Why has Bunnings pulled the victa 82v electric mower from sale?

Peter, hopefully the Briggs and Stratton team (owners of the Victa brand) can answer this question directly, but my understanding is that has been some problems with a recent batch of batteries. I have been advised that those existing customers with fully operating units have no reason for concern. My mower is working perfectly with no battery issues whatsoever.

I agree mine is working perfectly and glad I didn't buy another brand

Should I still want one after not being able to buy one at Bunnings as I was told it had been recalled ?

I have personally contacted the manufacturer at 1800 356 632 today to inquire what might be the problem and have been informed that there is a batch problem with some of the batteries. I was also informed that if my mower is working ok, the battery is fine and I have no reason to be concerned. This product is truly well worth purchasing (has exceeded my expectations) and if you can continue liaising with the manufacturer and/or your local Bunnings store, it would be worth waiting (hopefully only for a short while) until you are able to purchase a product with the battery working 100% ok

I probably have a different view to Angus. I am a bit disappointed with the Victa because the exit shot blocks quickly with even slightly damp grass so would be inclined to try another brand. Ryobi seems to be liked by a friend but I haven't tried it

I bought mine about a month ago and very happy with it. I often cut wet grass and have no problem. I use one battery and take a 30 minute breather while it recharges because I have such a big backyard. I’d say persist with the manufacture because it’s a great product. You’ll love it too

Here in NW Tassie, Bunnings stopped stocking the Victa 82V range at the Burnie store just after I bought mine there. Wanted more batteries and had to shop online, ended up buying from Henderson Mowers and they have been great to deal with. Also bought the line trimmer and chainsaw from them, So Bunnings missed out. Really not sure why Bunnings would drop this line, given they are probably the best cordless mower available and make petrol mowers look like a bad joke.
Great mower, btw, and the line trimmer has tonnes of power, cuts everything you can throw at it, I use mine to trim the paddock edges, so it has to cut all sorts of woody weeds, does it no problem.

I just bought a Victa 82v Power Cut after my Aldi/Ferrex 51cm Self Propelled Electric Mower died. I don't understand why i could get 45 minutes of mowing out of my cheap Aldi 80v 2ah Mower and I can only get 13 minutes out of my brand new Victa 82v 2ah mower. Is it likely my battery is faulty? Or dose Victa just exaggerate the run time of the mower? The grass wasn't long I just mowed it 5 days ago. I know its not the setting or cut height because I had both mowers set to a slimier medium height. Victa advertise 40 minutes run time and i'm only getting 13 minutes this is a very big difference in my actual run time. Another issue i have is the Bunnings rep that sold the Victa to me said if i buy a second battery i can get continues mowing as it has a 40 minute run time and only takes 30 minutes to rapid charge but my battery dose not charge in 30 minutes as it wants to cool down for 40 minutes to even begin to charge then it took another 40 minutes to charge i would say it has a 80 minute charge time after the battery has been used or 40 minute charge time after it has cooled. What should I do i don't want to return and wast the whole mower if it is just a faulty battery but i also don't want to keep this mower if the battery is fine and this is the actual run time this mower offers.

Hi Evan I bought the 18' 82V lawn mower and I'm very happy with mine. It cuts knee high wet grass with ease and I have no problems with large lawn areas. Mate sounds like the battery or the charger is faulty. Contact Victa service department. Don't discard the lawn mower it self it a tough work horse. I'm sure Victa would help if you contact them with your issues. You got nothing to lose

Hi, I bought ours about a month ago and have used it 4 times. I get 40 approx out of our battery. Sounds like you may have got a dud one. Take it back and exchange. No complaints about ours.

Depends on how long your grass is, sometimes you need to cut twice, but why not phone Victa, they are very helpful.

I would suggest you call Victa, you should be under warranty, I have had no issues with mine, also read the manual and make sure you are using it correctly.

If you have had it less than 5 years it will still be on warranty, call Victa they are very helpful. Also make sure you have clicked the battery in far enough.

Just bought a Victa 82v lawn mower ... replacing my Victa Enviromower (8 years old).
The Enviromower didn't vibrate at all, the Victa 82v has way more power, but does vibrate a bit.
So my question: The Victa 82v vibrates, how do I know if the blades are balanced, or there is excessive vibration?

Mine doesn't vibrate any more than expected

Ok, had a look at some youtube videos about mower vibration, and looked at blades ... was a rough edge on one blade (maybe from hitting concrete edging) ... so ground down the rough bits, and now hardly any vibration ... so SOLVED!

