbish. I can't believe for the life of me why Tom Tom would launch something so sub-standard when previous models have been great.

Worth the effort to persevere

Expensive piece of crap - no stars if an option

published

So far complete rubbish. Can't even find my house, which has been in same place since 1992. Bought to replace older Garmin model (broken screen) which was far superior. Also says "Lifetime maps" but turns out they are not free. What a con! If JB HiFi won't replace this, I'll be buying a Garmin from someone else.

Nice unit, laggy interface

published

It's a really nice device in itself as it feels fairly high quality and looks fairly attractive. However, the software is terrible due to it's slow responsiveness and lack of features. Freezing may also randomly occur. Maps are also outdated with new development areas which completed 3 years ago do not show up. The traffic and speed cameras work great though.

Completely crap - maps are antique-dated

published

This is a crap. I bought this because of some good reviews. Now I would like to add to the true bad reviews.
The maps are not up to date, speed limits are also out-of-date in many rows. I submitted a speed-limit change report several months ago but the speed limit never ever changed since my submission. I contacted their technical support who said maps update are basically 3 monthly. But it's been more than 3 months now. Anyone who wants a speeding ticket are welcome to buy this crap.

Costly Disappointment.

published

After owning 7 tom tom units starting 15 years ago, the thought of upgrading to the latest 6" screen would be good, but say, compared to the old Go 2050 the 6100 is slow to start and respond. Not a user friendly control system. No Bluetooth hands free to use whilst hiring other cars. Limited Map Colours along with other controls. Try programming POI, rest areas, ect. Lack of differing Warning sounds. Weather Report information. 6" Upgrade to do what. Complete wast of premium money. Did Expect Much Better.

Tom Tom Maps

published

I paid TOMTOM for map-update; first FOUR addresses either had wrong directions or TOMTOM could not find the addresses that had been around for 2 years! TOMTOM staffer politely thanked me by e-mail for my advise, but did nothing. I believe maps supplied by Sensis, so TOMTOM getting poor maps.

don't buy TomTom.. well they probably all made in the same Factory

Lots of promise but little substance.

published

I love the live traffic updates (when they work!. That is all I love.
The unit is let down by Tomtom's refusal to allow custom POI's to be shown in the map. My eight year old Tomtom allowed this. If you are touring, you might want to know where rest stops and free camps, etc. are located. Forget it if you have a latest generation Tomtom.

Many people on Tomtom's user forum are upset and Tomtom will not give a straight answer to them. Avoid this thing..
Do a search for tomtom and discussions.. read and learn!

My Tomtom 6100 tells me I am doing 5KM less than I am actually doing
How can I correct this ?

GPS speeds are the most accurate and have a 1% tolerance so if your GPS device shows that you are doing 100km/h then that means you are doing between 99 to 101 km/h. Your car on the other hand takes its speed from mechanical means so even if you change your wheel or tyre size from the original ones then your speed will be different to what your speedometer shows. The other thing is that car manufacturers calibrate the speedometer in the factory showing about 4-5km less then what you are actually doing. This means when your GPS shows that you are doing 100km/h then more than likely your speedometer will show around 95-96km/h and your GPS is the correct one. I have owned quite a few new cars and GPS devices and the same discrepancy was evident every time as I described it above.

I agree that a GPS is likely to show the correct speed but most factory speedos that I have come across show a speed of about 5km/h more than the actual speed of the vehicle, not less?

What is maximum stop available in Go 6100?

I am not sure what you mean. You should be able to get that from the product specifications. If you are talking about poi's, then I would say that nobody knows - even tomtom.
