Salt Light Staying On!!
Hi, I have a Zodiac Tri Series and the SALT (yellow) light stays on the entire time the pump is running. I have added salt to the point now that the levels are 6920ppm & obviously high. Everything else is perfect but now that the salt light is on the unit isn't producing chlorine. Can you please suggest anything?? Thanks, Brett

Have exactly same issue with the Chlorinator
I've had this chlorinator installed also for under 4 years when it too failed. Screen also not displaying properly (shows half the line) and the unit keeps turning itself off. It can be reset by pressing the two buttons together, but only runs for the rest of the day, and at next startup of the pump is not working again. Exactly my issue also, I ran it for another 12 months like this to get to 5 years, but should not have to, daily manually intervening is a pain. The Viron has a 5 year warranty, and previous chlorinators (not Zodiac) which were not as expensive also lasted 6 - 7 years. Now considering which product to replace this with, doubt it will be another Zodiac from my past experience.

Dont buy one
My pool is onlty 1 year 1 month old my pcb board in ky crossover has blown the power transistor
You cannot replace the part only you have to buy a whole new system. Repair cost is nearly equivalent to a new one. Try another brand . While i was at the repairer another 1 came in same problem

Hi. Sorry to hear that you have had this issue with your Unit. The Unit would be still under warranty if your Chlorinator is 13 months old. Can you please confirm where you are located as this is an Australian review site. Thanks.

Just not worth the money.
I first installed my in 2014, and unluckily just inside the 2 year warranty the internal battery went so started losing all settings, they replaced the unit. So it seem to run OK for about a year and the second unit has now failed now power what so ever, dead dead. Answer out of warranty. Would suggest you look elsewhere.
Not really a product designed to last.

Battery backup for Zodiac Tri Salt Chlorinator
I've had this salt chlorinator for about5 years now and it worked flawlessly until early this year when it started loosing all it's timer settings every time we had a power outage.
I was told the mother board had to be replaced as the batteries were part of the board
I bought batteries online and soldered them onto the board myself.
I realise not everyone has the ability to do this and suggest that Zodiac make this easier to do for the customer.
Overall a very sound and reliable product.

Replacement for original fitted 2009
After having to replace the cell in November 2016 everything worked fine until the big storm following cyclone Debbie. After a major power outage the power unit flashed up "power supply Fault" and the unit failed to produce chlorine. Fault was diagnosed to power supply board and as replacement board would have cost more to buy and fit than a replacement new chlorinator and would only have 12 month warranty as opposed to 36 month on new chlorinator we chose to replace the full unit. It's disappointing that to replace or repair the power board i...Read more
s too expensive to be a feasible option as I am sure that the problem with the board would be a relatively simple fix to an electronics technician. Having said that, the new unit was a straight forward swap over and is now working perfectly. The old unit functioned without problem for 8 years and but for the storm may have continued working for much longer. I now have an old unit which appears to be too good to just throw in the bin!!!1 comment

3.5 years and happy I bought it
Bought the TRi mid in November 2013. It has kept the pool looking pristine with the PH constantly correct. No more running to the pool shop with a green pool every new season! Just check the acid container once in a while. One little gripe: 3.5 years in and the salt cell appears to have packed up. (Replacement on order as I write.) This feels a little premature so am slightly disappointed but it is a consumable.
January 2022 and still going strong.

Very disappointed
After only 4 yrs, timer stopped working (warranty is 3yrs). Batteries for timer aren't replaceable (told that only now), so a whole new board is required. Looking at unit & labour $400+. Considering what Zodiac Unit cost initially and fact that it still produces the chlorine if operated manually, timer issues are ridiculous. Will NEVER buy Zodiac chlorinator again.

Stay away from Zodiac
After about 3 years of operation the Check Power Supply appeared. I am told that the chlorinator has completely failed and cannot be repaired. I doubt the unit was working effectively prior to that date as the Check Salt warning occasionally appeared even when salt was added to the pool. Like my last Zodiac cleaner, the product is rubbish and best avoided.

Does not do what it is built to do.
Chlorinators are supposed to make chlorine for your pool. My Tri series just does not do that. Had this for just over three years and for the past 12 months every time I take water into the pool shop for testing they ask me how many hours I am running my chlorinator because free chlorine levels are negligible. Its now running 12 hours a day and still can't produce enough chlorine. All other levels (ph, salt etc are ok according to pool shop). I even went to a different pool shop to get a second opinion, their advice ... "Zodiac can make a cleaner but steer clear of their chlorinators". Won't waste my money with them again.

Hi, May I ask if you have checked the water for Phosphates, They are generally not a part of a standard water test but they are important to check for if you are having this issue.
Yes. Phosphate levels were checked. Not the source of the problem.

I have had this chlorinator for a couple of years now, the first issue I had was the auto acid feed stoped working after 8 months and then there was a problem with the filter timer wouldn't turn on the filter but the chlorinator was running, now the chlorinator has packed it in, very cheaply made Take my advice Don't buy one spend the extra couple of hundred and buy an Australian made chlorinator like Salt mate

Working great
Works fantastic with the mineral salt system, way better and easier to look after than the chlorine system. Kids much prefer it as their eyes dont get sore. So far also cheaper than the chlorine tab system we used to have, the pool guys have barely had to use any chemicals at all to keep it spotless.

