Great quality vehicle
The first thing I noticed was how quiet the car was, there is a feeling of the Touareg being strong and very powerful yet with minimal noise inside from the 3 liter diesel. The interior is very comfortable and well laid out, the only thing we found was it takes time to get used to the indicators and wiper controls are switched around compared to most other cars. Fuel economy is excellent, our first tank full (85ltrs) got us approx 1000kms, with a mixture of highway and city driving. It will also take time to get used to the stop/start feature, ...Read more
that being when stopped the engine switches off and start up when you release the brake, but this can be turned off. Overall I am very happy with the car and am yet to use it for towing our van. The 3.5 ton ability is another reason to consider the Touareg.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

EGR can be a problem and expensive
Excellent car but watch the EGR value /cooler clogging - very expensive to replace. VW told me that it clogs to due city short trip, driving. Hello ? Living in Melbourne what do we do ? OK occasional weekends away but really driving to work /shopping are pretty regular things. VW need to adjust settings to accomodate regular Australian driving. I have made a note to drive the car on the freeway once a month to "clean it out"

Quality motor vehicle
Always a joy to drive with excellent handling, cornering stability, sufficient acceleration with luxury leather interior. Quiet and powerful. Economical to run and service. 7.2 litres per 100k on a long trip Average $350.00 per year for services. Had to change tyres at 45,000 k's
Negative would be the spare tyre which is just an emergency tyre.
Bit tight to enter with the low roof line but got used to it.
Comfy electric leather seats.
Vehicle has been totally reliable so have taken out extended 6 year warranty after the 3 year warranty finished last year.

The Ultimate Four Wheel Drive
I have been the owner and driver of numerous 4 wheel drive vehicles, including Range Rovers, Nissans and Toyotas, dating back to the 1970's and I can honestly say that the Touareg is the best vehicle of its kind I have ever owned. It runs quietly, towing our caravan with ease, and handles extremely well in all conditions. Its comfort, safety features and the finish, both interior and exterior, are of a high quality. Added to all of these luxury details it is also economical to run. To sum up, it's my "Super Car"!!

Love that Car
This car has it all, beautiful to drive, adaptive cruise control is great as is the 360* view, so comfortable.
Panoramic sunroof. I love the way the seats move according to key used to open, the only thing that it doesn't have but should have is air conditioned seats. It tows our caravan like a dream.

Best All-round SUV
I heard that VW sell these at a loss and and make up the difference with the Porsche and Audi variants. True or not my Touareg is a fantastic wagon. The performance is tremendous for an SUV through a combination of power (180kw/550nm) and the ultra smooth (8 speed) transmission. Handling is great, that being said, mine is an R-Line with slightly stiffer suspension and larger wheels (20 inch). The brakes are also very strong, too. I tow a 2.5 tonne boat up some steep winding hills (15% in places) and the Touareg handles it with ease. As a tow wa...Read more
gon it is much better than my Landcruiser. They actually have a larger wheelbase and track than a 200 series Landcruiser which keeps them very stable with a big load. It has many features (keyless entry, etc) and a good gps touchscreen infotainment system, the seats are really comfy and there is plenty of space. If you are looking for a luxury SUV that drives almost like a sports car and tows better than a Landcruiser for a price of a Prado then I suggest looking at one of these. Mine has now done 56,000km and has never had any issues whatsoever.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Touareg 2016 V6 TDI
Bought my Touareg new in September 2016 after owning 2 Nissan Navara utes for the last 8 years. I wanted something more comfortable than the ute and it needed to be able to pull our caravan. Unfortunately Nissan no longer make a diesel wagon that will tow 3 - 3.5t. I drove a Fortuner - too noisy and a hard ride. Drove the Pajero Sport and would have bought one if the dealer had wanted to do a deal. The Touareg however is in another league. Very comfortable, well equipped and plenty of torque for towing and grunt for overtaking from the lovely s...Read more
ix cylinder diesel. To drive, you wouldn't know it was a diesel as its so quiet. Fuel consumption averages 7.4 litres/100km but on the highway i can get down to 6.1 and over 1000km from a tank full. Towing our 2.8t van, it drops to 13 - 14 litres/100km. With the seats folded down, i got a full sized hot water tank in it so plenty of carrying space. The rear seats slide forward to increase the boot space, but they also slide back and recline to improve passenger comfort. Never thought heated seats were an attractive option in Queensland but they are great for a bad back. Its done 11,000km now and so far so good. Hope the servicing from VW is as good as the service i received from Nissan. Watch this space for an update.1 comment

Best car I've ever owned.
Have been driving euro cars for many years including Mercedes ML320 and BMW X5 and can honesty say the Touareg is in a class of its own, not that it doesn't have its niggles, but very minor. Powerful and smooth with amazing fuel consumption, have now covered 50,000 Kim's with an average fuel consumption on the highway around 7.2lts per 100 Kim's, best was 6.8lts, that has to put a smile on your dial. Seats and interior is comfy with easy to use instrumentation, Service costs are actually cheaper that my Father in laws Mitsubishi ASX. Highly recommended.

