MX8 performance
My MX8 works perfectly cleaning the Pool; as long as there's no bark/leaves from my Neighbors trees fallen into my pool. If there are large pieces of debris in the pool, a 'manual' cleanup is required OR the unit will cease to operate. To ensure maximum performance, make sure the filter pump leaf basket is empty & that the hose to the MX8 Unit isn't sucking in air/water where the hose pieces are joined as I've found the hose pieces deteriorate sitting in the pool/water/sun. If the hose is one length, ignore this important test. I've had my cleaner for 4 years now & it works great if you perform my basic 2 check items I've mentioned in the above. Good luck

Disapointing ongoing maintenance
My first review of this product was that it is good at its job. But not even into the first year out of warranty and it has needed a full parts replacement. Which i believe is a marketing ploy to extract more money from the consumer. So at $650.00 this unit should be fault free for at least 3 yrs. Not very happy

he wear and tear parts of your MX8 similar to a service on your car to make your cleaner perform like new again. If your pool surface is quite rough, it is going to slowly wear down the tread on the tracks similar to the tread on tires. High frequency of use such as running the cleaner for 8hrs a day 7days a week keep the cleaner working over time. Other factors such as the cleaner not being stored out of the water and out of sun when not in use can also have an affect on the materials. Dont buy if you want to use it for leaves
Useless when it encounters small gum leaves. It just jams and sits there. Cleans very well if you clean pool first. Im going to ask for a refund. I had a hammerhead before this cleaner and im going to see if i can swap the zodiac mx8 for it. Happy reading

Pleasantly surprised.
I recently bought a house and pool with a MX8 cleaner - the first self driven type I've had (other pools I've owned used the simple diaphragm type cleaners). Other than the odd twig jamb or leaf overload I've been surprised how good it is, especially doing the pool walls. Our pool has a step/ledge right the way around about 1" below the water line and the MX8 tracks around the walls up to it beautifully, leaving only the top section of wall to scrub by hand. Its a little sun bleached so I suspect its a few years old but does a great job of picking up the weekly layer of grime and gum leaves that settle on bottom of the pool.

Completely Useless
I've had this cleaner for three years. Like many pool cleaners, it worked well when it was new, but it quickly develops problems. The cleaner is only in the pool during summer...the rest of the time it is stored in the shed after being rinsed with clean water. This cleaner has spent precisely 27 weeks in the pool so far. The first set of tracls only lasted the first season and the gearbox was replaced under warranty in November 2014. The cleaner works fine when they play with it at the pool shop, but as soon as it's under load in the pool it ja...Read more
ms. It rarely runs for longer than three or four minutes before stopping. I have taken the cleaner back to the pool shop a few times, but they haven't been able to help. When I bought this the pool shop told me that this was the best performing cleaner on the market.......It is worth noting that they no longer sell them. The is the second and last product I will ever buy from Zodiac.2 comments

Plastic parts doom the longevity of the MX8 No Value given a $500 price tag
The MX8 works wells for approximately 2.5 years before we were forced to replace the plastic gear set as they simply did not propel the unit due to gear tooth damage. Based upon its $500 price tag, this device does not qualify as a product with any true value. The rubber tracks also need replacing 2x/year. Not a huge expense, but again, it adds up when the device craps out needing complete overhaul after less than 3 seasons.

Zodiac MX8 An epic fail for us
Read some of the other reviews and have the same experience. Always thought it was me, or my pool setup.
Went back to the pool shop where I purchased it from, and was told to replace the sand in the filter. Done that, but still the same result. I have a 2Hp pump, however it does have some age on it. Every time the unit hits a ripple in the Vinyl liner it stops. I've owned it for two years and after reading these comments I give up. Big waste of money.
Further to my review.... I have in all good conscience alter my review.
In the last two days, after replacing the sand, and allowing it to settle, backwash, etc. the pressure on the pump has increased, although only slightly. Now the MX8 is working perfectly.

Love it
Since getting my Zodiac MX8 5 years ago and I have found it works perfectly. I do vacuum the pool manually to remove large debris and then pop this bad boy in to do the rest. No issues with getting stuck climbs walls and stairs and has never given me any greif. Install is simple by using the suction gauge making sure it is at 3 adjusting if needed was easy. Parts are easy to source. Tune up kits for when the machine is lagging and need the tune up. I have just tuned mine up after 5 years and back to normal again. shops. Around $200au. Also there is now a cyclone scrubbing kit to match the zodiac MX8 elite system. Online again for around $60au. The 2 round paddles underneath have rubber scrubbing attachments to scrub the pool while doing it usual cleaning. Easy unscrew and attach new paddles. Great for algea build up etc.. also can be bought online. Love this product. Will be looking into this next to make my cleaner better. Shame others have found it ineffective for their pools. But it has worked for me and would highly recommend it to anyone. I have a pebble crete bottom not fibre glass.1 comment

