The best family 4x4 vehicle
Toyota landcruiser 200 vx very comfortable vehicle my kids loves it in every trip. Quite cabin and torquey engine. The stock suspension is amazing. Drive it off road and it will just take it easy with the help of its traction control you don't need differential locker in my opinion.

Comfortable car
This is a really comfortable 4wd to drive around. Lots of really good things about it. Some frustrations with the navigation unit being poor, as is toyota form it seems, and some of the alarms and bells can't be turned off, which is annoying. Good long distance tourer. Second major issue is the payload capacity. Toyota need to look at this and address it. Considering so many buy the car as a tourer, tow vehicle, the 650kg capacity is no-where near enough.

Best Family Car
We recently bought a 2011 altitude 200 series. It is amazing to drive. I couldn't believe how comfortable they are on the road. It does love it's fuel. Getting around 14.7L per 100km in town. So looking for better economy when doing more driving which we will be doing next year on our big lap of Oz. We will be towing a 22.6 foot Jayco around and we can't wait!

Happy enough
The car is a great drive and tows well, the kids have grown up now so its the cook and I, you could argue its an overstated vehicle for two people which it is but is bought for towing and long trips into central and western Queensland etc
I am a little disappointed in the lack of features for the driver: reversing sensor, fuel management, retracting mirrors etc. all of this was standard with my previous Prado GXL
considering the significant cost its disappointing, I wish I had of bought the VX
never the less a great vehicle.
The dealer is excellent to deal with and would recommend talking to them before purchasing elsewhere.

Power and the glory
Had my 2013 Sahara since new, 100,000km of trouble free luxury and hauling tools for work. A great machine to cover large distances easily and comfortably. Economical diesel albeit a twin turbo V8 powerhouse. Love the chiller box and dvd for children in the rear. Plenty of room for the larger framed folk! Reliability is first class.

Beautiful comfy & quiet car for touring & towing, plenty of grunt when towing our 3 ton caravan with reasonable economy (14 to 17 LP 100 kl ).
Interior is plane but functional, comfy seating for long distances, very quiet interior with very little road noise. GPS rather difficult to negotiate as is the radio especially when driving as the screen is too small as are the icons on the screen.
The steering tends to wander slightly so driver has to concentrate more to keep car on track.
This is my 3rd Landcruiser & reliability has been good ( I ...Read more

awesome
Awsome driving experience, quiter than I thought, great steering, excellent on and off road, plenty of space inside, there is nothing to dislike about the interior, easy to clean, and very comfortable for the whole family, it fits everything we need for everyday life or when we go for trips and very affordable running costs, i wish I bought it earlier.

Never another Toyota of any description
The 200 has potential, but Toyota's attitude leaves everything to be desired. Starting with a vibration problem at 1800-2000 rpm through the steering, floor and windows (not interested in fixing it) to poor fuel economy (especially when towing) and steering that no one has been able to correct, have seriously diminished the driving experience.

Great Tow Vehicle
Bought this car second hand with 30000 kms and have put a further 20000 kms on it mostly towing a 3 tonne van, I was pleasantly surprised at the ease of towing and also the fuel economy averaging approx. 18/19 liters per 100k while towing at about 95k and about 11/12 liters per 100k whilst not towing. Rego is not cheap as it it is quite a heavy vehicle and servicing is also more expensive and previous 4wds I've owned. The vehicle is very roomy inside and very comfortable when touring. The GX which is the base model does not have carpet but stil...Read more
l very little road noise. No carpet suits us when it comes to cleaning, one draw back is the snorkel which is actually a high air intake and is not water proof when it comes to deep water crossings and also having a large snorkel head it makes a slight noise on the highway as well as being ugly. Would have given it 5 stars but for the price when new.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

What a great car
We bought a 2008 Landcruiser 200 series to tow our 28ft caravan. What a perfect towing machine. We have been around Australia and our car did not miss a beat. Toyota really did their homework on this one. Loved driving our cruiser in all weather conditions knowing we were completely safe and the car delivered everything we asked of it.

New toyota 200 series under warranty with a painting claim defect denied
I bought a new Toyota 200 Series on the 4-8-15 under Warranty with a painting spot defect with a rusty colour appearing stronger and stronger on the back left passenger door.
After lodging several complaints to the Dealer and Toyota Australia, they denied finally any responsibilities despite the statements made by 2 Panel Repairers that the rusty defect was due partly duting the manufacturing process and transport of the car from Japan.
After 3 months of procastination and blaming games between the Dealer, Toyota Australia and myself,...Read more
I lodged a complanit with ACCC. It seems that Warranty in the Motor Car Industry is useless but customers are getting squeezed once more financilally to pay for the irresponsibilies of the Dealer or/and the Manufacturer. May 6th 2018 Update: Painting defects Toyota Landcruiser 200 model GXL build in 2016-17 has dropped considerably in standards considering that you pay over $85,000 for a new one. Painting defects due to thinless of the paint done by robots are really a serious problem if you reside in QLD and travel around the country when the car faces daily dust, rain, humidity, sun heat etc...When you wash the car afterwards the paint comes off showing the undercoat. You don't get any help from the Dealer or Toyota Guest Experience as they blame always the defects on the buyer or consumer. And, complaining to the ACCC is a waste of time as they do not appear the enforve consumer regulation in anyway.1 comment

