Requires heavy modification to function as intended.
I bought a Victa Corvette Commercial mower in March, 2016 to replace a Honda Commercial model (see my other review). I managed to sell the Honda and with the cash I went and bought this model. Having had an older model Victa Corvette before, I thought I knew what I was getting. It was a dependable mower with a good engine, cut great but unfortunately the base and handles cracked and fell apart after 3 years of solid use. Fair enough I said.
$780 later I bring home my new mower. Assembled and oiled, I started first go out of the box. Impressive...Read more

I bought my Corvette in 2005 and it's still kickin on! So pleased with how long it has lasted and the blades are still in excellent condition and are still cutting well. There are so many different settings on it which is great for me as I like my grass as short as possible! I find it really quite easy to maneuver and not to heavy to push - my young daughter can even mow the lawns easily by herself! Overall I'm super happy with this mower, especially how long it has lasted me.

11 years and still running strong, but had started cutting uneven despite new blades
Bought new in late 2004, I have just retired in late 2015 my Victa Corvette 400. It had the Briggs and Stratton Quantum XM50 engine. Still started easy, like real easy ... prime it a few times, and give it a pull or maybe two and away she went. Never had any mechanical issues, it ran like a a dream, despite neglect (I think the oil had been changed twice in 11 years, air filter maybe twice, spark plug once). Blades were changed every couple of years.
BUT, it had started cutting the lawn unevenly even after new blades. Problem started about 1...Read more
2 months ago. I ended up diagnosing the problem as "spring" in the chassis with movement of over 40mm (about 1 1/2 inch) at the front, which would cause the mower to cut the lawn unevenly. I could "correct" the problem by lifting the handles as I mowed and by double mowing sections of the lawn, which was adding too much time to each weeks "chore", so it was time to retire the old girl. (i.e. decided not to put money into repairing and 11 year old mower) The mower had been used mainly on couch lawn. Last 5 years in Northern NSW and prior to that on the Sunshine Coast in QLD. I take pride in my lawns and often receive comments on how great they look - the Victa Corvette, with it's 19" cut had done a grea job for many years, but had started to hack them with an uneven cut due to the "chassis" wear. I looked into new bushes, front axle and chassis spring but with quotes of $150 for the work it seemed uneconomical to spend that money on a mower that was 11 years old. It still worked fine, and so was sold for $75 to some people who were looking for an old banger for their needs. I'm sure it will still be running in another 11 years, just not cutting lawns to my standard.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Won't get second time around
My Corvette lasted six years. After first few mows the plastic top cover kept falling off, so tossed it. Pushing up slope of lawn over years handles snapped off numerous times. We just welded it back on with metal plates in place. The mower frame has snapped off base to wheels couple times also. Thank heavens hubby is a welder! Cheap inferior materials.

great lawn mower
I own a Victa Corvette 450, had it for a few years now is a very powerful mower despite its small engine compared to other mowers and others in the Corvette Range it can easily cut your average length lawn on idle! Can adjust the cutting deck from 11mm to 75mm and at full throttle cuts even the thickest of grass with ease! My suggestion if you purchase the mower is to buy a second set of blades and attach to the mower it has 4 holes for 4 blades but only has 2 blades from.factory! 4 blades make it alot more efficent, great lawn mower cannot see...Read more
myself upgrading to anything else for a long time, also the 450 also ones with a PROPER Plastic catcher and its quite a large catcher at that..also can buy a side shoot attatchment if you don't to use a catcher and don't want grass all over your feet! its a Victa so the quality is good nothing really!Similar opinion? Not good
Brought the mower in January 2011. Average mowing time. Mower plastic pulley disintegrated and now needs replacing. Apparently still under warrantee but retailer wants the whole mower. Pulled the machine apart myself and for the sake of $28 will repair myself. Not as good as my old Victa two stroke. Will not buy this Victa again.

Disappointed customer
Mower only just 2 years old, I have normal sized yard, also no dirt, no dust. Where the handle is attached to the mower body keeps working loose, and has to be constantly retightened, and the steel handle has now snapped in two at the attachment point - obviously inferior, poor quality steel used.
I am almost 60 years old, and mowing for many years with Rover mowers and have never had this happen before. This is my first Victa mower purchase and I agree with previous reviewer's assessment that this is certainly not a top quality product f...Read more

Very disappointed
Getting on a bit so I decided to get a reliable, self mulching mower. Had good experiences with Victa in the past so I thought the 500 series would be a good buy, Wrong. Have had problems from the start. Had to replace the throttle in the first month. The petrol cap is in a ridiculous position jammed between the cable and the tank. Now the height raising lever has come loose. It was only when I took off the wheel to try and fix it that I realised how badly made the new mowers are. Everything is put together with rivets. Will be buying a new mower but not a Victa.
Nice colour
Badly designed in many ways.

Victa Corvette 725 GMS484 4 Stroke Push Mower
After being a 2 stroke man my entire life, the day came where my Victa Commando 2 stroke mower overheated one time too many and I could not get her to start again. I called for help to the one man I knew would not pull a bag over my head.....
My brother-in-law is one of those fellows who can do absolutely anything with mechanical things (trust me he has saved me literally hundreds of dollars on doing things such as wheel bearing replacements, starter motor installations, etc), I sought out his skills on fixing the 2 stroke, which he did with...Read more
out hesitation...and after he took out the spark plug, pulled the cord and we watched as fuel shot out from where the spark plug once was until the mower started again.....he gave me some advice.... My brother-in-law convinced me that 4 stroke was the way to go for a few reasons: 1) The carby on the old Victa 2 strokes was always troublesome; 2) 4 stroke mowers do not overheat easily; 3) The neighbours (as well as myself) would appreciate the level of quietness a 4 stroke offers over a 2 stroke; 4) A big CC motor will make for an easy cutting mower.Similar opinion? Corvette 650. Worth the extra $.
Had in mind a mower for about $500. This mower although not top of the line is definitely working for its value. The part that sets this from the others in this range is the Cast iron cylinder sleeve. Also has a thicker steel deck. It is not alloy but it would take a while for this steel to wear out. paid $590. Had this for about a year now... would still buy the same. Ideal for a medium to large lawn. takes me about 20 mins for front and back yard, including time to unload the catcher.
No priming, easy start. works everytime, Mulch mower is a real time saver, quick release handles.
Little bit more pricey compared to others within this range.

