Gets best frequent flyer program award for a reason
Velocity gets awarded the best frequent flyer program for a reason, it smashes most others to pieces and any it doesn't still wins in a fair comparison.
The people here literally are just whining because they haven't read or asked or heard properly. I was advised points never expire as long as you add points to your account in any way shape or form. This was extremely clear.
Customer service has always been exceptional.
The ONLY fault is the taxes when paying with points for a flight (very excessive) but this is the same with every single airline carrier, so Velocity is not alone in this regards and they have to make money somehow.

Great New Experience
I was with them only 9 months and was given Gold status. Free entry to lounges etc. I am saving madly for my first International rewards flight but the winner by far was my recent upgrade on a flight which I didn't even ask for. Spent 15 years with Qantas FF and no such service as it was impossible to reach the status credits required.

Virgin lost 2 customers forever!
When we first joined Velocity they said "your points will never expire". Then they kept changing the rules. I had over 100,000 velocity reward points before my husband and I went on our retirement trip to see the world. The points expired while we were away (didn't see their emails) but same as others, Virgin won't reinstate them. So much for loyalty. Will never, ever, ever fly Virgin again.

4 days trying to ring to change a flight.
It took 4 days of ringing & waiting for over 2 hours with no response, trying to change a flight because i purchased my ticket using velocity points. When i did get thru was told i had rung the wrong person to which i waited another 1 hour before speaking to this person. Pathetic!

Worst customer service ever. Ordered a NG bbq. Sent me a LPG
Send the right order. Simple. Can’t believe they can mix that up waste everyone’s time. Get it right upfront and save the head aches. Ridiculous. Pathetic. Get it right upfront!!

Completely agree with the previous post. I upgraded to business class through a bid (paid not points) and I didn't get any status points for doing so. This is not clearly articulated as part of the bid process. So now I am 8 points short of retaining status benefits, which certainly aren't worth trying for since the scheme doesn't reward effort.

Disappointing
Recently made a bid for an upgrade to Virgin Business Class (Hervey Bay to Sydney) and won the bid. I did enjoy the flight. What I didn’t realise was you get no extra points or status credits. It is a lot extra on top of the fare, whilst still under the price of business class, disappointing not to receive any extra status credits/points at all. I received 7 status credit based on my original fare. Will not make that mistake in the future. Pity they don’t make that info available forehand.

Terrible
First time to claim some points, placed an order in December. No response from third party site “On Sport”. Heard nothing for weeks. Contacted Virgin only to be told wait another two weeks. No one at On Sport returned an email or call for another 2 weeks. Finally they say the product is out out stock and offered to cancel the order. I agreed, now virgin say the product is in transit 3 weeks after it was cancelled. Won’t get points refunded for at least 4 weeks. Looks like this whole mess will take 4 months to resolve if ever.
What is the point of having a store that doesn’t deliver.
FYI. Went on Qantas store and got the same product in 6 days.

Don't believe the hype
Virgin Australia (VA) touts their Velocity frequent flyer programme as award-wining and internationally acclaimed. If you are thinking of aligning with one or the other (Qantas) in Australia, read this first.
I am a Platinum Velocity member and have had that status for two years. As a frequent international business traveller, Velocity simply doesn’t stack up, and the claims Virgin makes are pretty bogus. Allow me to explain:
VA is a small, domestic Australian airline with virtually no international routes. It is not a member of any of the ma...Read more
jor alliances (Star, OneWorld or SkyTeam), and that is unlikely to change. VA is in financial dire straits (so can’t afford alliance membership fees), and its owners (Singapore and Etihad) will not allow it to join an alliance that will cause direct competition to aforesaid owners. So when you fly internationally, even as a high status Velocity member, you will not have access to any of the benefits normally afforded to high status members of StarAlliance, OneWorld, or SkyTeam. That means if you fly economy or premium economy (as I mostly do), when you fly internationally, even on an airline that has a formal alliance with VA, you will not have lounge access abroad, quite often won’t have access to priority boarding, and cannot ever use flyer miles or status credits to upgrade. And as mentioned, when flying abroad, at best you will be on a VA partner (like Singapore, SAA, Hainan, Etihad, or the like). Never on VA itself. It then becomes even more complex: if the flight is booked directly with VA or the partner airline, there might be exceptions to these rules. If the flights are booked through a travel agent, you’re completely excluded from enjoying any benefits usually accorded to high-status frequent flyers.Similar opinion? I LIKE IT
I have just finished reading many poor reviews of Velocity and would like to add a positive one. I have booked overseas business class flights, shopped at Coles and BP, bought their wines and have a family linked card without any problems. My aim was to accumulate points and travel overseas and, so far, have been quite successful in doing so. I appreciate that BP will soon no longer be part of the scheme but I predict a replacement will shortly be offered.

