No. We are out west with sometimes 35plus temps. No drama with starting.
However weves had the follwing issues;

Brakes not holding on slope and vehicles has moved. Im not sure if he left it in gear. But he definitely does now!

Front bumper plugs not holding. Popped and renault refushed to fix say it was damaged or hit.it was no

Air con and heating issue. Not working

Spare tyre used to replace a puncture. Issue tyres are not a match. Even though its a full size tyre. They are a missmatch do balance us all out

Seat belt doesnt have enogh room. A large man would need an extension belt.

Cup holders hit window and in full sun. Crap position.
Not enough room for mid console to be down with passenger in place.

The windows treated but you cant see out rear internal. Its morroring.

I wouldnt buy another

I would bleed the fuel filter or replace it. The element is available at Autobarn. You may have a little water in it from condensation.

I'm looking to buy a new 2015/2016 X82 LWB Trafic. I've heard of issues with with the MediaNav (if optioned), has anyone had problems? I'd be interested in any other thoughts good or bad and after sales service and costs.

Hi Ben, I bought mine without Satnav. So I dont know about Satnav issues. For Me, I prepare Using Garmin or Tom Tom if you need Navigation system.

Hope this help. :)

Ben, we have the latest traffic, we packaged as a deal, heated seats, cruise control and the sat nav.
We have had no issue with the nav. mind you there is maps and nav separate.

No issues yet.

Ben

Thanks for both of your replies. The MediaNav issues I've heard about are the phone Bluetooth dropping out and a few glitches in setting up the satnav.
I think the new Trafic is one of the better vans for price on the market bar a few issues with the trim on the dash.
I'd also be interested to know what the un-capped servicing costs are at a Renault dealer and if anyone uses a non Renault garage for services.

Hi John - I've been looking for a van for some time now so have studied them inside and out. I think $35500 is a little on the high side considering only last week you could get a 2014 demo model for $32990 (or make them a reasonable offer) at dealerships situated only 5 to 10 minutes from the airport. You need to shop well as dealers will consider reasonable offers as it's end of financial year and the new 2015 model is currently available. Bear in mind the Renault traffic only received a 2 star safety rating from NCAP the European safety test authority.

Thank you and I got it for $34000.
LWB.
I hope I've done right for myself with full 3 years warranty.
Thanks again.

Hi Niftynev,
Firstly to answer your question I do now know what troubles you are having with yours, but being in Australia I started sourcing parts. Firstly I bought a Workshop Manual. It showed that the Renault, Vauxhall & Nissan are the same van and use mostly the same parts. Look at importing small parts from overseas. I saved about $6k on my 2006 6speed man diesel. So I was not too worried when I found that there were a few minor things wrong. A lot of mechanics are not too good with these but Renault owners love them. The fuel send unit is faulty. New one is about A$550. I paid for wheel alignment, new tyres & minor services but my mechanic said its a great buy. Sorry that I'm not able to help you much more mate. Ps if anyone can assist further with the fuel sender unit, please let me know. Hope you find a better answer. Tom

Faulty fuel gauge & stalling at about 4000rpm.
Hi I just bought a used Trafic 6sp TDI. Very happy with its lively performance so far (touch wood and keep hoping lol). Not yet worked out the mileage in litres, One problem is that the fuel gauge does not work. The digital read out on the dash moves up and down and does not give a constant reading, so I do not know how much diesel is in the tank. So to ensure the van does not run out of diesel, I fill it up at about 700km's. I read somewhere about a 'Bad Sending Unit' which I believe is fitted above the fuel tank. Secondly the engine breaks down at about 4000 rpm, in 1st & 2nd gears. The other gears never get up to that rpm so I do not know if this is the problem. I will speak to my mechanic when he returns from holidays. Meanwhile please let me know if anyone has any ideas or suggestions? Also I may need a good diesel mechanic in or near Logan City Brisbane. Thanks Tom

Hello Tom.

With your engine cutting out at 4000 r.p.m. I would look at the following:

Fuel Filter
Air Filter

Maybe the engine is not receiving enough Fuel or Air.

I am not sure about the fuel gauge.
Have you looked at fuses?

Regards,

DutchAussie

Thanks mate. I'll get my mechanic to sus these out when it goes in for service.

