VW Passat 1999 1.9 TDi FWD / When i first bought this car i was surprised that it didn't feel like a station wagon at all. Mine was only a Highline i think, interior had premium feeling for car of its age, no squeaking plastic panels. The Alltrack Passat is very smooth, quiet to drive and handles surprisingly well through the hills, we bought one recently and really impressed with the economy even though it has the diesel gate software update. We bought it used with 55k kms for a good price. We average around 6.5 combined hwy and city driving, a bit more than the catalogue states at 5.9L combined, I suspect this is from the diesel gate mod. This car consumes an average of 1.6 litres of recommended oil between service intervals and deposits soot all over the boot of the vehicle, particularly noticeable as mine is white. My vehicle has also consumed 600 mls of coolant in 6 months/ 40000 klms despite being back to the dealership 3 times to find the cause to no avail. I was told at the dealership it was normal for coolant to need topping up. Last time it went from max level in the reservoir to minimum in 10000 klms meaning i have to take it in to be refilled between service intervals....Read more

Good gone Bad! In pursuit of world domination! Once good value now Vv. Poor. All new vehicle sales staff completely changed.... why? Prices getting ridiculous now too! Audi prices. Cost of Joining the Master Race ain't cheap Right?
Wife's car was 'Given' a 60,0000k service BUT VW had traveled Only 50k! Cost $1,100! @&#%. NB. Capped price was $800ish but still Charged over $ 200 just for the oil alone (5litres of Standard oil that they chose). Will BYO next time. Lots of stuff 'checked' over. Little real work!

Driving experience: Plenty of power, great road handling, reasonably quiet, lots of luxury - a charm to drive;
Consumables: using (mainly long distance driving) roughly 6 liters diesel / 100 km plus roughly 1 liter oil / 10,000 km (more than our other cars, but still acceptable)
Reliability:Ouch. We bought a 10 year old car (with 160k km) and learned the hard way that this seems to be the engineered life span. Replaced so far (in the first 16 months of holding): fuel pump (one grand and a bit), compressor for the A/C (another grand and a bit)...Read more

I chose this car after testing a company car for a few months and being overall very impressed. I has been a nice, satisfying car to own with zero reliability issues in this first 50,000km.

Drive Experience: Easy to drive, great acceleration and handling, good comfort and visibility. Fuel economy is approx 7-8L/100km mostly city driving. Generally the best driving experience I've had in a road car of this class, aside perhaps from the Audi equivalent which is a cut above. First off, this is a great drivers car - handles well and flexible turbo engine. It's extremely well appointed with both luxury and technology. I have the Luxury and R-Line pack and there is not much else you can get for the money in this class.

I've had the car 6 months and already had numerous faults including:
1. Engine Oil Light after 8000Km, currently consuming 100ml per 1000Km which for a brand new car is appalling. I change cars every 3 years and I've never had any of my other cars need an oil top up between services.

Got Passat B8 MY17 2.0 TDI with luxury pack. Inside out great for the price tag. Powerful 2.0 Diesel engine. Layout great, comfort great, features great, with message chair. I had Q7(MY11), A6(MY14), Amarok(MY13), LC200(MY11) and I did not think of Passat the first place. It is not as quite as Audi, and the sound system Audi is better (S-line), other than that, I rate it better than Audi, especially for similar luxury and power of A6, I paid $30k less.

In 2008, we decided to downsize from our Holden Commodore and have a diesel engine with auto gearbox. No Australian-built vehicle matched this spec so we finally decided on a VW Passat.

Worst purchase we have ever made.

Although it drives well and has some good features, the cost of servicing and spare parts is horrendous. Pretty much for each service we kiss $1,000 goodbye.

After a very short period the windscreen washer seized up which cost almost $500 to have replaced.

Now, with only 48,000 klms from brand new, the fuel injectors have completely carked it and the cost to have them replaced is almost FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS.

Hi to all, did buy 6 months ago new top if the range Vw Passat 140tdi R-line!
What an excellent car, it has every possible option being R-line model.
Looks stunning in white with black grill and black roof including sunroof with 19 inch wheels and LED lights all round!
Being diesel means excellent on fuel, round town showing 6.0-6.1 liter per 100kms on open road only 4.9l!
It's fast enough for diesel 7.7sec 0-100!
Did changed around 12 cars in last 20 years but this one is the best so far if you include power-looks-consumption and all luxu...Read more
