Underpowered machine`
I bought this machine second-hand from a lady who'd received it as a gift and didn't use it.
I found it was underpowered. When the ice cream started getting thick, the arm would lift up! I had to set something heavy on top of it to keep it down.
In the end when it was done, I got ice cream that wasn't churned enough and thus froze rock-hard so that we couldn't get a spoon into it.
It ended up in the tip.

Motor Arm broke
Seems a similar problem..the PLASTIC cog in my motor arm broke..Part was no where to be found in Australia ..I also was directed to the US and bought a new arm for $70+ and after the 2 month shipping wait..the part that arrived it was slightly different to mine after thoroughly checking it was the right part!! Now in he "too hard" basket...that's nearly $700 with the cost of the machine...Not good enough quality assurance from this company..such a shame but definitely stay away from any product labelled cruisinart!! Feeling very ripped off!!

Same same, I received the same reply as Roady from Cuisinart in US. For another $120 I can have a working machine - original cost $450. That's very expensive ice cream!
great ice cream prior to breaking down but now a worthless machine.
Does anyone have a spare 'arm' for sale? Or would someone like to buy a second hand machine without working cogs in the 'arm'?
Agree, don't buy it
It does make good ice cream but so do many other brands. One small synthetic cog broke a tooth the motor arm. Cuisinart in Australia were very unhelpful directing me to the USA to buy a replacement motor arm which was about $70 with shipping to buy but they said they cannot guarantee the shipping or that they would not be able to supply a track and trace shipping number. Similar to other customers I had not had a huge amount of use from it but it was out of warranty by a few months. It is now 18 months or more since it broke and I am still looking for a replacement in Australia and I am still angry with Cuisinart. I have bought many expensive cooking products since, none of them Cuisinart products.

Rubbish product - DON'T BUY
We've owned this for just on 3 years and the motor arm (which has always been noisy) has blown. During that time I've probably made about 20 batches of ice cream. The ice cream was fantastic, so I agree with other reviews regarding the outcome. Having said that, the ice cream maker was noisy from the first time we used it. The main part of the ice cream maker is heavy and is obviously very solid, but the other parts are flimsy and poorly made. After 3 years (of course just out of warranty), the motor arm has failed. I've contacted Cuisin

Just got it today.
Followed a recipe from book "The Perfect Scoop" for Philadelphia chocolate ice cream.
Ingredients for about 1 litre cost $10. End result?
Best ice cream I have ever had, ever.
Just wow.
The consistency was perfect, there was no need to freeze after woods.
Cant wait to try the next recipe.

Excellent
Having used the machine 3 times in the 2 weeks of getting it, I've been very happy and surprised at how good the ice cream comes out. Never thought it to be so easy also. I went for the compressor model as to save time and also don't have the freezer space to prefreeze the bowl for the other cheaper models. Also think that the 3yr warranty gives me piece of mind that it will last longer. I think it's worth paying a little extra for something that will last longer rather than paying something a little cheaper only to have it breakdown after 1yr

Anyway, it is really up to one's choice, but I'm slowing going through all the gourmet ice cream flavours and am glad to be saving money in the long run for a family who loves eating ice creams. It took me awhile to research and compare ice cream machines before buying. Was looking at the Sunbeam Gelateria (was cheaper) and the Gaggia (twice the price), but was happy to pick the Cuisinart with compressor which sells anywhere between $420 to $550 depending where you shop. I think if you eat lots of ice cream and have the money and bench space, this is a model worth getting. Fast and easy to make ice creams from their own recipe book in 50mins, though there are some recipes that require the custard to chill in the fridge overnight. However you can make the custards up to 3 days in advance. Found the bowl and parts easy to clean as well. No need to prefreeze bowl. Great that it comes with 3yr warranty. It can be noisy to run, but because it makes ice creams relatively fast you won't have to put up with it for too long. The spout for pouring in ingredients is quite small...so can be messy pouring in crushed cookies for my cookies n cream ice cream. Would also liked to have a cover for the opening. Am thinking of storing it in the laundry and running it in there to keep the noise away from the kitchen/family area. Would not like the idea of anything falling into or crawling into it while it's running, but at the moment I just place a piece of plastic wrap over the opening. Machine is also very big so will take a bit of kitchen bench space. Also very very heavy so you'd don't want to be moving it around to often. It does only make about 1.5ltrs of ice cream at a time, so for parties you'll need to prepare a few batches in advance, but I've found it to be sufficient for family of 4 who eats ice cream every few days. At the moment I have 2 flavours in the freezer and as 1 is about to run out I make another batch. They say you can make batch after batch continuously, but I haven't tried to. It is also one of the more costly ice cream makers on the market.Makes fantastic icecream
We bought this machine 2 Christmas' ago as a joint present for each other. We don't really eat a lot of icecream, however when we do would prefer to eat a product that doesn't contain preservatives and artificial products. Although in the higher price range we are happy with this product. It is easy to clean, easy to use and makes fantastic quality icecream. We have made numerous different types from sorbets to gelato. The beauty of this machine is that it has its own compressor so you don't have to mess around putting a large bowl in your

It switches off if the icecream becomes too frozen or when the timer runs out, however it doesn't keep it frozen so you can't set and forget. The down side is that it is a bit noisy but I find if you put it on a tiled floor its is not as noisy as it is on a kitchen bench or wooden surface. The benefit is that you can choose what you want in your icecream, alcohol, low fat, dairy free, fruit sorbet you name it the ingredients are endless. A little bit noisy but worth itThis is a great ice-cream maker!
I love everything about this ice-cream maker. I would have given it 5 stars except my lid broke the very 1st time I used it, I called the company who said they didn't have any in stock but would send one to me as soon as they got a shipment in... that was a year ago and still no lid! I just put a T-Towel over it but it would have been nice to get a replacement lid.
The main thing is though that it makes fantastic ice-cream, effortlessly!
Everything except my broken lid

After a lot of research, I chose to spend a little more money & buy the Cuisinart Ice Cram Maker with compressor. I'm sooo happy I did! This is a fantastic machine! Incredibly easy to use, easy to clean & quite compact. In fact, it is so good it's earned a permanent place on my benchtop as I use it every second day. If making Philadelphia-style ice cream (milk, cream, sugar & flavouring eg vanilla, coffee, etc) you just whisk ingredients, pour into canister & turn on. The resulting ice cream is fabulously dense, thick & creamy. (Commercial ice

Sleek, compact & well-designed. Does exactly what it says it will do. Super-easy to use. A little noisy when operating. My family now won't eat supermarket ice cream.Questions & Answers
I just purchased Cuisinart ICE-50BCA, brand new. It works fine if I ran only a single batch. It will freeze reasonably well, even though it took longer than adverstised, about an hour. I fill only 2/3 of the volume. However, if I ran another batch immediately afterward, it will not freeze! There are some solids, but is still very runny. Does it suppose to behave that way? I have to let it rest for nearly a full day before I can use it again. Or, did I get a faulty unit? Thank you.
I would say you have a faulty unit. Give their customer service number a call and see what they have to say about it's performance... or lack of. You should definitely be able to make batch after batch and have it freeze for you. Mine takes about 40 to 45min to start freezing depending on the ingredients and I always hear the machine start to labor when it reaches that point and I then know it's time take it out and pop it into the freezer.
Let me know how you get on. :)
I agree with Roses66. When our machine was working it actually froze the second batch faster than the first and normally took about 45 minutes. The freezing time will depend partly on how cold your mixture is though. GOOD LUCK!