Zodiac MX8 An epic fail for us
Crap. Firstly it would rise half out of the water and suck air when it cleaned up the side of the pool. I had done these adjustments before with our other cleaners, but just couldn't seem to get it right with this one. We got more weights, but it would either rise our of the water or not climb the walls. The supply didn't seem to get my problem and said a little air sucking is normal. Eventually I took a video of what was happening in to show the supplier. Someone came out, looked at my setup. Treated me like an idiot, telling me everything I w...Read more
as doing wrong, did it himself, and surprisingly the MX8 did exactly the same thing. He told me also 'this is normal'. Well I may be an idiot, but the filter eventually shutting down because there's too much air coming through is not normal. I just got used to the fact that I couldn't leave it in for a week.... more babysitting. But sadly this was not the limit of the problem. Any plant matter in the pool is a problem. The MX8 cant handle the fibres of any foilage. they wrap around its little rotating inner core and gradually stop it turning. Fixing this requires undoing screws and getting into the guts of the thing. But... make sure you manually clean your pool before you put the MX8 back in the water or it will just get blocked up again. For us this was A HUGE WASTE OF MONEY which I persevered with because I spent so much on it. I haven't been game to invest in another pool cleaner since then. I want to buy one but I look at them and think its a lot of money, when you don't know if its actually going to work. Less frustrating to manually clean. I cant actually remember when I bought it. About 5 or 6 years ago I think. It never satisfied. My advice, don't buy oneSimilar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Very happy
I bought this cleaner over a year ago, after a lot of hesitation as the reviews here were average. I still bought it because I found a new one at discounted price (unwanted raffle prize). I see that the reviews have gone even lower since I bought mine. Yet I am very happy with it. I was happy from the start, but thought I'd wait about a year to post a review in case something broke within a few months.
I read the instruction to set it up properly, making sure it uses the correct water flow. This took just a few minutes to do, but I'm pretty...Read more
sure not everybody bothers doing that, which could explain later down the track why their cleaner doesn't perform. Yes, it does stop sometimes when there are lots of leaves and a big one or a twig gets stuck. But I can't really see how this would be totally avoidable. I haven't used other cleaners in the same price range but I'd be surprised if they never stopped because of a debris. Most of the time I just leave the cleaner in the pool, it does its job and I just forget about it. I recently put it back in the pool in preparation for the season. After a day of working around the pool, the bottom was spotless and my skimmer basket full of leaves and other small debris. It climbs on the walls, even on the stairs. So all in all again, very happy with it. March 14th 2017 Update: Not so happy after all.2 comments

Very poor quality only lasted 2.5 years
The cleaner did a reasonable not great job of picking up leaves etc. It was recommended by Clark Rubber Bunbury store owner [name removed]. However I spent over a $100 on replacing the drive motors and 8 weeks later the thing is u/s all the bearings are worn out and the plastic is showing wear.
This is the second Zodiac product I have owned - never again.

Would not recommend this cleaner.
Worked well for one year, does not pick up leaves, now cleaner is hardly moving. fed up with taking products back to store, had a barracuda before this one and was told it could not be fixed, was only a couple of years old. So i upgraded to the mx8 as was assured this one was one of the best on the market and would last me a long time

Waste of money
This cleaner is a waste of money. It stops any time it picks up any type of debris and I have to clear the jam so it can begin cleaning. It is a very expensive cleaner that I thought I would have for years to come. I would highly recommend a Hayward cleaner.

A Waste Of Money
Our pool shop is constantly fixing this cleaner. Its usually the same part, which generally lasts about 6 months. if you've got lots of leaves, do not consider this cleaner, its all ways breaking down. Last time the parts alone cost $300 . Both tracks have broken, the internals snapped, the track keeps coming off the wheels, i could just go on and on. Its honestly easier just to clean it manually.

works ok if you don't have acorns
works fine for most small stuff. i read a review that it cleans up everything. if you have oak trees and a chance an acorn will get in pool, it will stop it from running. large leaves are the same. i can't imagine anyone claiming a small stick will pass through. i read a review that after a hurricane it totally cleaned up all the debris. i suspect the owner was in the pool helping also.
take it apart at the store and look at how it works. may be good for the low debris pool. overall for all the above it is a reasonable cleaner. nothing beats polaris in my opinion.
BUT, even it has problems. no pool cleaner will be free of getting stuck occasionally.

Don't Buy - borrow one first to see if it will work..
This is a poor product and even the Zodiac Field Rep couldn't get it working with my 1 1/2 HP motor. He suggested it may be my filter but I had just replaced it a month before (by the local pool shop for $1200!) and the pool motor was only 6 months old. The cleaner either doesn't move at all or moves about 3 meters and stops. Product suggests a 1 HP motor will do but the Field Rep told me I need better suction - so do I need a new 2 HP motor? Have been hand vaccuming ever since and am still looking for something that actually works. Hasn't worked from Day 1 and was a waste of money...

Been a great pool cleaner
I bought an MX8 nearly 4 years ago. It has lived in the pool ever since. The pool runs for about 6 hour a day. I have no problems with it at all. It picks up hibuscus and grevilia leaves and everything else, only gets stopped with small peebles. It needs a rebuild kit through it now, but has been great pool cleaner

Do not go near this cleaner
After I complained about the cleaner getting blocked with leaves,I was told "they are not designed to pick up leaves". Their website states "removes most leaves & small debris". I asked "what type of leaves do they pick up?" The reply was & I am not making this up,was "the kind that a small child might draw on a piece of paper". They do not know the meaning of customer service.

Wheel broken off 2 times
I bought this unit from the previous owner of the house we recently purchased, after about 3 months found a wheel broken off from the chassis. I bought a new genuine chassis online and replaced it myself. The unit worked well after that for another 3 to 4 months, then it broke another wheel off the new chassis. I won't be fixing it again, the chassis was very expensive, and I would expect better from such an expensive product, it seems this is a common problem with this particular unit, won't be taking the risk with this brand again.
