Westpac credit cards
We do use it overseas but we stack it up with our own money so we're not slugged with huge fees but when rules change so do cashing in for flights etc.....
It used to be a great card at Westpac but it doesn't live up to the annual fees we pay

Stay far far away from this product!!!
Final came to a point were I wanted to redeem some of my points. Now been over two weeks of waiting, customer support cant help at all and don't know what they doing, they cancel some cards and credit the points back to your account without notifying you. Support staff rude and unhelpful. Will definetly be moving to another Bank and product. Shocking shocking service. Now been told the cards will be dispatched after 10 weeks!!!!

Good sign up bonus
I signed up because there was a 60,000 Qantas Frequent Flyer if you met the required spend which I did. I did that and the points were delivered to my Qantas account within two weeks. Apart from that, it's just another credit card. I do like their feature where you can make a purchase and lock in a payment plan over defined period at a reduced interest rate.

Not worth it at all.
At first, I thought that this card would be amazing as it came with complimentary travel insurance. However, I learnt a good lesson: Make sure you check what sort of insurance company the credit card uses. We had experienced a few strands of drama while we were overseas, and we were relying on this complimentary travel insurance. When we tried to claim for the expenses that incurred because of a cancelled flight, QBE insurance was not helpful at all. I started my claim over 8 months ago, and still had no luck with getting anywhere, and they are...Read more
so rude and frustrating to deal with. I know that this has nothing to with Westpac itself, however, it does matter because this is their chosen insurance company. If the complimentary travel insurance is useless, there is no value in having this card.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
Westpac Qantas Altitude Points 80,000 hasn't come through
Guys, Westpac got pathetic service when it comes to what they offer and what you receive.I am waiting for my 80,000 qantas point for the last 4 months and nothing has come through so far. I applied for card because there was an offer if you spend $5000 in first three months you will receive 80,000 qantas point, and I have spent $5000 in first two month. DO NOT APPLY FOR THIS WESTPAC ALTITUDE CARD. HORRIBLE SERVICE THEY PROVIDE. I called them 3 times but nothing has been happened so far.
Thanks,
Lucky

Do not book travel through Westpac Altitude or their affiliate pinpoint travel
Unfortunately we made the mistake of booking a trip through Westpac Altitude. Our trip was cancelled after a Cyclone destroyed the Island we were going to & Altitude/ pinpoint have been extremely unhelpful. The accommodation venue readily refunded our money however Altitude have refused to do the same for flights and transfers. They have unhelpfully said they will give us a credit which comes with so many conditions for rebooking that we cannot seem to fulfil these and ever use this within the short time frame allowed. Ideally we would like to ...Read more
reuse it to travel to the island when it reopens however our 'credit' apparently cannot be extended the additional three months needed that would enable us to go there once the island is reopened. We have made repeated phone calls to try and resolve the situation, spent countless time on hold, and received inadequate customer service. Apparently it is very difficult to send us a confirmation of the 'credit' in writing so that we could try and recoup this money through our travel insurance - after several phone calls, more time on hold, and more useless customer service - this has been promised twice and still not delivered. Pathetic response and I would never book through this service again.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

One of the most expensive cards in Australia
When I started banking with Westpac, I signed up for this card (got both a visa and amex, linked together). It was convenient and the rewards program seemed good.
Wish I had paid attention.
This card carries one of the highest interest rates AND annual fees in Australia. And those rewards? I put $100,000 through my card in the first year and was able to get a whopping $400 in statement credits (that's 0.4% cash back).
Definitely shop around - nearly every other major bank card is a better deal.

Great Product from Westpac
Good product ! Good points with Amex and provisos to pay off within the 44 day period. it's a great so long as you can pay it off every month.
No prestige in having platinum, but unlike the normal red credit cards from Westpac you can confuse the colors when spending.
This card comes with a huge credit limit so you have to manage it wisely. If you use this card correctly it's great!

Time for a better deal
I always suspected that my points were buying less and less and that anything Altitude Rewards offered for point redemption was over-priced but it wasn't until I tried to change flights booked through Altitude Rewards that I discovered just how much they can gouge you. I booked return domestic flights for three family members, then, later that same morning my son found he had to delay the journey by three days. I contacted Altitude Rewards who, after talking to the airline, informed me the cost to change the booking would be $750. If I simply c...Read more
ancelled the flights I would lose all the points used (nearly 120,000) as well as the cash top-up I had to pay but I may get a credit with the airline for part of the value. Not impressed, I decided to contact the airline directly to ask about making the change. Well, instead of $750 the cost proved to be just $360, less than half of what Altitude Rewards were demanding. This is the kind of deal you get paying $180 per year for the Altitude Platinum credit card! I think I'll be taking my business elsewhere.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Not Worth It
Just got an offer in the post from Westpac. Give them back 28000 points and they'll credit $100 on my credit card. Given it cost me around $15000 to earn those 28000 points and they charged me $90 for the privelege of collecting those points I can only describe Altitude Rewards as a complete and utter rort.

terrible: reward points not given
3 months now and reward points haven't arrived.
All of my dealings with Westpac outside of their credit cards has been fantastic. However Westpac rewards points are operated outside of Westpac by a company called Pinpoint Marketing. Westpac won't tell you this of course, they say you are being transferred "to a different department" or an "internal department". This arrangement makes dealing with rewards points an absolute nightmare. Any issue with points and Westpac will then say it isn't their issue and will push you to Pinpoint. Pinpoint...Read more
in return say it is nothing to do with them and push you back to Westpac. After about 10 calls now to Westpac and about 5 times they've tried to push me to Pinpoint, this issue is still not resolved. Westpac have raised this twice to their internal complaints department and it still hasn't been resolved. Message to Westpac: Don't outsource your work and destroy your brand by giving it to someone else. This is a lose-lose relationship here. It means Westpac has less control and accountibility. It also means this laughing-stock of a company can take goodwill that you've spent years building up and destroy it in a second. Bringing it inhouse will give you better management of this. Your profits will also stay inhouse. Message to anyone using Altitude:1 comment

