Cancer Council Sunscreen - breaks down in bottle with heat
I have used this product before and my partner and I were severely burnt, even though we applied several times and with copious amounts. I have since learnt if you leave the bottle in the sun, say on the beach or in your car, the active ingredients break down. On reflection, when I used the Cancer Council sunscreen, I kept the bottle in the car, where on a hot day the temperature in the car would have been above 50 deg. I have since kept the sunscreen in a cool place and have not had a problem. The recent complaints in the media seem to have overlooked this point and I suspect many people who had the same experience as I did probably stored the sunscreen in hot conditions.

Misleading labelling as it did not protect my children from sunburn
2 of my daughters used the 50+ Ultra sunscreen ( brand new tubes purchased for each school bag) recently at a school swimming carnival, it was applied as per the instructions very 2 hours and both girls were serverly burned. My 4 year old has blisters to shoulders, arms and face and she has been unable to tolerate any clothing in contact with their skin today. I have never seen sunburn this bad before. It is awful when you buy and use a product thinking you are protecting you children only to find out that they have received the word rest sunburn ever. Not impressed wth this product, would not recommend it to anyone.

Absolutely appauled how they can sell this product
My 2 boys and I applied the sunscreen as per directions and got severely burnt to the point we had to use cortisone and even antibiotics due to blistering. The company should be sued and the product should be removed off the shelves as it is falsely misleading consumers as it offers no protection. All a money making industry on the expense of us consumers.

This sunscreen should be banned!!
I am absolutely appalled by the result I got at the end of Australia Day with this sunscreen! I applied it liberally to my entire face and body 30 minutes before going into the Sun and I am burnt to a crisp! My partner and two friends who applied the cream at the same time as me got burnt too. This gave no protection what is so ever and I am going to write a complaint to cancer council and return the cream to Coles where I purchased it. Please I urge you to do yourself a favour and do not buy this product!

Does not work ! Provides no protection from sunburn
Do not buy this product. Recently my daughter and I went to the beach and applied the Cancer Council Ultra Sunscreen 50+ as instructed. To my surprise, we both got badly sunburn and painful at that which is not acceptable. I also suffered from a very swollen ankle due to the sunburn which shouldn't have happened if the product worked as it should have. The product doesn't work at all and does not protect you against sunburn. I have over the years purchased sunscreen from Cancer Council and always been happy with it but not anymore as after this experience I won't be purchasing any further products.

DOES NOT PROTECT
Bought this and applied it liberally on myself and 3 children half hour before swimming and reapplied it 2 hourly as one child is a baby. All of us got sunburnt! Will never use cancer council again! Every single sunscreen purchased from this brand does not protect as stated.

Chemical burn
I wore this sunscreen roll on 50+ to the beach and now five days later I'm still suffering with what feels like a chemical burn on both my lower legs . I can't work and walking around is very painful... The only relief I get is from cold presses and baths.. The treatment ointment I'm using is burn aid... this is a dangerous product and should be recalled immediately

In pain cause of this useless product, NO ONE buy this product, buy something that'll actually work!
Never going to use this product again, its expensive and crap!! I've been left with burnt thighs and back, I can barley move around because this product failed to protect me. I kept applying the sunscreen, yet I still got burnt and its the worse type of sunburn I've had, so thanks for that -_- For now on I'm just going to stick to using products that actually work like Nivea, cause every time I've used a Nivea product I'm always pleased and happy with the results from Nivea, unlike Cancer Council sunscreen that has left me burnt to a crisp!

Sunburnt as hell!
We both applied this product before leaving the house. An hour later we went swimming, we then re applied during our picnic lunch ( in the shade) and had another swim where we were both burnt to a crisp! this is not the first time and we are no longer giving this product the benefit of the doubt! Beware!

not cut out to be
I bought this product for our holiday in Fiji. applys badly and after two days of being in the sun i got a really bad rash as well as my skin inflamed with welts. By the looks of the reviews there must of been a batching problem. Not good at all as its quite expensive.

First degree burns on my 2 year old
Picked my 2 year old up from daycare and was horrified at the burns all over her face and hands (as if she had hit with boiling water) she was covered in the oily sunscreen which I emmediatly rushed home to wash off. Eventually the burns blistered and are now peeling. God knows the dammange done to her skin.

Doesn't work.
For a product that advocates the importance of sun protection I am appalled. This product continually lets me down and I've given it multiple chances to do its job but it fails to do so. It's ironic how this company/foundation implements how dangerous the harmful UV rays of Australia can be yet has crappy products that leave me with severe sunburn. I admit that in the past I have not used sunscreen correctly but now because I burn so easy I follow the requirements and still get burnt. If you ask me it's like a massive slap in the face. False advertising and constant hype of how "good" your sunscreen is has resulted in me having once again another sleepless night and I'm sure it's the same for many other Australians as well.

Dreadful product
I applied cancer council spf50+ before going to the beach and reapplied twice whilst at the beach. I only spent 3.5 hours in direct sunlight and was burnt to a crisp, had to see a nurse to bandage my sunburns because they were horrific.

Using sunscreen created a terrible rash
Went to my dr and he said after looking at my allergic reaction what have you recently changed? Yep, used Cancer Council Ultra 50+. Used this before with no problems. Whatever they have changed in their formula they need to change it back.

Questions & Answers
Meggsasked
I applied Cancer Council 50+ yesterday afternoon and inadvertently rubbed it into my left eye. The stinging was painful and I was unable to open my eye for several hours. I did wash it out with water which helped a little. However this morning my eye is still not right and my vision is blurry. What can I do?

I am using Cancer Council SPF50+, particularly on my arms when I play golf.
This season I have had a sharp reaction: blotchy red marks, skin irritation, itchiness. In previous years I have used a different brand with NO reaction at all.
Is it the Cancer Council sunscreen? I don't know, but can't think of any other possible source. It has been persisting for a month now, and has barely eased after I stopped using the sunscreen and took to wearing long sleeved shirts.
Next stop is to see my doctor.

having purchased Cancer Council 50+ sport sunscreen as the usual brands of Ego and Hamilton that I buy were not available I have been disgusted and appalled. Used it for the first and last time yesterday and got extremely burnt whilst outdoors and not in direct sun for a little over an hour. I have had the skin condition of vitiligo for most of my life, 42 years so the lack of protection was especially damaging. I would like to know why this product is even on the market given your lack of reputable quality testing, or at least clear and explicit warnings at point of sale.
