Prado 2016 GPS
Picked up brand new Prado in December 2016 being a 10/16 build but so disappointed with GPS. Travelling along the Pacific Highway thru the Kempsy by pass the GPS cancel s the route as it is not on the map. You have to reset your route most GPS systems just keep recalulating till it picks up a road. Doesnt have the road speeds displayed on screen either. It often tells you to turn when there is no road and never ever had a road. Very disappointing by Toyota and absolutely no help from Toyota to amend the issues. Shame on you, Toyota

We've waited a long time for this luxury
We have just bought a Toyota VX 200 series, we cannot express the joy we feel about the luxury. We thought it would have been heavier on diesel, but to our surprise it's the same as our old 80 series. We look forward to doing road trips now, so comfortable, with all the extras. Electric everything. We are planning to purchase a caravan in the next year or so - can't wait so we can tow it with our new VX around Australia

Beware poor quality control
I bought a new current model Landcruiser 200 series in late 2016. Within 6 months, the vehicle has extensive rust underneath, due to inadequate paint finish on the underbody of the vehicle. The factory paint job underneath was totally inadequate, and Toyota and the dealer refused to accept responsibility. They said the vehicle had been taken off-road. I thought that was the idea of buying a 4WD. The vehicle has not been in harsh conditions, merely driven on dirt roads and one visit to the beach, driving on dry sand. Very disappointed with the factory quality control and the company's response.

Love it! Sahara forever!
Very comfy ride (Just like a air suspension S class Merc) Power for this car should be measured in Elephant power, not horse power coz it pulls like an elephant. Gives me 9-11l per 100 on the highway and 12-16l/100 in the city. Have had it for 15 months and no issues with DPF or vibrations that others mentioned of for the older models upto the 2015 models.
The 4 cameras makes driving and parking the vehicle in tight spots a breeze! The Cooler/Fridge holds about 12 cans of 300ml drink cans. My kids love the 2 screens in the back (have a PS4...Read more
connected to it :D) Sound system is not bad (non JBL version). But I have upgraded the speakers to the Focal's direct swap Toyota integration series and now it sounds even better. Wish the disk player could handle BlueRay as well as the cheaper Prado's have the option, but not a deal breaker. Service only costs $220 (capped price for the first 3 years) at the Toyota dealer. Cant think of anything bad to say about it really.. Oh, i wish it had the ride height control that the lexus model has, coz that'd make climbing into the cabin for shorter and older individuals a pleasant experience :)Similar opinion? Does what it should
The big v8 is a sweet drive. Nowhere near ADR for consumption (9.9 combined), have been getting 9.8l/100klm on the highway and about 14.5l/100klm around town. So combined would average about 12-12.5l/100klm. Still pretty good for a 2.7 tonne car and I guess will get better as time goes on as I still only have 8000klms on it. Pulls our 19ft caravan no worries, consumption around 17l/100klm when travelling on highways at 100-105klm.

are easily cleaned, and the bigger satnav screen for ease of navigation (thought the one in the GLX was way too small), and ease of vision with the reverse camera. Satnav works really well, been to Sydney 3 times and driven around the city to various spots no worries. Seats are comfy for driver and passengers. Will remove the two extra seats in the back to give more storage room for my sailing and surfing gear. Good vision all around through windows and behind with the camera, and good parking collision warnings with sensors. Overall, easy to drive, vision is excellent, throttle response is tight considering the size of everything, mind you in eco mode it is sluggish around town, so we only use eco on the highway. Love it, everything works like you would expect it to. No hesitation in recommending for someone who needs a quality tow vehicle or a bigger car to carry the family and gear.Similar opinion? This was a Christmas present from my husband. 1st ever 4WD. Great to drive on & off road. Love it.
Great to drive with easy steering and surprisingly very quiet. Heaps of leg room in front and middle seats. Love how middle seats can be adjusted. Air con great throughout car and gives you air con vent options from front to back. One annoying thing is the navigation/stereo system is behind the times but you can always upgrade yourself. In my opinion, very enjoyable to drive. Love it.

Landcruiser benefits
Purchased landcruiser primarily for its towing and safety capabilities. This is our fourth landcruiser and we have always found them reliable and felt safe driving them and comfortable at the same time. The interior is spacious and the driver and passengers have plenty of room with regards to comfort. Although the dashboard is well laid out we feel that the hands free phone controls should be more easily accessed while driving ei oln the steering wheel. For the size of the vehicle and the motor the economy is good.

needs more thought
love the car in every way except for the lack of room for anything such as uhf radios, and storage space to store gear such as recovery gear, so I had to go buy a drawn system and fit that into the back of th car, also the power or cigarete socket in the rear of the car uses too light a guage wiring!

