Excellent product. The design is slim, lightweight and functional. I haven't had a single problem with mine. I have the 2TB and it still has so much space on it. It's loaded with movies, tv shows, music and documents. i've had it for over a year now and it works like brand new. Always opens files quickly and exports / imports even faster. Highly recommend this product.

Purchased and used for a year now. So far, with proper care it still functions the same as when I first bought it. It has a really nice sleek design and has proven to be reliable in storing my data. Transfer speeds are average, not too fast but not too slow.

Great product, using it currently as a replacement from my previous Seagate 2TB Expansion Desktop and have had no issues with it thus far. Loving the usb cable and not having to use a power cord as well. Very convenient for my job as well as I can just chuck it in my bag.

Purchased this after my last one died along with my photo albums. The usb recognises quickly and works as it should. I use this to back up work files, watch downloaded movies in my smart tv, and to transfer files onto my computer. Functional and works well to date, I'd buy again.
You can never have enough space to store your important files but for this value priced hard drive you cannot go wrong. Fast USB3 interface, USB powered (no need for a external power adapter), compact and plug 'n' play if you are using a Windows PC (can easily be reformatted for Mac computers)

I purchased all my hard drives over the last 10 years or so. I did have 2 initially, from another manufacturer *the same manufacturer of my media players which I will never purchase again) and they just died right after the warranty expired.
I was initially attracted to Seagate because of the in-factory 3 years warranty. They were recommended to me by the same gentleman that recommended the LG DP-1 media player. They also brought the "new" (at the time) 3.0 technology........
Yes.... they are that old....... AND STILL GOING SUPER WELL!!! ...
Read more I have bought many more over the years and recommended them to everybody that would listen. I will not buy another brand. I haven't got "proof of purchase" as It has been that long and the warranties have expired and there was no need to keep for longer.Related Articles

Compact, portable and compatible with my Apple MacBook Pro. Great addition to store the sound files from recording as it is 2TB but small enough to fit into a carry pocket to keep it safe. Fast and easy to use. I love that I don't need a power source for it and it also comes with a nice warranty.

I've been using the HDD for about 2 months, its really compact and can slip into your pocket. I mainly use it as a backup for my travel photos. The speed is fairly fast. With these portable HDD drives its best to have at least 2 and backup each other.

Bought this almost a year ago now.
It's a great small portable hard drive, its fast and has so much storage for all my files.
Easy to carry around, have bought a case that allows me to carry it around with protection.
Haven't had any issues with mine at all.

I purchased two of these, one to act as my main storage for my Lightroom catalogue, the other as backup.
My main one failed after less than 2 months. It started to transfer data very slowly as I was backing up to the other, then my computer failed to properly recognize it and said there was nothing on it. Everytime I tried to access it my computer froze.
I have had numerous Seagate drives in the past and have found them to last more than 12 months even with lots of travel. This one had only sat on my desk and had an easy life.
No more Seagate for me.
Device has not been moved from its position, 4 weeks after purchase just decided not to work. I bought it to back up my children's photos from my mobile, all those memories, gone forever! Grrr. The message shown when connected to the computer...."There is an error on the parameter"...so sad I am.

In the past I've always bought empty drive enclosures and used old hard drives in them to store my data. Little did I realise how quickly hard drive transfer speeds had moved on from these old drives. This Seagate Expansion HDD was the fastest drive I've ever used. In less than an hour I'd pretty much filled it, something my old drives would have taken many hours to do. The drive being USB 3.0 capable might have had something to do with this. And what is better, it even worked with my DVD player, when some online articles said it wouldn't. In W...
Read moreindows, I just had to change the partition format from GPT (the new technology) to MBR (the old technology) and it worked perfectly. It's about an eighth the size of regular external HDDs and sits inconspicuously next to the TV, and doesn't even need its own power supply since it gets all the power it needs through the USB cable. I will be buying more of these. My hard drive stopped working and recovery is not covered by warranty.
The main purpose of a hard drive is to store data, this one wouldn't retrieve it for me.
Customer support is hard to get a hold of.
When I finally got a hold of a customer support person, he advised me that it doesn't work on a Mac (the instructions show a Mac computer...).
Not recommended at all, don't risk it.

