Camry 1998 if looked after goes forever. Greatest budget car.
1998 camry csi v6. Brought the car very cheap for a low mile log book serviced car. After 150000 km and 6 years of hassle free driving this car is the best I ever owned. Very cheap to service and maintain if you know basic mechanics. The paint on all darker painted camry have faded but at 21 years old that's ok.
Purchased at Side of road for $800.00.

Love my Camry - can’t imagine life without it
A workhorse, I’ve had it for just over two years and it’s done 96k and hasn’t skipped a beat! Travelling city and remote, it’s a smooth drive and goes when it needs to.
Purchased in July 2021 at Toyota Dealers for $15,000.00.

great car
bought car 2nd owner with only 155k's on it in late 2017.
Had been mostly mechanically looked after with the shocks and p/s pump needing replacing ( common problem with leaking ) at that stage.
Once did those things and sway bar mounts for good measure now a great car to drive, smooth auto, comfortable, powerful when needed and for the V6 3.0L happy with the fuel economy. ( around 10.5L/100k's city ).
Handles very nicely, a/c still works a treat.
Typical sagging roof lining now though, oh well, only cost me $1600 to buy, didnt care. Nothing som...Read more
e thumb tacks dont fix. Parts are still very easy to come buy and quite reasonable in cost. Still see many of this model Camry around so not bad for a 20 year old car. Will drive it till it dies as decent reliable second hand cars are becoming rarer due to manufacturers build quality fading out over last few years.
Purchased in November 2021.

Touring wagon is an everlasting gem
Every once in a while there was an amazing car loved by all. The touring wagon was the Darling of the Camry Mvc20 range. Simply utterly dependable and good looking to boot. Toyota made the best wagon for the masses, galvanized body and all. They just don't rust like the commodores and falcons. 1MZ engine is smooth, powerful and when well serviced can do well over 350K no worries at all. Regular oil changes is the key. Only real issues with them are the suspension tower bushes front and rear, cam timing belts are expensive to change and do the w...Read more
ater pump too above 200K. Cooling fluid tanks corrode (plastic) and front brakes need regular checks. Otherwise, drive and enjoy. Had 5 of them and loved them all, manual or auto. Super good cars, typical Toyota reliability.Purchased in January 2021 for $16,000.00.

Quentissential from A to B car.
Bought mine at 200,000 (3L 1mz v6) So far, Its up to 270,000. Absolutely no issues. Comfortable car to drive and extremely reliable. I have used any old oil to date and only performed common everyday maintenance.
Somewhat of a boring vehicle if you are looking for a Paul Walker experience.
Good points are that its reliable, decent on fuel, solid vehicle, alot of space etc.
Bad points, a tad boatish, and can be a really boring car at times when you see people fly past in sports cars and the like.

Best car in the world
I bought a 1999 Camry manual for $1,500 with 255,000 on the odo and I Use it for short city drive and long highway drive and never misses a beat. It’s my everyday commute. I Change the oil and oil filter with 5w30 semi synthetic every 6,000km and engine is like butter so smooth. Bought 2 tyres for the front from a wreckers for $25 each including the rims. Ac is cool as ice and heater is warm in winter. If anyone wants 2 cars in a family, the 2nd car should definitely be a Camry as it is 100% reliable and long lasting. My wife has Holden Barina 2009 hatchback which has 1000 problems one after another but my cheap and old Camry is there on my good days and my worst days by my side.