Great road or tow vehicle
April 2016 purchase, build 2/16.
Performance is very good - power to spare. Upgraded suspension (ARB grade 2 upgrade, $3500) excellent on and off road and increases legal GVM to 3560kg. Needed if you have a heavy tow bar weight, full fuel tanks, 2 people, luggage, etc.
Noise good - in this car you can travel 1000k and still feel refreshed. For bitumen and gravel its outstandingly comfortable. Fuel consumption OK for a big 4WD but nothing like Toyota claim - best is 12.5L/100Km at 95-100 on expressway.
But we use ours for serious off road ...Read more

Great to tow with
Very plain in side doesn't come with the extras that other brands have over priced in today market very old technology and fuel consumption is at least very high should bring back the 6 cyclinder turbo diesel much better on fuel and eazyer to work on leaves more room around engineering to add the extras.

Engine Brakes
I have a 2012 GXL. Bought it second hand (120K's) six months ago. My first trip into the Mountains over Christmas saw me have the opportunity to test out it's off road capabilities. Very disappointed. Going up great. Going down a disaster. There is virtually no engine breaking with this vehicle. My previous IFS 100 Series Auto diesel beat it hands down. While the 200 has a decent traction control mode that probably works OK on a really bad section. It is a disaster on general driving. Apart from the noise this mode cooks your brakes and is only...Read more
suitable for bad SHORT sections. What about all the other marginal hills. Last Autumn i took the 100 series towing my camper at about 1650kgs across Davies Plain track. Low range and select 1st gear and it worked a treat with very little need for the brakes to be applied. Lesser hills 2nd or 3rd. The 200 Series requires constant riding of the brakes as the engine will not hold the vehicle without the engine over revving. I might also add i was not towing the camper on these hills. On the main road over Shelley going up the hill was a pleasure with all that power but going down the other side was disappointing. Constantly on the brakes. The engine hardly even slowed the vehicle. I had the camper on the back. The interior is terribly basic for the money compared to say a ? $25K drive away deal on a small car with full whistles and bells. The navigating system was most likely picked up at a Chinese garage sale last century by Toyota. Apart from the fact it fills a hole in the dash it is one of the biggest electrical lemons you could own. I rely on my $150 Nuvi that has a permanent position in front of the ash tray. I had planned to do a lot of High Country camping with the camper but now I will have to leave the camper on the flats or pay heavily for brakes. Saying all that i love the vehicle for highway, towing and general cruising. Very solid and comfortable. Great visibility and handling. But, If the 100 series was still available i would buy that instead. Too early to say anything about running costs but as a service is now due i am worried my mechanic will say "you need rotors and pads". Still trying to get the smell of brake pads out of my nostrils. I used to slow my 100 series down with (auto) gear changes as i left the freeway all the way to the lights. I don't bother trying with the 200. Nothing noticeable except the tacho happens.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Land Cruiser 200 Series V8 Disel - Ultimate tow vehicle but expensive to drive
I purchased a 2008 200 series Land Cruiser GXL (180,000km - $55,000) in Broom when my Nissan Patrol's transmission self destructed towing a 2.7 ton caravan. The Cruiser is most definitely the ultimate tow vehicle. It can pull a van with no effort at all and can pass anything except a service station. If you have to tow a heavy van or trailer and want to do it at the speed limit, overtake with ease and cruise in comfort this is the vehicle for you. There are some things you need to know though. When not towing (you wouldn't use 6th gear tow...Read more
ing) the cruiser will continually 'hunt' gears which will cause excessive heat in the auto transmission. The transmission change point for 6th gear is set stupidly at a around 105kph but it will hold in 6th when you back off to 100kph. But then if you are in 6th at 100kph and you go up a hill, even a small one, it will kick back to 5th or even 4th then back up to 6th on the down slope, and this will happen constantly, especially with cruise control on but even with it off. If you drive (not towing) in Select mode rather than Drive, the change point for 6th is a little lower (around 97kph) so 6th is easier to attain and it won't 'hunt' between 5th and 6th as much, but it will still happen. There is no indicator that tells you what gear you are in so FYI if you are doing 100kph and your Tacho is on 1500 your are in 6th. If you are towing a heavy van you will also need to be in Select mode not Drive. You can then select your top gear which for me was 5th (some people even go to 4th). Never tow in 6th (it won't anyway). RPM's will not exceed 2300 in 4th at 100kph when towing. In 5th you will sit on 1700rpm. If the 'hunting' problem between 5th and 6th gear is driving you nuts my advice is to go to a specialist and have them re-map your engine and transmission computers to set change up points that are more suited to your driving style. This costs around $2K with an exhaust enhancement (3") which will improve performance. You can find these specialists on line or go to a Land Cruiser forum for advice. Max fuel range when towing will be not much over 500km so you need to plan your fuel stops if you are in the outback. The fuel tank holds 138L including the reserve. The reserve is combined with the main and there is only one filler point. Your fuel gauge needle will sit past full for the first 150km then it will start to move. That's your reserve gone. Expect around $170 a fill and much more in the outback. With the van on tow I was drawing 27L per 100km. Around town without a van or trailer on the back expect 14L per 100km so nearly 1000km to a tank. Forget the claimed 10.5. Another reviewer on these pages got much better fuel economy using a torque converter lock. This after market kit will definitely help with fuel and will save your transmission. These are great cars, comfortable, can tow anything and as tough as nails, but you need to accept that you will be putting your hand in your pocket for a lot of fuel and you will have to either fix the transmission problem or get used to either not finding 6th gear all that often or always using Select mode. P.S. The earlier models (pre 2010) also use one to two liters of oil per 5000km but the Dealers say that's just what they do so check the oil every 5000k and don't be surprised by a big cloud of black smoke when you put your foot down. Later models have allegedly fixed this problem.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Room for improvement
Bad points,- Gps/entertainment system is hopeless! . My little 10 year old garmin outperforms it. There is no steering wheel controls(even my wifes corola has them). The vehicle has built in tow bar but does not come with wiring harness which means the rear side panels and rear seats have to be removed to fit.(Surely it is legally required in all countries to have trailer lights on all trailers, and surely it is more cost effective to be done during the assembly process. This all happened soon after first service, (This is not an isolated case, my sons vehicle had problems when driving home from dealer after purchase, also had injectors replaced). Vehicle suffered major dust problems when driven offroad. ( so bad i could not read dash, dust was throughout vehicle,, dealer adjusted doors, have not tested since.) GXL dash instrumentation is lacking badly even compared to the lower grade corola . Good points- powerfull, best tow vehicle available, comfortable, good fuel economy (10.2 L/100k distance highway driving, 18.2 L/100 towing 20ft van. Fantastic headlights, brakes, handling and offroad ability.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

