Vacuum Cleaners Buying Guide
Our buying guide will explain which type of vacuum cleaner would suit you most, how much you can expect to pay for one, and which features are worth looking out for.
Disappointing
I purchase the Pet Vax about 18months ago as my mum had a Vax from years ago and loves it and it is still going. This one I purchase has been only very disappointing. The attachment head gets stuck on the wand section (My husband cant even pull apart) which makes it very difficult to clear blockages. Have had blockages in the hose part which have not been any better to clear. Have found it harder to get filters from shops and have to order online through the Vax Shop. Not happy.
It shampoos the carpet reasonalby for in between cleans
Difficult to pull attachments apart. and suction deteriorates quite rapidly and frequently with blockages.

Good
A great unit, works well and really cleans.
Hose and telescopic wand are excellent, no more back aches from stooping but it shortens to store in cupboard.
Cleans pretty well on carpets, not as good as professional removing heavy stains but leaves them clean and fresh in general.
Fairly easy to assemble and dissassemble from vac to washer.
Good suction, large capacity bag, cleans well wet and dry.
Reasonably quiet.
attachments fall off outside where they are supposed to sit.
Having to remove hose before removing bag means ripped bags if you forget or someone else tries to help and sometimes dust etc falls out opening.

Excellent
Have had ours for nearly five years and haven't had any problems with it and it does get a fair bit of use (2-3 times a week).
Great suction, easy to operate and handle
None that I can think of

Excellent
Apart from the two minor issues, I would have to say this is a great vac. cleaner. Great for the car upholstery; wash brings it up like new. For large areas I'd recommend purchasing the shampoo head from your retailer (has little wheels on it - approx $40), this head makes the job easy as it glides over carpet. Also, I had to put some wide insulation tape around the ends of the pole as this stops the attachments becoming jammed on. I love this appliance, carpets look like new, smell great and dry in no time.
Large vac capacity, dual action - ca...Read more

Good
I have had mine for a month now, thus far I am happy with the performance. I have washed the carpets in the bedrooms once, they looked fresher. I have taken to vacuuming everyday because this vacuum does such a good job & it is easy to use. We have a long haired dog & a cat as well as teenage girls so it is great for hair & getting the hair off the couch as well.
This vacuum has great suction, the bags have a large capacity, it rolls around easily & gets all of the dog hair off everything.
The little extra heads do tend to fall off the part where you can keep them.

Can I buy filters etc online?
1 answer
Yes you can, or K-mart.
I just bought a few online for my other one exactly the same, i gave my last one away because i stuffed up the water pump unknowingly.
I was pressing both buttons on the top because i didn't understand the sign and burn't the water pump out.
They just use the vacuum part of the machine.
The bags have a number on them, just put that number and model into browser on e-bay

I have the original Vax that we bought in 1986 !! Since Vax no longer make the cloth and foam filter, it was a case of make your own. Bought some Calico, and then went and bought a piece of foam which... Read more
I cut to size and made two layers. Added a new hose as the original was cracking. Also bought a new pipe as the originals had seized up over the years. I got the supplier to make the flexible hose 8ft long and this machine is now working as good as they day we bought it. All up cost was around $50 - cant by a good vacuum cleaner for that price, and dont really care for the bagless units. Heard to many negative reports on them. Use a Karcher for shampooing rhe car seats and carpets plus the house carpets.
