Dusted engine
70000 km in and engine showed signs of dusting ( dust getting past the air filter and causing wear on the internals eg pistons and turbos ) left turbo blew and was told was a problem with the injectors . Replaced them at my own cost and problems continued .
Purchased in April 2021 for $90,000.00.

Dusted motor 200 series
My 200 series got a dusted motor at 145000 km I replaced the motor no help from Toyota said it was fine for some dust to pass the filter
The new motor has been in for 20000 km and dust problem continued I had to replace the air box with an aftermarket one and also put a snorkel on glad to say that 100% solved the problem

Big car big budget
I'm unusual here as I have the 2012 petrol V8. I must say I'm quite impressed with the refinement I have only had the car 3 months but travels over 7000kms thus far over the holiday break. I was a bit worried about the petrol motor being very thirsty, but I really should not have been I can easily get 12L per 100 on freeways and city I think around the 15L which is only 2L more per 100 kms than the diesel.
Overall the car feels solid and the petrol engine is renowned for its reliability so should get 300,000 to 400,000kms without major expense.

Great driving experience
Awsome driving experience, quiter than I thought, great steering, excellent on and off road, plenty of space inside, there is nothing to dislike about the interior, easy to clean, and very comfortable for the whole family, it fits everything we need for everyday life or when we go for trips and very affordable running costs, i wish I bought it earlier.
Purchased in January 2021.

Sahara nothing but the best
We are super impressed with the 2012 Sahara we bought from Carsales a month ago we are the second owners. It rides beautifully and handles extremely well. The interior is very luxurious with lovely cream leathered seats. It has lots of room to move and I love the quality of the stereo sound. Considering its a V8 turbo diesel she runs like a dream and is excellent on fuel we were pleasantly surprised. We also like the Engel fridge plug provided in the back it’s very handy for us. We really are happy with it so far it’s a fantastic vehicle it’s very suitable for our needs.

Great to tow with
Very plain in side doesn't come with the extras that other brands have over priced in today market very old technology and fuel consumption is at least very high should bring back the 6 cyclinder turbo diesel much better on fuel and eazyer to work on leaves more room around engineering to add the extras.

My third Cruiser: Not perfect but still awesome.
I own a 1998 4 speed 100 series back at home and i just picked up a 2010 LC 200 in the UK. The 200 feels a lot more car like with a lot less body roll and a quicker engine. i don't tow so cant compare the towing performance but I somehow feel the 100's engine is a lot quieter and more refined. Since I own a Jap spec 100 probably one of the first lot to roll off the production floor that vehicle even after 18 years is super silent and for some reason the body also feels a lot stronger as compared to a flimsier quality of the 200, the Tail gate f...Read more
or example. The urban mileage is nearly the same in both vehicles. So far I've had a problem with the blower fan motor and the rear gate lock, both of which have been replaced free of cost within warranty. Other than that it is very reliable as its meant to be and I love it! Definitely a keeper if you can afford one.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Great vehicle
I bought this car new in 2008.
So far very little issues and only normal maintenance has been required.
LC200 is a significant refinement over the 100 Series.
Very comfortable and capable tourer.
Heaps of power for towing and overtaking.
Petrol is a little thirstier than the diesel is a real please to drive and is very low fatigue on long distance trips.
KDSS suspension really increases the the off road ability of this vehicle.
Availability of after market parts is fantastic....Read more

put it through a HiLux test, rivers, mountain tracks, mud. As good as old Lux miles better in comfort and
just as economic even with the v8. A must have. The SUV that all the others want to be.

Good .... and Bad vibrations
In the past I have owned a 40 and 80 series Land Cruiser. This one is a 200 series VX V8 diesel. Overall it is a good vehicle with plenty of power and some comforts.. After 105000klms I feel I am qualified to say a few things about it. Best thing is the engine. In previous diesel models you would spend all day stirring the gearbox to get anywhere. With this V8.. forget all that. The world is flat !.
Biggest and continuing gripe is the vibration that is felt in the steering wheel at 1700-2100 rpm no matter what gear or speed. Toyota spent a fe...Read more

est of all, it is one VERY handsome Car. With to many extras and creature comforts to list. I am putting a Diesel chip in for even more driving pleasure.Careful with that chip. Research your decision. You may end up ruining CV joints and transmission components.

200 series
We love our V8 diesel 200 series, have previously owned the 80 and 100 series and had each for 8-10 years, all have been fantastic reliable cars. Great for towing and off-road. Once you get used to the size of the vehicle it's quiet easy to park, we live in a rural area and find it easy to drive around town, although I don't think it would be suited for everyday city use.
Power, reliability, comfort, great off-road and on the e highway
Bad customer service with Toyota when purchasing and for such an expensive car could have more features.

nk that we are stupid and uneductated. they all thought i was kidding when i was trying to negotiate on price.I was shocked with one particular dealership that they mucked me around so much last dec that I missed out on an Altitude model. I have ordered a 2013 model and I am waiting for it.......but trust me, when the salesman says he will call you Back in 5 mins.......get comfy cos he ain't going to call you.....anyways the best possible deal I could get was $86,000 with few extras thrown in but other than that the experience in buying my dream car has been a disaster. I truly hope the car performs better than than the slack representatives they have have selling the vehicles.Try John Madill Toyota next time. Wonderful customer service and willing to work out a reasonable deal. Communication and feedback all the way. We actually drove all the way from Brisbane to buy our Landcruiser 200 there.

Excellent
Overall the 200 series diesel is a good 4x4. I would buy another one if i had the choice now. Its a big improvment over the 100 series. The power and KDSS suspension makes the car feel smaller and lighter than it actually is. Apart from a minor tailshaft issue which apears to be a toyota signature lately it is a excellent car and i would not hesitate to recomend it to anyone. I must ad the customer service is also very good with toyota dealerships across Vic. If you are looking at buying one i'm sure you wuold not be dissapointed.

adequate lubrication on the splined area of the tailshaft where take-up occurs due to operational tolerance. Extra grease always fixed the problem but it often had to be done between servicing and I always insisted it be greased every service. So the problem still exists 15 years later? That's a bit average for an item that could probably be fixed with a little design input.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
Questions & Answers
Richard S.asked
Hi,
I'm looking to purchase a 2008 VX VDJ200R with about 140k on the clock.
Is there an easy / quick way to tell if the motor has been exposed to dust and may have been damaged?
Thank you, Cheers Richard
2 answers
Open the air filter box and lift up the air filter element to see if there is any dust on the engine side of the filter. run your finger around to see like you would checking for dust. Unfortunately some sellers may have cleaned the air box so you won't know. On a 2008 you should check to see if they have replaced the injectors also as they can cost up to $2k per injector and the 200 series is prone to having them fail. Make sure the automatic is changing smoothly also as they will shunt or change harshly if the auto has an issue. CV boots need checking also.
Thank you for your help.
I'm beginning to think the 200 series diesel land cruiser may not be a wise or safe purchase.
Again thank you for your advice.
Cheers Richard
