    Very good little car.

    published

The engine in my car is nothing short of amazing. For example, I had an oil leak and the engine incredibly fixed the issue itself! Wow! Don't get me wrong the overall package isn't great but reliability wise at least on the engine side is a definite 4 out of 5 for me.

    Great little car

Not a real sports car but looks great and is extremely durable. Bought 2nd hand in 2007 and still have to this day... Hasn't missed a beat and I certainly won't be moving it in on any time soon. The best looking Celica model ever made.. Just a shame the convertible version never made it to Australia.

    Best car I've ever had

    published

I bought the last of the round head light model at 3 months old in 1999 and I've yet to part with it! It has everything! Heaps of room, reliability has been phenomenal (even when the battery was dying she went), economy is great and even after all these years I still get compliments on her looks! There is yet anything on the road to move me to sell her!!
due to back folding seats - I can get two bikes in the boot, rear seats are roomy enough, incar storage
Car is a bit low for older people to get in to eg. Grandparents

By far my favourite car over the past decade

    published

I had a Toyota Celica or 8 years. Never had an issue with the car. It was such a sporty car and looked amazing. The key issue was the car was ahead of its time with a fuel efficient sports car been dudded by the population in the early 2000's (when petrol was cheap). Personally I think it needs to make a comeback as it suits today's needs more then ever. If your considering buying one, make sure you get a ZR manual as the extra features are worth it.
    Sporty, Looks Great, Fuel efficient
The power kicks in at 6000rpm which is too late

Highly recommend although no longer available new!! No doubt Toyota will re-release again soon, it has a big following worldwide.

Get a good used one properly checked out by RACV and enjoy !
Have 1 - ZR - since new and its done 210K - its BRILLIANT ! Bombproof and Toyota quality though & through. Great engine/gearbox, very efficient, cheap to service. Lower the car and put bigger wheels on it and it does amazing things around corners too ! Not many cars can keep up with you in any circumstance !
Could do with more torque & 4WD would be nice for the ultimate grip just as the GT4 GroupARallye had.

UPDATE: I sold it days short of 13 years with over 312K to my neighbour - he loves it ! What a machine, extremely reliable IF well looked after & maintained. Will miss it somewhat & I doubt my 86 will go anywhere near that distance without issue.

The celica was introduced in an era where the 2L turbo 4wd (Subaru WRX) really took off. Given that they were both in the same price range, the decision was easy if you wanted good performance. Overall a fairly nicely packaged car, the gearbox could have been improved, which possibly the only problem with the car. 140kw from a 1.8L car is nothing to be sneezed at, if driven properly the only cars that will outrun it is V8's with more then 210kw.
    - Small and nimble- Good fuel economy- Efficient motor- Comfortable- Quite fast given such a small engine
    - Gearbox is notchy- Automatic transmission is a slug, does not utilize the engine very well- Could have uprated the sway bars a bit more- The 'hair dresser' tag

I love this car. It's fantastic for people with a height disadvantage like me. It drives very well. I wouldn't recommend it if you have more than 4 people in your family (because it is a 4 seater).
Sleekness and reliability. Good size boot. Love that the back seats fold down because we get to transport so much stuff.
The seats are very low. My husband has trouble fitting into the seat and car comfortably eventhough he is 6 foot. Plus, it's very cramped once you put a baby seat in the back. No long room for the child or the person in front. Hard to find a baby seat or capsule that fits into the rear bucket seats.

I bought a second hand 94 celica sx through a "reliable" car yard and all was great for 2 days when the engine blew up! While it was on the road it seemed great, but it had a broken cam that emerged after the purchase and we are now looking at a minimum of around $2K to fix it. All the parts are expensive, even a small item like spark plugs will set you back over $100. When going they have plent of grunt, and are very stylish and spporty looking.
    Looks great, very comfy
don't buy one second hand without getting it checked out
