Good, Basic Heart Rate Monitor Watch for Beginning Runners
When I began running in 2009 I was given this watch as a gift. I used it to monitor my heart rate and keep in "the zone" as I ran. The watch worked well and provided the information. It was relatively simple to use. It will keep stats (time and average heart rate) from the last run. As an aside, it's reasonably accurate as a watch and could be worn and used as one.
However, if once you get more serious about running then the downsides become obvious. First, only one bit of information is displayed. This is either elapsed time, the ac...
Read moretual time, or heart rate. To scroll through them you need to put the watch close to the heart rate monitor (which is better than pressing buttons). A bit of a pain. The next shortcoming is no back light. This means that you have to rely on street lamps, use your running lights (if you have them), or upgrade. I chose to upgrade to the F7 (see other review) last year and will probably upgrade to a Garmin this year. The final short coming is you can't change the battery yourself, you need to send it to Polar (apparently). I did change the battery myself, a simple enough operation with those small screw drivers and a lot of patience. Failing that -- any competent watch repairer would be able to change the battery. The battery has lasted a year so far. Worse, though, is the battery in the monitor must be changed by Polar, unless you upgrade and buy the latest Polar heart rate monitor which you can change yourself (and buy the change kit from Polar for $11).- 3 reviews

OK
Good if you don't mind changing the battery and you want something pretty simple but you void the warranty if you change the battery yourself so a bit of a pain when it's so new.
I'm really happy with the heartrate monitor and it links to the machines at my gym too - but sometimes the watch says one thing and the machines says another. Overall it's pretty comfortable and easy to use.
Battery life - it's supposed to last a couple of years but mine started showing low battery after only 10 months??

How to obtain the manual?
Hi
I've been on holiday for the last fortnight. I believe you can download the manual from the polar website under support.