I bought a 2TB Seagate Expansion for a bit over $100 sometime in 2014. It has worked very well ever since, and especially the price was quite low for a 2TB at the time. Seagate Expansions are renowned for just giving you the simple block of storage you need, no extra frills or features, and the SRD00F1 - 2TB model I have has not let me down. I especially wanted something that was larger than 1TB but wouldn't sacrifice on the portability and this was it. It's the same size as the 500GB WD and Toshiba portable hard drives I have.

Hi, I bought an external hard disc 1 month ago and after 2 weeks using it it suddenly stopped working (was not detected... when it was detected files weren't there etc). All this happened without even moving it from my desk, no possible physical damage. I tried to find a way to recover my data and SURPRISE! there is a specific (commercial) software for this.
I would not trust this drives as back-up storage and would consider extra software on top of price for maintenance.

Easy to use, Convenient to carry and has plenty of storage available. Have only had it for one month but could not be happier with it. I have transferred up to half its capacity with very quick transfer of files. I will await the long term results of this device and will report any problems that may eventuate. No problems after 10 months use. Excellent product.

Both Seagate external hard drives I own, a 1 TB Seagate Expansion Portable Drive SRDOOF1 and a 2 TB Seagate Expansion Desktop Drive SRDOOF2 have crashed. Both are full of data which I really wanted to keep including cherished family photos. I am now very wary of all latest Seagate products. Fortunately I have a couple of Toshiba 2 TB external hard drives with some of the data. So far the Toshiba have been reliable. Seagate never again.

I have five Seagate hard drives all of which have failed. Two only lasted a few months. I will only buy Western Digital now. I might try to get a return on all of them (don't like my chances!!) Would never buy another Seagate hard drive again. Always have a backup of everything now.

This is the second Seagate portable HDD i bought. Both died after a few weeks. I lost a lot of valuable data. I wont be buying Seagate again. I used this HDD as backup. I wont be making the same mistake again.
Dont buy Seagate ever. Not worth the hassle

This a revised review, actually I did start experiencing some problems, I bought two of these, one of them started to intermittently detach from the computer, so I opened it up and it is actually a samsung 4TB drive inside, the problem is the USB 3.0 interface to SATA board within the housing, after a few mins, it must get a little hot and starts failing (you might get 5min use before it fails). Then let it cool down for several mins and then you can reattach again for several mins usage.
If you plug the hard drive directly to motherboard sata connections it works fine. So the actual hard drive is fine, but the little USB to Sata inteface is the faulty part of the electronics.
I would wait for the next improved model.

3GB model. It froze and I lost all my data within 2 months of buying it. Seagate do a straight swap under warranty, but like I want the same faulty model. A google search found a report indicating that 40% of sold items failed in 2014. Data recovery looks to cost $220 up to $1300 AUD through seagate and warranty is voided if i take it to anyone else. Way to scam me out of further money for your faulty products Seagate. You should be disgusted with yourselves.
I have two seagate expansion 2tbt portable drives. One works fine, the other one my WDTV media player won't recognise at all. After Harvey Norman made me take it back home after reforrmatting it (did nothing). I took it back with my media player, so they could see my complaint, they kept the drive for a couple of days, rang me to come and pick up a new one because they were at a loss as to why it did not work. Bought the new one home today, FML it is not being recognised either.
I have lost 2TB worth of storage and personal data thanks to the crappy quality of Seagates personal HDD! Definitely don't waste your money! I don't know how they think they can get away with it but it seems that nothing they make is of any quality, my hdd didn't even last 2 months.

I have had this drive for nearly a year so far and have not had any problems at all apart from usb 3.0 not being as fast as it says. 5gps is really a maximum of 100mbs. I use this for backing up my laptop and storing all my photos and music. It's small size lets me take it to school with little room used by the drive. It is easy to access files I need by simply plugging it in and searching. The usb 3.0 quickly copies it to my laptop. Only concern in if it got dropped. That's why I will be buying a Lacie rugged drive. I would recommend this drive who needs to expand the memory on the pc. Don't let the bad reviews of other seagate drives drive you away from buying this drive.
Easy to use and fast
Plastic design could break
Ford need to make a 'Falcon edition' hard drive, it will be world class and the best in the world. Just like the Falcon is today. :)

For an update: I bought a 5TB Expansion Portable in 2022, which is now of the newer model, with the square grid bezels design. No problems at all using it.
