Slap it on thickly with a brush, and you'll get a good result!

Cheapest Out There!

published

Oh boy, what a mistake. This must be the cheapest but like other reviewers here, stay away. The paint is like a thick sludge of mud and dries horribly wrong. I use it to spray paint rough timber lattices and boy oh boy, it turned out to be a disaster! It goes to show that you really get what you paid for - lessons learned when it comes to paint. Get a decent one!

Great coverage and excellent value for money

We repainted a kids cubby with Jarrah fence paint and it looks fantastic. Looked clear when we opened the tub, but after a really good stir it looked really thick and red. Was the easiest paint to apply as it doesn't grip like gloss paint when you need more on your brush. We were able to literally slap it on and it looked great once it dried. Our 3 year old and 5 year old helped too so there was lots to clean off them which again washed off easily with water. Coverage was also more than it described on the tub. Don't know how long it will last, but for $22 per 4 litre tub, I thought it was a bargain.

Watery Khaki Manure

published

Walpamur Pine Green fence paint is hard to recommend. It's actually very expensive for the level of quality. It's extremely watery and dries to a horrible murky, khaki green that looks like a cross between pond sludge and fresh cow dung. It might be OK for splashing on a small timber structure at an army barracks but it will turn stomachs if used in suburbia.

I used the doeskin colour to paint over mission brown on a picket fence. I used a brush, two coats was enough although I did put it on pretty thick. I believe this range is made from recycled paint so batches vary, but you get what you pay for, and this one is cheap. Might change my mind after the next project where I'm spraying, though!

Wish I'd read reviews!

Wish I'd read reviews, here! My woodwork on eaves and gables were painted with mission brown years ago. They were now faded. Why not a fresh pine green? I had always used Walpamur in the UK because one received a dense finish from minimum application. So I pounced on their Pine Green at Bunnings. No density here. It still did not obliterate after 3 coats. So I bought another brand, "Accent", which covered fine.

Very Thin Paint,You Get What you pay for (CHEAP PAINT)

published

I painted my fence using this paint in an airless spray gun.
It is so watery I had to turn down the pressure to the lowest and the paint was still dripping off
the fence. So I tried painting with the brush and the paint wouldn't even stick to the bristles of
the brush. My advice is to pay a little extra and get some better quality paint

Not paint - just colour

Sounds like you didn't stir the paint properly. I used it and it brushed on just fine.

Great value

published

Ignore the previous review I've painted over 200 square meters of treated pine fence and it worked a treat.
Painted over old and new treated pine fence and even over some breezeblock concrete.
Good thing about it is it is thin enough to be used with a cheap airless paint gun so went on fast with good finish. Nice mat finish, which was what I was after. Very good value for money and way cheaper than the other brands. I would recommend it to anyone
Cost and easy to apply

May as well use water and food colouring. We tried this "paint" and found it hopeless. After 3 coats it could still have had another.

Just used this - however was the Woodland Grey colour. Didn't find the paint coverage too bad actually. Good thickness and spread and opacity, but the colour is not a proper match for the Colourbond Woodland Grey. It's dries too light. Annoyed.

Used it 3 years ago over 25 yr old mission brown. Two coats, covered well and still looks OK. Wonder if kebaf returned it. It may have been bad batch or improperly applied.

Questions & Answers

I'm searching for more information on using a sprayer and painting an old asbestos fence. It's only about 1.75m tall and about 8 meters long that I'd like to paint (the rest is behind shrubbery), as it's so ugly (gray) & is seen from our patio. I've read a few accounts of this paint doing the job (2-3 coats) and that it helps to contain the fibres. I wondered if anyone here might be able to speak to this?

Lastly, would it be similar to try to spray a heavy stain instead? I'm in WA, so not too sure if that's something carried here with all of the brick homes. I'm not originally from AU (arrived in 2007), so what I'm used to getting just isn't here for me.

Thanks for any advice!

As I am not from WA & the conditions are very different to Qld, I did a quick google search about some of the issues you raised. In brief, it appears that spraying is your best & safest method, though a 'heavier' exterior paint maybe better to seal the asbestos fibres. Yeah, I thought that, too. But you're not supposed to brush, only spray. Sprayers like thin paint, so it looks like a lot of thin coats to achieve something similar.

walpamur fence paint colour doeskin is no longer available. can you suggest an alternative

Looks like a few of the older colours have been removed from the range though I'm surprised that a light beige/cream option isn't available, not everyone has monochrome. If you can't find old stock in a smaller hardware or Gumtree etc, you may have to rethink your colour scheme (I switched to a darker contrast, hence the experimental colours) or get an alternate fence paint & have it tinted.