Magnificent
My 2002 Camry CSI Advantage with manual transmission has now exceeded 725000 kms. (yes you read that correctly) It drives as quietly and smoothly as the day I purchased it and has cost relatively little to run. On the freeway under cruise control, it can actually achieve 900kms on the 70 litre tank of cheap E10. I have just replaced the clutch but only because the engine had to be dropped to replace a leaking rear main oil seal. The clutch was perfectly good with no slippage or shudder. Cheap tyres last over 100,000kms and brake pads a s...Read more
imilar distance. The upholstery does not a have a single tear in it though like all examples of this model, the roof lining has collapsed. If one is not concerned with the aesthetic, a staple gun will fix this problem. In short, the best, most reliable and comfortable car I have ever owned. When it finally dies, I will simply buy another which should see me out. (I'm 69)Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Toyota Camry for sale 2001 excellent condition 152,000 on the clock
My Toyota Camry is in excellent condition it runs smoothly and for the first 4 years was serviced by Toyota since then by Ultra Tune but I feel I am getting too old and frail to drive her any more sadly. It has never let me down apart from a new battery from RACQ twice.

Good first car
Second-hand car that has been in the family for quite some time now. This was one of the cars that I learnt how to drive in, and a car I'd consider a good 'first car' for new drivers. For quite an old car, I think the driving experience is quite good. It performs well, however going up hills, I can feel the car struggle a little.

Bought new - Very smooth & bulletproof engine
Good points:
1.Amazing engine. Make sure you service it properly. I've done 330,000 kms and it runs as well as the day I bought it new. Super silky V6. 8 litres per 100 on open road and 11-12 per 100 around town.
2.Large boot.
3.Awesome Arctic air-conditioning. Townsville cabbies say this model had the best air-con.
4.Comfortable cruisey drive
A couple of negatives which preclude 5 star rating:
1.Hood liner went early like many other reviewers have said. Same thing on 3 mates cars.
2.Door trim falls off shortly after head liner. A reflection on poor Aussie workmanship.
3.Filmsy flippy door handles.

Amazing Car!
I have '99 Camry Wagon CSI. Bought it last year when she had over 250k on the clock. This is one of the best cars I've ever had - reliable, very comfortable and quite economic on fuel. It's definitely not a fancy car, but it does its job very well. During 12 months of using it i replaced the brake pads and wiper blades :) This is why I like old Toyotas :)

XV20 set a benchmark for everyone to follow
Have two XV20 V6 Camries (MY2000 and MY2002, both sedans) from new. The 2000 model has passed over 405k km (serviced every 20k km, fuel - E10 exclusively) - it only had front end bearing and caliper replaced. It developed no mechanical (normal wear and tear; consumables) or major electrical faults (ABS light lit up but ABS brakes function as should). The 2002 model had an ignition pack replaced at 170k - nothing else (20k km service intervals, E10 fuel). Looked at XV30, XV40 and now at XV50 series - and see no pressing reasons to upgrade. Also had 4 cylinder MY1999 Camry but found it of poor fuel economy and dynamics. Our V6s return 8.2-8.4 l/100 highway, 9.5-10.5 l/100 city. Will keep both of them to the days end.

Love it. 1999 V6 CSi (MCV20R) wagon
I absolutely love this car. Bought in 2010 with 116K on clock, owned 5 years now and done ~ 10K / year. Have driven it on a 3 month road trip camping around Australia. I recently drove a hire car (brand new Audi) and I prefer my old Camry!
This car is super quiet and comfortable. Picked up my brother from the airport and he thought it had an electric engine it is so quiet. Excellent at cruising on highways, very stable and feels safe.

parking meters, cup holders, rear armrest has slide-out cup holders, cargo cover in the back, etc. Things you need to look out for when buying one of these Camrys: most common faults I know of are central locking failure (our passenger door is on the blink, worse if parked under hot sun (!?)), and problems with the retractable aerial. I got this fixed, but see a lot of Camry's with the aerial permanently up as it doesn't go down like it should when cutting the engine. Oil leakage from rear rocker covers also common, but my mechanic not too concerned about this. Bit of a cow to drive around town. Acceleration is nothing to write home about, but switch on the cruise control on the highway and it will whip it up hills past everyone else, even fully loaded. I chose the V6 for this reason to give me that extra power.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Best car ever own
Bought my Camry wagon made March 2002 (36,000 km) from an auction in 2004. After 13 years, it still feels like driving a new car. I had it serviced yearly by my local mechanic (cost average $300-400) and so far the timing belt was the only replacement made (at 152,000 km). I disabled the auto aerial because it got stuck and let it settle on it highest level. Apart from that, nothing needed replaced or repaired. The driving was so smooth and quiet that I didn't get tired as much on a long trip as my previous cars. There is a small amount of oil leak but then that is quite acceptable for me after so many years.
Pity, I can't get a new Camry wagon today.

