Worth buying
Before to this we had another portable air conditioner which is not good in this extreme 35oc heat.
This is very good and enough for a single bedroom. No problems with it and easy to drain and connect to window for old houses.
We can also use it as heater in winter.

Absolute garbage
Bought this unit for a disabled friend of mine. Sadly had no idea it had a 2 metre 6inch wide hose to be vented outside. I didnt know what the window kit was about that was mentioned in the specs. Not sure how you would attach the hose and kit to a window that winds outwards. And how is this a portable unit if you have to move window kits and hoses around whenever you want to move the unit which by the way, whilst on wheels, its still a 40kg unit. Not to mention having to empty the water tray periodically. Sadly now fighting Dick Smith as they ...Read more
dont want to refund money just offer a store credit AND they want me to pay for freight for a 40kg package. After a few emails back and forth, i decided to ring the helpdesk. No surprise, sorry, send us an email. Is it any wonder Dick Smith went broke...in the hands of the ACCC

Works as advertised
Had it for a year and am quite happy with it. My house has a split system air conditioner but it's right at the other end of the house, and the evening sun heats up the wall of my room quite a bit, so my room used to reach 35-40C on summer afternoons even with a fan to help circulate the cool air in. I had to pay a little attention to sealing up the windows so that the air it draws in comes from the house rather than outside, and with that it works great, keeps my room at a comfortable 21-23C all day long, and hasn't had a dramatic impact on my...Read more
power bill. It is a little noisy, but better than most others i've seen. I usually turn it up a few degrees when going to bed so it shuts up until i'm asleep. No problems with water collecting while being used in cooling mode, but in heating mode it fills up quite quickly, needing to be emptied at least once a week, even once a day when its humid. It comes with a plastic hose, but the outlet is right near the bottom of the unit and the water only flows out from gravity, so you can't loop this hose up and out the window, and can't have it drain into a bucket unless you raise the unit up off the floor. I attached a small water pump ($3 from china) to the outlet to pump the water up and out my window so it never needs emptying anymore. My only real gripe is that the price at Kogan has skyrocketed. I got this unit a year ago for $279 but now they sell it for $500-$800.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

on for 6 hours and it is hotter inside with it on
It's hotter than before I closed the room up and cooler outside. Why? I just spent $430 at Bunnings. Is this a bad model. Had it on for 6 hours and the room is still the same as before, if not hotter than before because I have it sealed and yes I have installed it properly

Get a window unit instead!
These units are not very efficient no matter who makes them, as they need outside air coming into the room, so it can exhaust it out the vent, so you will need a door ajar, or a window open a bit. What this means is this, in summer, you will be sucking hot air in from somewhere outside your room, and in winter you will be sucking cold air into the room. There is no way to avoid this, it is how these things work. I gave up for the heat cycle as it was sucking way too much cold air into the room and a simple $90 4 bar electric heater, is way more...Read more
efficient for my room, and didn't need any door or window open, and it's quiet, unlike this Vostok. Your power bill will definitely rise a decent amount if you use these types of a/c's over an extended time. Also, be aware the the exhaust hose radiates heat into your room, so the longer it is, the more heat will be exchanged back into your room. I have covered my exhaust hose with a towel, and it does help, but even the towel gets quite warm. Pros - Can cool down a small room to around 10 degrees lower than ambient, but it's limit is tested on 35+ degree days. 38+ degrees and it won't turn off the compressor, it simply cannot deal with the heat being sucked in from outside sources. Cons - Needs to suck outside air into the room so it can exhaust it. - Is clunky when the compressor kicks in, don't expect to use this in your bedroom. - Doesn't display the current room temperature. - Is noisy in a small room.Similar opinion? does the job but needs to be drained quite often
heating well and less noisy than the other portable air con we had though probably won't want to sleep in the same room. Needs to be drained really frequently though which is a hassle as it can't be done by just one person given the weight - we ended up elevating on a table to be able to drain directly into a bucket - drains by gravity and hole is at the bottom.

Love it!
Best portable air conditioner we've ever owned!
It's powerful and you can start to feel the temp difference within 10-15mins in the living room... it's also surprisingly quiet! It's awesome with it's reverse cycle too, heating and cooling work just aswell as each other (:
The remote is also a great feature, highly reccomend to anyone seeking a reverse cycle unit!

It performs well but is very noisy. I haven't receive an electricity bill yet.
I bought this portable air conditioner with full knowledge of the limitations of these devices and hoping to check whether the claims made about them were true. I think the name 'air conditioner' is rather inappropriate because all they really do is move heat from one part of a house to another. They actually do what they are claimed to do quite well, ie.,, heat or cool one room. ..but in doing so, they cause outside air to replace the expelled air, thus cooling or heating the rest of the house to some extent. When used to cool a room, if the e...Read more
xpelled air is not hotter than that outside, then it is better not to expel it at all. Likewise, when used to pump heat into a room, the expelled air should be cooler than that outside or the efficiency will be low. When used as a heat pump, the Vostok does the job but is too noisy to have in a bedroom. I actually cut a hole in a wall for its air to blow through and put it in a hallway to cut down the noise, thus worming a larger area. I cannot believe the manufacturers could not improve on its noise output. The fan speed cannot be changed on mine during heating. I have not tried the cooling ability but cooling is always expensive whichever method used.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Surprisingly OK
Had no real expectations buying a no-name brand from Kogan but it turned out OK. We really needed a solution to the heat in the front room of our rental property and this did well. It's nowhere near as good as built in air conditioning but it took the edge off the worst days and was quite cold if you sat in front of it. It was never going to fully cool the room because of the open plan design but it made a good difference. It's a little noisy when running but that's a small price to pay for some relief,. An adequate aircon unit..