Comfort, Drive, Practical
I spent a long time researching and test driving cars before selecting this one. My major requirements was to have a large comfortable interior size for family touring yet still be small enough for city driving and parking. Other options were Mercedes GLC which had better tech but was smaller, Q5 smaller, Volvo xc60 smaller, X3 smaller and expensive when optioned, X5 was nice and good size but more money than budgeted, Kluger ticked boxes but did not handle or drive as well as the others.
Positives: Quality build and soft touch surfaces all...Read more
well laid out. Instrument cluster and dials look great. All the interior and exterior lighting is great and the newly designed DRL's are one of the sexiest on the road. For me the seats are probably the most comfortable I've tested right up there next to Volvo's. Kids will like the back seats as they have vents and good visibility out the windows. It has a great turing circle and drives and handles tight and precisely. When pushed it's exciting to drive and you can almost feel it's shared Porche Cayenne DNA. Boot space is large and easily swallows prams, ikea boxes etc Negatives: The central RNS 850 computer infotainment system is good but a step down in tech compared to whats in some of the more newly designed volkswagens. The stereo system sound is above average but not exceptional and VW Australia doesn't offer the Dynaudio upgrade that other countries get. Whats I find bizarre and a little frustrating is that VW doesn't subscribe to live traffic updates in australia and they don't support DAB+ radio which for 2016 is odd when you can get that tech in many cheaper japanese cars.Similar opinion? Nice car? But I will never buy another one!
I have the 2012 180Kw with 4Motion, the performance and drive of this car is great, noise within cabin is great and the Audio system is awesome, but the reliability of the car is very poor for a $100K plus car, and the general support from VW customer care is not good enough. You may ask why I rate the car so poorly, the motor has come out three times for oil leaks, (the second removal and repair lasted 11 days before it was leaking again) the computer system has failed and had to be replaced, taking 3 weeks for the dealer to recode the system....Read more
The car continues to fail, safety systems work when they want to, cruise control "what is this feature?" this has been one of the most unreliable features in the car, as soon as any safety system does not work correctly, the cruise control shuts down. I've also lost count how many times the central locking system has failed, and the auto function on the windows, now don't use the navigation system for anything that requires you to get there on time as its logic is useless. Now if VW Australia had taken the time to listen and support their customers when something goes wrong then this story would have not gone so badly but to have a car off the road for 26 weeks in VW workshops is not good enough. #Touaregs fail in big ways2 comments

An excellent touring vehicle with genine off-road credibilty
I have 2014 4XMotion fitted with the 8 speed low range gearbox, diff locks and adjustable air suspension. This is an extremely capable off-road tourer with torque to burn especially when pulling a van. Great silent comfort and a top performer. The off-road software works extremely well in concert with the adjustable suspension and will embarrass many noted off-roaders. A terrific car with lots of class.

As comfortable as a mobile lounge chair with great performance and road handling.
Can drive this car all day and finish with no tiredness or aches. The multiple seat adjustments allow all types to find the perfect position for driving. As a tall person, the large seats with lots of legroom make driving a pleasure. Relations of mine commented how quite and smooth the car drove down the highway.

Great car, very happy!
I waited six months after I purchased the car before posting a review to ensure I was being fair and had adequate opportunity to test the car under different circumstances. The car has been very impressive, quiet, smooth, responsive (heaps of torque) and economical. A brilliant tow vehicle without the bulk of other 3 tonne towing capacity vehicles and when not being used as a tow vehicle drives more like a sporty sedan than a floaty SUV.

How disappointing, my new 2014 Touareg is a lemon
Purchased new in July 2014 my Touareg 150 Tdi is a great car to drive. So excited I was. Comfortable, efficient well though out and driver friendly. Trouble is, it doesn't go anywhere. Since 45k the car has been off the road around ten weeks with. Oil seal leak between motor and gearbox, idle issues, fuel issues, stalling, ecu problems, glow plugs dying, stalling in traffic, missing and a litany of other, undetermined fuel supply, control type issues. Now the latest is they don't know what's wrong with it. So off the road for another two weeks ...Read more
so far. Dealer has been helpful but I have been driving around in a crappy Triton ute, hire cars and general cars not worth anywhere near $65k, the price of my car. So somehow my money has been gleefully accepted by vw but I get a lemon. Where is the justice in that. Disgraceful car so new can be so. Terrible. No one wants to buy them with the pollution stuff. So resale is nightmare too. Finally vw Australia is involved lets see what that does not sure why it took them so long to show an interest surely this car would be flagging all bells. My friends and neighbours think it's a joke, an embarrassment as they never see me in my car lately. They all laugh at me and feel it's a disgrace that vw can make such a crap car and we have no recourse for a refund. Any other product you would just ring up and they would replace it under consumer law. Somehow. Cars are immune from that. Imagine paying for all this work. Luckily under warranty but I just want out. Had an Audi Q5 before 180k before it died. Hard life dirt roads. Great car never off the road fir more than two days, once in 7 years. Trouble is no audi dealer where I live in port Macquarie so thought vw having a local dealer would be the go.1 comment

Fantastic Vehicle
Previous Touareg 2012 TDI V6. This is my 2nd Touareg, very surprising how good the fuel economy is 8.8l/100 at 110km. I've checked speedo and is only out 1kmh, doing 99@100 compared to 96@100 in V6TDI. I was offered a very good trade in on my original one at 83k km 3 years old. In relation to my first one Servicing differs from dealer to dealer. Best and cheapest service was at Sunshine Coast QLD.
Still early days to give review on this one as only done 1500km and 3 weeks old. VW touareg purchased to tow 23ft caravan.