If you can afford one, buy one.
What a beast of a vehicle
Pulls like a train
Plenty of room, nice and comfy and suites a large variety purposes
Would recommend the LC 200 to anyone with pockets deep enough to hold the cash you need to buy one
The Sahara was on my wish list but the VX was what we ended up buying and are very happy
We’ll be pulling a 3t van around our great country soon and will let you know how we (and the cruiser) go

Sahara nothing but the best
We are super impressed with the 2012 Sahara we bought from Carsales a month ago we are the second owners. It rides beautifully and handles extremely well. The interior is very luxurious with lovely cream leathered seats. It has lots of room to move and I love the quality of the stereo sound. Considering its a V8 turbo diesel she runs like a dream and is excellent on fuel we were pleasantly surprised. We also like the Engel fridge plug provided in the back it’s very handy for us. We really are happy with it so far it’s a fantastic vehicle it’s very suitable for our needs.

vibration felt through steering wheel, floor pan
Very disappointed with toyota's response about vibration through steering wheel at aprox 2000 rpm. I excepted no trip computer, even though standard feature in the corolla!!!. (I assumed it had a trip computer for $100,000)The 200 series are roomy, drive reasonbly well, but this vibration is so irritating. The dealer was no help, complained to toyota australia said its chararistics of this vehicle I do remember the demo having no vibration so to reassure myself I wasn't mistaken I went to test drive another vehicle at another dealer, did not have the vibration like ours!!, NOT HAPPY so if its chararistics of this type of vehicle why don't they all do it?????

Best thing since sliced bread!
We bought our 2008, 200 series GXL diesel second hand with about 80000 km's. It was already equipped with OME suspension (shockers and springs) giving it a 2" lift. It now has about 203000 km's on it and has never given us any trouble. We have towed a couple of off-road caravans all over Australia and it returns about 17 l/100km. You hardly notice that there is a 3 tonne caravan on the back even up hills where it leaves Patrols for dead. Some people say that the interior is "basic" for a car that costs about $80000 new, Idon't have any issue wi...Read more
th this because the more complex the electronics, in particular, the more problematic and harder to fix they become especially in the outback. Certainly, I have no problems with reliability, service every 5000 Km's, (grease and oil change) and 10000 Km's, (grease and oil change plus all filters). If you can't afford to do this you can't afford the car.1 comment
Further to my review of 11/17, our LC 200 GXL now has over 220,000 km’s on it and is still going strong. Serviced every 5000 km (grease and oil) and at 10000 km (grease, oil and fuel, oil and air filter).

Great car.
We love this car.. It is just perfect for a family and looking after it is definitely not as expensive as some of the other cars. We enjoy the family road trips as there is enough room to be comfortable for long drives. Highly recommend Toyota and definitely worth the test drive.

Nice car but transmission not the best.
Really like the Sahara. Fridge is good, nice comfy seats, seat warmers are nice and warm. Transmission hunts gears too much and dropping in to 6th over 110 is just crazy. Why don’t Toyota fix this? Needs transmission software change. Silky smooth engine. No rattles. High beam should be HID. Overall very happy with purchase.

I love my LANDCRUISER!
I purchased the GXL in 2016 and I am extremely happy with it. A very spacious and comfortable vehicle. With 2 people aboard and basic luggage we have, on a trip to Sydney(from Melbourne) and return we averaged 9.5LPHk. On that occasion we travelled on the Hume highway, sitting on the speed limit the whole time. With the 110KPH limit it allowed us to attain 6 gear which drops the RPM down about 300RPM. It does not seem much, but on a V8 it adds up. That trip was purely highway, both ways. No suburbs etc.
Generally around town economy is in the...Read more

Richard S.asked
Hi,
I'm looking to purchase a 2008 VX VDJ200R with about 140k on the clock.
Is there an easy / quick way to tell if the motor has been exposed to dust and may have been damaged?
Thank you, Cheers Richard
2 answers
Open the air filter box and lift up the air filter element to see if there is any dust on the engine side of the filter. run your finger around to see like you would checking for dust. Unfortunately some sellers may have cleaned the air box so you won't know. On a 2008 you should check to see if they have replaced the injectors also as they can cost up to $2k per injector and the 200 series is prone to having them fail. Make sure the automatic is changing smoothly also as they will shunt or change harshly if the auto has an issue. CV boots need checking also.
Thank you for your help.
I'm beginning to think the 200 series diesel land cruiser may not be a wise or safe purchase.
Again thank you for your advice.
Cheers Richard

I have an issue with my 2018 LC 20 VX model and radio and Bluetooth having no sound. Here’s what happens
Currently - no sound at all coming through. This effects the radio and whilst the phone does connect to Bluetooth, there is no sound coming out of that either.
Previously - there has been static coming from the speakers. It is very random and can ‘crackle’ at any time, then goes quiet, then crackles again.
Occasionally - At times it just switches on and everything works.
Toyota have replaced the head unit and zero change. I just picked it up from Toyota today for attempt #4 and the technician says there are ‘no problems with wiring or speakers’ however I still have no sound
Any help/advice would be wonderful.

I had the same problem. Toyota standards are dropping fast for such $X$ at more than $ 84,000 GXL. Look for another car cheaper but as good.