Great for standard suburban yard
I have had this unit for a year and it starts first time every time. Its 4 stroke so i dont have to muck around with 2 stroke fuel. I have a normal suburban yard with grass. No dirt no dust just grass and it cuts it great every time either in mulch or catch mode. In summer i mow it once a week so its never really long. Its not noisy as some. I read a comment about the fuel cap and i can see that it could be designed easier to remove as the throttle cable is near the cap but in reality the cap is not a problem to remove.
Reliable, Easy to use, Price is reasonable

excellent! The value for money out of this beast is great. Industrial strength motor, heaps of power
Bought this beast for $570. The question is why would you spend $800+ on a honda! this machine does the exact same job if not better, just as reliable if not better seeing as the have been doing it for the last 100 years, easier to get parts for because briggs and stratton are one of the biggest lawnmower manufactures now that they own victa and masport. The rovers are a chinese motor but the top of the range rover has a b&s motor in it. The mulching is amazing i have a 900 sqm block and i mowed it without the catcher on, just the mulcher and i...Read more
completed it in about 20 minutes, could not even tell the difference without the catcher on. I now have a machine if looked after that will at least last me 20 years! the victa solid steel chassis and 8 inch ball bearing wheels, well its a victa! enough said. good as gold. all the above!! sales rep trying to sell me a honda for 800-900-1000 bucks3 comments
I agree the engine is great and will last you 20 years plus, but the steel cutting deck may rust away in 5 to 10 years.
Should have gone for alloy cutting deck like Honda mowers have, also Victa wheels are not what they used to be back 30 years ago.
Yeah I bought the top victa 2 stroke and the alloy chassis is awesome with the wash port.
The Victa 2 stroke engine is the best engine!!!!!!!!!!!!... Read more

Excellent
Fantastic mower. I was looking not to pay this much for a mower but for the $100 or so diffrence btween the mower i was looking at to this one,, well worth the extra money. More power than u need and extremly good cut,, the mulch part I was skeptical about at first but now its a fantastic piece of kit, built with quality in mind..
Dont hesitae to Buy I paid $649.00 AUD for mine.
Cheers
All steel, has power to burn,, balanced very well, dont even know your pushing it. Starts first time everytime, nothing tinning about this mower very well made. Have nothing but praise about this mower. Ball bearing whels are very smooth and troulbe free. Very good on petrol.
Absoluty nothing, no bad bits at all.

6.5HP DOV Briggs & Stratton engine is what make this mower so good, its got power to spare, would be even better on 19" an alloy cutting deck with upgraded Victa wheels. will and should last 20 years plus.
The DOV engine is arguable the most reliable engine Briggs and Stratton have ever made
They are so easy to start and don't play up and keep going and going and going

Terrible
I've had 21 years stirling service out of the smokey/noisy old 2-stroke Victa Commando and looked forward to Victa's 21st Century super-mowers. Sadly disappointed Victa, sadly disappointed. Not just for my own sake, or that of my family, but for the whole of Australia as a lawn-mowing nation.

Good
Got this mower on special from believe or not harvey norman and I am very pleased with it. It has both multching and catching functions, and 4 blades making for easy quick cutting. The multching function doesn't always give you the best multch but for the price it is a good mower. Easy to start, first go every time and it looks good. Best of all it doesn't send you deaf every time you use it unlike other mowers I have used.
Mulching or Catching, 4 blades for quicker cutting, reasonably quite, 3 year warranty, starts first go.
Multching could be better

Mower good, service poor
Had a issue with the engine running rough, sighted fuel leak at intake manifold, took 7 month old mower to local Victa Gold dealer (place of purchase), charged to fix even though under warranty (only used about 12 times). Used 3 times since, same problem again, contacted Victa Australia no response thanks! Had a look myself, oring on the intake manifold shot, never installed properly. $2 fix and 10 minutes of work. Not good enough Victa
Mulch catch option, works well when running, Ausie icon, dealer network
Had a problem and got very poor service all round

Good
Very good, I'm impressed so far. My only concern is how long the steel chasis will last. I'm cutting 600 sq mxm twice to date(every second week).
Cuts well. So far, starts first time
Catcher may bounce off on rough terrain(occurred once) Not as well balanced as my older VC160 when empty.

Excellent Aussie Mower
Bought this mower 9 months ago to replace an old Victa 550 self-propelled. I looked at lots of different brands at the time but the victa came up best on price and features. If you are looking at mowing a large size area then this mower is spot on. Works great with the catcher or with the mulch plug.
Thought I would do an update on the above review.
Mower is now 6 years old, still starts first time every time and I mean every time.
I mow approx 500 sq meters every 7 to 10 days throughout the year, it will handle wet grass but I normally mow when it is dry.
I change the oil, air filter and blades once a year and thats it.

Hey when you said that the other mower that the other guy reviewed which was the Victa Tornado 500 that mower had a 2 and 4 stroke option so he had the 2 stroke option which was the VEX60 engine.