Great car. Dishonest dealer service.
I have no complaints about my Touareg. Best car I have owned. On long trips it reduces driver fatigue by half compared to my previous wheels. And low fuel bills are remarkable for a car of this size and solid build.
Services during the warranty period by official VW dealerships are another story. They tick everything off as being checked and refilled as necessary, but shortly afterwards I discover that essential basics like the windscreen washer tank are completely empty. Negligence? More like pure dishonesty. Complaints about the service sent to Volkswagen Australia have never been answered, which simply adds insult to injury.

ior standing up to a couple of kids as well. Service costs reasonable (again another reviewer quoting $15k!!! maybe they meant 1.5K even that is more than I am being charged for major service. Anyhow if you can afford to buy you should be able to afford to service!! Being in the trade I know the value of dealer servicing. Time for an update now that I have had the car for 4 years (120,000km) Still love driving it. Have had some issues with it but they have been dealt with. Front diff replaced due to a whine developing engine/transmission removed due to rear main seal leaking. Had an annoying low speed rear suspension rattle that took time to get to the bottom of and fix. All jobs done under warranty and apparently can be common issues. Getting 60k from front brakes and 120k from rear typical European car in the discs also need to be replaced. Tip don't panic when the disc pad warning light comes on there is still meat left on the pads and I went about another 6,0000km before changing out but that depends on driving style. Conti tyres giving 80k so happy with all that. Doing brakes myself as have saved good money buying quality aftermarket parts. Still handles like a dream and good on fuel. No rattles and squeaks Service pricing is a bit high but protecting my investment.Purchased in September 2021.

Both are great vehicles. Miss some features from the first like opening tailgate window, abundance for storage pockets and centre armrest arrangement however new 8 speed gearbox and few more kW in the new one allow for an performance drive when required and improved consumption of 2lt/100km.

Can you fit HR anti sway system to the Touareg?
Thanks
2 answers
Hi Geoff,
I assume the 150 Touareg has not got air suspension. I had weight distribution bars and anti sway on my previous 2009 Touareg which did not have air suspension and it worked well. Volkswagen don’t recommend it for air suspension models. Cheers Ian
Unfortunately it does have air suspension, the anti sway system has provided very efficient on 3 occasions and I would be reluctant to tow a van without one. Thanks for your answer

Hi All,
I am hoping to buy Touareg V6 version, but 2-3 year old, since I am buying second hand one what should be Aproximate Km should I expect ? and also is there big difference in V6 vs 150 element?
Thanks
Arvin

Arvin
Km's depends on the past owner.
As a rule of thumb, most Australians drive about 25,000 k's per year (give or take a bit). I bought a 2nd hand Treg at 90,000 and is doing really well. Probably because of the deisel engine.
Both have the same engine. The V6 label is usually reserved for the model with air bag suspension, the 150 being standard steel springs. The V6 has more 'goodies' in the car and so is more enjoyable to drive. For example, all V6's have powered tailgate's, but some 150's didn't.
Both are great to drive, but the V6 luxuries make the drive more enjoyable. Also, a few 4XMotion examples of the V6 are around. They have a 4WD function as well as the SUV 'all WD'.
Cheers
Touregs in Australia are all V6. There’s 150kw and 180. For towing recommend 180. As to km’s will vary greatly ideally no more than 30-40,000. Price will vary according to km’s.

Seriously looking at a 2015 Touareg. Will be using to tow a Caravan in out of the way places and wonder about servicing in country towns? The last thing I would want is to find, would be to a have a mechanical or electrical issue 100's of miles from a major centre to find I am stuck without parts or service.
Your feedback would be greatly appreciated.

First thing I would do is find out all genuine VW dealers and service centers. Then find out all other mechanics that claim VW repair capability.
I would also check out and look out at Amarok bulletin boards. Amarok is a favorite serious off road Ute from VW. If Amaroks can get serviced/repaired then most likely Touregs would as well.
Hope this helps as I don’t believe there is a 100% guarantee anywhere out bush. Even a dealer you
May have to wait for parts. Then again reliability on these cars is very good in my opinion.

Just had its 90,000 km service and still going strong. Done a few trips with the caravan now and the whole setup performs really well. The 8sp auto box never seems to be hunting for the right gear. Very happy with it.