Good value
It was only $300 including postage, suitable for a small room like mine, and will perfectly match with a dehumidifier. With this combo, you would never need to worry about emptying water tank anymore.
Just don't purchase from dick smith or kogan.com.
I ordered on November 2017 and get it on mid January 2018......

Powerful and happy with it.
This is our third portable air conditioner. Portable air cons are always going to be louder & less efficient than other options - that's just the way they are. If you know what to expect, and get the right size, you'll be less surprised.
I bought this 14000BTU model to cool down our large-ish master bedroom, which is about 20m2 in total. It's output has been surprisingly good, as I can usually start to feel a difference after about 10-15 minutes. This past summer had no problems bringing our room down to 25C (we don't usually need it cooler...Read more
than that). I have no problems sleeping with the noise, although that may be because we are use to noise at night. The swing function is surprisingly silent, compared to my other Kogan one which squeaks when the air vent swings. For $400, I think it is very good value for money.Similar opinion? Just what we needed this summer
We bought this unit from Kogan so our kids wouldn't suffer through summer, and it's been perfect.
The device was very easy to install, and it came with an adjustable window attachment. We set it up in minutes.
The noise was a lot less than what I was expecting based on similar devices, that being said it is still might be a little noisy for some, and I wouldn't want to sleep next to it.
It cools down our living room / kitchen area well and is an ideal solution for someone living in an apartment or small house. It also has dehumidifying a...Read more
nd heating functions which will keep the kids feeling comfortable all year round. Portable in the sense that when you move apartments, you can take it with you, but it might be difficult for some to change the location within their own house regularly as it's quite heavy. Overall perfect for our situation and great value.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Lot of Noice, Disturbs your sleep
Not happy with the product. Absolute nightmare that keeps you awake at nights. You sleep will by spoiled due to its high sound
The Air Conditioner automatically stops and starts with high sound. My family is having disturbed sleep when ever we are using this Air conditioner. My little one gets afraid and cries in the night due to its abrupt high sound when ever it goes to sleep and starts automatically

I love this portable air conditioner
It's a pretty unit. It can really lower the room (3.5m x 3.5m) temperature down to 20-25C while outside is 40-45C. Noice is okay but not as a quiet split system. I have been used it for 2 weeks now and I love it. However, air flow cannot be set in the horizontal direction, the louvres swing up and down only. But it worths for money so I recommended.

Not bad for the price
Firstly I would like to mention that I paid for my air con on December 4th 2017 and it took Dick Smith/Kogan 17 days to dispatch it (advertised 3 to 5 days) from their warehouse (21 December) and a further 2 days for it to arrive or be delivered, I spent a lot of time in email and telephone conversations about the delay. This was most unacceptable and the excuses varied.
The units cooling performance is okay and I only use it in my small lounge room, which can be shut off from the rest of the house, I expected more for 1400 BTU (4.1 kw ). I...Read more

Kim W.asked
Hi we are looking to buy one but want to have 2 window kits so we can move it from the kitchen to the bedroom each night is it possible to buy a second window kit or a universal window kit ? We have traditional style sash windows
Thanks
3 answers
I use a generic window kit for 150mm (6 inch) hose with mine, same size as it came with. the hose it comes with got quite brittle and isn't really meant to be moved much, so I replaced it with a more flexible and better insulated one. It was $13 for 4 metres of hose and $30 for the window kit from AliExpress.
Awsome Thankyou so do I just search window kit on AliExpress ?
'1PC 6" Window Adaptor For Portable Air Conditioner' is what i bought, but you need both parts, the window plate and the hose adapter (the two different "Colors" in the AliExpress listings).
They fit the same hose as the air conditioner, but the window plate is very slightly different, just enough so the hose adapter the air conditioner came with doesn't clip into the chinese window plate (it will sit in the hole, but not clip firmly into place). I'd suggest getting two window plates and one hose adapter, that way you can leave the one hose adapter always on the hose, and just unclip the adapter from one window plate and swap it over to the other one, and they'll hold in place nicely.

My unit, the 14HA continually stays on P1.
What do I do?

Pull the plug at the back of the machine out and empty the water...it is a error code to tell you it is full of water in its reservoir....make sure you do it over a drain as about a litre of water or more will come out...not may come out but will come out
The plug at the bottom not the plug half way up
Let me know how you go please...

I'm thinking of purchasing one of these units. Does anyone know if they are inverters? They seem to have an "operating range" which makes me think they are. Also, how is everyones power bill after using one of these. I'm trying to find cheaper ways to heat and cool rooms that are far away from the main Split System in my apartment.
1 answer
What do you mean inverters?...do you mean are they reverse cycle (heating and cooling) and if so then yes they are. I have one and it heats, cools and drys plus has a fan option. I find the heating option works very well and you can set the temperature up to 32 degrees c and they heat very fast with the use of an oscillating flap at the top of the unit. My bills haven't changed that much with the use of this unit, i would say it has added about 50 bucks to the bill with constant use and mine is a 4.1 kw unit. It will exhaust the cold air out via the tube and pumps hot air into the room and in summer vice versa it pumps the warm air out via the tube and cold air into the room. They seem to extract the moisture from the room very well to as they contain 2 reservoirs for catching water and you can set it up to constantly have it drip the water out into another receptacle or just leave it to fill the internal one and when the internal one is full you simply pull the plug out at the rear and let it drain. They move very smoothly on the built in castor wheels and come with all the attachments to connect the external tube to either a window or you can hard fix it into the wall.
Hope this helps you and provides you with the information you required
