Love this product
Have used this on Merbau and Pine posts and I feel like it does what it says. The posts do have a shine to them and whilst mine aren't in direct sunlight all day long, the product holds up well. I think for decking anything you use in sunlight and foot traffic is going to deterioate within 12 months.

Great, but needs lots of coats
I am painting my fence after 4 years. I love the product, “But”. Find that for best results that last a long time, I will coat at least 4 or 5 times 1 after the other, no waiting to dry just keep slapping it on. Start at 1 end and just keep going over it. I have 6 coats on the in the sun fence and 4 coats on the shaded side. I like that there is no sanding just clean and repaint..Easy
Purchased in January 2021 for A$250.00.

Bad endurance
Looks great for a week, then fades at rapid rates, unless in full shade, im going to look for alternative options. Wet look for a week also, unless in shade.
Don't believe what's written on can, and Garth don't bother with your speech.
Purchased in October 2021 for A$210.00.

Not as good as it sounds
We had a brand new spotted gum covered deck east north facing so it does get the sun and some rain. Initially i used Cabots but it did not last so i sanded and used the Wet Look. Very disappointing, it didnt bring out the natural colours of the timber just a tannin type finish albeit a glossy one. I was having to coat every 6 months. Have just sanded again and am now using the Matt finish hopefully with a better result.

Looks great... Initially. Durability is horrible.
If you're looking for a "wet look" on good timber, this does the job at first, but keep in mind that it will be VERY expensive in the long run if you want to maintain it. After only 2 years it hasn't stood up well to foot traffic or weather, and that $200 for a tin starts to look pretty unappealing (let alone the hassle and time of clearing, cleaning, prepping, recoating, etc.) as an annual purchase.
Even just weeks after recoating, it shows clear evidence of poor durability - scratches all over the deck from even soft plastic furniture fee...Read more
t and reacting very badly to pet accidents (initally goes dark, almost black, and dries to reveal bare timber) if you don't manage to rinse them within minutes. And from reading other reviews, it seems it's not even meant to last much more than a year, which is not the "lasting" it's advertised as, and makes the choice between it and a more paint-like stain more difficult.Similar opinion? Looks great with no direct sunlight, not so good with direct sunlight
Not sure whether I've done anything wrong with the application, however with direct sunlight I can see the yellowness of the wet look on top of the boards. Without direct sunlight though (i.e. in the shade, it looks great).
I have a merbau deck that was previously stained with Feast Watson Black Japan.

Fantastic result
This is a great product . The finish was amazing . Have used many different brands with very poor results . It was very easy to apply which was done with a normal paint brush . Gave it 2 coats which was plenty . Then clean up was very easy as well . Highly recommend it .

Love My Deck
Have a 13 year old Merbau Deck that I would take to bed if possible. Deck faces North so subject to sun fatigue albeit half is roof covered.
Up until a year ago, used FW regular Merbau annually (once) following 3 coats in year one = brillant finish.
Rolled the dice & changed to the 'Wet Look' last year to obtain a bit of "sizzle" on an ageing Deck (owner ditto).
Fantastic finish - looks new.

Did 1/3 of the Deck one year - not happy with the finish v's the hand Brush result so reworked same. Difference was immediate. The result would be marginal to some however being a bit of a perfectionist ...it had to be redone. Long Brush could be a good solution for me. Each to their own...bottom line is I am very happy with your product.Garth M.Feast Watson

Not so happy with Feast watson wet look
Upon having a whole new balcony and ramp made to my house, I coated all new timbers before laying both sides with 3 coats of Wet look and then a top coat again once boards were fasten down and decking finished. Its just over 14 months and I have to replace the top coat as its worn to the raw wood again thats exposed to traffic and sun. I am disappointed with this product after reading such good reports about it and the cost. It looked great on application but I am not interested in a coating that cant last a year after spending so much time and effort preparing it. Spotted gum is the timber used.

We recommend annual maintenance inspections for your timber to ensure it's still beading water on the surface. If water is soaking in, i... Read more

F&W WET LOOK: Tallowwood :DOES WHAT IT SAYS ON CAN
After dropping 20K on my new deck, landscaping and yoga pergola set up (getting old, need to stay flexible) I was trawling the net for information on deck oils. Lets say, after reading so many reviews on so many products, there seems to be way to many people who must fail to follow the simple steps and end up with things going wrong. This particular product appealed to me because it is water based and I wanted to let the wood shine, so to speak. This product once applied, ends up being a clear, natural finish - which is what I was after. I toss...Read more
ed up between few products and went with this in the end. Its middle to high range as far as price goes, the 10L tin is great value considering so called top of the line 4L cans are going for $140 ish. I did all the prep, let the decks weather for 6-8 weeks, scrubbed both decks with oxide prep, then pressure sprayed thoroughly so they were stripped back ready to go. Bit concerned when I was stirring the pot as the solution looked thick and solid in colour HOWEVER, once applied it soaks into the wood fantastically well. I have 2 more coats on the exposed deck (it was weather and grey) and 1 more on the covered area (still very much its natural hue. Does what it says on the tin. Get to it.1 comment

Great product, couldn't believe how good the deck now looks
Ive tried a lot of products to try and bring the old deck back to life and had almost given up. When looking at all the products available and the useless advise I was given by Bunnings store staff I chose the wet look, but most importantly I also got Intergrain Reviva timber cleaner ( ive tried Dekswood & Intergrain Power Prep before all which didnt work as well as Reviva). The first step was using a gernie to blast off all that loose stuff, then using the timber cleaner and a hard brush (with a handle) scrub the timer hard and then let it si...Read more

Easy Application and Great Look on new Merbau Deck
I wanted a decking oil with minimum maintenance and fast application in case weather changed during application of initial 2 coats. I had 2 decks (upper & lower) each about 15 square metres and the finish looks great as we wanted to preserve the natural finish as much as possible without a heavy stain. The product looks a slightly cloudy tan colour in the tin but dries to a clear finish highlighting the wood grain on drying and was easy to apply using a woollen mop on a broom handle from Bunnings. I would also recommend the Cabot's Decking Oil ...Read more
Tray which has a plstic step in it to squeeze out excess oil when mopping. I did let the deck weather for 2 months prior to using Cabot's deck cleaner to allow tannins to exude especially noticeable after a few showers. Used deck cleaner Saturday morning then rinsed off and let it dry then did 2 coats of Wet Look deck on Sunday....2nd coat can be applied after 4 hours at 25 deg C...if cooler then wait a bit longer.Similar opinion? We only needed one coat of timber stain decking oil however over night 3 things went wrong.
1. A member of the family accidentally left a shoe print can we just oil over?
2 . Roof leaked with a small dip
3. Slug left silver trail.
Can we use maybe a paintbrush just to lightly go over?
Thanks

Yes..just paint right over the top...no sanding..just paint.. only thing is 1 coat won't last long