Poor product and poor service
Purchased the product in 2012. from the time it was installed it never worked properly. took back to there authorise repair agents. it worked for 8 weeks and same problem occurred then had to take back to their repair at their warehouse. Advised all fixed and should be fine. lasted 6 months same problem, contacted them again they said it was out of warranty although it was the same problem they supposably fixed 6 months earlier. That's was the best news as I then through it in the rubbish bin and brought one from another company, so far works without a problem.
speaking to most pool shops not many have a good word about Zodiac.

So far so good
Had trouble installing -- This was a straight swap on the plumbing, but fitting the bushes was annoyingly fiddly. My advice allow time to get it right if you need to use the bushes. Make sure you use pressure glue (allow 24 x hours curing time).
The wall bracket in my box was not deep enough to allow for the plastic housing at the rear. If you need to mount flush to a wall, have a bit of spare timber or something to use as a spacer for the mounting bracket.
Finally the plastic cover over the leads on the chlorination cell falls off. A...Read more
pply some duct-tape. The sales chap at the dealer was very helpful. This is a new purchase so I reserve my right to update these comments in a year or two. My priorities are reduced cleaning (more than twice a year will be a fail), robust/reliable (no break-downs within 9 years, e.g I saw a comment about batteries) and serviceability (easy to repair, maintain). Again I read the comment about a $250 spend to replace batteries -- That's rubbish. Why 9-years? That's 3 x times the warranty period.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
Believed the sales pitch. Don't make the same mistake!
I bought this system in 2010, looking for the maintenance free and healthier option with an initial outlay but a promise of a sparkling pool. From end of 2014 the pool was never as clean as it should be. The pool guy said it needed even more salt, by Sep 2015, it was confirmed that the cell (with the electric plates) no longer worked, the acid pump did not come on automatically and the mother board needed replaced Very expensive. Now, September 2016. Green pool as a result of cell not working and another electric board needing replaced, again. ...Read more
I am told .... out of warranty, R8250 to repair. The distributor received both parts but then sat until sent to shop then examined and diagnosis given. My pool is now an eco system with living scum on the top. So, taking into account the initial cost R30,000, the two replacements of the most expensive components it has been a very expensive and a very troublesome system, the total opposite to the "promise" of Zodiac's spec. I am at the stage that I have to either face the fact that this system costs me, on average, R400 at least a month, every month..... or I cut my losses and resort to a chlorine pool and admit defeat and face the fact that I have wasted of a lot of money.Similar opinion? Questions & Answers
Andrewasked
I have a Zodiac Tri Mid Chlorinator which has operated for about 10years. I replaced the cell 3.5 years ago when it stopped producing chlorine. It appears the replacement cell has now also packed up. The control unit indicates low salt constantly even though the test indicates a salt level at 5350ppm. Testing the pool water indicates no chlorine even operating on boost level. I have cleaned the cell with hydrochloric acid so do not believe there is any calcium build up. The company that supplied the cell which has a 5 year limited warranty say they think it is a problem with the printed circuit board. I see no indication of this . The display works fine, there are no error messages. Can you please advise me how I determine if it is a problem with the cell or the PCB
2 answers
Hi Andrew, my best guess it would be the chlorinator cell is finished. My new Zodiac Tri Large Chlorinator Unit lasted about the same amount of time, with what I understand was a 3 year warranty on the cell. My display unit was doing odd readings, low salt light flashing and error message etc. I took the control unit (as requested) into the place of purchase, was charged a fee and told it wasn't the control panel/circuit board, and more than likely was the chlorinator cell, and then asked to bring that in. To cut a long story short, I'd rather cough up blood than deal with that particular Zodiac dealer again, so I took the cell to another local supplier, who tested it and was deemed as no longer working. The replacement cell corrected the display issues and is all working fine again. Check online and ebay etc though, you can get absolutely screwed with 'genuine' or non genuine aftermarket prices from local suppliers. And good luck with any dealings with Zodiac Australia .. their customer service and consumer guarantee knowledge is appalling.
Thanks very much. I agree it is most likely the cell, I believe they are saying it is the PCB because they do not wish to honour the warranty on the cell. I live in NZ so not so easy to deal with it as the supplier is in Australia.

System trips the power board at the box when turned on.."
1 answer
Good Morning,
In order to ensure that the issue is rectified as quickly as possible, have you eliminated the pump as the cause of the power tripping? To do this, you can plug the pump directly into the power point instead of through the chlorinator. Once you have confirmed whether it is the pump or the chlorinator that is at fault, we can look at either or both items and find out what the cause of the tripping is.
Aquamech Services Pty Ltd in Woolloongabba Brisbane specalises in chlorinator and pump repairs. We repair most of the faults on the circuit boards saving our customers hundreds on having to buy new ones. If you want it yours looked at give us a call on (07) 30677956.
Kind regards,