GOOD ALLROUNDER
I have a 4cyc auto sedan with about 200km on it. With 12,000kms done in the time I have owned it the only problems have been for... Wheel balancing, bulbs for front parkers, one brake light and auto selector. The worst problem was removing the ignition lock to cure it of being sometimes hard to turn. Take the unit out yourself for a $35 locksmith fix, minus the $125 call out fee. Reference you-tube for hints. The car had been converted to autogas and with that drivability has not suffered at all, though power loss is there. Economy on gas is s...Read more
till good even with higher autogas prices. Overall the Camry has a smooth transmission, great brakes, and good power steering either at parking speeds or highway cruising. Another plus would be excellent headlights for brightness and beam width. Don't forget the extra cold air con. A GOOD MEDIUM SIZED CAR.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Very happy
Similar experience my 1998 has 175km on clock and has been very reliable and comfortable to drive. I had electrical problems with the windows at one stage and sagging material on roof and doors but as for major work, nil. I've just bought a big 8 seater people mover and I'm trying to convince my husband to sell his old ute so we can keep the Camry because the thought of letting a reliable, low cost car slip through my fingers is causing separation anxiety!!!

Maulin P.asked
I have Toyota Camry 2001. Is it possible to fit toe bar from this model to 1998 model ??
Thanx
3 answers
You should be able too,but for better answers ring a towbar installer in your area if your in Adelaide ring Allin Towbars there on Richmond Road,Richmond
Yeah, I'm with sticky. Same model from 97-92 so it should. Supposedly different from wagon to sedan but unconfirmed. Again check with an installer who can give you new bolts etc for the install. You will have to drill 2 holes if they aren't there already.
How do I turn off please obey all traffic regulations

How do you change the remote battery in the key fob? This key fob does not have a small screw in the back.
2 answers
the key fob splits in half if you use a small flat screwdriver and insert it carefully in the join and wiggle it should split into two, job done.
These key fobs can reasonably be repaired by anyone with a soldering iron and some parts from jaycar. Buy a button cell backing holder PCB Mount with opposite pins and a 2032 button cell lithium type.
Open case carefully using a flat blade screwdriver around the key ring attachment point. It will crack open but use less rather than more force to pry it open. Desolder the battery by locating the two large solder points on the PCB. Replace with the new button cell holder you bought in the same positive/negative configuration.
Get a 25mm hole saw and drill out the back of the key fob at where the battery sat. 25 works best for the new battery holder. Put the case back together with new battery installed. Just put some black electrical tape around it hold it together. Or use some large heat shrink around it all.
Next, get online and find programming instruction for new key fobs for 97 to 02 Camry's svx20 or mvc20. Perform that instruction and you are in business. New battery changes are then very easy.

I have an 01 2.2 wagon with 290000 K's. Overall a very reliable old bird, but with some annoying minor faults. Can anyone suggest a fix for the driver side windscreen wiper arm slapping into the roof pillar on full stroke, especially on high. I have tried adjusting the arm on the spindle to the point just back from where it snags the passenger side arm, but no matter how far I adjust it, it hits the pillar quite hard. Is this just wear in the motor or is there another fix I can try?
2 answers
At the base of the wiper there should be some adjustment screw(s) that may need a tweak.
Replace the drivers side with thinner Trident brand complete wiper assembly. Thicker and newer blade style ones don't work; they tend to bang on the windscreen plastic side trim. I've done it and hey presto no noise. I left the passenge blade style as is.