Can you give less than one star?
I had a Velocity account for some years, which was linked to my husband's account. We bought wine specials, flew, used BP etc, then my account simply disappeared. No points and no way to access the records. When I rang them, they denied there was ever an account in my name! Eventually, they sent out two new cards - completely new accounts with of course, no points. I've never used them. Once bitten!

Mixed opinions
The pairing with flybuys I find is good as you can gain status credits by shopping at coles. I have earnt lots of points via flybuys to velocity conversion which i find occurs quickly within munutes. When redeeming recently for a flight i had no dramas in using the points and it went through flawlessly. The bonus of having velocity is that they allow points and status credit pooling to one main account and this allows you to obtain gold/platinum quicker.
The downside that I have encounted is that velocity has reduced the amount of partners it...Read more

Terrible Rewards | Locked my account | can't find flights
Terrible.
- Terrible rewards program with little to no useful "deals". BP is moving away soon so no point in me keeping this membership.
- They locked my account after writing my password wrong three times. Then, when I couldn't answer their security question I had to call them and they asked me to email them my driver's license or passport and that it would take 5 business days to recover my account. Are you serious? Is this a joke? Why are these companies using "security questions" as a way to recover passwords?
- Impossible to find a good/decent flight using only points.
1/10. I'll be moving away from this TERRIBLE point system.

NO points from other airline partners except for Virgin Australia
I flew with other airline partners which could earn points showing on the Velocity website, however, ZERO points at the end after several months, even I claimed online by myself. What's going on?
If customers could not earn eligible points from those airline partners, just move their logo from the website, don't mislead customers.

Can't seem to get my points....
Registered a temporary card and have used BP fuel on at least four occassions since and swiped the card. A month has gone by and still no points showing. No real contact details on their webpage but only a feedback form. Have filled this in over a week ago and no return reply. Awful service; no wonder BP is ditching them.

Poor program for redeeming points
Tried to book a rental car using points and kept getting an error message. When I rang to resolve issue I was transferred to several different operators who obviously follow script and do not have the tools or authority to resolve issue in any meaningful way. Very frustrating and opaque process, and still did not mange to book a car redeeming points after an hour on the phone with the operator finally saying we had a hit a wall and hecould do nothing more to help me

Scam Introduction
Do not trust their program and their partners. I was introduced to E-rewards, a survey website. I did many surveys for months and saved bunch of rewarding points in my account. Then, E-rewards deactivated my account for no reason. I asked for the reason and the evidences for many time. But they ignored. Since E-rewards was introduced by Velocity program and the points could only be redeemed to Velocity points, I contacted Velocity and got the same result. It is a definite scam.

Not a great program
A Platinum member for 10 years; still cannot upgrade using points to Business class for the past 3 years, and a loyal flyer. When I questioned why I have not been upgraded in the past 3 years, the lady on the phone was very condescending, unprofessional and contradictory – an unpleasant experience. I asked her to ‘think about the program’, and the reply was what do ‘YOU’ think should happen. She subtly suggested that I change airlines. Will go back to Qantas.

Expired points and misleading emails
Virgin sent an email 30 days prior that says my points can be expired then 2 days after expiry dates, they sent an email to wish me happy birthday with all my points still intact. I read the email and thought i will wait another week to spend on the discounts they offer for my birthday. Logged in then and found zero points. Called and emailed them, took forever for them to get back to me and didnt reinstate my points. I found this to be misleading. I will never fly virgin or collect their points anymore. I lost 200k points! What a joke virgin

The simplest way would be to click on an 'unsubscribe' link on one of the many numerous emails they send you.
They truly are an awful company. I filled up at BP three times and have NEVER received any points for them. No wonder BP are dropping them in 2020.
