Works ok but ridiculous design
The product works ok, but it has 3 rechargable button batteries that keep the timers in memory during a power outage. The batteries are soldered to the control PCB so when they fail, Zodiac expect you to spend ~$250 to replace the whole PCB!!! I decided to spend $20 and remove the old batteries and solder new ones on myself. This is a plain rip off by zodiac and will not be buying their products again.

Excellent service from Deb/Zodiac Brisbane
Have small pool/spa that is approx 2.5 years old. Have had Deb from Zodiac Brisbane out as our technician on several occasions and she is extremely professional, qualified and helpful. Unfortunately, pools will always have issues which just seems to come with the territory, but it helps when the support team (Cordelia is excellent as well) are so great. Thx kindly Deb.

PS I wish but that someone would invent pool stuff/equipment that is indestructible!!!! Oh, well.

Great product, great back up and great service.
I cannot believe what I have read here! The product is fantastic, its the right price, and the customer service and technical support is amazing. I was a month out of warranty and had a technical glitch due to a power outage, and they still came out and fixed it at no charge. That's better than I got from my $80,000 BMW! Good work Zodiac, you have a customer for life.

Not sure about Zodiac
I had a Tri Series with Compact element installed into a new pool build 4 years ago. It has always run on 100% output at 8 hrs a day on timer. Every time I take a water sample to my pool shop they say "no Chlorine". So I add liquid chlorine. Now I found out that possible the compact is too small(?) for my pool volume of 35000L. and that output should be sitting around 30-40% if pH etc are correct.
Zodiac don't seem concerned that I am spending $100s on Chlorine and that to get my unit looked at it will take up to 2 weeks while my pool goes green and the kids can't swim in it over summer!
Any advice on a better way?

Customer service non existant
I bought a new chlorinator cell from a Zodiac dealer. The part came with a 12 month warranty. The chlorinator cell failed after 4 months. I contacted Zodiac for a service call, and was told I had to return the part to the dealer, then the dealer needed to ship the part to Zodiac. As the pool will not function or filter without the part being inserted, the pool sat going green while Zodiac did nothing. The warning I want to give people is that Zodiac have very poor customer service, and when something goes wrong they do nothing to assist you. I would avoid purchasing their products.

Excellent Product
I have always used Zodiac Salt Water Chlorinators. They are extremely reliable and will last for a long time providing you take care by maintaining your water and cleaning the cell according to the manufacturers instruction manual. I highly recommend this product if you are looking for a Salt Water Chlorinator.

new purchase better than the one we had before impressed
this product was very easy to attach to our existing fittings no fuss and works well. Timer was very similar to our previous chlorinator which helps, it has a better navigation panel and easy to read digital view panel. We now have a cleaner pool and because our pool is a saline pool the chlorine levels will be correct. Thank you

As others have said - Do not buy
Bought a seriously oversized unit on advice from the Zodiac rep, with the assurance, "you will only need to run it on 30-40% so it will last soooo much longer than a smaller unit running on 80-90%". Really? We've had nothing but trouble with this cheaply made unit. Wish we'd done a bit of research and bought a decent brand.
It's just packed in AGAIN. An urgent service call (still under warranty) results in being told they're very busy (of course they are, they sell sub-standard products), and I can't get a service call for 9 days. In th...Read more

The annoying thing is that, even though it was a warranty repair, Zodiac have refused to reimburse me for the cost of chemicals I had to buy during the ALMOST TWO WEEKS it took them to fix their faulty equipment. Put this on your never buy list!
Mine suffered major failures. In the first six weeks that required three parts replacement including the burnt out circuit board and all timers not working!
Zodiac customer service is really good - nothing else with the name Zodiac is unfortunately!
Don't touch this product or its T3 pool cleaning attachment, being equally useless!

