This fridge has been honestly great. I had it for over 10years, may be 15. Freezer and cold compartments work great.
My doors never had problems. User who may have have to expect a wear and tear after a few years.
Also people have to be mindful loading bricks in the doors and hinges will not fall off.
Adjustable temp and works perfect.

Door Fell off
On one hand we have had the fridge for 12 years and its run effectively.
On the other hand the door literally fell off. Hinge just snapped in half. Thankfully no one was hurt.
This is a problem with this generation of Westinghouse fridges - other people have made similar reports. Be careful with their older products (any maybe new products who knows)
Purchased in April 2021.

4 years and still running smooth
Bought this 4 years ago when it was the last piece remaining in store...was sceptical at first as we got the discount too and we were aware that this one soon gonna be discontinued. But thank god we got this ..I never had a single issue with this one since 2015...still running smooth as butter ...lots of space with some mid range features ..
Loving the quality.. Its sad that they discontinued this model .
Purchased in June 2021.

Love this fridge!
We've had this fridge through two moves and three locations. It has been consistently excellent! The cool blue lighting up the back is a lovely plus and helps to see things at the back of the fridge without being overwhelming. We are now selling it because we are leaving overseas. We are proud to pass it on to another owner, knowing it has served us well for many years. When we return to Australia we will certainly look for another wonderful Westinghouse refrigerator and freezer.

Hot fridge....give away..
After reading other reviews i seem to be affected with all the issues every client has been experiencing with Westinghouse product. Not sure if its worth another $300+ repair cost again, better put $$ aside for a better reliable European import....:( would i recommend Westinghouse to anyone NO, sorry never again.

11 years and its been a lot of work
Good looking unit - now discontinued
04/2005 purchase
Bottom door distorted with foam post curing and buckled the SS front panel - it was replaced under warranty but the scrubbed SS effect was not quite the same on both doors.
Hinges have broken but door was saved, washers in hinges have failed and needed to be rebuilt. Sliders on crisper s failed early and the top compartment door butter and cheese lids broke in 2006
Defrost element seems to have failed, Thanks for heads up in this review with part number

Nice Looking Fridge, spacious, functional layout. After a couple of years thermostat and defrost just seemed to stop working - fridge would either freeze your food or not cool at all. My last fridge lasted 30 years without a problem, only got rid of it cos it was noisy and a power hog.

Good fridge but not as reliable as it should be
We bought our bottom mount fridge-freezer in 2005. It survived being moved from a unit to a house then around the house during renovations without a hiccup. Yes the plastic support in the bottom fridge door hinge broke off after 5y but I just readjusted the top hinge to realign the door. Easy. We just had a main board go. $330 repair in total. Very good price and service from Bunneys, Kirrawee. I will buy a spare main-board for next time as this appears to be the main problem. Ebay as them for $135 and they are an easy swap over having watched...Read more
the repair man do it. We have had no problems with the plastics inside. We use common sense to not overload the door or bins. For a modern fridge at the reasonable price we paid with no major problem for 10 years. I'm satisfied and will be happy if I can get another 5 years out of it.1 comment

have found that Electrolux/Westinghouse have a new stronger centre hinge available (LH hinge 1461504, RH hinge 1461502). I will replace that and the the other plastic bits (Closing Cam 1442282 and Door stop 1437503 both RH &LH). Total cost from Electrolux $67.75 inc shipping. The temperature display isn't affecting the fridge or freezer temperature yet but I will investigate it.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Refridgerator compartment to warm
Fridge about 8 years old .on its 3rd control board. previous one lasted about 12 months. Electrician suggested fitting a surge protector to the mains circuit to fridge could fix the problem with control board failure. Also fridge compartment was about 3 degrees hotter than digital display setting on front. Repositioned fridge temperature sensor to just inside instead of behind top plastic cover and now inside temperature equates to what the display is set to . I cannot see it lasting as long as our first one 27 years.

