Disappointed.
I Bought my mower from Bunnings on the 12 of July 2022. So approximately ten weeks old as of this month (September 2022) I have only used it twice due to the dry weather we have experienced lately. The grass is not growing and is brown. I went to use it yesterday the 28th of September, 2022 to tidy up straggly bits on the lawn and the back wheel fell off. It was not a cheap mower and for the price, I would have expected more. When I bought the mower I was assured it was an excellent mower, strongly built and of good quality. Apparently, It had...Read more
won an award I was told. I am less than impressed and it just not acceptable at all that there should be any issues with it in this space of time. My lawn is well kept Buffalo grass. My block is very clean.Purchased in July 2021 at Bunnings Warehouse for A$800.00.

Not a great mower for Australian grass, moving it around is a pain
Hi All, had a victa and decided to move to a self propelled - this one came highly recommended but on 1st use it conked out requiring a restart at least 4-5 times mowing medium length Sir Walter grass.. i suspect the blades are too long for the powerplant and even though the grass was around 6cm high, it couldn't cope, so i had to lift it..
having said that my old mower did it too but it was 1/2 the cost. the self propel is also really goofy - pulling the mower backwards is a pain and moving/pushing it around (from backyard to front on a concrete driveway) when it's not started is really really painful. i couldn't find any release mechanism.
it's on ebay at the moment - i regret buying it and wouldn't again.
Purchased in April 2021 at Bunnings Warehouse for A$800.00.

I’ll never be buying anything from Toro again !!!
I visited my local Toro distributors and discussed a mower that would be okay to use on my property.
Just under 1000 dollars was spent with the assurance it would do the job.
I live on 2 acres with the lawn mower expected to do no more than about 300 meters.
Within the first 3 months in for repair..
Appears the belt decided to get snagged in the pulley housing.
Self drive stopped working.
Repaired and off we went again..
This item works in a straight line..
Heavy to manoeuvre, and appears not to like being pulled backwards!!
Wheels sound terrible when pulled back and the second time within 10 months back in.....Read more

Mows well, but needs better belt protection.
This lawn mower mows very well. It does not like thick wet grass and will stall because you can't adjust the revs. The AWD system is great when it is working. Due to the lack of protection for the belts, it will throw any small sticks into the V drive pulleys causing the belts to jam or break. My rear belt snapped on the fourth time I used the mower. It would pay to make sure that the lawn is completely debris free prior to mowing and then you probably will not have a problem.
Purchased in November 2021 at Bunnings Warehouse for A$834.00.

Good Buy
This is a top lawn mower and the 4WD is really good feature.
I use only the mulcher option as it does this well.
This would be be a heavy mower to push around if it didn't have the 4WD feature but it has. Keep in mind it does a 22 inch cut and gets the job done with ease.
I would have no hesitation in buying the mower again but I would look at the new one which has power reverse also.
This would be the best mower I have owned.

Its not a lawnmower, its a beast of a lawnmower.
Have a large area to cut so I am glad I made the choice of buying the Toro 22 inch personal pace mower. Really was going to buy a Victa or a Honda and after reading reviews was extremly turned off from those brands. All reviews were very similar so didnt want to take the chance. So glad i didnt buy the Victa thunder( shocking reviews) and the Honda isnt the same Honda like it was years ago. The Toro really did start on first pull. Also the personal pace is really great. If you walk faster it mows fasts, when you slow down it slows down witg you...Read more
r pace too. One thing I would have loved if they just made it easier to use the adjusting handle when you want to change the height of grass you want, the Victa thunder has great handles when it comes to that. However I can live with that. I initially wanted to spend about $500, but when you see what you are gettimg for that sort of money its better spending another $300 and getting a lawnmower that will perform and last many many years.Similar opinion? Perfect for what I was after
I hadn't heard about this mower but was looking for a self-propelled model and was only considering a 2-wheel drive system. I have a steep block so when I got on to the AWD model I was keen to look at it. Having since purchased one I'm absolutely stoked with it! I didn't want a ride-on for safety reasons but the area I cover with this mower is quite large and I do it with ease.