Marshall

you will more than likley to find that at 4000 rpm this is the "red Line " for diesel engines ( and a high one at that ) ie the max amount of engine revs you can do and the engine limiter is cutting in I find changing at what is called the tourque /power curve point around 3200 rpm is the best point to change or lower to achieve best milage performance .
the fuel gauge does sound faulty, i had a LPG falcon that did the same thing and even after replaceing the sender unit it played up after a small amount of kms
i get over a 1000 km to a tank on my traffic
hopes this helps regards Marshall

I replaced my rotors and pads at 130,000 k,s 30,000 sounds a bit to soon but depends on who drives it and how they drive it
My brother and I only drive my van maybe my wife occasionally
if its a work van with many different drivers there's your reason from experience most drivers if they don't own it or have to pay for it trash it
That's why I looked for a year for my trafic second hand they get abused
On the other I went with aftermarket rotors and pads total cost was about $500 including fluid change

L Scott P

Mine went at 45K & was told by dealer $2000 to replace all 4 rotors & pads - opted not to replace with same soft European parts and went for local rotors & pads ... get about twice the life from them

Is the Renault trafic as reliable long term as the Toyota hiace?. I am looking at buying either the hiace or the trafic. Thanks

Hi there. I've had my trafic two years now and would highly recommend it to anyone. At the moment it's averaging about 1400km a week half of that fully loaded and it's like the energiser bunny, it just keeps going and going and going. It is (personally speaking) a much better van to drive as it is a fraction wider than the hiace so there's more shoulder room. Being a conventional layout with the engine out in front it is way way easier to get in and out of than the hiace as you don't need to "climb" in on top of the engine. It has more usable space in the back and having barn doors means it's simple to load with a forklift. So all in all I would say it is a way better van than the hiace, also I believe you now get a sliding door on the drivers side as standard. Renault has been building cars as long as Benz has and this van is a credit to them. Better value for money. But that's only my humble opinion after two years and about 120,000 km of very happy vanning.

Thanks Ricky. I Am also going to be a doing a lot of mileage (around 40,000ks) so wanted to make sure
I get something reliable.

How is the after sale care from Renault? And how often are you needing to service yours?

What are your problems as I have recently purchased a 2013 model with the Quickshift box? Iv'e only done 3k since new and so far have had no problems and I have been testing the transmission at times. Don't forget that these transmissions are not your typical automatic boxes but are automated manual boxes and take a bit of getting use to as I have noticed. Now I understand the transmission and the way it works I have no unrealistic expectations from the way it drives and my driving style has a lot to do with how it shifts. Could you please give some feedback on your problems.

Renault of today are different from the Old Renault of yester year. They are closely aligned with Nissan which use their engines across some of their model ranges so parts these days are not so exclusive to Renault. Easily to access parts from overseas on eBay as the renault Trafic has been around for over ten years. The fears of European vehicles will eventually dissolve over time in Australia as we will be importing all of our vehicles soon and most manufacturers component share these days. It's just a matter of doing some simple internet research. It is really the Mercedes and BMW type vehicles which usually cost an arm and a leg with servicing and pats so I believe from my own observations. I wouldn't hesitate in Buying Renault trafic from new as I have recently purchased a new one and I love it.

What are some common problems with the renault trafic?

1 answer
Ricky B
Ricky B

Problems? Well to be honest none! The only issues per se I have had are the fact that the rotors are a bit too soft to machine so needed replacing after 66000 km, bearing in mind that I'm doing in excess of 1000km a week that's probably not bad really. The rear window de mister is an optional extra, there again not a biggy as it rarely gets used. Wide angle lenses on the mirrors are fixed in place at an angle that makes them too low for me personally (6ft tall), umm, only one cigarette lighter/power supply but there is an after market renault two point box you can get complete with wiring and instructions. Other than that there's nothing I can think of and realistically none of them are really "problems". Still getting great mileage. Still a nice comfortable van to drive, not too noisy. Hope this helps

I have a 2008 renault Trafic 127000k tiptronic. Great car but there is a problem when I put it in neutral. It won't register neutral on the screen, but it will be in neutral. A little picture appears of a motor I think, then I can change into any gear without turning the car off then on.
I think it's the neutral sensor, I'm wondering if anyone has had the same problem