I’ve heard great reviews about this mower and was about to purchase it for $499 at Bunnings then discovered the battery & charger were not include and were an additional $320!!! Yet I haven’t seen any comments here about this and only reference to it being a good deal for $499. Was the battery/charger previously included?? Not sure why people wouldn’t call out that it’s actually an $820 mower

1 answer
Simon
Simon

Because they do include battery and charger.
18 inch has one battery and 21inch has two.
https://www.bunnings.com.au/victa-82v-power-cut-mulch-or-catch-lawn-mower-with-battery_p3381341
A extra battery you can get for $200.
The battery and charger packs are for their other garden tool 82v range.
Mowers definitely have batteries included.
I got one very recently. I was infact in Bunnings today talking with the Victa rep.
Still current model with batteries and charger...so yes it is a great deal.

Does anyone have the Victa (or other manufacturer) part number for replacement swing-back blades?

The blades come in a kit. The part number is CA9241D.

For other part numbers/list, go to Victa website -> Support -> Manuals -> Lawnmowers -> 883241. You can view/download the parts list there.

OK. Bunnings do not stock the blades. Victa are reluctant to answer any question on the subject.
Where do you buy your blade kit?

Same problem with the blades. Tried Victa agents and they can't help, no reply from Victa Australia either. None on Ebay, and Bunnings site links to Flymo LK-FBB1s. Great mower but this is such a pain trying to get useable parts.

The red rectangular thing is the key. Slot it in the same compartment as the battery. Open the battery compartment, the slot is at the bottom left/right.

Hi Im more interested in the mulcher part ... does it do a good job by pushing the clippings into the grass or does it leave mounds? Thanks~

Hi there. As long as the grass is not wet, and you don't take too much off, the mulching plug works very well.

Steve

Hi,

I've found mine to do a great job of mulching although like any mulching mower if you mow very long grass you will get clumps of grass left behind. In that case you can go over it again and this then mulches the clumps. However, I rarely need to do this with my mower. It seems to have plenty of power to neatly mulch my lawn.

The only issue I have is on very thick and spongy buffalo lawn the mower is harder to push than my old petrol mower.

Steve

I agree on the last point. However I can't see why this is happening. However buffalo/Kikuyu is environmentally unfriendly due to its spreading habit. So I'm thinking a Zero type of fertilizer for it really soon.

Can anyone tell me please is the motor 1000w or is it 1200w like the 21''. Also is it a full chute or half chute at the rear?
Thanks in advance Drew

3 answers
Simon
Simon

The chute is a half chute, the mower comes with a plastic insert to block the chute and make the mower mulch the grass or you can operate just without catcher.
Cant find the motor specification anywhere, however from the run time etc. its a 1200w motor same as the 21 inch? but don't quote me on this.
Victa have still not posted details on their web site, even after two phone calls and a survey I filled in from their web site.

Drew
Drew

Thanks Simon I did eventually get an answer from Victa who said It,s a full chute 1000w motor.

bartoli
bartoli

The motor/battery/charger is actually a Briggs & Stratton 82Li series unit
https://www.briggsandstratton.com/na/en_us/product-catalog/engines/push-mower-engines/82li-series.html
Their spec page says the motor is rated at 1,200 W.
During normal usage the controller runs the motor at a lower speed (presumably to maximise battery run time) however the motor steps up to a high speed (maybe full motor rating?) when the mower encounters very thick grass.

So how much lawn do you think the 2 Amp battery would get through?

4 answers
Aussieidiot
Aussieidiot

Hi Bob,
If you're only using the lawn mower (not the trimmer and blower as well), the battery would probably do a about 80-100 sqm of well maintained lawn. If the lawn is a little longer it may be half that, but I'd be guessing.
I've been trying to get rid of some weeds, and mowing the lawn two or three times a week to get the buffalo to spread out more than grow up. So far I have mowed my 50sqm 3 times on one battery and it still has some charge. But that's only trimming the grass and taking about an half an inch off.

Have Sir Walter and it grows very thick in summer the 82V Victa cuts it with ease
can mow the front and backyard, large footpath and the two neighbours footpaths about 310sqm
and I still have one light level left on the Briggs & Stratton lithium-ion battery

Bob
Bob

Hi all. Thanks for your answers. I couldn't wait so I went out and bought it!
On it's first run I did the whole lawn front and back. 2 bars left! I ran it for a few more minutes to tidy some patches and it finally went down to 1 bar.
My lawn is about 200 m2. I have the 2AH battery.

Okay thanks for that, maybe it is exclusive to Bunning's, my 17 year old will be doing my mowing, he insists on electric, great they put a cheaper version out than the bigger one which sells for $700.