GPS is disappointing
Picked up car last Tues and went for a quick run around Southern WA, great car to drive but very disappointed in the factory GPS. Maps don't show a lot of the streets, etc. in country towns, even minor sealed roads in country areas are not shown, Routes and Points of interest on GPS cannot be accessed whilst vehicle is moving, causing a lot of grief for my navigator, hence i had to stop every time she wanted to make changes, etc. No visual display on current speed limits or other info. Now looking for a 3rd party system that will work, shouldn't have to do this on a vehicle that is close to $120k. Also can't access the music that's on my mobile phone, both my Jeep and Mazda win hands down in this and GPS.

TOYOTA LC200 Land Cruiser May 2008
Purchased 3/10 from Llewellyn Motors, Ipswich, QLD with $46,600 k's on the clock.
Very comfortable to drive- no fatigue at days end.
More towing power than we will ever use ( Tow a 2 tonne camper trailer at around 95 - 100 k's with engine doing around 1700 revs)
Just wish 6th gear would kick in at 95 - 98 k's instead of 102k's.

The Cruiser Sahara 200 was purchased for interstate commercial work with lots of towing, up to 3.5 tonnes.

The big V8 diesel with twin variable vane turbochargers mated to an Aisin 6 speed auto is much better than I could have imagined. 2016 GXL Hands Free Electrical Noise
The car is great with the exception of the stereo. I have tried several iphones (5, 6 & 7) and all people I am talking to can barely hear me over an electrical buzzing noise. Toyota have replicated the problem and are investigating. Possibly a problem in the series as the car the tested against also had the problem. Going to install a new head unit soon??? but I am not confident this is going to fix. Also very poor on Toyotas part for not having hands free controls on the steering wheel.

Hi,
I'm looking to purchase a 2008 VX VDJ200R with about 140k on the clock.
Is there an easy / quick way to tell if the motor has been exposed to dust and may have been damaged?
Thank you, Cheers Richard
2 answers
Open the air filter box and lift up the air filter element to see if there is any dust on the engine side of the filter. run your finger around to see like you would checking for dust. Unfortunately some sellers may have cleaned the air box so you won't know. On a 2008 you should check to see if they have replaced the injectors also as they can cost up to $2k per injector and the 200 series is prone to having them fail. Make sure the automatic is changing smoothly also as they will shunt or change harshly if the auto has an issue. CV boots need checking also.
Thank you for your help.
I'm beginning to think the 200 series diesel land cruiser may not be a wise or safe purchase.
Again thank you for your advice.

I have an issue with my 2018 LC 20 VX model and radio and Bluetooth having no sound. Here’s what happens
Currently - no sound at all coming through. This effects the radio and whilst the phone does connect to Bluetooth, there is no sound coming out of that either.
Previously - there has been static coming from the speakers. It is very random and can ‘crackle’ at any time, then goes quiet, then crackles again.
Occasionally - At times it just switches on and everything works.
Toyota have replaced the head unit and zero change. I just picked it up from Toyota today for attempt #4 and the technician says there are ‘no problems with wiring or speakers’ however I still have no sound
Any help/advice would be wonderful.
