The ride in a 2017 Hiace like a bronco
I am a tradie who has plenty in the back of this fairly new Hiace ( 2017 ), I have asked the official toyota service dept if there is something wrong with the suspension . Im told it all checks out and is fine .... I drive the Adelaide roads all day and it feels like a motocross track unless Im on a very new freeway type of road, yes we have a couple of these roads here but the normal roads are not helping my plight . Every bump, every imperfection in the bitumen goes through the van like Í'm on solid rubber tyres . They specify 48psi in t...Read more
he tyres, forget that for a start if you run 48 prepare for a WORSE than I'm describing . I run 38psi and it may help. Pedders say they can upgrade the suspension for $1000 but I dont think it will help with the comfort . The bone rattler may be ok with just ping-pong balls in the back. I am trading it for a cab chassis .Purchased in June 2021 for $29,000.00.

Really scary and uncomfortable
Had to use this when Ford Transit Custom was being serviced. Only ok for short drivers, cabin space - headroom and foot space very cramped, moves around heaps - in a scary way in the wind. In the wet the steering is where you hope to go - you might go somewhere else though. Its just bad. Boss likes reliability but transit has 300,000km with no problems. Hiace also uses far more fuel.

Most uncomfortable van on the market
My employer changed my van from a Renault traffic to a brand new Hiace. Now I want to get a different job as I have a 1 hr commute. It’s hard to get in and out off. It’s the most uncomfortable van. Noisy, it sounds like a tractor. I feel so unsafe, I am squashed into the front bumper.
I have no room for anything in the cab.
It’s not very economical either. It’s like an example of how not to make a van.
Worst van I’ve ever had

Perfect for our work!
When looking around we needed a van that fit our medium sized containers and found at the dealer this was the best option. Many years later we have only had to get a few things fixed and services come back good almos all the time. The only small issue is we had to replace the side sliding door handle twice but we do use it a lot!

Great work companion!
Runs like a clock, shifts like a dream! Very basic interior but has everything u ever need. Got it brand new 2 years ago. Has done nearly 50k without any issue whatsoever! Drive around Sydney everyday, always carry heavy load for work. Petrol auto 12.6L/100km. Cost a bit more to run than the diesel but also more refined. A very satisfied purchase! A very reliable workhorse!

Decent van for the price
I have a 2016 Hiace LWB van, its been nothing but reliable. Not a single problem, noise or concern.
I've just clocked up 30 000km in the first year and Im happy.
Rides well - considering its a commercial* mines always loaded up as its a work van.
I have the petrol auto model. Auto is the smooth and it has plenty of power.
Fuel usage is good, not great but it does carry a lot in the back.
It was purchased form Grand Motors Toyota. The salesman was super easy, didn't push all the extras on me.
Overall, very happy with my Toyota.

Perfect for Van Rental
Good Torquey diesel Van. Untouchable reliability track record. Vast, versatile load area.Great visibility. The Toyota Hiace van with a Sunliner conversion delivers all of that. The fit out is of high quality and all the safety features are there.
CONS:
• Age is starting to show - inside and out.
• Not the easiest to climb in and out.
• Cab forward layout means more engine noise creeps in.

The the vans from GoGet - awesome vehicle
I don't own a HiAce, but I one at least once a month through GoGet. Mostly it's to transport stuff from Ikea, but last month I moved house and it was a lifesaver. I was only moving from one sharehouse to another, so it wasn't a full house worth of stuff, but it fit everything that I needed to move.

Living the dream
I wanted a vehicle that I could both drive around everyday and lock in my garage at night as well as go away in it on weekends and for longer holidays and for it to be my accommodation. The Toyota Hiace van with a Sunliner conversion delivers all of that. The fit out is of high quality and all the safety features are there. You can add some optional extras. I added a bull bar, a shower head to plug into the water tank and an annex to throw over the tail gate.

Great if you're a gymnast
Toyota reliable of course, however you may need to take some lessons in gymnastics to prepare yourself to get in and out of the seat, there is a step but I’m thinking that might be for a miniature chihuahua to get in and out, so apart from the ridiculous entry and the uncomfortable and stiff suspension that jars your body it’s ok.

Toyota V VW customer care and service.
I have previously written reviews for a series of VW Vans bought new, a 2000 Caravelle and a 2010 Multivan. Both had significant problems, the 2000 model Auto failure and others with VW not interested in supporting their product, a $6000 repair. This is reflected in the value of these vans now 60 k + new to a few thousand now. Multivan problems and arguments instead of any assistance from VW.
So I swapped to a far less comfortable but very well considered Hi Ace Van in 2012. It s now outside its warranty but recently Toyota found potential pro...Read more

Stupid thing always gets stuck (bogged) every time it rains
I'm so over it honestly every time it rains and you go on a tiny bit of grass you get bogged. Stupid thing should have a lsd and released with decent tyres. Other then that I guess it serves its purpose well except the radio buttons are stupidly big on the steering wheel.

new diesels are the go
had 2012 lwb hiace diesel turbo manual from the showroom floor. 4 years courier driving use in city traffic. never had a single problem. just servicing and new tyres was the only maintenance done during the 4 year's. traded it in with 120,000km for a new one. november 2016 build, lwb diesel manual. new ones have had traction control added, cruise control, steering wheel now has radio controls, no 3rd seat in front - more of a centre console with drink holders and slots for paperwork. disel engine is now fitted with a diesel particulate filter system also. much improved instrument cluster. love these vans.

