Just picked up a Vax... but the light doesn’t come on when I plug it in to charge. Looks like it’s dead out of the box. Am I missing something?

Hello. We love our Vax53000. But we have misplaced the charging adaptor somewhere in the house. As we have so many others it isn't easy to find it and I'm not sure what it looks like apart from the drawing in the manual. Is it white? Please can you describe it, or send me a,photo of one. Thank you.

Hi. Mine is black, it's quite small. On the adaptor there is a silver sticker above where the cord joins the adaptor which says 'VAX AC adaptor' with some safety info underneath. :-)

I've had mine for a while and usually just drag fibres etc off the roller. I did manage once to get the clear visor off but now I can't . Am I supposed to push the silver buttons down to release it? They don't depress at all when I try that. Must be something simple I'm not doing, any help appreciated. The instruction guide is no help at all.

Hi Kathy ... long time reply and maybe you have consigned your sweeper to the bin by now? But it's easy to remove the clear plastic roller cover - in fact it releases from the opposite point to those silver buttons which are just "anchor points". Look down and around each side of the cover to lower corners - you can lift cover out and off the little pegs around there! You will find it can now be lifted off those buttons and you can easily wash the plastic and give the roller a good spring clean!! :)

I always let mine get completely out of charge before recharging then make sure it charges for longer than 16 hours but no more than 24 hours.

I usually charge my vac overnight. Once it is fully charged I turn the power off and wait till it runs out of power. You Can usually tEll when it needs another charge, it runs a lot slower.

This is my 4th vax, and like one of the others has become really noisy to operate after a weeks use, is that normal,? it happened on one of the others but righted itself after a while. Does it come apart besides the front plastic clear shield

Hi Lorna
Mine gets very noisy sometimes too - but I think it's the cat fluff winding around the brush as it goes away. It is, however, more noisy now than when I got it. If you have only ever collected dust and grit and not hair and fur, then there could be a problem. (I got a 3 year extended warranty on mine - so I am covered for now.)
I have never tried to pull it apart, but there are phillips head screws that hold it together, so it would not be hard if you were keen to do that.
It's still a nifty machine for a quick clean up - even the wife uses it occasionally, but not as often as me!

It has difficulty sweeping long shag pile carpet as the long pile gets stuck in the rotating bristles.

Hi I never leave it on charging all the time. I charge for no more than 3 hours. When I first got one I think I was told that after its initial long charge that about an hour was all it needs. My oldest one is about 6 yrs old and still going strong. One at holiday house gets random use and seems to hold charge well between visits.

Have three VAX sweepers in use with in the family. Have had to replace the lower part of the handle, Part that clips into the body of the unit, on everyone due to the securing plastic clips braking off. Me thinks that we have a design fault with this part. has anyone had the same problem. Costs around $14 to replace each time. Just ordered another lower handle part again today..Not happy.

I also have three of them. My husband has broken that same part on one of them but I have blamed him. I think he uses it more for energetically than I do maybe twisting the handle too much during use. Have you broken any little lugs off where it attaches into the machine that might cause it to keep breaking. Or perhaps put the handle on backwards( I also wondered if my husband had done this) Just a couple of things to think about.
I didn't know you could order the part, how and where did you arrange the replacement part as I would love to get the broken one up and running again. I love them.

Hi Jim
We've got four in the family and haven't had that problem. One of the grey clips that holds the handle sections together broke once because my boys used it to play swords with but it is easily held with tape. However, I don't think you can use tape to fix your problem. Do you remove and replace the handle very often? If so, that might be the problem. My only major problem with this unit is that my chargers (not batteries) keep dying. I am on my third charger in four years and that's not good enough either. Good luck with finding an answer to your problem. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

You should call your local appliance Centre. I live near Geelong, and there is a store called "Julians Electrical Appliances. Try ringing them. They have the supplier contacts.