Disappointed
Yes, I agree with all above. Hinges and compartments started breaking fairly early on. yesterday, just over 5 years after I bought it, the main door fell off after the hinge just snapped, and smashed many things that were stored in the door compartments. After reading these reviews - no Westinghouse for me again!

disappointing fridge
fridge doesnt have as much room inside as the old fridge I used to have does even though they were the same size. I think modern fridges have more bulky plastics inside that take up room. Plastics are very weak and break easily. Our drawer broke after 2 years

All hinge brackets broken
Disappointed in this fridge. Bought this fridge because it's was a Westinhouse.
Unfortunately it has not been a great buy. The crispers were first to go as they broke their hinges so now I use a container for my fruit and vegetables, All the side hinges from the door have broken off. The milk and carton holder has just broken!. So now where do I store the milk and water containers? Butter holder broke ages ago. The plastics in this fridge are terrible. I have to stickytape them so they don't crack any further I'm not sure if I can replace hinges.seriously, this is not acceptable I don't recommend this brand. It's not the same as when our parents bought this brand and was reliable.
Aesthetically pleasing. Brand

Worked well for 8 years but...
Firstly the food in parts of the fridge would freeze and spoil...however I could live with this. Then the little plastic disk between the doors snapped off and the fridge never closed properly again. You have to push it closed and a couple of times I didn't push the freezer door all the way and the whole freezer defrosted (there is no beeper). It has been working sporadically for months until the fridge went totally warm (like all the other reviews). Had a tech out, he said the heater won't turn off (explains why our power bill KW usage had bee...Read more
n so huge the last bill). Will cost hundreds to fix...expected at least 10years for $1800 from this brand. More annoyed that this is clearly a fault with many and Westinghouse get to keep our money for selling a shonky product. Nice shelves, no inner fittings broke, good looking fridge on inside and outside. - plastic door hinge broke and caused problems with closing doors properly. - stopped working after 8 years costing me $225 + running costs each year. $100's lost in spoilt food from defrosting freezer, freezing in fridge and it fridge going warm several times.Similar opinion? Same problem as everyone else it seems
I specifically set out to purchase an Australian manufactured refrigerator. Sadly it lasted just a few days over five years and then, like several other reviewers have stated, the fridge part died but the freezer part continued to operate normally. Given the inconvenience of having an inoperable fridge and the costs of a service call, it simply was not worth getting it repaired so I bought a new Fisher & Paykel from Winnings Appliances and I am very happy with it. I can now understand why Electrolux has ceased manufacturing at Orange in NSW....Read more
The quality of appliances from that facility left much to be desired. Customer service is even worse I am sorry to report. The right hand there seems to have no idea what the left hand is doing I'm afraid. So many similar complaints on this site yet their service people say that they've never encountered this situation before! I really wanted to purchase an Australian built appliance but that is an impossible quest. Like Ford, like Holden, like Electrolux, Aussies appear to be unable to manufacture consumer items that can go the distance. So fingers crossed that my Kiwi built appliance lasts longer than its Aussie counterpart. The standard of finish on the F&P product certainly is considerably better than that of Westinghouse. It had a very good freezer section. What is the point of a refrigerator that doesn't keep food cool?Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Hinge failure on the Top Door
1. the top door is now of balance and is not closing by itself and needs to be pushed shut; the manufacture is such that parts Plastic parts do not stand up to the daily use.
Also if you want to repair it you may just need to buy two doors as according to call centre at Westing house as the stainless steel does not match - they have a real quality control issue.
strongly advise deu consideration be given to the most likly scenario that the fridge will start to fall apart soon outside warranty.

Fridge leaves a lot to be desired
We purchased BJ514V when we moved into our new home in 2005. Was dinted when delivered & Harvey Norman took more money off the price. The "plastic" part the door opens and swings on at the bottom of the door broke just out of warranty and the door would never close again properly without effort. You could not just give it a push and walk away, it would not close and would defrost. You had to really push the door hard to close and then check it had closed. The fridge itself froze anything which was put at the back, this was from day one. So, whe...Read more
n our beer fridge (Whirlpool which we had for 20 years) died recently it was a no brainer to turn the Westinghouse into the new beer fridge and buy a better fridge for the house. And "no" it was never going to be another Westinghouse. The new Panasonic is fantastic!! I now realise all of the other faults the Westinghouse had, including bad design and shelf spacing, split crisper, which is just a waste of space. So far however the Westinghouse has made a good beer fridge (but it has only been two weeks). It does hold a few cartons of beer and a number of cartons of soft drinks and wine fits well in the door and it is doing a good job keeping it all cold. I guess even poor products have a use. Would recommend as a beer fridge, but for a fridge in the house, stay clear of Westinghouse. For only a bit more money there are better products out there. You get what you pay for. Bottom mount Important plastic parts break easily. Freezes everything put at the back. Bad design.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Westinhouse Virtuoso Refrigerator BJ515V-R
Being energy conscious we replace all our lights with CFL and waited eagerly for our next energy bill expecting to see a power reduction. Alas not to be, there was a 20KWh increase per month. So what is going on? Only when the milk started to go off in the fridge before the due date did I suspect there was something wrong. I put a thermometer in the fridge which was set to 2°C. It measured 16°C. I noticed the fridge was running all the time. After reading the reviews on "productreview.com.au" I decided to follow the advice and defrost the ...Read more
freezer. I was able to remove the plastic partition in the freezer after about 30 mins of defrosting with a towel on the base of the freezer and a pan of very hot water. There was some evidence of something getting very hot in there as the foam insulation had expanded and had some black goop on it. Sure enough, the condenser was frozen which would stop airflow. The fan was working OK. So after a few hours all the ice was gone and I reassembled the cover and switched it on. Cold air was flowing into the fridge cabinet again but even after several hours it only got to 10°C. The freezer is working well, but the fridge seems to be cycling from freeze to defrost continuously. So I have place a call with the Westinghouse service agency in South Australia, with a call out fee of $135 plus parts. I bet they don't have any parts with them. I will call around to get a price on a controller board to avoid getting ripped off when the technician arrives. So hopefully after it is repaired I'll see a significant drop in power consumption. Big enough. Stuff fall through the top tray in the freezer. A mesh would be better than rungs..2 comments