Reliable vans
We love these vans! Very reliable, cheap to run. 1998 model has 600k and has had one engine rebuild, 2003has been services once/year, 2013 vans are going like champions. They go all over towns as tradie vans and are great to drive. Wish they made a really big van like the Mercedes sprinters.

Love the van but....
I have driven Toyota Hiace vans for 6 years now. Full time.
A 2010 model which I had till 180,000klm then the company traded it in and then was put into a 2013 model which was bought brand new.
I have thrashed these vans mercilessly. I have to admit I am a lead foot and these vans are great fun. I have only encountered one problem with the newer van. And this was before I took hold of it. Someone else in the company drove it for the first 3000klms. He is very soft on the pedal. It needed the water pump replaced. A crack in it Toyota said. W...Read more

Trusty Toyota? Not anymore!
I have 2011 Hiace, automatic brand spanking new from Toyota dealer, first the wind screen like an egg shell, just less than a cm pebble can crack the screen easily. Then the ABS brake was way to sensitive, on bumpy road it hardly to stop. Then after 1 year the water in the fuel indicator turn on, then I try the suggested action which displayed on the door instruction by Toyota, the light still on. Bring to Toyota, they say they can fix that with $300 cost, I bring to my own mechanic and replaced the filter cost only $150 an fixed! It sensor just...Read more
too annoying. And now when I drive nearly 100km/h up, every times i push the accelerator the car made a vibration and noise like you riding a boat in choppy water. Almost impossible to make conversation in the cabin or listening to the radio. I bring to my mechanic he say its diff problem! Oh my god only 86000 km it already have diff problem! Why I should buy this expensive brand spanking new car while it giving me problem like this! Before I bought second hand Jap import Nissan Caravan with 107000 km on the odometer, till more than 500000 km it never have diff and any annoying problem like this. I serviced this Toyota regularly according to service manual! For a courier contractor like me, this Toyota is not acceptable at all. Not like that old model Hiace van. Shame on you Toyota. Before I trust you, respect you, not anymore. Many other drivers have some more different problems with this new model Toyota. And all going to Toyota dealer service, schedule perfect. Oh one more the heat from the engine bay under driver seat sipping like a heater! It is brand new??? Not too economical, still use Cam Belt, Air Con not cold, Easy crack windscreen, Annoying ABS, Annoying fuel filter sensor, Diff problem, and what will come next???3 comments
So other Toyota owner please beware, don't generalize, not all Toyota created equal!
It has a noise from T belt after 35,000kms.but that noise will'nt become after long journey.so be careful about it!!

Expensive,boring but reliable
Had a 05 model Hiace d4d which I owned for 4 years had well over 280k when traded it in.The 150k timing belt service is expensive (cost over $2000) they didn't even replace the water pump and at 190k it developed a loud screeching noise.Took it to the dealer, big mistake ($3000) service advisor would ring up everyday trying to convince me to replace items that didn't need replacing.(c!:khead)
At the end the diesel injectors went bad and I didn't want to spend $4000 replacing them.Van still drove well but sluggish and noisy.traded on a 2012 d...Read more
4d Hiace which is pretty much identical to the 2005 model except for the 100kw 3lt motor. This van has a reasonable amount of power and is easy to drive.Handling is pretty bad compared to the ILoad but you can't expect much from the cab over design.Has a nice stereo with Bluetooth mp3 voice recognition etc i also like the fixed price servicing they offer which cost $170 for the first 60k.Overall this vehicle is pretty good but it cost over $40 000 New,and compared to a 2005 model it's pretty much the same.should have chose something different. Stereo, power, fixed price servicing. Expensive, boring could have updated it more.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

was thinking about getting one and converting it into a camper of sort just a bed and storage and that but also want to use it as my everyday too, only got a 20 min drive to work
what do you guys rekon fuel or diesel? and are there any outher faults or things like that i should know about?
3 answers
Depends on your distance, the petrol only comes in a 2 litre and diesel 3.0 turbo ZL model.
20 mins to work then round 30 min home
But will obviously be travelling further on weekends and such
I am considering the exact same thing with maybe a commuter or SLWB. Interested to know about parts and costs to compare to other, and also weighing up diesel and petrol.