Second one in 12 years
Having had a 2006 self pacer 22 inch recycler for over 11, trouble free years, I didnt hestiate to update.my old model with the new AWD. Briggs & Stratton motor. Smaller than the Tecumche motor but just as powerful, if not more. The new model is excellent and has several better features than the older model;better catching capability, lever operating mulcher, better cables. One thing in common though, they start first time. Looking forward to another 11 plus years of trouble free mowing

Great buy.
Hi, I've recently sold my personal pace Toro as I've moved to a smaller block of land that's flat, But when I was living up in the hills I would never have mowed the lawn if it wasn't for the self propelled personal pace Toro . Briggs and Stratton motor, very quiet for the amount of power and and inlet for a water hose for convenience of cleaning the blades.. it had a slasher option and a huge canvas catcher that folds to save on storage.wish I hadn't sold it now but it went to a good home...

Excellent Mower, important that you keep fuel fresh, but well worth the effort.
The Toro Personal Pace mower is excellent. Although the price is a bit higher than other models the self propelled function works excellent and changes speed based on your walking speed. The mower allows me to cut my grass in half the time of my old mower, and i dont end up exhausted. You can carry a drink and mow.+++
The engine is self adjusting, meaning no choke or fuel priming is required and it starts perfectly every time.
I did have a non-starting condition but after getting in touch with Toro I was advised to ensure the fuel was fresh ...Read more

Pretty good so far
OK so I've only had it for two days, but I've mowed my lawn and its done a brilliant job. I also have a large block (1400sqm), and a good deal of it is sloped at about 12 to 15 degrees, so an unpowered mower has always been a challenge. The Toro AWD literally pulls me up the hill. I love the instant start of the Briggs & Stratton engine (who said only Hondas could do that). I just hope it will be still that easy to crank over after 5 years. The 22" cut makes for a quick(er) job than what I used to endure with the old Victa. I tried all 3 cu...Read more
tting modes - Catch, Mulch, Rear Discharge and Side Discharge. All performed brilliantly. Rear discharge is a bit tough on your legs for obvious reasons so it probably wont get much use. Four negatives: * Its a little noisier than I was hoping for - in fact its VERY noisy (ear muffs required) * The Catcher bag is a little small for the size of the mower * The Catcher bag has a mesh fabric construction. It as somehow been assembled with an internal pocket that gathers cuttings between two layers of fabric and makes for very difficult cleaning. * Height adjustment requires setting all 4 wheels independently. I can see where you might want different settings from front to back but not left to right. I think a better solution would be to have a front height control and a rear control, but not 4 separate levers. All relatively minor but if it wasn't for these things, it would have received a 5 rating. Would I buy it again? You bet! No questions asked. It would be nice if those things were addressed though.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Best mower I've ever used
So after doing a lot of research I decided to take the plunge and spend $900 on this 22" self propelled Toro. I was also looking at the Aussie market Honda but the price ($1700) and the lack of a side chute discharge turned me towards the B&S powered Toro. So far I'm absolutely blown away by how easy it starts, how powerfully it mows, and how convenient the self propelled system is. My block is 1300m2, and half of it is quite severely sloping. The all wheel drive system literally drags me up the hill and has cut my mowing time in half. I've fo...Read more
und there are a lot of reviews for old or discontinued models sold at bunnings, the model I have is the AWD. If you're looking at mowers, do yourself a favor and look at the AWD sold at Toro dealers, it's only slightly more expensive than the bunnings models. I'll update this post in a year or two or if I have any problems.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

It seems to be the way with a lot of reviews. I think the quality is just not what it used to be and getting worse with most products these days.

G'day Mitch - _ its been a year since you posted. Do you still feel the same about your mower? I have a 1425sqm block and also have quite a bit of sloping ground so my situation is similar. I had thought about a John Deere but they dont get a good review here.
How has your Toro been the last 12 months?
Regards
Peter

Hi Peter! Still totally happy with the Toro. I took it in for a yearly service a few months ago (couldn't be bothered doing it myself), but have had no problems at all. Starts easy every time, and has gone through everything I've thrown at it. I use the side chute on larger areas (a lot of comparable mowers didn't have a side chute), it's a lot easier than emptying the catcher frequently, or using the mulcher function all the time (which apparently is bad for your grass if overdone?). Couldn't recommend it more!
Thanks Mitch - Its all pointing toward a Toro purchase this weekend. I'll go and see them for a test drive. I appreciate your input.