through to the cabinet. He powered off, held the clock function down. waited about 5 seconds, then still holding it down powered on, waiting a further 5 seconds them pressed the freezer and fridge button together for a further 5 seconds. A Manual screen came up, allowing defrost mode to be initiated, which worked. The fan ran OK. so the only thing to do was replace the controller card. The technician said the relays on the card sometimes arc and stick after a while. Suggesting the defrost and cool modes were running concurrently. The fridge is working fairly well now. The cabinet is set to 2°C but measures up to 6° at the bottom of the cabinet. I guess that is normal. I think there is still something not quite right. I will check to see how frost free it is in a few weeks. The compressor seems to be running for a long time so I'm suspicious all is not as it should be. The techo sais there is an motor driven baffle in the rear of the fridge that controls air flow to the cabinet. which is accessible from the back. This may rarely be problematic. Perhaps if a problem persists we'll look at that next time.I received the power bill. What is normally ~ $500 was a whopping $900. I put this down to 1. Long Hot Summer. 2. Broken Refrigerator. Fridge not cooling here too...
After just six years, mine (BJ523VR) seems to start to have exactly the same problem tonight, as everybody else has: Fridge is not cooling while the freezer is OK. The box cost a fortune at the time I bought it, and the durabilility is just not there. And other people's experience has shown that it'd cost a lot to get it repaired. Fortunately I have a backup for the time being, an old half-working Whirlpool, a brand I already decided never to buy again. Now Westinghouse/Electrolux will be on my dump list as well.
Lesson learnt: Never buy ex...Read more
pensive, fancy stuff by this manufacturer, for they certainly don't build things to last these days. I bought it for the brand name, and its auto-defrosting funtion, which turned out to be the weakest part of the product. Poor quality with design flaws; not a serious product.4 comments

Poor quality plastic indoor hinges
After 3 years the upper "plastic " hinge for the inside large door broke, another year on in Dec 12 the other one broke as well. Electrolux today advised us " this is normal wear and tear ", we have to pay for a new door set at total abt $ 500.- . Bottles were maybe too heavy !! Unbelievable : this is a bottle tray . But the inner door hinges are all made from plastic, obviously poor quality and probably inferior plastic plus bad design in first place. They should never be made from plastic. Never ever Westinghouse product again.

Got a BJ513V-R*11 westinghouse fridge. Problem started happening few days ago. The panel beep randomly and I can see the 'quick freeze' icon come on and off randomly (together with the beep sound). What might went wrong with the fridge, is that the end of life of my fridge ?

I doubt there is a problem with the gas, leaks are uncommon unless the fridge has been moved recently and knocked around.
I think it’s most likely sensor/ electrical. If one of the wires has been cooked over time it might be tripping up the sensor to show a fault.
Also with recent heat refrigerators had to work extra hard to keep the temperature steady as well as we have had sudden temperature drops of 20 degrees. There could be a form of condensation that is playing the part. I wonder where the fridge is situated and if it is exposed to the weather outside (eg, standing next to open window or door).
I would empty it, clean and dry it, switch off the power and leave it off for half a day or a day, however it’s impractical to do that with the fridge.
The refrigerator has been running for a number of years in the same physical location, cant recall how many years. I am just thinking whether it is more practical to get a new refrigerator or get it repair. I got a first quote for $110 call out fee, then $55 per 30 minutes plus spare parts, so easily $400+ and a new one cost $1400 !!
