Kathmandu Interloper Rucksack.
My wife and me bought the Interloper 70L + 15L day pack whilst Kathmandu were on sale for AUD $247, and at that price we believe that it was an excellent buy. The harness is excellent and so is the tough and really strong material of the pack itself. Comparing similar priced packs, the Interloper harness and canvas material is of a much more rugged construction.
The interloper does not have small pockets on the waist strap (for the mobile phone and iPod brigade) or have internal straps within the pack compartments. Neither of these things b...Read more
other me in the slightest nor the fact that it doesn't come with a rain cover. In rainy conditions I throw on my poncho and that covers everything. What impresses us the most is the adjustment and comfort of the harness and the rugged no nonsense material of the pack. The Kathmandu staff were great. I have only used it a couple of times but I did give it a good workout. You just know when you have bought a really good bit of kit, and this is pack fits into this category for my wife and me. We do not anticipate any issues, but if we do we will definitely let you all know.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Great all purpose pack - and good for hiking
Hi, I have recently bought the 2013 model of this pack and have so far found it extremely comfortable. I have just used it on a 90km 4 day trek, carrying all my gear and some of my wife's, maybe 23kg fully loaded with 3 days of food and 5l of water. The ability to access the pack from top, bottom and middle are handy and the space is excellent. I agree that some internal straps would be handy but aren't essential if packed correctly and you have the pocket on top for the things you need when you stop on the move. I would have liked a pocket on ...Read more
the hip strap but otherwise pocket space does the job. Weight is not a massive issue for the size of this pack for it's versatility with the additional day bag giving the ability carry lighter gear so it doesn't overbalance at all providing additional space. Overall a great pack the gets the job done.

Heaps better than a roll along bag
Trip to south Africa 3 weeks put everything I need and more seperate backpack is awesome for leavening the big one behind and still have what you need... Also when at the airport everything is on you not seperate when checking in luggage you can just take the small one with you! So yeah my review is all over the place but you get the point lol
Very durable material! Great size light when empty helps with having heaps of gravey luggage!!
Nothing really!

Excellent
Definitely an awesome buy, but if you don't want to pay the retail, wait for Kathmandu sales at 50% off. One of the best Travel packs out there.
Great harness system if you have it fitted properly and buy the right size bag for your build. I bought one in 2005 and it has lasted me right up to now (Oct 2009). I recently bought this updated version for my partner and it's still a brilliant pack. The day pack can be attached to the front or the straps of the pack so you can wear both of them if need be, and both harnesses on both bags tuck away. A...Read more

Early days but very happy so far
I have literally just bought mine and very happy with the Kathmandu sale! (£200 down to £89) for the 70+15litre. I managed to get last years batch which is orange and grey which i love (this years seem to be all black). It's got a great adjusting system and handy features like the clip-on day pack, zip away straps, 'dry bag' top, top load as well as horseshoe side zip and carry handle.
My only concern is that the bag itself is pretty heavy. I wanted something I could trek with and also travel with and this seems to do it all. Fingers crossed the others are right and I love using it too!
Handy hybrid features
A bit on the heavy side when thinking of trekking. Would rather it was 60+25 but otherwise great bag.

OK
Good for traveling to a destination and then stopping to set up camp. But for bush walking, climbing not so good as you have to remove the pack all the time to access what you need. For the price, you get a lot of pack, but not overly versatile. Probably search for a better engineered pack.
Good shoulder and hip strapping system. Internal laundry bag is useful. Hiding panel for the shoulder and waist straps are good for traveling on planes and trains. Fully lockable, all main compartment zips have locking holes.
Deployment of strap cover slow and awkward. Lack of external pockets. Accessing main compartment is slow. Glu on is slow and clumsy to attach/detach

What’s a good pack for multi day hikes
1 answer
Hello Jamie,
I have had my Interloper for a number of years and I am very happy with it.
It is well made, strong and has performed well over the few years since I originally purchased it. I really like the adjustment of the carrying harness arrangement. I have adjusted it to my size, convenience and comfort.
Unfortunately since I purchased the Interloper I have not kept-up with new designs, models and manufacturers. All I can say is that I am very happy with the Interloper.
Best regards,
Steve.
