Top Of The Range
Cannot possibly rate this vehicle any higher! We went from a 2010 Manual Colorado to a 2009 Land Cruiser 200 Series and we are just in heaven <3 We town a race trailer for about 6-8 months of the year which, once packed, is extremely heavy. Our old Colorado was a pain to tow it with but the Cruiser makes it seem as if it weren't there! The space provided throughout the car is also a dream! 3 adults can fit comfortably across the back seat; even two adults and a baby seat. Everyone should own this car!

Limp mode
Our 200 went into limp mode a lot of times and after a lot of investigating was advised that it would be $13000 + to do fuel pump and injectors and fuel rail. Once when it stopped on me I went to look at the fuses and noticed the primer button sucked down, I pulled off the fuel line to the tank and blew back through it. 20000 ks later it's still going like a dream.

No fuss
Bought to 200 as we needed a tow vehicle for a large caravan. In many ways the car is faultless. It's comfortable, powerful, easy to drive and so far hasn't had any problems at all. It does everything without fuss (hence the title) and I enjoy driving it.
If I had any complaints it would be about what you don't get, rather than what you do get. For $100k you don't get much of the technology that is standard in many much much cheaper vehicles. You don't even get a lot of the things that are available in the 200 in other markets. The fact that...Read more
you need to buy the VX (one from top of the range) with an asking price of over $100k to get steering wheel controls and trip computer is disgraceful (or at least you did on the MY16.....that might no be the case for other model years). Also for a 4.5l V8 twin-turbo engine you don't get a lot of performance. 200kw power & 650NM torque are very conservative figures for an engine of this size. My one real gripe is the transmission. It seems better suited to a V8 petrol than and V8 diesel. The first sign of a hill and it's dropping gears and unlocking the torque converter and sending the rev's screaming. It never lets the engine use it's torque, it always relies on revs and power and that spoils what is otherwise a relaxed and no fuss driving experience (and probably doesn't help fuel economy either). It also removes pretty much any and all engine breaking. Even dropping gears manually doesn't really work. You have to rely on the breaks 100% to slow down which isn't great in a heavy tow vehicle. All in all I'm happy with the 200. It does what I need and does what I bought it for but it does seem that Toyota Australia do seem to get away with selling a relatively low spec version of the 200 here while still charging a premium of it. I guess it is because there is very little competition. There are other good 4WD tourers, there are other good tow vehicles, there are other large powerful luxury SUV's, but there isn't really anything else that does everything well.Similar opinion? Frustrated with fault nobody seems to be able to fix
Bought a 200 series land cruiser o 2008 excellent vehicle till 2013 when travelling from Perth to Carnarvon towing a caravan. 200klms from Perth all the warning lights came on and we went into limp mode Toyota informed me that i needed a new turbo once we reset the fault code and removed the caravan there was no more trouble and I ran it for 2 years till we decided to take another trip so I had the new turbo fitted before we left however after travelling the first 200 (roughly) the fault reoccurred. I would like to know if anyone has had this same problem.

For flagship model I expected much more
I recently took delivery of my new Sahara supposed to be best in class. Firstly the 850 pages of drivers hand book and infotainment system was shocking.
How is the layman supposed to understand this. The issue is that the handbooks cover many different regions and derivatives.
I'm time poor so asked Toyota Customer experience to let me know what exactly is fitted to my vehicle. I have sent them an email detailing specific answers from information contained in the handbooks. So far there is no response on my issues all relating to is this f...Read more
itted to my vehicle. After a week I had to place a call to see how things were progressing. to those who are reading I was just asking TMCA to let me know what is on the car in terms of specification they do not know! Now having toured the Toyota factory in Vic and seen the assembly process which was very impressive, the manufacturing line know exactly what was fitted, even building left hand drive and right hand drive vehicles on the same line. So far I have not received any answer from Toyota on the build specification. this is worrying the dealer cannot confirm now the importers cannot confirm either.Similar opinion? Great car
such a nice car to drive, you forget you are in a large 4wd. Then when we get off road the performance is still all there. We have multiple heavy trailers to tow and the twin turbo v8 just eats it up! Interior wise it has all the bells and whistles and is super comfy for our family of 6. The only thing I would recommend to people with small kids is, dont let them kick the TV's! Ours cracked one and the quote from repair at toyota was over 5k!