Residual Interest
I have this card and run through $20K a month, do not like the idea that they now cap the points every month, still paying fee to have the card and for the past couple of months have paid closing balance before the due date, yet I still get a interest fee from 2 months ago when I did not pay the total closing balance. When ask bank for explanation their standard answer "this is residual interest", yet they cannot explain how this amount is worked out. This has happened a couple of times in the past year, although they reverse the interest fee...Read more
if questioned about it. I am prepared to pay the interest but what I object to is the blanket statement that is is residual interest, I believe they should be able to tell me exactly how it is worked out not the computer works it out. Also not happy about the points cap after all the interest is still the same, the fees are still the same yet I am now being penalized for using the card too much and don't get as many points, have had this card for more than 25 years you get nothing for being loyal!!Similar opinion? Their travel insurance is a rip off
Don't depend on the Westpac Travel Insurance when travelling overseas. It is no where near as comprehensive as it might seem. Everything is fine until you submit a claim then all the very fine print gets read back to you. Their insurance company claims to be 'Insurance' I would consider them to be rip offs. They are quite happy to take your annual $300 fee's and spend all your transactions through them. When it comes to making a claim and of course the mountains of receipts and proofs of every transaction no matter how comprehensive your submission is, becomes a nightmare. Beware.
The very fine print comes into play when making a insurance claim.

Best reward, but not the perfect credit card.
Got the card with Home loan package with westpac.
to be frankly, this card is the best reward card in 4 big, (1.18% on amex, 0.59% on visa base on redeem a $100 Myer gift card.
44 days int free is under the average, means you have to pay out the balance
transaction date on the statement is not eqaul to the actual purchase date
expensive fee, high int rate.
feel little bit cheated of the upgrade from gold to platinuim with no phisical benefit but the colour of the cards.
reward better than others, two card for convience,
expensive fee, high int rate, int free days, transaction details

Excellent
Great card for high spenders who are weary of merchants not accepting Amex. Shine will come off a little in March when QFF no longer an option
Amex and mastercard - always have one accepted. The reward scheme is really good too, nice and flexible - though they are removing QFF in Mar 09
Price is high

Worth the $295 annual fee if you are a spender
We average $3-5K per month spend - in 2 years we accumulated enough pts to redeem $1100 worth of airfares.
I love that you can look and book your own domestic and international airfares - plus the fares are in real-time prices so they fluctuate in number of points required - just like airfares on websites.
You can also exchange points for accommodation and products but I find the best bang for your buck is booking airfares - the exchange value for other items like accommodation and products is not as good.
Very flexible to redeeem points - if not available on website you can ring them and they will price it in points for you
Only worth it if you are a big spender

OK
The card is convient to use and widely acceptable. The rewards programme is good with three points for every dollar spent on the American Express. The draw back is Westpac offering increased credit limits regularily which could be a problem if you accepted these limit increases. The annual fee is excessive and believe that this could be reduced considerable dependant upon how much you use the cards. Overall, the cards work just like everyones else, just provides a good rewards programme.
I had this card for ten years and found it very easy to use with the rewards programme generous.
Westpac offering credt limit increases to absurd levels, over $50,000. The annual fee for having a Platinum Mastercard and American Express card.

OK
You need to spend big to accumulate a lot of points and you need a lot of points to
get most of the products on their list.In other words, you need to be a big spender to make it worth the cost.
The card looks expensive ;-))
Expensive unless you use it a lot on big purchases.
A lot of retailers put a surcharge on the use Amex cards which you need to use to get the most points.

Good
We've had this card a couple of years now and are generally pleased with it. We used to just have a Gold American Express, but decided to switch over to this one because we could get both Mastercard and Amex in one. Also, the fact that we get 3 points per dollar for using Amex is also a bonus. We have accumulated a huge amount of points and regularly cash them in for things such as movie tickets and gadgets.
Get the benefits of Amex and Mastercard in one
Nothing I can think of, except the annual fee of $295 is probably a bit high

Good
Have always found the customer service to be great. The flexibility of being able to transfer your points to frequent flyer points is a feature.
Gives me American Express and MasterCard - so I get to choose
Like most credit cards fees are excessive if you happen to go overlimit.

am using westpac altitude platinum credit card complimentary travel insurance going to usa and columbia in july 2016 have read all the fine print i think and on reading smartraveller they suggest you get in writing confirmation that you are covered etc ring westpac get put through to the phillipines and no they will not give it to you in writing same line as long as you met the conditions in the policy you are automatically covered any thought ????

Wouldn't trust anything they say if they won't give it to you in writing. Go into a branch and ask there. If you still don't get a straight answer contact a Travel Insurance Specialist.
I used to have a Westpac Gold Card and a "Gold Overseas Travel Insurance" policy came with it. The "conditions of use" booklet had a table of benefits and this certainly provided all the relevant details you need. I would expect you could pick up a copy of the "conditions of use" booklet from your nearest Westpac branch. It may be called a "product disclosure statement" these days but if Westpac says its offering free travel insurance with your card then printed details of that insurance should be readily available.