Zodiac TRi Series - Be warned - quality just not there
Let's face it you want a good reliable unit. Things do go wrong though with all chlorinators though. So then you want good back up service. My power supply failed in first six months. Zodiac service centre slow to respond. Replaced in 10 days. Now power supply has gone again just out of warranty.
When your out of warranty Zodiac only refer you to a pool shop who don't use their own service centre. Pool shop just send it to a Chlorinator repair place. Pool shop doesn't quote under $300 - they just repair it.

that the chlorinator controller (containing the power supply and electronics) is installed correctly and given as much protection from the elements as possible. Over the years we have enhanced many features of the TRi series to make them more resistant to the elements: adding splash and insect guards, introducing components to provide greater protection from power surges, etc. Zodiac operates its own workshops in capital cities and uses a network of warranty repair agents for the rest of the country. Love everything about it so far.... lets see if it lasts 5+ years.
Struggled with a continually failing Hurlcon Chlorinator for 6 years (3 replacements in the base warranty period then fixed by the pool installer, then at my cost, then i gave up on it). Got this Zodiac TRi Series pH Large, installed professionally for a few extra dollars, and so far very happy with it. Simple, easy to use, and the pool has been perfect in terms of Cl and pH. Will report back in 3 and then 5 years!

WARNING DO NOT BUY
The unit is cheap and riddled with issues. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME. I made the mistake of buying one online at a very cheap price and not listening to my local Poolshop. I have since purchased a new unit from them and it's working fine. Unfortunately I have lost out money wise. However it is my own fault for trying to get something on the cheap!

Fantastic Product - Exceeded expectations.
In September 2013 I installed a Zodiac Tri Large Salt Water chlorinator for our 60000ltr fibreglass pool. It was easy to install and program. We live in Rockhampton QLD. We are currently in the midst of a heatwave and the pool is still sparkling and I have not had to supplement with any additional chlorine etc. I am very impressed with this product and would recommend it. It is so much better than our previous Chlorinator which was only three years old and would constantly struggle to maintain adequate levels of chlorine in the summer months.
Simple, quality design. Easy to install and operate. It works extremly well in harsh conditions. Excellent warantee and nationwide support.
Nothing.

Don't wast your money!
Have had this for a while and have had nothing but problems. Broken Acid pump, failed chlorination cell. Switches itself off and doesn't keep time. Had to replace the internal board. Have heard off others with similar problems. Expect to have this thing spend most of its life getting repaired. Avoid at all costs.
Good when it works
Expensive, unreliable

Questions & Answers
Andrewasked
I have a Zodiac Tri Mid Chlorinator which has operated for about 10years. I replaced the cell 3.5 years ago when it stopped producing chlorine. It appears the replacement cell has now also packed up. The control unit indicates low salt constantly even though the test indicates a salt level at 5350ppm. Testing the pool water indicates no chlorine even operating on boost level. I have cleaned the cell with hydrochloric acid so do not believe there is any calcium build up. The company that supplied the cell which has a 5 year limited warranty say they think it is a problem with the printed circuit board. I see no indication of this . The display works fine, there are no error messages. Can you please advise me how I determine if it is a problem with the cell or the PCB
2 answers
Hi Andrew, my best guess it would be the chlorinator cell is finished. My new Zodiac Tri Large Chlorinator Unit lasted about the same amount of time, with what I understand was a 3 year warranty on the cell. My display unit was doing odd readings, low salt light flashing and error message etc. I took the control unit (as requested) into the place of purchase, was charged a fee and told it wasn't the control panel/circuit board, and more than likely was the chlorinator cell, and then asked to bring that in. To cut a long story short, I'd rather cough up blood than deal with that particular Zodiac dealer again, so I took the cell to another local supplier, who tested it and was deemed as no longer working. The replacement cell corrected the display issues and is all working fine again. Check online and ebay etc though, you can get absolutely screwed with 'genuine' or non genuine aftermarket prices from local suppliers. And good luck with any dealings with Zodiac Australia .. their customer service and consumer guarantee knowledge is appalling.
Thanks very much. I agree it is most likely the cell, I believe they are saying it is the PCB because they do not wish to honour the warranty on the cell. I live in NZ so not so easy to deal with it as the supplier is in Australia.

Good Morning,
In order to ensure that the issue is rectified as quickly as possible, have you eliminated the pump as the cause of the power tripping? To do this, you can plug the pump directly into the power point instead of through the chlorinator. Once you have confirmed whether it is the pump or the chlorinator that is at fault, we can look at either or both items and find out what the cause of the tripping is.
Aquamech Services Pty Ltd in Woolloongabba Brisbane specalises in chlorinator and pump repairs. We repair most of the faults on the circuit boards saving our customers hundreds on having to buy new ones. If you want it yours looked at give us a call on (07) 30677956.
Kind regards,