What a rippa
What a great four wheel drive the Twin Turbo Diesel is. Absolutely quiet inside at what ever speed, and it should be considering the price. A premium luxury vehicle. When it comes to towing it has all the grunt with 650nm just off idle at 1600 rpm. It has heaps more torque than many competitors out there as they boast towing 3.5 tonne but only have about 420nm. You decide if you want a sluggish vehicle holding traffic up....then go and buy the likes of a Mazda BT50, Volkswagon Amorok, Mitsubishi Sport, Toyota Prado, Toyota Hilux.

Nearly a 5 star rating
I have owned other 4x4 before but this one is the best one yet but is just a bit heavy on fuel consumption average 14.5l/100klms not loaded and 18.6l/100klms towing a 2.6 ton caravan. The suspension is a bit soft for towing poly airbags and load levelers made a massive improvement.

Love the power
The main reason for buying this car was to tow our 24ft 3t caravan and transport 4 grandchildren on holidays. I love driving this car, performance, power, handling and noise are all good especially for a car this size especially when towing. Fuel consumption is around 12.5 L/100K around the city, 10.5 country and 20 towing, give or take 2 Liters.
On the down side I havent been totally impressed with quality of ride on gravel roads and the performace of the transmission torque convertor lock up at highway speed, resulting in the purchase...Read more

Best car I have ever had
The heading states it all, love my VX 200 series landcruiser. It's smooth and uses far less fuel than it could for a car of its size. Perhaps the only bad thing would be that I needed to upgrade the suspension to tow. It sagged in the back with standard suspension.

2016 landcruiser vibration
Mine is the VX with vibration through steering wheel amplified when towing and fatigues the body, absolutely disgraceful for any car especially their flagship vehicle. Has been back in total they have probably had it for 20 days back and forth, electrical issues engine cut our on freeway The worst car i have ever owned cannot wait to finish my 2yr lease. Toyota have tried to fix it but cant and like the other writer was told tough its just what landcruiser does. My y62 patrol is streets ahead a better vehicle gave that to my wife enjoy it so much when im back in that.

2016 Landcruiser 200 VX
Very comfortable, nicely appointed. However I struggle to understand why a near $100k vehicle doesnt have simple everyday items such as built-in tyre-pressure monitoring or auto-dimming rear-view mirror. My Wife purchased a VW Golf back in 2008, and more recently traded up to a Passat. Both vehicles cost under $50k and both had TPMS & auto-dimming rear view mirror.
My point is about value for money, yes the LC is a great vehicle but I do believe Toyota is over-charging and under-delivering on features. I guess that because there is really no d...Read more

Trustworthy comfortable transport
We sold our near New XC 90 Volvo to purchase our 2nd hand 2008 Prado so we could travel around Australia, we were going to sell it after twelve months travel and purchase another Volvo, we are so happy wit comfort and reliability of this vehicle that we will be updating to a new one when we return. The Prado we purchased had 240000 K.s on the clock and still runs like new

Landcruiser 20 Vx Model
I traded my LC 200 Anniversary Edition which had 66,000K on the clock.
So I have now purchased the VX model, which has a lot more Bells and Whistles.
Again Toyota LandCruisers are absolutely Awesome Machines.
Do they have a downside, yes they are difficult to park in tight car parks. But that is a small negative compared to the magnificent on road performance.
I use the LC200 VX to tow my 2 Horse Float with Kitchen and bed etc. it goes up the challenging steep Toowoomba Range like it has nothing on the back.
I always feel secure in the car with and without the Horse Float.
Final word Absolutely Amazing Machine, which have amazing resale value.

Toyota always
Super easy to drive and from inside very quiet and smooth
Would like more cubby holes to stash those necessary bits and pieces
Totally reliable, but it is almost new so should be. Running costs acceptable uses a little extra fuel when towing a caravan. Very pleased with the overall performance of this car I am sure this one will give us the same amazing service that all out past ones have.

