Worst cleaning product

published

I tried this several times on my black caesarstone benchtop and it was terrible. It left streaky marks and took a lot of elbow grease to get it looking clean again. I found the best way to clean my benchtop was methylated spirits diluted with water.

This is the absolute best on the market

Best stone cleaner and polish I have ever used and I have tried some products over the years. My only problem now with Selleys Stone Benchtop Cleaner is where can I buy it? All hardwares and supermarkets seem not to be carrying in in their stock ranges anymore and I am unable to find a stockist. If anyone has any ideas of where I can get it in the Gold Coast area, I would love to know.
easy to apply and get a brilliant shine with very minimal effort
cant find stockists anymore

Same here... used to stocked in Bunnings and Woolies, but no longer. I would love to know where to get it!

My understanding is that if you register your stone product with Caesarstone Australia you receive a free complimentary cleaning kit specifically designed and recommended for the product. Why don't you use that?

Because the kitchen company who installed it didn't tell us

There must be a lot of builders and masons hoarding the Caesarstone cleaning kit then, as you automatically get it when you register your product online through the Caesarstone Warranty Registration on their website.

Hi All,
i am wondering what chemicals are in this product? Or any similar products? I certainly wouldn't use the car wash that dinky5 suggested in the kitchen, though it would be fine for the bathroom counters. I knead dough, and roll marzipan and pastry etc etc on my counters, and need something completely food safe!

We are about to build and are using caesarstone... I've heard the negatives about it, but think that it's mostly people being rough on it, because kids/houseful of peeps/cooking all day everyday and generally hard usage. My kitchen only gets very light use, but when I do use it, I need the countertop to be foodsafe! I was actually tempted to try watered down plain cheap vodka on the samples I have, but would like to hear if this stone cleaner is better/safer. Or perhaps any other suggestions?

I understand Selleys has taken over this product from Hillmark.
There is an MSDS for this products at http://www.hillmark.com.au/Products.aspx
Click on the Stone Clean & Protect image, then you will find an MSDS.
My wife just uses Aldi's window cleaner and our benches come up a treat.
Any residue of chemicals usually evaporates and just to be certain before rolling dough etc, she pours some warm water on the bench and wipes it away.
Cheers

Thanks Bob! But my understanding is that not all these types of chemicals are completely volatile, and neither are the colourants and carriers. I think wiping down before use is good anyway, but was more concerned about the benches absorbing some of these chemicals and then releasing it into an oil carrier, ie. the butter in the dough etc...
The benches aren't 100% impervious, so I was wondering from a chemistry point of view. Thanks for the link to the MSDS :-)

I would not use this product on my bench tops ever again. If you read Glenda's review here above, she is completely correct in what she says.
I cleaned my 6 month old white Silestone benches with the Hillmark Stone Clean and the product left it blotchy, dull and streaky. It sucked into the bench and I am truly hoping that I can restore my surfaces back to how they were and hope to god that this product has not caused any permanent damage to my Silestone surfaces! Not Happy at all!!

I have given up on finding the Selleys Stonebench Clean - however, I have found something I believe is much better - Polyglaze Waterless Car Wash - purchased from Super Cheap !! It is truly amazing and cheaper. My granite bench top has never looked so good. Give it a try and let me know how you find it. Cheers, Denise.