Very average for the money.
The vehicle lacks Carrying capacity without a GVM upgrade load capacity is limited to approx 560kg depending on the weighbridge ticket for the vehicle in an unladen state with all fluids and a full tank of fuel, known as the kerb weight. The kerb weight nominally claimed by Toyota is 2,740kg accross the entire range. Which of course is an impossibility. for instance the GXL has no KDSS suspension or sun roof etc. which should make it considerably lighter than the VX or Sahara models. My vehicle has a kerb weight of 2,790kg with full tank of fue...Read more
l, NOT 2740kg. The standard GVM for all vehicles in the range is 3,300kg: GVM minus the Kerb weight gives us the load carrying capacity 3,300kg - 2,790kg = 510kg or using Toyota's figures 3,300kg - 2,740kg = 560kg. The 200 series Landcruiser GXL is sold as an 8 seat Station wagon, so using the standard person weight of 75kg X 8 = 600kg. You are now illegal. (over weight by 40kg) that is based on their figures, NOTE NO luggage has been addded to the vehicle. My vehicle carrying capacity 3,300kg - 2,790kg = 510kg our 8 passengers at 75kg ea = 600kg I would be 90kg overloaded. I had the vehicles GVM upgraded prior to registration at a cost of approx $2,800. I have approached Toyota Australia with this issue asking the question, under Australian consumer law is the item fit for purpose? Without the GVM upgrade I would say not. Second request was for a refund of the cost to make the vehicle fit for purpose? The reply says the vehicle fully conforms to its intent and was compliant to the Australian Design Rules (ADR) at time of manufacture. they did not address the issue of fit for purpose and of course declined to provide any financial assistance. I guess it is a case for Consumer affairs to rule on. Meanwhile I imagine that most people using these vehicles foe towing and family camping would be seriously overloaded. In the case of an accident you would be uninsured. There are other serious safety issues with the GXL model such as the removal of any steering wheel controls for the touch screen radio phone connect, disconnect etc.Similar opinion? Greatest Ever.
All Landcruiser are at the top of the 4WD crew. Tows the dual axle boat trailer like its not there. I can not find much to fault on the vehicle at all. It drives better at 110 to 120 then it does at 100 km. The auto gearbox setting are not right or locked up till at least 110. Also slight steering noise at idle.
Ok 2 years have gone by. I love this car. After 10 thousand kms it has settled in nicely. In the bush or on the freeway it drives spot on.

What a great vehicle
Fitted a Tunit and just drove over 100 kms on cruise control and average 7.7 liters per 100 kms. Around town average 12l
Drives as if sitting in a comfortable armchair
Has so many driving aids that it practically drives itself
I loved my 80 series and 100 series but I don't miss them after driving the new one
Cannot fault it.

Air bag suspension
My rear suspension is high on left hand side. Toyota dealership all measured & agree airbag is high but nothing has been done. Said have to wait for Toyota engineers to work out fault, this was Sept last year(2016)would like Toyota to recall and service this fault, must be putting more weight on one side and maybe wearing tyres out on one side.

Questions & Answers
Richard S.asked
Hi,
I'm looking to purchase a 2008 VX VDJ200R with about 140k on the clock.
Is there an easy / quick way to tell if the motor has been exposed to dust and may have been damaged?
Thank you, Cheers Richard
2 answers
Open the air filter box and lift up the air filter element to see if there is any dust on the engine side of the filter. run your finger around to see like you would checking for dust. Unfortunately some sellers may have cleaned the air box so you won't know. On a 2008 you should check to see if they have replaced the injectors also as they can cost up to $2k per injector and the 200 series is prone to having them fail. Make sure the automatic is changing smoothly also as they will shunt or change harshly if the auto has an issue. CV boots need checking also.
Thank you for your help.
I'm beginning to think the 200 series diesel land cruiser may not be a wise or safe purchase.
Again thank you for your advice.
Cheers Richard

I have an issue with my 2018 LC 20 VX model and radio and Bluetooth having no sound. Here’s what happens
Currently - no sound at all coming through. This effects the radio and whilst the phone does connect to Bluetooth, there is no sound coming out of that either.
Previously - there has been static coming from the speakers. It is very random and can ‘crackle’ at any time, then goes quiet, then crackles again.
Occasionally - At times it just switches on and everything works.
Toyota have replaced the head unit and zero change. I just picked it up from Toyota today for attempt #4 and the technician says there are ‘no problems with wiring or speakers’ however I still have no sound
Any help/advice would be wonderful.

no air con needs a few screen changes- easy just a pain). All working fine. I have put on it a water fileter by toyota as water will kill the engine. Seems like the space has been allowed for this SO why has toyota not put it in???? ANyway car feels great and all works good sofar.
